the way Shane is looking at Dave during his solo, and the way Dave looked at him the whole time (I know some of it was for timing) but there was a lot being said/expressed with those looks. Equal parts heartbreaking and beautiful. The layers here are DEEP. thanks for the reaction.
First he lost Kurt, then Taylor, and then his Mother...Dave is no stranger to pain like most of us. In fact he recorded the first Foo Fighters album by himself, in the same studio Nirvana recorded their last time. Music never dies
I had no idea his mom had died until I read your comment!! Omg, she was his best friend, then Taylor. Crushing for Dave, I can't even imagine how he's even functioning.
@@jenniferfoster1692 they kind of kept it quiet...I think it was a shock to everyone. An interview with Violet said it was late July....I thought it was in August...
No stranger to pain. He’s lost many friends. At the same time, most of us don’t have to work through the grief in front of millions. And have the responsibility for so many people’s livelihood. Music never dies - it hurts and heals.
Watching Shane play is eerie. He’s got all his dad’s moves. The kid is a fierce powerhouse. Nandi did a song with them too and she also freaking killed it. These kids are keeping rock drumming alive for future generations and it’s a beautiful thing. Speaking of kids upholding their dad’s legendary status. Did you see Wolfgang Van Halen get up there and SHRED the Hot For Teacher guitar solo?? You HAVE to react to that! Flawless and makes it look easy.
Somebody buy Shane Hawkins a beer, he became a man today. He filled his Dad’s chair, and not only did him justice, but killed it. This young man showed maturity way beyond his years, and the emotional toll of playing “ My Hero” of all songs could not have been harder. This is an admirable young man!!
Shane has been playing drums since he was a little kid..even played at live shows in clubs with his dad's side band with Dave Navarro. He used to play a little drum kit behind his dad's, out of sight, during live Foo Fighter shows. Taylor's been saying Shane is better than him for a long time. So he's been preparing for this his entire life.
This has had me beyond impressed and in tears every time I see it. His dad just died months ago. My husband died suddenly at 45, then my mom died just months later. Our 5 kids were ages 6 to 23, with one being 16 as well. We were zombies, basically in a fog trying to function while in shock that first year. For this kid to be able to do this, in front of that crowd, now is beyond amazing. My kids cried too, knowing what he is feeling.
I've been watching him play this over and over since the concert. It's amazing, heart breaking, angry, happy, sad..all at the same time. Just kills me. Another child of a rockstar (even though he's like 30 yrs old), Wolfgang Van Halen, who is incredibly talented and has his own album out, toured with Guns N Roses, he played with Dave at the show too. The first time he's ever played his dad'd guitar parts in public on a Van Halen song.
Wolfgang is very talented. My understanding is Wolfgang does not normally play Eddie's music, because he wants to be known for his music. He did it this time in honor of Taylor because Taylor was a big Van Halen fan. (also giving a little tribute to his Dad who passed away in Oct. 2020) I am sure Eddie and Taylor was jammin up above watching their kids slam it and that is what they both did. Wolfgang writes his own music, sings, and plays several instruments. If any of you have not seen his work you should check him out...Mammoth WVH.
Jennifer, me too me! Although, 10 months apart, I also wondered if I was the only one. Then I noticed your comments and am so GLAD I’m not the only one! If I may, I’m so sorry for your loss. I hope you are doing well. Also, I mean this from the heart, if you ever need someone to talk to or even just shoot the shit, please feel free to reach out to me. 🥰
I cried multiple times while watching this concert. You should check out more videos if they are out there. Great perfomances. Nandi the 12 year old girl you reacted to also came out and drummed. The man watching Shane in the back is Omar Hakim he was David Bowie's drummer (among many other artists he's drummed for) . He and Nile Roger's comes out and they do "Let's Dance".
I was in the crowd and there were not many dry eyes left by the end of the night. Such a special gig with so many greats paying their respects and Im now a forever fan of Shane. He's a star in all the ways. Rest in power Taylor.
I’ve watched this so many times and it makes my ball every time 😭😭😭 It must have been such an amazing outlet for him and his grief. I hope he was able to hear and feel the crowed and how much love for his dad was I that place.
"That boy's going places"...YES. He knows what he's doing. He's got it in his body and soul. He's already got more skill than half the bands coming out anymore!
You can hear and see in his face all the pain that he is going through! What an outstanding performance what a impressive and brave kid! I could have never been that strong at his age! And me? It brings me to tears for sure 😢💪♥️
I was lucky to be one of those who were in the stadium. This was a huge highlight, one of many. The moment everybody started singing the chorus was when I broke down and it still gives me chills watching this. And Shane was an absolute beast!
I was there at Wembley on Saturday with my son who took up drumming after seeing the Foo Fighters in 2018. Taylor Hawkins was a huge influence on him. It was an emotional and also uplifting gig - up there with the best I’ve seen -and Shane playing was a real highlight.
