    I have two Oase thermo 600's and I found there is a design flaw, the pre-filter down tube has too few holes to suck up water. So I took a drill and added four times more holes in the down tube, and I changed my 60ppi (black) sponges out and replaced them with orange sponges (30ppi) and the filters no longer burp and even pump out more flow than before.

    I appreciate your informative videos. I have used the Biomaster 350 for 2 years. To remove the pre-filter from a short cabinet, tilt the top of filter towards you rather than pull entire filter out. Also, in my experience the bubble burps are primarily cavitation effect. To reduce or eliminate the burping, I reduced the output flow,. I understand that may not work for you as you find the flow is already to0 low, but it worked for my situation.

    I've been using the 250 in a 60p and agree with your findings. With the constant burping I find tilting it in all directions after any maintenance to the filter helps. If any of the hoses are touching the cabinet it can cause an annoying noise. Hope that helps anyone:)

    I got this filter (600) for two years now and I still think it's great. For the gurgling sound, the solution is to seal the prefilter with petroleum jelly for aquarium seals. Also, after cleaning the pre-filter, pump by hand a few times, and after activating the filter, run it for a moment at half flow until all air bubbles have fallen out. sometimes it is also worth tilting the filter in different directions for a moment. p.s. when you measure the volume level in a cabinet, it increases because the cabinet is a resonance box.

    Hey buddy, I just got a Oase Biomaster 350. I did a bunch of research in this and the flow you got has a few factors at play such as your PPI on your pre filter. If it's higher it'll take more force to pull the water through, not to mention all the gunk you've already collected. Thanks for the video!

    Nice video amd great information! The only thing I think I would have done differently was the flow test. If you kept the bucket at the same hight as the top of the tank the head height would have been properly accounted for. However, it is probably such a minor difference that it wouldn't really matter. Just my thoughts. Really enjoying your content, keep up the good work!!!

    I doubled the amount of holes in the prefilter, and swapped all the filter pads for 2kg of Bacto Rings, 3 kg Bacto Stones, 750gr of active coal and 400 gr of Purigen.. the only filter pad that I kept is the orange top one... I have no noise issue nor air bubbles.. I am pretty happy with this filter..

      I changed from the Fluval FX6 to a Biomaster 600. The quality of the Fluval is so-so. The impeller has to be changed every 1-2 years. Costs (in Europe) 1/3 of a new canister.
      The FX6 has more power, but... Honestly for no use
      The pre filter is nice and even main cleaning is faster and more easy on the Biomaster than the FX6. Also the Biomaster takes more biomass. I'm not looking back.

    In setting up my first aquascape - still a work in progress - I originally considered this filter but after looking at various reviews particularly the reviews on Pimp my Filter - I opted for the Aquael Ultramax 2000. It has a prefilter and in my view a greater capacity for filter media, it also has a much better flow rate without the need for the considerable modifications suggested in the Pimp my Filter review.
    Admittedly it lacks the internal heater which would be a great addition but my main requirement for a filter is it's ability to filter - so for now I'll live with this little irritation.....
    Thanks for all your videos, they have been a great source of inspiration for my first venture into aquascaping..😊

    • @rogerlangford2836

      @@originalgamesta6268 it's been excellent, very quiet, very efficient. I've altered the filter material and gone back to sponge in three and porous media in the other two. Once you work out how to remove the prefilter it's easy to do as is getting over any air locks that may occur when doing s full clean, which is also quite easy.
      All in all I cannot fault it and it has been excellent value for money....

    Interesting review thank you. As one of the other comments stated you can drill another 20 holes in the prefilter pipe to increase the flow. Alternatively and even better, replace the tube completely with a bigger white 21.5mm overflow pipe from a DIY store and drill 40 holes in it. It will fit over the connector rather than inside it. The foam rings will still fit.

