It sounds like cavitation, this is caused by a number situations in the world of hydraulics. 1) low pressure on the suction side. 2) Possible sharp 90 degree bends 3) Something simple like a dirty pre filter restricting flow on suction side. 4) A basic imbalance of water in and water out, can cause cavitation. My thoughts, clean the pre filter and KEEP IT!! Next, experiment with a "sweep" or gentle bend on your suction intake and see if this takes care of your "cavitation" issue. Try a more coarse pre filter. Yes, it is possible to have a slight suction side leak (air sucking in) and do not use Vaseline, I prefer "Lube Tube" small tube 1oz. Please use very small amount of lubricant on o-rings and gaskets. I hope this helps. Also, thank you for taking the time to make these videos, as you have helped me many times!! :-)
Oase did a facelift on biomaster. The prefilter pipe wasn’t drilled enough. The new pipe is drilled on every side and the holes are bigger. For them, it’s a way to reduce the noise. However some people still have the issue apparently. Might be better to have the lowest ppi foam?
Yes I can confirm that by drilling the prefilter with double the amount of holes of the same diameter as original holes has silenced my filter. I done this to both of my biomaster thermals and total peace restored 🙂
I had two 850 thermals on my tank. Both had the same issue. I also had a couple of other issues with them so I sold them and I now have two Fluval 407s. Much less hassle and really happy so far with the Fluvals and no issues.
Bought two fluvals. Both of them leaked all over my floors. Check the headgasket as the newer plastic that Fluval uses can develop hairline cracks and leak all over
Someone alreary mentioned Pondguru and how he optimized this filter by drilling more holes to the prefilter pipe (he actually replaced the original pipe with a new one, maybe you want to do the same so you don't lose the guarantee). Liquid Nature have also made a video about drilling more holes to the prefilter pipe ("Oase BioMaster Vorfilter Tuning"). I don't know if you can speak German, but there were many comments saying that they had done this also, and it should really help with the flowrate. Hopefully that will in turn also help with the noise problem/air bubbles.
Is that a good idea in terms of energy consumption and pressure/functionality? Not condemning the idea, but I probably wanna sit down and do the math before doing that
@@itsokay7989 I am no expert either, but I would think that IF the air bubble problem is caused by some kind of pressure/underpressure issue, then this method is only going to help. Many people have done this modification and I haven't seen anyone saying that it would have caused problems (well one person said that he had priming problems after it, but was it because of this modification, because no one else had similar issues). But this is why it is best to not drill the original pipe, but use a new pipe (like Pondguru did), so if there would be any problems/side effects you can always go back to using the original pipe.
I would recommend you to use silicone for the gaskets, because vaseline (petroleum) destroys the gaskets with time (at the beginning it seems better but after one year it may break and leak).
Thank for sharing your Problem! I had the same problem with my Oase 850, couldn’t solve the problem and send it back to Oase, I received an new one, but also this new 850 had the same noisy bubble effect. My Scape is now running with Eheim without any problems.
You mentioned in your previous review video that the Pre-filter was the strongest advantage to the Oase Biomaster filter, so you have now lost this. I think if you changed your pre-filter sponges to coarse & drilled additional holes in the down pipe of the Pre-filter, things would improve for you. I run x2 Oase Bimaster Thermo 850s on my 400 litre Discus tank with minimal noise. Worth a try?
I was having similar problem and then watched the video from pondguru and if you make larger holes on that pre filter pipe you will increase the flow and fix the problem. It worked for me.....
If you want to use the predictors again try this. Once your done cleaning the pre filter sponges and putting them back on (put the back on wet) or once they are back on dip into a bucket with tank water and squeeze them till they have most of the air gone. This should help
I have the 350, its very quiet and only have the air purge issue for a little while after cleaning. Love this filter, I bought it for the pre-filter and built in heater.
