Hi Rodney, I just wanted to thank you for your videos. You show great passion and precision! Your instructionals have a very comfortable pace. Great job indeed! As for the game: it's a true marvel. I love Blood Bowl, but I adore this game. It has a nice ruleset, fantastic miniatures and plays wonderfully fast. When you get the hang of it... it becomes an even greater game with lots of depth and offers a plethora of tactical choices. Glad to see you are convinced about the quality this game has to offer. Keep up the good work! Thanks again. Greetings from Belgium, Frank
Thank you for the kind compliment. I do try to present the information in a way that is clear, and it really helps to have the publishers check things over to catch any errors I might make, before they hit your eyeballs. It's a team effort :)
I should stop watching this... I'm getting really excited about it and I promissed myself I would never join the fever of these miniature games... these games where you have to use rulers and such...! Rodney is starting to convince me that this is a great game. Kudos, Rodney!!! Oh, and have a merry christmas and happy new year!
I was never a big fan of rulers in games either, but... well, I won't review, so I won't say more. Let's just say, sometimes the right game can change a persons mind :) Have a great Christmas, and thanks for giving the videos a chance, even though the game might not have immediately appealed at first.
Dang it Rodney! I was sure I wanted Blood Bowl, but my 13 year old has been watching these videos with me and is pushing me to get Guild Ball!!! Thank you for all these videos!
Thank you so much for doing these! We're getting ready to start a league and I'm the only one who knows the rules (well, mostly anyway)and having my group watch these will be a great tool to get them ready and make my life easier. Keep up the great work. Now when does the painting tutorials start? :)
Hi Rodney! Thanks for the video. I have a question regarding the wrap around. Let's say I roll a successful attack with 6 successes and my character has 4 columns. So, I choose a result in column 2. Therefore, I'd count forward 3, 4, then wrap around, and I'd be able to choose from 1 and 2 again? Is that right? Thanks for your help.
Grant Rodiek You're right, but not quite for the reasons you listed :). Your successes tell you how many columns you've unlocked (if you want to think of it that way). So by rolling six, you've unlocked all 4 of your columns. You have two leftover successes, but we'll get to those in a moment. Your first pick comes from any of your four columns, because they are all unlocked. After picking a result, no matter which column it was from, you can think of all the columns re-locking. Okay, now you have two successes leftover that weren't used. You start unlocking again, which gets you as far as column 2. So you can make your second pick from the first two columns. The column you picked the first time doesn't affect the columns you unlock for your second pick. 6 net hits on a 4 column playbook will always give you 1 pick from the first four columns and 1 pick from the first two columns. Rolling 7hits on a 3 column playbook would always give 1 pick from your 3 columns. Then 1 pick from your 3 columns. Then 1 pick from your first column. Does that make it clearer, or did I make it sound confusing?
Grant Rodiek I love that my favorite designer is watching my favorite UA-camr about one of my very favorite games 😍. What a cool community board gaming is :)
Great video! I am so excited about this game because I have been playing it for a while with the online printouts! One question- does it cost a gb to activate a special effect after you have bought an effect by picking a gb out of your playbook?
Joseph, I'm not sure I quite follow the question, but let me see if this covers it: If you have a Character Play that can only be paid for with a GB (sometimes you can pay influence for them instead, we'll get to that in a later video), then the only way to trigger that play is to use a GB as generated from your Playbook.
Hi Rodney! Watching the Mansions of Madness Video, make my remember and old video (4 years ago) the one of the "making of the wall" I guess you post it about this time in 2012. Happy Christmas Eve!!
another nice explanation and camerawork and highlights on the cards. amazing how much explanation this game demands. it seems like a minis game more than a sports game which it doesn't look like they call it either one on the box(?) does it play fast enough when you actually play it? PS can I ask why there's a feature film's worth of producer credits? ; )
Because I don't review on my show, it means I get to avoid trying to assess the speed of game play for other people :) That's more of a personal judgement thing (what's "fast enough" for one player is "not fast enough" for another). That said, we do hope to do a game play series on this as well, if we can fit it into the schedule, and you can see the game being played in that situation and then see how it lines up against your personal tastes. Lots of Producers aren't there? :) I am able to work on Watch It Played full time because each year I run a fundraiser, and viewers are able to donate to support the show. At a certain donation level, you also get your name in the credits, as a thank you for the support.
***** got it. yeah like Xwing minis is advertised as 'fast-paced' and I'd say 'relatively fast-paced' if you memorize and practice maneuvers lol the game has gotten more complex too. I do remember you saying something about producer credits a long time ago now that you mention it. Id say 'executive producers' ie who front the cash sort of like naming rights on a ballpark is how I look at it when I see that in movie credits ; Thats cool you took the initiative to do it full time. personality goes a long way too. something I have no resources on lol I could get people to pay me not to hear my voice lol look forward to more. I only have time to scrub thru longer vids.
Thanks for your videos Rodney. They're great! In this video you mentioned that Tapper would not be able to activate his ability "Marked Target" using his double guild ball result from his playbook. Is that accurate? He has to use both to be able to select that result? Thanks again.
Hey Tyler, glad you've found the videos helpful - thank you for the kind words. Yep, what we have in the video is correct (we run these by the publisher to ensure accuracy). To trigger Market Target, he can only use the column with the single GB symbol.
What a convoluted attack system. I think the developers were so focused on their unique mechanic systems and wacky dice resolution to remember to put "fun" into the game. Seriously this happens in so many games these days, the developers mash a bunch of "cool" mechanics and subsystems (like the playbook) together without considering the game overall, and end up with a dull game. So while it might be a "better", mechanically sound, tactical game than Blood Bowl, it sure doesn't seem like it'd be funner to play, especially for a sports game.
Well, you know how it goes - everyone defines fun differently. What one person finds convoluted, someone else finds engaging and fun. As long as the videos help you find which of those are true for you, then I'm happy!

Very nice to hear you're been enjoying the game :) Thanks for the very kind words about the show Frank!
You really have a knack for making the rules clear as crystal. Can't believe I've been playing it wrong this whole time.
Thank you for the kind compliment. I do try to present the information in a way that is clear, and it really helps to have the publishers check things over to catch any errors I might make, before they hit your eyeballs. It's a team effort :)
This is good stuff! I love that you're exposing GB to the masses - keep it up Rodney!!
It has been my pleasure!

Hey Rodney, you should use your industry contacts to find someone to buy the IP from Steamforged so Guild Ball can come back!
Dang it Rodney! I was sure I wanted Blood Bowl, but my 13 year old has been watching these videos with me and is pushing me to get Guild Ball!!! Thank you for all these videos!
Jack Gibson I feel the same way lol
Thanks for checking them out Jack!

Ha! I will avoid the painting tutorials, and leave that to those who are good at it :) Glad you're liking these. Shot the next one today.
Great information! Can't wait to finally play my first game.
Hope you have a great time playing!
Hey man! Thanks for another great video. Your channel has helped me tremendously. Any chance of doing a 'Mage Knight' tutorial??
No plans on that currently, but I don't pre-announce my schedule in case something changes. Glad you're enjoying the videos!

Double gee bees. Any chance for a season 4 update?
Not likely - I don't tend to revisit games I've already featured (and minis games are especially complex)
What a convoluted attack system. I think the developers were so focused on their unique mechanic systems and wacky dice resolution to remember to put "fun" into the game.
