High Water Mark Trail - The Movie - Epic Overlanding in the Ozark National Forest
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 лют 2025
- The High Watermark Trail is probably the most famous overlanding route in Arkansas through the Ozark National Forest. The route we took had 44 water crossings and countless mud holes with some fun technical sections along the way. On this trip we had my 2021 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon, a 2018 JLU Rubicon, a 2018 JLU Sahara, and a 2018 Toyota 4Runner TRD Off Road Premium.

kinda tearing up at 19:00+ just know your enjoying the experience. I am disabled sitting in my wheelchair wishing for these moments ....
Oh wow!!! Thank you!!!! He teared up during editing!
I absolutely adore robert’s 4runner.
Those are some serious water crossings! The trail at the end looked fun... I'd like to take the Tundra up it!
Great video. I don't watch a lot of UA-cam videos, but really enjoyed this one.
Thank you!!! Come on down!!
Such a great compliment! Thanks!
Just did this route before Thanksgiving. A few points of advice to anyone heading out on it:
1) This is NOT a beginner trail. You will definitely get scratches on your vehicle from the tight, seldomly-travelled routes.
2) Do NOT attempt this solo. There are countless bog holes and water crossings where a second vehicle will be invaluable if recovery is needed. Recovery gear is REQUIRED!
3) Check EVERY bog hole for water depth and bottom surface quality. There are some bottomless bog holes out there that have been dug out by huge tires.
3.5) Keep recovery gear close at hand. When things go pear-shaped when water is involved, time matters, as seen in the video.
4) There are bypass routes on several of the bog holes. These are almost always torn up WORSE than the main track.
5) At the very start of the trail the road into Woolam Ford has been blocked off. The road to the right of the closure will loop back around to the ford and is open as of 11/2022.
6) Larger vans & sport mobiles will find the self roads to be too narrow. Erosion is continually eating away at these shelves and there have been some very narrow bypasses cut into the woods. I think Land Cruisers or other full-size rigs will have a very hard time in this section. Beware of the undercutting on the trail from erosion.
It's an amazingly diverse route with lots of different types of challenges. Thanks to the author for putting this together!
So glad you had fun on it!!
Y’all think I could run this route on a can am maverick?
@@jacobarnold5885 I'm not super familiar with sxs, but I would be concerned with the first crossing of the Buffalo river near st Joe. It would likely be over the tires most of the year. Wouldn't attempt solo. Need a winch in the group. Check the bog holes for depth.
Can a tundra make it in the ozarks?
@@Rob-jq3zu most trails will be no problem for a tundra. On this route, there are a few tight spots that will be an extra challenge in such a wide/long vehicle. Such as the shelf road by the creek.
That ridge on the Buffalo. God's paint brush. I was born in the heart of TX, raised in the piney woods of East TX but bleed Razorback red. I miss those mountains and hills. What a wonderful part of the world. Thank you for posting this.
at 1:19:07 I got stuck in that middle path this weekend. It swallowed my gladiator whole. The left path you took has also gotten deeper since this video so heads up to anyone who takes this route. Take the right path as it is currently the shallowest just look out for the under-water log at the far end. If you do get stuck in here expect to be covered head-to-toe in mud. My mechanic is going to be a happy camper lol
shoutout to the fellas from central Mississippi. Hope to see you all on the interstate. Definitely have me interested on some trail rides.
Main benefit for my cold air intake is that it opened up a ton of real estate to mount my air compressor. Never regretted it for a moment. I have a 100w flexible solar panel on my roof tent and it helps keep my battryntopped up. I find I need the extra boost in hot weather.
Saw you pass us at the first camp site!
Sorry to have taken the spot y’all wanted but it was super cool to see the crew that made the OOAT possible, on our very first trip to the Ozarks.
Made it through day 3 can’t wait to get back and finish it.
So glad you enjoyed it.
Videos keep getting better. Thanks for the hard work.
