    I've been using an Oase Biomaster Thermo 350 for a year now this is the model with built in heater. It's so easy to clean the pre filter weekly and I only do the main cannister about every 4 months or so. Can't see any bad points with it, have had no problems with it . Love the fact that I don't have to hide a heater in the tank as well.

    I've owned all three canister filters.
    Eheim classic is the quitest but a pain to clean and prime.
    Fluval was a good canister but I had impeller problems with it
    I currently own the oase biomaster 600 and after doing a few modifications on it can say its brilliant. Takes 10 mins to clean the pre filter and I clean the media trays every 6 months!! Water is always perfect 😁

    • @kyesniper

      My only issue in fluval vs eheim is media capacity. I have three eheim pro 5e 700s (returning today, they're garbage) as well as an FX4 and fluval 406. The one eheim holds more media than the FX4 and 406 combined, it's insane. If only they would just stay running instead of randomly shutting off.

    Nice review. I own the classic eheim 2217, the 106 and 206 from fluval and an aquael ultramax 2000 and by far the ultramax is the best. Probably the best underrated filter out there. Similar to oase, way, way cheaper, with pre-filter (you dont even need to open the filter itself, almost silent, excellent auto-primer). if you need to buy a new one, definitely check them out. Great review by the way.

    never used the eheim but have used the Oase biomaster 650 and Fluval 407. My favourite is the oase. The Fluval is well made and cheaper with ease of use but the Oase simply has more space for biomedia compared to the 07 range making this the better choice for me.

    • @TankTastic
      @TankTastic  2 роки тому +1

      Agreed, but the 07 still a good choice for those that are budget sensitive

  • @viper8177

    This was a very useful review of the three different canister brands. Thank you!
    I am planning on getting a new aquarium of around 177-222 Litres (39-48 Imp Gallons / 47-58 US) and for which I will probably go with the Oase Biomaster 250. Your review has sold me on Oase.
    In one year's time, I am planning on a much bigger aquarium of around 620 Litres (137 Imp Gallons / 164 US) for which I will probably go with the Fluval FX4.
    I am currently running an Eheim canister on my 110 Litre (24 Imp Gallon / 29 US) tank which is one of the very first Professional series from almost 20 years ago and it is still going strong. I have only needed to replace the rubber seals on the baskets and change out the filter media once.
    For smaller aquariums, the Eheim Ecco Pro canisters seem to get very good reviews and might be designed better than the Classic versions. They are also extremely cheap here in the UK.

    • @TankTastic
      @TankTastic  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you! Glad it helped. I’m usually in the standard aquarium sizes just so I don’t have to worry about filters. Lazy me I guess? Oh, did you know Oase has a Biomaster 850? Might be big enough to handle the job of your future tank. But at that size you probably need a ton of flow, so I kind of agree with the FX route.

    • @kyesniper
      @kyesniper 3 роки тому

      I wouldn't recommend the fx 4 for that size, I have a 150 gallon and have an FX4 and 406 and you'd need a lot of media.

    I have owned all the Eheim Canister Filter , sold all the Pro2 and Pro 3 , lend out all the Pro 4 but still kept all the Classic series , multiple of each model .
    How I use the classics is to use them in pairs connected in series , 1 will only have sponge and filter wool while the 2nd will only have the medias .
    The 1st will act as a pre-filter and will be cleaned every 2 months or so depending on the tank bioload while the 2nd is undisturbed for months to years .
    Classics is still the best , low wattage , long lasting and changeable flowrate by swapping the impeller from different model of the same series .
    Even 2nd hand ones are highly desirable for me as it is cheaper and it still is a work horse , filtering 24/7 , 7 days a week .

    Hello, thanks for the video. Can I made you a question, what filter is more quiet, low noise? Fluvial 307, eheim pro or oase? All features like pre filter are important, but for me the noise is one of the most annoying thing. I have one eheim pro 4 600. Is more or less quiet, but I"m to buy another filter. Please give me you opinion about noise. Thanks

    If money isn't a cost which one would you pick between fluval and oase. also eheim came out with their 5e series. any thoughts on those? I need to replace my 2217 and was debating on which one to go outta the eheim pro series (most likely 4+ or 5e that just came out), oase biomaster 350, fluval or maybe UNS delta 120.

    • @TankTastic

      omgshad0w see that’s a tough one. If money is no object, I would actually look into this filter: Aquael Filtro Exterior Ultramax. Someone mentioned this to me, I think it’s someone in these comments. I’ve been obsessing over this filter and will pull the trigger on my next tank. Outside of that, from the four I mentioned in the video, Oase hands down (if money is no object).

    Greatly overlooking JBL Crystal profi series. If you check energy consumption, actual filter volume, REAL flow rates (with filter media) and compare with OASE or EHEIM , you can see JBL destroys these brands. Its somewhat equivalent with FLUVAL. Eventually OASE has great user friendly design benefits which I cannot argue against, but I beliebe JBL should have been in this comparison...