I never had issues with my 350. Still havent in 3 years or so. But my 600 and 850 purged a lot of air all the time and than they where noisy. I had contact with Oase and they replaced the pumpheads of my filters. This helped with my 600. But i still had issues with the 850. Than i added clamps on all the tube connections and replaced the oase pipe set with Stainless steel ones without a skimmer. And than it was fixed. No air purging. So my guess is they suck air through the connections somewhere. Not sure where cause i did all of it at the same time. Cause of the Pond Guru video i allready made lots of extra holes in the tube of the pre-filter. No problems now.
Fantastic video, A UA-camr who tells the truth, I purchased the same filter in January for my birthday, and had the exact same problems videoed it and spoke to their customer services they sent me a new connection for the hoses, but it did nothing I took the sponges out of the pre-filter still the same, ,taking sponges out of the pre-filter I can’t see why you’d have to modify the tube like Pond Guru did to sort this problem out ,I think Richard was addressing the problem with the flow, not the noise and the continuous microbubbles ,loved the idea with the heater and all the Trays but I had to send it back
Today I purchased a new filter Oase BioMaster 850 for 120*45*45 tank. Also i am using Shiruba XB-312, which is an excellent filter, I have been using it for 5 years. Till now there are no issues and sound is completely silent. After unboxing the new Oase BioMaster 850 filter, i saw the main problem, that there is no lubricant applied for seals, which is the main cause for sound and bubble issue. In shiruba all seals were lubricated but in this it's dry, which can cause further leaking, sound and short life of seals. So I applied vaseline for rubber sealings. Now it's working great with low noise.
You should seriously consider using a bypass for the CO2 reactor. The manufacturerers of (large) CO2 reactors often recommend a maximum flow of 200-300 l/h going through the reactor to eliminate noise and maximize CO2 dissolution. But you will need a bypass to achieve this flow rate. The bypass will also increase the filter's output due to the reduction of pressure. Note: I have a BioMaster 600 (rated 1250 l/h), with additional holes on the pre-filter pipe, connected to a CO2 reactor and UVC using a bypass and I manage ~800 l/h of output without noise. So, if you are only getting 600 l/h with the larger BioMaster 850 you do have flow constrains in your system.
Another solution is to keep the sponges, but drill more holes in the pre-filter tube. You can drill them in a straight line so that they cross each other. So You will have better flow even with sponges. I have Oase too, I raise my bubbles, at the end of the day, I stopped getting attention, but I saw this idea in one of the UA-cam stores and it wasn't long to do.
When I found my new Biomaster 250 Thermo was quite noisy I tried to remedy it by lubricating the impeller spindle with some silicon grease. This only made it much worse, also it was reluctant to start up after being plugged back in. So I removed the impeller again cleaned off all the grease using contact cleaner, put a small amount of silicone oil on the spindle and the top and bottom O rings and I now have a much quieter filter.
I found making the holes in the prefilter pipe larger helped a lot with the air. Now I only get it when the prefilter are dirty or getting to time to replace them. I’m even using the 60 ppi prefilter.
My biomaster 350 got silent once I isolated the outlet pipe. There was a vibration due to filter's pump that arrived to outlet pipe. I removed suckers, and outlet pipe lies in a foam that is used to isolate motor cars. Now the filter is absolutely silent. It seems you have another kind of problem. Try making bigger holes to the inlet pipe in the prefilter. Regards
Hello there, just sharing my experience with biomaster 600 in 200L aquarium, without any co2-ing, 4yrs running, greasing all gaskets/moving parts 2x per year, no problem. I drilled holes into prefilter tube and sponges are that blue dense 45 ppi. It start to suck air and burbs only if prefilter is totally clogged - it happening once per month so it is signal to clean prefilter, cheers
Hey Man, I had the same issue with mine, i even sent it back for testing, turns out it doesnt like having too much droop in the hoses. I discovered this after setting it back up with a new(taller) stand. It now has a more vertical route to the inlet and outlet. I get absolutley zero noise now and this was coming from a filter I was ready to discard because it was so annoying.