Also, thanks for demonstrating the proper way to cross mudholes and streams. Too many think it's an opportunity to make as big a splash as they can, destroying and eventually closing our trails.
Wonderful trail respect 👍👍
Thank you very much!!
Great job from all angles regarding camera work!! The water crossings and wheeling were fun and the camping looked fulfilling.
Thanks for bringing us along.
From North East Georgia.
They are having a blast that look like a lot of fun that water is so beautiful.
Awesome video! Was an awesome video to cast to my TV. Big screen really does those drone shots justice!
It was cool to see my handiwork still there on the chalkboard in the school house
“The Oklahomies”
Really enjoyed the Nars and waterfalls. So many beautiful places in the Ozarks.
Can’t wait to give this trail a shot next time I’m back in town.
Bummer for Robert.....Back in my wheelin' days most trips were great but every once in a while I would have a day that made me wish I had just stayed home.
Yes Brother, another great episode. I envy the places to explore. Greetings.
Great movie! The drone shots along with the powerful music make this truly an epic experience. Your passion for overlanding shows through in this production. Thank you for doing this! 🙏
Glad you enjoyed it!

Great video ! Was born in MO. And sure do miss the real woods and creeks ended up in Central Texas building up our Power Wagon for adventures, retirement in 4 years ! Thanks for your hard work making these videos.
While it was an amazing video, there was a heck of a lot of NOPE in it. Leave out the mud pits and deep water stuff and I’m all for it. Absolutely loved the overhead drone stuff snaking through the woods. Sorry that Robert had the issues he did and hope it all dried out well.
Thanks…mud connections got her running better than ever!
Thank you so much for your videos. I’m a beginner and considered this trail, but after watching and being educated, I realize it is way beyond my confidence level and ability. Without watching, I may have attempted and gotten hemmed up.
Great work on the movie Matt. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Had a smile on my face the whole time.
Great job!!!! Good video!!!!!!
Glad you stopped by the Union Schoolhouse.
Great video, great scenery! Hopefully Robert's Yota was able to get fixed up without too much work.
An excellent video, very beautiful places that we would like to have an experience as beautiful as that. Thanks
Davvero un video ottimo, posti meravigliosi e jeep fantastiche! Sono innamorato del gladiator, e vedendolo allestito così è davvero bellissimo!!
Wow what an amazing adventure! Great job on making it a full length video. I think this is probably the longest one I have watched on You Tube!
Thanks so much!
Great video I love those Ozark’s. I have a 13 Rubicon w/35s. I’m 61 years old and still love off-roading. Would love to do a trip with your group
That was an amazing video. Spent the better part of my childhood at fall Creek Falls. I had no idea they had vehicle trails around there cannot wait!
What a great video. Great job. I can't believe how quickly your channel has been growing.
Thanks!!
Great video footage. It was very cool to see footage of some of the same crossing we did earlier this past summer. Thanks for putting in the work in making this video.
Hello, I am in Oregon State now but I grew up in Missouri, canoeing and camping on rivers and streams all over the Ozarks. I've had all manner of SUV, never a proper overlanding rig. Currently roaming up and down the West coast in circa 2000 Denali XL and loving it. Great content, keep it up!
My family was raised up on and around the banks of Current River and Eleven Point going back a few generations. I would be super interested in any content around or dealing with the Eleven Point. Gravel roads, campgrounds, anything that might be fun or useful on my next trip back. Be good!
Love the video!!! I really like how your videos are long and show a lot of details.
What an AWESOME video!!! I really appreciate all of the time you put into filming and editing the videos. Thanks for taking us along on your journeys!!!
Thanks so much!!
Great video and we're looking forward to exploring some of this beautiful area!
That was awesome. That was the best off road programs I ever saw. The Ozarks are beautiful and that Highwater Trail is extreme! Cheers!