I'm 21 now and haven't had the time to play in recent years but Taylor Hawkins was also a massive influence on me learning to play. when I started out I said to myself ill be happy if I can learn to play Everlong, even if I quit the next day and never touch a kit again. I did end up learning it and god damn it was fun to play. I even used to play with a pair of zildjian signature Taylor Hawkins sticks, still have them somewhere.
I think this one hit everyone in the ‘feels’. Playing on his dad’s drum kit, to the PERFECT song, kissing the drum right before that hard hitting solo and just doing an overall amazing job - with that raw emotion written all over his face….perfection
Love that moment before he does his drum solo where he puts his head down to kiss the snare drum. I’m not really a religious or spiritual person, but you can see Taylor’s spirit live on through his son. He was definitely with him
Gutted for Dave Grohl, he's still really cut up with the loss of Taylor, makes me emotional watching him trying to hold it together. God bless Taylor 💙
Another good performance from that concert was Wolfgang Van Halen playing guitar on a couple of Van Halen songs. He sounds just like his dad when he plays.
Taylor Hawkins and Dave Grohl inducted *RUSH* into The Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. 💙 Both, Geddy and Alex took Taylor's death very hard. They also played a LIVE tribute to Taylor at Wembley Stadium. 😇 RIP Taylor - Gone, but never forgotten. 🙏🏻
Great reaction bro. This was such a special performance, you could see how he put everything he had into it, and the fact he nailed it really brought it all together.
The tribute was almost 6 hours long but it definitely didn't feel that long. The whole thing was so well put together and so emotional 😢 the video you watched of Nandi, the kid that challenged Dave during the pandemic played on a song at the tribute. They had an incredible lineup of drummer's throughout the show.
Thank you for this intense poignant reaction! The entire tribute is awesome, but *this* with Shane and Grohl is soooo moving. "There goes my hero..." Thank you, thank you, thank you ❣
I spent all day after the tribute show watching #taylorhawkinstribute shorts and hashtags. I cried all day! Taylor was a phenomenal human and musician. Just like when the world lost Nipsy it lost a brilliant mind when it lost Taylor
I ain’t even gonna lie, I ugly cried watching him beat the hell out of those drums. To THAT song. Those who don’t know, that was His dads touring drum kit. You can see the emotion and rage of a 16 year old who lost his daddy. Shane is definitely his dads prodigy and did him proud. Dave and the others were constantly checking on him and you can see how proud they are of him. What a tribute to Taylor.
Hopefully he gets the help and support he needs to process what happened. It's tragic and it's at such a critical time in a young man's life. Hopefully! So he won't fall into the same terrible pattern of drugs that many artists and their children.
At such a young age,and the passing still being so fresh..... you know Shane is still grieving with the rest of them, probably having all sorts of emotions racing through his head, everything seems unfair (we have all been there as kids/teenagers) And the pressure he probably put on himself to make his dad proud of him.....then he executes it like this?! Shane came out passionate x 1000 and that broke me. Dave must have taken on himself a job to be there for Shane, for all we know it was a promise he made to Taylor. Constantly looking back at Shane if only for a few seconds,to make sure he was alright. But also positive moments where they tuned up and were supposed to finish it off together. Heartwarming to see Dave and Shane connect like this. Dave has reportedly said: "He is better then Taylor!". And that is by no means disrespect to Taylor,i think it was more in the lines of "Shane being 16 and already being at the level he is on". To build up confidence in the young guy at a time where he needs it the most. I love to see it!
Bruh I started crying the second he started playing. I am OF this generation. This song came out for Kurt after he died and Foo came out of the ashes of Nirvana. And now it's like layer upon layer for Dave. Shane is a fucking BEAST, I can see. This sounds as good as the record from, what, 25 years ago? This is a weird, weird time for your Gen X friends, people. We're feeling the wear of time.
R.I.P. Taylor. You're son is playing tribute to you along with your friend Nandi and the rest especially your bff Dave. It's hard to be left behind. Dave and I have that in common twice now.
That baby played for his Daddy and his life. He left everything on that stage. He's incredible .
Great comment respect ✌️
Shane is a young man with a responsible attitude who loves his father and expresses his pride in his father with his personal drummer attitude.
the way Shane is looking at Dave during his solo, and the way Dave looked at him the whole time (I know some of it was for timing) but there was a lot being said/expressed with those looks. Equal parts heartbreaking and beautiful. The layers here are DEEP. thanks for the reaction.
perfectly said.
@@sethemmit1627 Yep. They both said immense volumes to each other without saying a word.
Yea, Shane looking a little uncertain and Dave saying “He’d be proud, I got your back”.
First he lost Kurt, then Taylor, and then his Mother...Dave is no stranger to pain like most of us. In fact he recorded the first Foo Fighters album by himself, in the same studio Nirvana recorded their last time. Music never dies
🙏🙏💯🖤🖤
Dave's moms sudden death last month was so sad.....right before this tribute....
I had no idea his mom had died until I read your comment!! Omg, she was his best friend, then Taylor. Crushing for Dave, I can't even imagine how he's even functioning.