Have a look to the Filter Tutorial from the guys from Liquid Nature. They are drilling extra holes into the pipe of the pre-filter to increase the flow. No idea whether this solves also the noise problem...
So, by this video you explained what i suspected with my own filters. Not Oase, other brand. I noticed that when the intake is clogged, the pump would create negative pressure inside the canister. Since it couldn't draw more water (restricted flow), it would suck air from the outside... Mystery solved. 😀
I have the same filter, and for me the solution is easy. Make the outflow longer then the inflow. The tube of my outflow is twice the length of the inflow and it is dead quiet. Also I do not use the original intake and outflow parts, but have my own, maybe that also has some impact as well.
I binned off the built in pre filter pipe and filled the tube and then every tray with seachem matrix . A large All pond solutions filter booster is now on the inlet side of my Oase and that's a much bigger pre filter
I talked to the oase turkey and they sent me a new one. I m still in shock how amazing customer care is this. I congratulate to oase for such a beautiful customer care. 😊😊👏👏👏
I had the same problem a few days ago on my biomaster 250, and the same method from this video did not solve it, then at first I thought that there was a foreign object that clamped the shaft and caused the exhaust to be unsmooth (ka!ka!ka!-sound), so I tried to follow the instructions. , I removed the shaft of the motor blade for inspection, and found no foreign matter, only a few traces of colonies and algae, so I cleaned the various parts on the shaft, and after the correct installation, it is in normal operation (no noise)
It is a pity that those filters with such good materials of construction do not work correctly, in the end I refuse to choose Oase for these reasons, I love the pre filter and the internal heater, buuuuut ... A JBL for example, it is better if it does not have those functions. In addition, the power head is the same size for all models, an excessive way to lower production costs. Add to those options that you mention, all good, you can also widen the diameter of the prefilter tube with a small brico and 20mm pvc tube and many, many holes. Un saludo
I had the same problem, I drilled 3 times the amount of hole in the prefilter tube and changed the foams to hand made course foams, never had one burp of air since and my filter is totally silent water flow has improved massively
Try to make the very small holes in the pipe of the pre-filter bigger and also add a lot more holes to it and use a coarse foam on the pre-filter. This should help the water get sucked in the rest of the filter a lot better and also it increses rge flow of the filter and with these improvements less air will be in the system.
Howdy! I think the problem is caused by that surface skimmer that is not adjusted properly and an air suction occurs from time to time. I solved this problem by simply adjusting the water flow. I hope it helps.
Hello MJ. I have the same biomaster 850. Have the same problem of noise. Have done many experiments on it as why it’s noisy. It’s because of filter media. Some filter media are light weight and floats in water. Using such filter media in filter causes air noise. Make sure your filter media is heavy weight. Like I was using some sort of stones which are very light and was not sinking in water it was the cause of noise. I changed the media and all set filter is working very well now. Hope this will help everyone who has noise in the filter. Please do not use filter media which is very light weight and won’t sink in water.
It Definetly Worker for me. I am gonna try now to make more and bigger holes for the flow so I can put the sponges back. Maybe sponges with bigger holes as well
I have a Oase clone, the Eden filter. Mine doesn't make any noise. If a filter produces noise from the propeller, use some vaseline and the noise will be gone also.
Try a bypass for your co2 reactor and you will be able to manage the flow and get the maximum out of your filter. You can achieve high concentration of co2 even with low flow through the reactor.
I had the same problem on my 350, even after drilling the holes suggested by Pondguru. What worked for me was overdosing Seachem Stability. My theory was it would eat the sludge and whatever microorganism was causing the gas build up
I have a bio master 600 on a 90p tank - I agree that the burping can be annoying, typically it will burp 6-10 times an evening. But I believe I get this from air entering the skimmer intake and more so after water changes - I knock the sides of the filter if it continues. On the other hand having the prefilter is great (especially if you have leaf debris floating up) and the flow is good (even a little strong) so I think it’s a worth while trade off.