Excellent footage; looks like a lot of fun out there. Pretty rough time for the 4Runner though … 25:25 43:19 & the engine not wanting to start shortly thereafter.
thats what he gets for having those stupid flashing running lights on the whole time lolol
@@jkthomp01 You mean the led refresh intervals that you can’t see with your naked eye?
Great Video! I watched every minute of it. I could tell you put some effort in it. I'm a local from here and its nice to see someone doing these videos of our natural state!!
Crazy to watch this in comparison to when we ran Day 1/2 after heavy rains. Good to see all the hidden obstacles for next time 😂
I just stumbled upon your "adventures" and have been watching them all day. Nice!
Awesome. Thank you!
amazing trip guys, need to put the Ozark National Forest on my list of adventures.
Well put together video and Trail. You guys wheel responsibly. The video does a great job of showing many of the crossings and obstacles, along with some great side adventures. Thank you for sharing.
Absolutely 1 of th best videos out there. Keep on doing what u do sir and give the rest of us something to look forward to!!
Thank you so much!!
Looks like an amazing time!
Love the drone shot at 41:10. Epic.
Well Toyota won't be using this as a commercial anytime soon, lol. Really enjoyed the video, I will be exploring the Ozarks Feb 16/20 hope I miss some of the holes and crossing I don't have a snorkel yet!
😂😂😂
Yeah…my 4Runner did better on the bonfire run…or I should say I’d did better. I made a stupid mistake with the mud hole…any vehicle…including a Jeep would not run well with water in the gas tank.
An amazing video.Such beautiful scenery! Thank you for sharing this with the youtube community.
Hey Matt, this is by far my favorite video. I have really enjoyed all of your videos. I'm new to your channel, and I can honestly say Ozark Overland Adventures is fast becoming my favorite! Thank you for your hard work and dedication to your channel. Great job! Watching from Texas.
Awesome, thank you!
Awesome! I want to go on the next run!!

big fan of your channel, so far this is the best video i've seen of water crossings, greetings from Baja California, Mexico.
Thank you very much!
That was AWESOME! Thanks!
That was an amazing video.
Thank you!
I’m new to the channel and enjoying all of the content. Very professionally done. It is really great seeing all of this local scenery, I am in Springfield. Stay safe!
Another great video Matt. Jamie and I watched it last night. Good stuff. Keep up the great work and we will see you at MOORE. Be safe out there.
Awesome! Thank you!
Love the water crossings and beautiful trails! I'm trying to plan a trip here April 1st if my locker comes in.
Your videos are amazing! Thank you so much!
Wow, excellent production. Well done. I really enjoyed watching this movie.
Best video I’ve seen in a while! Such awesome trailer and just wow to the water crossings. We don’t have anything like that in my area of Middle TN. Keep up the great content and have fun!
First went to the Buffalo River back in the 70s with the Boy Scouts to canoe it. Later on discovered Horseshoe Canyon Ranch near Jasper for rock climbing. Love that whole Buffalo River area.
Awesome video I have been all over the trails in the video never knew it was called the high water mark trail.
Great video content -great photography! Felt like I was there with you guys.
Thanks for sharing your video with us.
Looking forward to the next one ☝️
Awesome! Thank you!
Nice job filming and editing. I know how time consuming it can be getting all those extra angles.
so nice to watch this full video. well done guys. nice trip and views.
Thanks so much!
Always before doing water crossing like that ..
TIP:
SPRAY ALL DOOR SEAL WITH WD40 it will help keep water out . If your seals are in good shape 😉 Good video 👍
Never had an issue with water coming in the doors on my Gladiator.
Really enjoyed this. I can tell you must have put in a lot of time on this and it was great. Those water crossings were wild!
Thanks a ton!
Great content this is the best video a seen in months
Wow, so awesome, love your work, wish I was wheelin with you guys!
Thanks!!
Absolutely amazing thank you very much for all your effort making a video I know it takes a lot of time..it was worth it!!!
Thank you very much!
Another excellent video Matt. I think the way you guide us through all the proper ways to the trails is awesome
Fantastic video! Well put together. A lot of work went into it and it shows! Cheers.
