this is easily the best rear brake servicing video .. i am 78 yrs and have recently serviced a 2021 Fiat Panda Hybrid .. I love mechanicing on vehicles ..the rear wheels were not spinning freely at only 25,000 km from new . one hub was dragging and the other drum was catching slightly .ECONOMY?. with the shoes and hub removed I washed the backplate using brake cleaner .. Brushed a liberal coating of 3M cavity wax rust preventer all over ., Greased all of the brake shoe contact points and reassembled. taking care to copper grease everything which slid or moved . spraying some chain lube into the springs coils and the pivot on the handbrake shoe . The slightly rusty edge on the brake drum was removed using a pad made out of 150 grit emery paper .
Fantastic…wife’s 500 rear brakes failed as the wheel cylinder sprung a leak and I was looking for the procedure to go about replacing it all ( including drums that are 13 years old)…found your vids and they are superb! Thanks so much for posting as it saves rummaging through 5 or 6 pages of a Haynes manual and invariably cocking it up. Top job buddy
Cheers for the help. Actually doing work on mk2 Ka as same as the 500 and easier to find 500 videos. Sister's car failed mot as the hsndbrake was barely working on 1 side. My and my mate took it apart to have a look to see what was wrong and the shoe fell apart. The pivot point was stuck but needed new shoes. Got 1 done tonight. Will replace the other tomorrow
Thank you for some very informative how to videos for all 3 on the fiat 500 braking system. And links to parts etc... spot on Very clear and easy to follow.
Excellent 3 vids on the brakes.. very similar system to many cars but nice added tips and tricks you have noted .. demistifies the voyage of discovery when working on different cars.. thanks and best wishes.

hi, love the video.nearly the same as the Panda 2016 i think, i use a dab of white paint to mark where the springs go,. that car was in bad condition.i check my brakes every 2 years
Useful video!! Thanks! I have replaced rear brake shoes and drums and hand brake adjustement, but handbrake does noy brake very well. It brakes but nor 'braking bite' on a steep slope... Any idea??
@@aaanton11 ok. I am to drive some miles more and let see...i understand that fiat 500 rear brakes (drums, no discs) have to be able to slam handbrake??
Great info , ive opened up a KA 09 adjust the hand brake but found the adjuster is broken , the little clip that id click it on is detached and spinning , i see i can buy them separate does that mean i can do them without changing the whole back brake system ? Thanks
Great vid , hopefully help me replace rear brakes on my 500 . Any advice , if I may ask ? Can’t get rear drum off one side . If I slacken handbrake cable off inside the vehicle , will this aid in removing the drum ? Thanks in advance for any advice. Happy new year.
@@aaanton11 thanks once again. Followed you’re advice and Yes the bolt holes worked a treat . Drum removed and shoes ordered. I’ve obviously subscribed to your channel. Keep up the great content. 👍

Hi there my name is Deno I am from South Africa and I drive a fiat Fiorino panel van, I am struggling to replace my handbrake cable that fits into the one part of the brake shoe, can you please help me
I hate drum brakes. Horrible nasty things. Disc brakes all day long. Far easier to maintain and service. Far better in braking performance than drum brakes.