Same issue. I resolved by accident, by forgetting to replace the plastic shell that fits over the pre-filter sponge column. This achieved the same thing (providing better flow through the pre-filter) but I still have the sponges in place and working.
by removing the end cap the water bypasses the sponges and goes directly into filter without pre filtration (less resistance)... And the pre filter is main selling point of this unit. :D
@@bizovskiPerhaps it does somewhat. I think the enclosure is also mainly an aid to removing the prefilter with water heavy sponges. It makes that task easy.
Hi, I bought the BioMaster Thermo 250 like 3 weeks ago, and without doing any modifications, by itself is really quiet on my bedroom. The bubble sound at the begining were normal for the new installation, but after a week, the noise settled down for good. I wonder if you are using different tubing sizes or any other add-ons for your filter, that may affect the performance somehow. I've seen those videos from Pondguru about how to PimpMyFilter, to increase the flow which at the end was not really 100% accurate after checking the flow rate. I believe that we need to clean the sponges on the Pre-filter more often than announced in order to keep a constant flow-rate, but also to avoid any impeller exhaustive force while there's some clogged sponges in order to keep the internal flow. Clean the O-rings for any debris you may have and add some silicone lubricant as was also recommended by GreenAqua instead of vaseline which contains chemicals that deteriorate rubber faster than silicone lubricants.
@@MJAquascaping Hi, did you checked for any plastic deformation on the filter cover or any other filter parts? It may create air leaks like you mentioned. Any hot surface where you have your filter inside the cabinet. I have some fans that runs inside my cabinet to prevent hot air condensation coming from the power strip and other electronical components I have on my setup. It won't hurt to 2ble check for this. Specially on thouse big and beautiful setups like yours.
I’ve never had any big issues with any of my bio masters but I have had some noise from one. That was my own fault when doing a water change I messed up some how, but it has been fine since. I also think the flow situation could be because the flow stated by oase is the flow you get with only the supplied sponges inside, and because we obviously add other media to it, it slows the flow 🤔🤷🏽♂️ (Noise levels in my living mostly get drowned out by the air pump for the tanks that don’t have biomasters 😅)
There is one other thing to be mindful of when maximizing your filter's gallons/liters per minute and that is the intake and outlet hoses to/from the filter. If they haven't been cleaned in a while, it will significantly reduce the flow. I have one aquarium with a wer/dry filter, and if the hoses are not cleaned out, the flow is reduced enough that air bubbles will get trapping in the overflow siphon tube to the point of breaking the siphon entirely and stopping all filtration. Once the hoses are cleaned out and that fine layer of biofilm that builds up in all hoses over time is removed, everything runs exactly as it should. Another aquarium I have has a canister filter, lily pipes etc., and has similar problems with reduced flow if I don't take those hoses off and clean them once a month or so. I do not have a canister filter with a pre-filter option on it, but it might be worth a try to clean out the hoses, then put the pre-filter back in and see if that eliminates the "burping" issue.
In my 350 it's the same. I noticed that as long as I do not clean the tubes and hoses it starts to get worse. That's why I think it's because of the lili tubes. After changing the water, when the filter is turned off and turned on, I press the button a few times. Gentle tilting helps too.Vazelina, however, does not convince me of the will of the spray to silicone gaskets. Regards and it is a pity that there will be no Vivarium :(
@@lucktion8052 Having many hobbies that involve o-rings I've learned from experience that silicone grease is the secret to long, trouble free service of devices using them. I'm actually surprised how it seems to be largely overlooked in the aquarium hobby.
I am not sure about Oase but Eheim has no issue recommending vaseline for their o-rings. I have the email from the Eheim technical department to prove it. :)
I didn’t have burps as much as constant rattling with some small burps. Then I dismantled it, took out the impeller, rinsed it and put it back in and it was fine. People online seemed to say air can get trapped inside when you do water changes. My intake has a surface skimmer so maybe air got in through the top of it when the water level was low. Thank god that’s all it took to fix it lol. My tank is in my bedroom and the sound was so concerning. Nightmares of waking up with water flooded on my floor or something.
