The Best Overlanding Trail in Oklahoma | Return to the K Trail Kiamichi Mountains

- In this video, Isaac and Levi are back on the trail to finally complete the K-trail Oklahoma overlanding route. After three times doing portions of this road, we are back with all the time and vehicle capabilities we need to get it done once and for all. We have done many trips with our 2011 F-150 overlanding rig, and this is one of the most challenging trails we've done!

This time, we are starting from the far south portion of the K-trail and making our way northward to "Three Sticks" where the trail meets the highway. The first half, coming from the south, is the most technical, with washouts and a few rocky climbs. It presents a good challenge for a less experienced driver, or less capable vehicle. Our F-150 on 35's had very little difficulty. Our camp was in the valley after the trail turns around to the west and comes down the switch backs. We highly recommend this trail for anyone with a little off road experience, or even for beginners if you have a fairly capable vehicle.

EXCELLENT video. I totally understand your comment about wanting more technical stuff to work through. We build our rig out to handle crazy stuff, but rarely use it to it's full capacity.
Personally, I'm just glad i can get to beautiful remote spots without running into technical problems that need to be solved. I consider my mods to be insurance. 🤣
Better to have a gas tank skid plate than get my tank dented and need replacing. Have you ever replaced a gas tank. I have replaced a gas tank. *Shudders*

Never replaced a gas tank, nope! I get what you're saying about technical trails; sometimes it's nice to just have a trail that's simple but takes you through some beautiful countryside
We just bought 36 acres outside of Heavener and LOVE it. You're welcome there if you want a place to stay. We live in Allen, TX and haven't been able to go up there since we bought it due to life circumstances. But we can't wait to enjoy it more in the future.
Great video. I live in Northcentral Oklahoma and want to drive the K Trail. I'm getting conflicting info on how long this trail is, and where it begins and ends. I have a Gladiator I do overlanding in, so this will be a simple trail for me.

Awesome! Glad it was helpful. At the last report I heard, the trail begins down on the Broken Bow side where it always did (I think everyone agrees on this side) but some say it ends at the fire tower on the other side, some say it continues on to Clayton I think. My intel was the owners of the property west of the fire tower were no longer okay with people driving through. So we always stop at the fire tower.
Nice video, especially enjoyed the drone work. Thinking about this trail as a shake down for the ozarks. I’ve got a 21 gmc 1500 x31 4” lift with 35” tires. Any thoughts welcome.
Thanks! This was the first off road trip we did where I had the drone. Thoughts about your rig are...sounds like a beast! You should have no problem getting through this trail, although there are a few places where you will want to be careful. Probably no spotting necessary. I'm guessing you have a locker? Yeah, should be a great trail for you, maybe a good one to test out your truck, and possibly your skills, depending how much experience you have. What are you looking at doing in the Ozarks? Sounds intriguing. Here in OK, it's a pretty decent drive to get to any serious trails in the Rockies, so any closer routes you can do are exciting.
Yes on the locker, part of the x31. No real experience, used to do a lot of backpacking and looking for a way to get the wife out with me. So hopefully overlanding. Looking for similar trails in the Ozarks, maybe something that won’t scare my wife.

@@ljjones2464 Wonderful! Yep, this trail and others around the Talihina and Broken Bow area are a good place to start for some off road experience. Your truck shouldn't have any issue on the k trail, but you can decide if you want to jump into it for a first time outing or not. This video shows the most technical sections. One thing to note that Isaac just told me is to be aware of pin striping brush, especially on the "east" section (the first part we did in this video). It's kinda brambly.

Thanks! And thanks for watching! Hope you found it enjoyable and informational. Looks like it would be about 2 1/2 hours or so from Ada to the vicinity of the trail. I typed in "three sticks monument" as a destination in Google maps, because that's the primary trail head. But in this video, we started the trail from the opposite side (nearer Broken Bow), however.

They shut off all the good stuff when this area got too popular. I can assure you there are miles and miles of far more "technical" roads that are closed.

Yep! No problem there I'm pretty sure. We've seen ATV's on the K-trail

Hello, friend! If you look up Three Sticks Monument on Google Maps, you'll find the point where we left the K-trail in this video, where it intersects highway 259. The dirt road that goes east from Three Sticks is the Kiamichi Trail, so finding directions to that point would get you in the right area. Starting from this side would be the opposite direction we went in this video. I don't recall the precise route we took, but I know we started at CJ Corner Store near Octavia, Oklahoma, and headed east from there on Zafra Road. It takes a couple of turns from there before you are on the actual K-trail. I would recommend definitely having a moderately off-road capable vehicle for this trail. It's not too crazy, but you might have to be a little careful in, say, an unmodified 1/2 ton pickup.

K trail ain't really technical... most danger you'll face there is being shot at by the guys that own the land and hate the concept of public use.
Haha, yeah. If you stay east of the fire tower, I think there's less of that sentiment.
I've done Clayton lake to 3 sticks.. out in the middle of that the locals make it known they don't want you there. Sure is gorgeous back in there. (2015 I think)