  • @justintechnic1995
    @justintechnic1995 2 роки тому

    Regarding flow, would be interesting to check the flow rate w/o the inline diffuser vs empty without media material. And with respect to the length of the prefilter it’s actually the same length as the biomaster 600, and so conversely I was expecting it to be one level longer for added pre-filtration capacity. This means there’s empty space below between the prefilter and the bottom of the biomaster which is just empty. Your points about it being hard to remove the prefilter when inside a tank stand is real and I have to keep mine outside of the stand as a result. Great review! 👍

    Have a 350: pretty noisy at the begining, now it's silent comparing with the cost or Eheim models.
    250 and 350 don't have problem with bubbles, but once they're cleaned the prefilter/filter they need hours to expel air bubbles. For example, I also have an Eheim Pro 4 and only needs 2-3 minutes to be free of bubbles. I don't think oxigen and CO2 amount could cause burping, it's the design of the very filter that produces that burping, because my Eheim doesn't make that effect
    Flow: 1150 litres vs 400 l in real life
    Thus: flow is a bit dissapointing, but the quality and the lack of noise made this filter one of the best choice
    Regards of the markwt

Haven't opened the main body yet but clean prefilter every 2-3 weeks. Changed the Helex for Biohome. Performed flawlessly. Not mega flow but my water tests are all good so must be sufficient. 3:14 made me chuckle because I literally planned and shot half of a video the other day about how to avoid flooding your fishroom by accidentally removing the pre-filter first. But like you say, the safety mechanism makes this impossible. For whatever reason, I managed to open the pre-filter on its own once ages ago, but it must have been by brute force. So I added it to the ideas list thinking it'd be a good piece of advice to share. When replicating the "problem" for the video, I realised that of course Oase had thought of this! Such a waste of an afternoons video making...... You could have used my moody cinematic shots of the filter for your video, they'll never see the light of day now! 😂 Anyway, great video, great filter! Cheers.

    You should have measured the flow when the output was on the same level as your aquarium water line...with this setup, even when unpowered you would get a considerable water flow. You can also raise the flow by raising the height of the filter, however impractical that might be. Now what i would want to see is more information on that co2 reactor ;p

    I suspect that burping is often due to poor seal. But since the pump creates a negative pressure in the filter housing (sucks), instead of a leak you basically suck air into the filter. Properly cleaning and lubricating the seals often helps.

    MJ I used to also have an Oase Bio Master Thermal and I also suffered from issues with noise, I actually remember speaking to you about it at the time in comments when you first got yours, and telling you how mine was not making any noise at all, that mine the biomaster 350 was actually in my bedroom and not inside a cabinet, yet was so quiet sometimes I would have to check it was still working, however it did not last long and like a lot of others I'd found after turning off the filter for cleaning the filter would be hell to listen too! Which had only gotten worse after having my ears professionally cleaned! I realised the bio master wasn't at all as quiet as I'd initially thought & in fact it was so loud after that it really had to go. Since then I've been using my back up filter an internal Fluval U3. My question is you replaced yours with another external filter which looks gorgeous but what is it actually like with the DB levels is it quite enough for a bedroom outside of a cupboard? Or do you know or anyone else who's reading this comment happens to know of a good external (not necessarily with a built in heater) filter I could replace my temporary Fluval with? My aquarium is 90*40*45cm approx 90lit I'd want something with a 10x capacity turn over so something equivalent to the biomaster 350.

But lately I found great pleasure in using uv sterilizer and I'm starting to think a canister filter with built in uv will be awesome. Uv sterilizer is my secret weapon against algae and having crystal clear water and glass. It requires diy so you can have it before the biomedia stage of filteration.

    I was using fluval 207 and it was burping all the time, just like your biomaster. Now I'm using Aquael Ultramax 1500 for the past 2 years and I never ever heard a single burp. Even though I have it connected between sunsun hw-603 prefilter and CO2 reactor. In fact that filter is so silent that when I shut the cabinet I cannot hear a thing, even at night.

    Hi there, you are doing great videos!
    I had same problem “ burping “ with different canister filter.
    Try to tilt slightly the filter when it’s running to all directions.
    That way will release all air that is trapped In different places.I am doing it every time when I need to clean up the filter as I am getting air farts in the tank!
    Did work for me hopefully will work for you as well:)
    Let me know if you try it

  • @localhost4460
    @localhost4460 2 роки тому

    I think the "burping" is more prevalent in larger filters. I have a cheap canister filter of likewise size, and it burped for about 2-3 months. I'm not sure it's a design factor, and this it's more a volume factor?

    Hey man. if you want more flow in your filter (like insanely more flow) drill some extra holes in the pre-filter plastic tube. I have the 350 one and increased the flow up to 50% by doing that. Cheers! :)

      A little bit, but because the burps happen mostly at the end of the day it's okay.

