  • Here's how to change the front brake pads on a Fiat 500. It's an easy job to do this one. This is not my best video as it was getting dark toward the end and I had to use a plug in light but hopefully it will help guide someone! It needed doing urgently as the brake pads on this car were particularly bad! One side had worn down to the metal and on the other side part of the braking material had snapped away!
The car is a 2014 Fiat 500 Colour Therapy 1.2 petrol but this procedure is the same for all Fiat 500's from 2008 to 2016 - For models after 2016 a slightly different braking system was used but essentially the process is identical.
The tools I've used and where you can buy them are listed below:
Trolley Jack - if you do any work on cars you really should have one, here is the link to buy the updated version of the one used in the video:

Wheel breaker bar with 17mm socket - you can use the standard wheel brace that comes with the car but these longer bars often make the job easier:

Brake Pads - These are the brake pads I have used for this car, there are different sizes and versions of brakes on the Fiat 500 so do make sure to check these are the correct ones for you before ordering:

Copper grease - This is something of a taboo with modern brakes with some people insisting on using it and other keeping well away! You don't need to use it at all for this job but I've always used it on brakes and you only need to use the SMALLEST amount on the contact areas if you are going to use it. As long as you make sure not to get any on the disc or brake pad material then it helps prevent seizing and corrosion:

Wire Brush - Affordable and great to clean corrosion!

If you are a DIY mechanic then you will no doubt already have all the tools you need.
If this video helps you or you found something good in it then I'd be really grateful if you could take a moment to click the thumbs up and subscribe to the channel for more videos fixing broken things!
This is how I did the job, I am a just a car enthusiast and have basic tools. The video is meant as a guide for entertainment purposes only. If it helps someone that's fantastic but if in any doubt then always consult a professional mechanic before undertaking a project yourself.