I am using the 350er Version and didnt have any issues with it...until i redecorated my fishtank a few days ago and my fish had to take refuge in a smaller plastic container. Somehow i had those noise issues all the time...while using the same setup i had in my big shallow tank. So what did change? Yes i followed Pondgurus advice to drill more holes into the prefilter and got the more course sponges...but even then i had no issues with bubbles building up before that. I also used fine mesh intake covers cause of my shrimp so all this wasnt an issue... What had changed? My filter intake and out werent at a 90 degrees...they were tilted a little, the outflow leaning into the plastic tank and the intake leaning out in a 20-30 degrees. In my opinion...since now that my filter is back at my bigger shallow tank and the outflow and intake are properly adjusted again there are no more bubbles. So a tilted intake or outflow might cause the bubbly issues.
Good job always. Really so helpful for oase users. You always tell good things so we always support and love your work legend. Keep sharing more tips. ...Goldy
Had the same problem with the 850. Put vaseline on all the rubbers(prefilter/thermo/in and outlet) and problem solved. I didn't remove any sponches or altered anything..
you may just need run a smaller canister filter like the 600, seems like it may be to powerful for this tank, also the tank that the 850 was tested on could have been a much taller tank, food for thought love your videos man 👍
I have a 350 and a 600 on my tanganyika aquarium. And the 600 always purge out microbubbles and that have never happend to my 350. I realised that I have changed the prefilter sponge to the corse ones in my 350. I think the sponge is way to fine for a prefilter..
I have a biomaster 250 and only get a few burps after cleaning the system. After that I don’t get any at all. My prefilter sponges are the blue coarser ones, but even when they get really clogged up and I can see a significant lower flow I still don’t get any burping. Maybe it’s just because the pump is just weaker. I’m using coarse prefilter, inside I have red fine sponge followed by white fine filter (looks like cotton) 2 levels of seachem matrix and finally a layer of active carbon fabric.
And the noise in the Biomaster 850 originates from... the Juwel stand. (like you have here) The Juwel stand looks nice, but has a number of design flaws. First of all, it has an open backside where you put the pump. Somehow logical, but the open closet becomes a resonant box. Any noise is amplified, in particular the low frequencies. You can reduce that using acoustic foam and closing the backside as much as possible. That did help somewhat, but the best solution in the end was to take the pump out of the closet. For reasons of strength the stand has 3 segments. Great, but the Fluval FX4 doesn't fit in it. The material is also such that one a hinge is broken you can't repair it My conclusion: the Biomaster 850 is silent enough, it's the design of the Juwel stand
Keep in mind that if you have restrictions on the discharge side of the pump, they will also affect the flow coming into the filter. So the reactor can definitely restrict the overall flow. If a pump needs to overcome restrictions on the discharge side, it needs to put in more work to overcome that and keep the same amount of flow through the whole system as without restriction. Since the power of the pump is fixed, the restrictions on the discharge do affect the flow as well.
So this is of course true. Limiting output will limit input - water is incompressible and it has to go somewhere, but doesn't really address the purge issue. If the flow is equal on both the inlet and the outlet then the filter is operating as designed. However, if there is an imbalance then the water level inside the filter will change. If the inflow is greater than the outflow and if the water has no way to vacate the filter (i,e through a leak) it will back up into the intake in order to maintain equilibrium, reducing overall flow rate. If the intake is less than the outlet then a vacuum is drawn, and the water level will decrease, drawing in air around the gaskets and seals, as is hypothesized here. Running it this way is probably hard on the gasket and seals, and puts greater load on the impeller. If the inlet is being restricted, and the vacuum in its place is the source of the bubbles, limiting the outlet proportionally to the resistance seen on the inlet should help at the cost of the overall flow rate. My guess is that adding a flow control valve on the outlet might solve the issue.