    I have an eheim classic 250 and yes there is not a primer but u sertinly don't hay to sick on a dirty hose all u do is if the filters empty u close all the taps n then open the two intake taps n as soon as u open the two output taps you'll hear it filling n it'll push all the air out the classics are old n very simple but that's what makes them good there's no primer they break n can leak over time as for no media baskets u get a basket for it or dividers and once uv to clean it it's simply all u do is pull the media out but make sure it's n a media bag IV ran mine well over 4 years never had an issue we it it's silent and once after I cleaned it I forgot to lock down the motor head I turned it on and it ran there was no water coming out at all the classic is a great filter n IV heard of them running 20/40years non stop the o rings never go bad and you'll only have to replace the propeller or the propeller shaft each 6/8years fan ever they wear out I own the other up to date canisters to n I can tell u now they only last 5years n get noisy n leak the classic is probely the best you'll get n IV had fx4s 206s 207s eheim pro 3 n jbls n as good as they are the classic will outlast them so many times longer

    So much misinformation about the Eheim classic.
    1. Once the filter is primed and running, and double taps are in place, no need ever EVER to suck on the hoses to fill it. Thats the WHOLE point for the double taps.
    2. You can use a $1 media bag to hold your bio media, this way you can have a 1 second method to pull out the bio media to clean. You can even keep the media in the bag as you rinse and clean.
    3. Its "OLD" which means its proven. My Eheim classic 2217 (classic 600) got handed to my friend after 14 years of running and he's still using it, that was 3 years ago. My Eheim classic 2260 is 20 years old and running. So OLD basically a guarantee that it was rock solid, so no need to change.
    4. Turnover is the least of your worries in your planted tank. The Bio media capacity is far more important. Also most filters rate their flow without media. Eheim rates with media

    • @TankTastic
      @TankTastic  3 роки тому +2

      Here’s the rebuttal, and I do think Eheims a good filter, just not a Oase.
      1. I assume you do not use clear hosing or clean your hose or the in/output? After you clean your hose, you never need to prime?
      2. Using an additional bag would be considered modifying it, I’m talking about how it works right out the box. It’s nice to have baskets. Worth the extra money
      3. I agree the classic Eheims last forever. But once you go Fluval or Oase, you can’t go back, it’s 2020, we all deserve some upgrades.
      4. I agree eheim loads with media than tests vs the other companies. I disagree turnover rate does not matter, when you have a heavily densely planted tank with high demanding species and pumping co2 like I do, you need some flow.
      Eheim knows where they need to improve. That is why the new “classics” includes one basket. The old 22- series had nothing. Slowly but surely.
      Open for discussion

    • @svtcontour
      @svtcontour 3 роки тому +1

      @@TankTastic 1. I dont clean the hoses/outlets and cant think of any reason to do so to be honest. Now mind you mine are not clear. They are the green hoses so the taps are always shut off, filter cleaned and then connected and opened which avoid the whole need to re-prime.
      2. I guess it could be considered modifying it but I know not a single person who's taken a filter and not swapped out media brands..etc so basically we're technically all modifying our filters so a $1 bag does make it easier :)
      3. For me reliability and longevity are far more important factors than a basket to be honest. If it takes me 5 min longer to clean a filter, but its bulletproof, its the way to go. No brainer.
      4. What I meant about the flow rate not mattering is that Eheim tests with their filter loaded and others without so actual loaded flow rate for many other brands may be 25% or more lower than claimed. More important would be to have good capacity :)
      Anyway good discussion but not a chance in hell any Eheim user (especially classic) will switch. Again my 2217 is probably about 17 years in the running (now at my friends place) and my 2260 is 20 years old. There are users with Eheim classics exceeding 30 years with no issues :) That is an absolute winner in my books.
      Ok well speaking of which, time to feed the fish. Have a great day my friend.

    • @TankTastic
      @TankTastic  3 роки тому +1

      @@svtcontour I totally get it man. Not sure if you seen my other videos, I usually run those glass pipes with clear hosing so basically I clean that every two weeks (which is annoying). The green ones I use to clean like once a month because of the gunk. I agree a media bag makes it easier, but compared to something that’s already a basket, I personally vote for basket. The flow rate thing, again you are right about the actual flow rate but for me when I use lets say the 2217 the flow seemed low. Yes they do test with media, but lets say you swap out that carbon pad they used in the test and stuff it with more media. The Eheim reading will go down too. I do wish everyone has a standard way of testing gph (I added a disclaimer about the eheim, which should of been mentioned). Also I am curious, of what the actual rate is for all of my canisters (maybe I’ll do a test or something). Lastly, agreed on the longevity. I passed on my over a decade old 2217 and the new owner said it’s working like a charm. Tbh, I get lazy and the new bells and whistles floats my boat. Lol
      Good talk though, I always enjoy open conversations about things like this. Also, I’m not going to be right or provide all of the info in my videos all the time. So when someone points something out, I respect it and would like others to learn/add to the exchange.

      @@TankTastic Thanks my friend. Ya so I had just come across this video and watched but I'll be checking out the others now that I know that you're running the clear pipes so I guess ya the cleaning definitely has to be done on something like that :)
      I've been thinking of measuring the output of my filter by diverting its outlet into a 5 gallon bucket and seeing how quickly it fills that and then work it as a GPH fully loaded and say run for 1 month. I think thats a real world test. That way it has to flow through media and a bit of gunk ;)
      BTW I run a 308 gallon plywood aquarium that was a DIY with a 2260 and a 2262 at the moment. I'm really happy with it but I'm planning on building a larger one next year sometime. Something in the 550-700 range. Thats as big a I can possibly go in my current house.

      Yea the real world test is def a month long test and seeing how the gph slowly decreases over time. Yea, I saw some of your tanks, they are very cool man. My tanks is from nano to my largest which is a 48 gallons rn. I usually like high-tech tanks, high light, co2 and all that stuff. Of course I’m also interested in low tech but I need to learn more on that as I go. Slowly but surely.