Wow I really enjoyed this! I don’t even own a Jeep!😂 I ride adventure bikes but I love your channel! Keep up the great work!🤘
Holy moly, good job!
Very nice. That looks like a ton-o-fun. I hope Robert's 4Runner did not turn out too bad.
Amazing off road.
Great video! Love this area so much, its definitely a different experience if its dry or wet.
awesome ride
Awesome Movie….Definitely enjoyed watching the adventure. I’m from Southern California and would love to someday take our overland tundra out that way to do some of these amazing water crossings I’ve seen in your channel. Thank you for sharing but these are definitely goals for me and also soon to get my wife a jeep she’s been wanting for a good while.
Love your style of videography! That was an epic adventure. I’m definitely going to Arkansas for some off the grid Jeep camping this summer.
Nice trail ride
New to your channel and love every minute of it!! This is making me want to buy a trailer and travel this summer!. I'll certainly keep watching!!
Thanks so much!!!
I love it. nice place nice truck
The drone shots are phenomenal 🤘🏻💯 great job on editing this video respect 🫡
Thank you!!
Your drone shots are pretty spectacular!!!
Thanks a ton!
Great video, I'm up at the northern end of Missouri, the land of corn and beans. Lol. A jeep has always been on my want list but currently my two sons and I overland on dual sports. Love to try this trail but we'd have to catch it with water levels a bit lower. Thanks for the vids and just subscribed.
All I can say is WOW!!!!!
Great video!
Awesome video as always! Looked like a great trip.
very cute and beautiful video
That looks fun. I hope someday I can go overlanding. But my two wheel drive truck with low ground clearance wouldn’t work for that. Long ago I had a 1987 Chevy S10 Blazer 4x4 . It was a blast until it broke down and I couldn’t afford to fix it. It had a 4.3 v6 with plenty of power. I entered to win a beautiful tricked out Jeep Gladiator online, I’m sure it’s 1 in million chance to win but I entered anyway, I can dream anyway.
although arid, but the scenery is very beautiful, as well as the water is very clear. greetings from Indonesia, Pasuruan, Rembang. 👍🙏
Thank you very much!
New subscriber! I just recently bought and wrangler and just getting started. I'm also from Missouri
Welcome aboard!
Water splashes out at 1:04:45 👌it's factory mint
Wow Matt, that movie ranks right up there with Tombstone, Twister, and Smoky and the Bandit! Great production.
Smoky and the Bandit? That's a huge compliment!! LOL Thanks!!
Yes, love them all. Keep doing what y’all do.
That was a bad ass trail video great video
Love it! Great job!! Will have to watch again without family interruptions 😄
And I'm gonna say it.
Robert needs a Wrangler 🤣
Thanks for the entertainment!!!!
Funny you should say that
New to your channel. I like your videos and adventures. Very well done with all the footage.
Awesome, thank you!
Im building an 18 F150 supercab to be able to keep up with this stuff. Really inspiring seeing the IFS 4Runner keep up. That one water crossing was sketchy as hell though!
damn i commented before the 4runner died lmaooo
@@CosmosExplorer42 it wasn't the 4runners fault..lol...No worries she lives again and is doing well!
@@robertwicker196 That is great news Robert! Can't wait to see her on the trails again, cheers!
Save your money on the ford and buy a real machine for the job
@@ljbrizo I get that a lot.. but hear me out.. the only next step is a F350 with the solid front axle because i need the payload and range that my v8 f150 gives me. I also don't trust Jeep reliability in the remote places i like to explore.
when these truck prices come back to reality, ill have a gasser F350 supercab as my rock crawler. In the meantime though, im building this 18 F150 to be the most capable trail runner and overlander I can. You should see the trails ive taken it down in the Ozarks- I honestly thought I wouldn't make it out in some places lol
Living the dream!
Fantastic video!!!
Thanks friend!!!!