Hi MY I did comment when you initially reviewed this filter that having watched reviews on the Oase and the Aquael 2000 I opted for the latter. I commented on how quiet the filter was and having run it for 6 weeks now I am delighted with my choice. In general of is whisper quiet and you only hear the faintest him when there is absolutely no other sounds in the room, even the clock is louder. A 2000 litre per hour is theoretically much too big for my 125 litre tank but I have packed it with an array of filter media and still need to throttle the flow to stop it redistributing the substrate. I am confident that once the foreground plants grow a little more I Will be able to open the flow up more. Perhaps you could try one yourself and give us all a direct comparison and see if you agree with Pondguru?
The airbubbels and noise are caused by cavitation of the pump. The pressure in the inletside is too low, due to the restrictions caused by the small holes in the pre-filter pipe. The solution is drilling extra holes in the pipe.
Unfortunately we all have different issues with these bigger filters (600 and up). Mine burps all the time and I was in contact with Oase for months when I finally just gave up. None of their suggestions were working, they gave me new parts saying that sometimes these are the causes and one of them is the prefilter and putting a lubricant around prefilter rings.
There is an other opportunity to update the filtration flow: modify the prefilter tube with a bigger one (20 mm of internal diameter) and drill extra holes on it. With More holes, with a bigger tube the filtration will works much more properly. What do you say about that?
My thoughts. (I don't own one of these.) 1) One way to limit leaking is to use the pump to pull the water through the filter by placing the pump just before the filter outlet. Therefore everything before the pump is in a state of negative (sucking) pressure. So if a seal is leaking it will allow some air in but hopefully not let any water out. This is good design from a stopping leaks point of view. 2) Of course if air is getting in then you are going to get your "burping" problem. 3) Some have said use silicone grease on the seals but I would recommend "Food Grade Silicone Grease". (Heavily used in food production equipment.) 4) It takes a fair but of power for a pump to pull a vacuum, I have no idea if this is a contributing factor. Someone also mentions cavitation which happens when propellers/impellers spin really fast, again I have no idea if this is a contributing factor. But you could test for both by simply waiting for your filter to run silent then hold your finger over the inlet to restrict the flow. What happens? 5) Many "My filter is just fine!" comments. Perhaps they just have a filter with good seals! :-) My number 1 suspect is very minor leaky seals letting a small amount of air in. Air collects somewhere inside the filter up to the point where it suddenly gets pulled through the filter causing the "Burp". Again I don't own one of these so take everything I say here with a grain of salt! :-)
Hey, a little late here but I just purchased this filter as well and will be breaking the “rules” and using it on an 85G reef tank. Curious to see how this until works after one year. Also, in your new saltwater tank you used the lava rocks which I’m curious to know about as well. Love your content & delivery, btw 😊 Thank you!
Have you tried to put the external filter in a styrofoam box? I never tried it, but maybe, if put vertically, you can make holes for the pipes and cable and finally close the cap (if you have put it vertically, it should work as a door), it should insulate a bit
I wouldn't use vaseline for the rubber gaskets as oil based grease can degrade the rubber over time. You're better off using a silicone grease such as Super o-lube as it will not cause any issues. I'm an aerospace engineer, so we were taught about how the nitrile rubber is affected when using incorrect lubricants.
I really wanted this one for the built in heater but I guess I'll deal with an in-line heater + a Fluval 207. Don't wanna deal with all this... bummer.
I really wish they start selling the thermo series here in Japan. I don't like having to deal with the giant inline heater and cooler whenever doing maintenance. After seeing this video though, I'm not too sure if I'd want one if it's louder than my humming Eheim.
Mine was making a lot of noise also. I switched out the blue 45 ppi pre filters that can with the filter and I now use 60 ppi pre filters. The flow has increased and the noise has stopped.
Never had an Oase filter, but my Eheim classic makes a bit of noise. Good thing it's outside my room lol. Hope someone out there finds this vid useful!