Shane was channeling all his grief on those drums, he was so good. Dave said aw shit they were so proud💙

I won't lie, I've watched this so many times and cried every time 😩
The way Dave was looking at him... Man, the eye contact between those two just killed me. Such a beautiful moment. 🥺❤👏🏼
Damn!! I cried..Taylor..aka Dad, would be so proud. .and their faces when he did that drum solo at the end..legendary ❤️❤️

Thanks for taking our request !! Man, this whole show had me emotional, but this.....💙💔
Taylor's spirit lives on through Shane. What an impressive kid. I can't imagine the pressure he was under in front of 90,000 fans of his father.

You have to realize that that band was like a family. They all watched all their kids grow up so this was special for all of them.
Was an emotional moment of varying feelings for everyone

Looks like he kissed the drum at @5:14 😭😢
I'm sure that his father was smiling down on him from heaven!! R.I.P Taylor
Just playing the drums to my hero is tear jerking. You know his dad was HIS HERO. Man this tears me up. RIP

AWESOMENESS!! I LOVE THE FOO FIGHTERS! TAYLOR’S SON IS AMAZING!!
Yep! Straight Credit. He smashed it.
great reaction, man. just the energy. the passion. the loss. hard to put it into words.
This is the best song by Foo Fighters imo... Featured on the "Friday Night Lights" Soundtrack... It's EPIC and Shane sounds GREAT!!!😍
WOW SO DOES THE CROWD when they come in for "THERE GOES MY HERO..." EPIC!!!! 😍😍😍🔥🔥🔥
I love your wall of albums! There’s a timeless feeling to vinyl that we probably won’t experience again. The collection is awesome.
The whole concert was great. This was the perfect ending.

Annnnnnd now we've all seen a 16 year old kid figure out how to speak to his deceased dad via drums. This was so f'in good. RIP Taylor.
the future of drumming is so bright. last time i cried to something like this was the day chester died

I'm really glad you did this, I teared up a little myself watching this performance.
Before I saw this I knew no one could replace Taylor and make it feel the same but this feels right. Even if for this one time.

Top 5 Rock bands of all time!!! Rest in power Taylor ♥️⚡️
Shane played those drums so hard his Daddy heard him up in Heaven.

I cried!
I cried like a bitch!!!
this video is very beautiful but its so sad this poor boy😔😔😔😞💔send you many greetings from Switzerland
The kid is beating the hell out of those drums. amazing..
7:10 mark, watch him kiss his dad’s drum set before he starts the solo
great reaction man!
Thank you!
Bro, watch the Foo Fighters Kiss Guy. They pulled this random guy out the audience to play a song with them on the guitar and he goes off. It’s sweet
Baby played like he wanted to make sure his dad heard him
Loved this😭😭😭
When the guy who did the break beat to "Smells Like Teen Spirit" says nobody else has ever hit the drums this hard... well, fuck.
hip hop fan but this breaks me .. Taylor would be so proud of his little man 🙏
Great reaction as always man. I also got choked up a little.
That was awesome 👏

its his dads touring drum set to so that adds another layer of emotion
Taylor was there playing through Shane! Keeping him strong and tight! 🤍
Shane and the Foo Fighters were playing in front of nearly 90,000 People....
At 16 years old...
Fucking amazing
I did cry.
Thanks for doing this one! 💔
Yep, and that's not an easy song to drum
waterfall tears all day
You can't tell me Taylor wasn't playing through his son that night. This is one of those rare music moments.