    Hi, with a actual flow rate of 600l per hour it could used for tanks less than 200l per hour, better to go for fluvale fx6

  • @jeevandewee

    Great video again! I have the 250T, 350T and the 600T (also JBL and Eheim filters). The flow is a bit lower than that of the Eheim and JBL filters, but can be improved by drilling extra holes in the intake tuber inside the pre-filter. Also I think that in your case you are losing some flow with the reactor. I don’t have the Burping issue in mine, with the exception of the tabk where I am using the Neo-Flow lily pipes. The integrated skimmer is pulling in air every now and then. I absolutely love these filters because of the integrated heater and pe-filter. I also suffer from lack of cabinet space to lift the pre-filter out, but I lean my filter over towards me to lift the pre-filter instead of taking the filter out. I spill a bit of water doing so, but its managebleable.

    @MJ Aquascaping: I see you still use the intaqo, how often do you recalibrate the co2 probe? I never made the jump to co2 computer due to the recalibration requirements(every 2-weeks/monthly) but I wonder how it has been for you:)

    In other video you mentioned aiming for 6 to 10 times worth of water cycling per hour, does this mean this filter would only be good for a 60 litre tank???

  • @Justin-yk3ox
    @Justin-yk3ox Рік тому

    Seems like the measured flow rate is similar between all models. Would be tough to justify the expense of an 850 vs a 350 or 600 based on that.

    Yes they look great quality filters as I have never owned one, but I couldn't put up with the noise and spurting, I use and swear by the jbl cristal profi range, there well made, very quiet, a no nonsense filter,and good value, it takes 20mins to clean a filter once every 2-3 months. No bother to me.

    I have an Eheim 350 that has never gave me any trouble or anything but it is a bit on the small size for my needs. I have some messy Discus in a planted tank. I am thinking of either an Oase Biomaster 600 or an Eheim 600. Seeing all the burping issues all over the internet I'm to concerned about the Oase after owning the Eheim 350 that has never had any issues.
    But on the other hand I cant see any english review about the Eheim 5e series.. It is like they are not being sold that much.

    I sit my Biomaster 600 on a smooth bottom tray in the cabinet and simply slide the tray forward to remove the pre-filter. You must have a low bioload/stocking density to get away with cleaning your pre-filter only once a month - though I do notice you have the course 30ppi pre-filter sponges. I have to clean my pre-filter every 7-10days or the flow drops off considerably, but I am using the finer blue 45ppi sponges. I run my filter on a 200 litre heavily stocked community planted tank. If after 6 months when I give the main filter a clean it looks like it doesn't need a clean, then I may switch to the courser 30ppi pre-filter sponges and hope I can reduce the frequency of my pre-filter cleans down to fortnightly.

    • @migueleespinosa2632
      @migueleespinosa2632 2 роки тому

      It may be more cleaning intervals, but think of the dirt you are removing from the tank! The other sponges are participating in bioactivity. If it doesn't look like it needs a clean then you can extend the major cleaning a few more month. I would replace the other foams with bio media and be confident it would be effectively working because of the pre filter. I would add a medium foam at the intake to balance the mechanical service.

    The filter might had help in the flow test from the siphon power because the tank water was higher than the bucket...

  •  2 місяці тому

    I have the BioMaster 350 and the flow rate is 300 liters per hours compared to the 1100 advertised.
    I've drilled larger holes in the intake pipe, reduced the biomedia in the trays so that they are half full of Seachem Matrix, put coarse foam on the intake pipe, shortened the hoses to about 1m length but I only managed to get 300 liters per hour....very dissapointed. Barely managed to have 3x turnover on my 100 liter tank.

    Just as a precaution to anyone wanting to use the oaze as it is advertised... Don't if you need the heater to keep up. I have set up my 240l aquarium with as advertised biomaster 250, but it only comes with 150w heater, and you can't put bigger in! It didn't keep up, so I now have an additional internal heater which I didn't wanted in the first place... Just buy a version without the heater and install a proper inline heater

    I have the 850 as well. After I have cleaned the pre-filter and switched the valves back to the 'locked' position, I find that I have to pump the priming mechanism far too much in order to get water back in the filter. What am I doing wrong? Maybe someone can offer a solution.

    I have a 20 gallons tank and I bought the Oase filtro smart 100 but the flow is very slow, almost no flow in the tank. I have no fish yet but I’m getting the fish in a few weeks. Any ideas on how to increase the flow? I turn it up to the max but it still very slow.