I don't understand how such a system can be sucking air into the filter - where is it coming from? Once it has purged all of the air from the canister after initial set up there is no way that air can be sucked into it unless there is a leak somewhere on the inlet or on the pump head or the pre-filter gasket. If it constantly gurgles and blows air out it must be sucking the air in from somewhere. The only other possibility is cavitation from the impeller, that seems pretty unlikely.
This is exactly what I believe,, I have exactly the same problem and I use biomaster 600 thermo. there is definitely something wrong with the filter that we have not been able to find yet
cavitation would make different noise and will implode instantly leaving you with no actual bubbles or air ... as it is a vacuum that implodes again. It could only really happen at the impellor and that thing (being plastic) would be gone in 60 seconds (pun intended). I think it is drawing negative pressure because of the restriction and while that happens it draws in air via the outer seal OR the seal around the priming pump... I think the priming pump seal could be the culprit.
I really appreciate it when people share the reality of things not working as intended.
Thanks for sharing that 👍👍
It sounds like cavitation, this is caused by a number situations in the world of hydraulics. :-)
True, Vaseline is not good for 'O' ring seals and will damage them over time.
I did the same on my 350. No noise at all! 👍🏻
Nit true.
Ive fone it and didnt help
In liquid nature they told me to drill bigger holes as well when i bought one these Oase filters
I know the same thing from other users!

Fantastic video, A UA-camr who tells the truth, I purchased the same filter in January for my birthday, and had the exact same problems videoed it and spoke to their customer services they sent me a new connection for the hoses, but it did nothing I took the sponges out of the pre-filter still the same, ,taking sponges out of the pre-filter I can’t see why you’d have to modify the tube like Pond Guru did to sort this problem out ,I think Richard was addressing the problem with the flow, not the noise and the continuous microbubbles ,loved the idea with the heater and all the
Trays but I had to send it back
Today I purchased a new filter Oase BioMaster 850 for 120*45*45 tank.
Regards
Yeah my outflow pipe is noisy too. I have done something similar to get rid of an annoying humm.
100% correct! I too reduced ‘droop’ to zero by shortening hoses and now makes no noise. Also increased number of holes in pre filter pipe.
You could use a bypass for splitting the Flow through the co2 reactor. this should reduce the backpressure while injecting the same amount of co2
I binned off the built in pre filter pipe and filled the tube and then every tray with seachem matrix . A large All pond solutions filter booster is now on the inlet side of my Oase and that's a much bigger pre filter
Hi maybe a bit late reaction. Everytime i open my biomaster i have this problem. You can easily fix it by just keep pumpin the auto fill up system😉
This one works i just cleaned the shaft of the motor blade and removed the algae and put back again and everything back to normal.
How often to you need to clean your prefilter after your changes?
I cut out 10ppi coarser foams for the prefilter to reduce them being clogged and reducing flow. Adding more holes is also a good idea.
Exactly this should help.
You can see it in the channels of Dukes Aquaristik Experimente or Liquid Nature
Inside the filter cabin their should not be any filter media floating. Floating filter media is a main reason for air noise.
With two changes it will be hard to quantify the intake flow increase. You could put a sponge on your intake to help the pre filter
That sounds like a very good idea. Has it caused you any problems and did it lengthen the interval between needing to clean your prefilter?
@@Vulpes10No problems and yes
@@KevinMatassa Thanks, great help.
by removing the end cap the water bypasses the sponges and goes directly into filter without pre filtration (less resistance)...
Yeah I think the problem that I have only happens to the larger biomasters 600 & 850. I haven't heard many people complaining about the smaller models
What MJ said. My smaller Oase filters work fine, 100, 250, 350. The 850 sounds like it's drowning.
I’ve never had any big issues with any of my bio masters but I have had some noise from one. That was my own fault when doing a water change I messed up some how, but it has been fine since.
I also think the flow situation could be because the flow stated by oase is the flow you get with only the supplied sponges inside, and because we obviously add other media to it, it slows the flow 🤔🤷🏽♂️
(Noise levels in my living mostly get drowned out by the air pump for the tanks that don’t have biomasters 😅)
I've got the biomaster 350 on my 190L tank and it's silent out the box sometimes have to check to make sure it's running.
