    thank you for making this video, my husband has been working on his friend's boat 1979 glas-ply with a volvo penta 280 A and changed the shifter cable {morse} but that didn't fix the problem, but when he took off the cover where you show the lock mechanism we found the problem. thanks again happy wife.

    I just lost both springs for this mechanism, making backing up impossible. This will help me installing the new ones. Thank you.

    Thanks so very much for the explanation, much appreciated! out of curiosity what lubrication are you using to grease all the working mechanisms?

      Thank you for appreciating. I use a special water resistant grease for marine applications. You can find it very easily on the market. Anyway any grease is always better than no grease at all.

    Ciao Stefano. Love ure vids. Was planning on checking this on my sterndrive but couldnt locate. I dont have rod nor reversse locking thing. I have a vp duoprop dp-e 1.95 from 2000. Does some stern drives dont have this or is it hidden somewhere insiden the drive?

      Hi Martin. Thank you very much. I don't know. I just know my stern drive. You had better get a workshop manual to start with. Best regards.

    I have recently just purchased a boat with this locking mechanism. I belive the shift cable has been replace a few years ago. The problem I have is that when you shift into forward the cable PULLS the linkage. This causes the latch to be locked in forward position and realesed in reverse. If I switch the linkage to the other side the the linkage works properly but my shifter is the backwards.... I am stumped on what to do to fix this please help

      The cable must push while in forward and pull while in reverse otherwise the reverse locking mechanism cannot work properly.
      If that is not the case, please check the gear lever at the control panel. Probably something set not correctly.

    I know you posted this 4 years ago, but I just came across your video due to some work on my 270 outdrive. The mechanism for the reverse lock looks identical to what you show in your video. What I'd like to know is what adjustment keeps the pawl lock from grabbing the trim rod when it's in forward? The way mine is now working (I think I messed something up trying to get the reverse lock to work properly) when I pull back on the outdrive (simulating hitting something moving forward) the pawls grab the trim rod due to the spring pulling the locks upward and engaging the trim rod. Seems that it shouldn't do that.

      Hi. It is correct that the pawl lock grabs the trim rod when in forward. It is kept in this position by springs but, if the outdrive hits an obstacle, the spring will allow, above a certain impact force, the disengagement of the locking mechanism and the lifting of the outdrive. While in reverse, a cam actuated by the shift lever will move and prevent the locking mechanism to disengage whatever the pulling force might be.

    Hello I have a problem with the lock, it does not stay in place, I do not speak English well I use a translator, thank you

    • @stefanovaleretto3121
      @stefanovaleretto3121  3 роки тому

      It must stay in place. There is no reason why it doesn't. You have to understand why. Probably it is only a question of adjustment.

      @@stefanovaleretto3121 good evening thank you for your answer, it's just when I reverse gear, I think my system is reversed, I have to get the boat out of the water in the spring to check

      @@stefanovaleretto3121 Hello, I think my concern is that the boat stays in the water and that it ends up oxidizing, it should be taken out more often, hela, it's not possible