Regards and it is a pity that there will be no Vivarium :(
I would suggest silicone grease instead of "Vaseline" which, will breakdown the O-rings over time...
Yes I agree with that comment, you may find that the rubber o-ring will start to swell up and cause issues down the line.
I was looking for this comment before commenting it myself
@@lucktion8052 Having many hobbies that involve o-rings I've learned from experience that silicone grease is the secret to long, trouble free service of devices using them. I'm actually surprised how it seems to be largely overlooked in the aquarium hobby.
I am not sure about Oase but Eheim has no issue recommending vaseline for their o-rings. I have the email from the Eheim technical department to prove it. :)
@@polanskiman oh right that’s cool! If the manufacturer recommends it then I would have no problem using it. 🙂 cheers for the info.
@MJ Aquascaping
you can drill more holes in the pre filter tube, then you can still use the pre filter because more holes allow more flow through it
Good job always. Really so helpful for oase users. You always tell good things so we always support and love your work legend. Keep sharing more tips. ...Goldy
I’ve had an Oasé bio master 600 running for a year now. No noise or air bubble problems at all.
What color of sponge ?
@@supermeseriasu orange
@@elmee96 Before was blue? I have blue and is quiet
@@supermeseriasu lucky you. Didn't work out for me..
(like you have here)
The Juwel stand looks nice, but has a number of design flaws.
The material is also such that one a hinge is broken you can't repair it
My conclusion: the Biomaster 850 is silent enough, it's the design of the Juwel stand
When is oase going to address this issue? So many people complain about the same thing. They're going to lose sales.
Really thank you very much, the same thing happens to me, when I arrive I remove the pre-filter!
I might do that! Thank you!
I also drilled a lot of extra holes in the predikten tube. Never heard any burping.

Finall caught your video early. Great as always and beautiful scapes. I need to get an oase for my next canister. Keep up the good work.
I do not own an oase bio master but love this channel too much to not watch lol
My thoughts. (I don't own one of these.)
1) One way to limit leaking is to use the pump to pull the water through the filter by placing the pump just before the filter outlet.
(Heavily used in food production equipment.)
4) It takes a fair but of power for a pump to pull a vacuum, I have no idea if this is a contributing factor.
My number 1 suspect is very minor leaky seals letting a small amount of air in.
Hey Paul.. I want to know about Siesta period lighting... I hope u will make a video about it... Plz make a short video
What about going with a less fine PPI for the pre-filter? They sell 30ppi down from the 45 default.
It's time for MJ Aquascaping t-shirts and merchandise!
Un seul conseil, essayez un filtreur Fluval. Ils sont mieux conçus et plus silencieux.
I just tilt mine back and forth when I clean it. I also found the lock for the impeller has to be secure. I only use one sponge in mine.
You can try to do what pound guru on Yt shows, he drilled more holes in the intake pipe in the prefilter
Hey MJ. Mine feels a bit rumbley/vibratey - I’m thinking maybe the impeller? Do you just clean yours or use silicone etc?
Never had an Oase filter, but my Eheim classic makes a bit of noise. Good thing it's outside my room lol. Hope someone out there finds this vid useful!
I have an Oase BioMaster 850... never had any problems with noise from it...
I recently bought a BioMaster 600.. I’m worried about it messing with my reactor, how do you release the trapped air?
My Co2 reactor has a little valve on top that i can manually open to remove the air
Been waiting for this video the air bubbles are so annoying I ended up giving up and sold my Thermo 350
For me what did the difference was to change to lily pipe to a jet outlet
Hello, could you please tell me what is the lighting of the aquarium in the background?
Others recommend using silicone lube like for scuba gear rather than vaseline since it is petroleum based and will degrade rubber seals 👍🏻
I have two Biomaster 250 Thermo, they are quiet. Those noices only occur after water change for say 30 sec. Seems i was lucky with them.
