Of all the plant-based kinds of milk-like drinks, other than rice, the oat seems to be the most cost-effective. I've made many kinds of nut milk and I've used several different methods (by hand and/or using a machine) but making oat milk has to be the easiest ever! Thanks! I'll try it.
I make this oat milk at times .. I do like it but for some reason the home made never is as good as the bought one unfortunately 😕. The home made one is always a bit ‘silty ‘and the stuff sinks to the bottom so you always have to shake or stir it very well . It’s also very slimy to squeeze through the nut milk bag ... but after saying all that I still do like to make my own at times so thanks for the good vid 🤗👍
Wow this seem like a really affordable recipe, probably cheaper than regular milk :) Great background music btw! I also love how you didn't use a cheesecloth because I don't have one. I was just wondering what does oat milk taste like? Does it taste like normal oats but in a liquid form?
Hi, thank you for your comments :) Yes it is much cheaper to make you own, thank you! Yes not everyone has all the equipment so I feel its kind to show how to make things in a basic way that can help people :) yes it does, oat milk is one of my favourite vegan milks, I like the taste and the texture it creates, the ratios would make the taste stronger :) Hope thats helpful :)
Awesome that's great!! I'll definitely have to give this a try :) Also, just one more question: some people soak their oats for only couple hours or overnight and others don't soak their oats at all and just directly blend it. Do you know why's that and does it make a difference?
Hiya, thank you for your question. In this video and they way I make my oat milk I don't soak the oats first. I can see that that would make them expand and release gluten which is gloopy. Depending on your ratios to water and oats would change the thickness of the milk. Any heat around the oats would make them more gloopy. Just like they do that when you make porridge. So keeping them dry (soak free) and mixing with cool filtered water them keeping the milk in the fridge I found this milk for me was fine :) hope that helps. If you have anymore questions feel free to message me :)
Torgeir Molaug it is not gluten. It is more like a natural mucilage which is used in those liquid bottles of Amber school glue if you ever had that growing up. Will you pressed rubber tip on the paper.
Tímea Tarjányi that's odd. I've never seen or known anybody who makes oatmeal good including myself soak the oats! There is no necessary reason to soak the oats so I just don't get why they did it. 😲
So your previous oats releasing gluten assertion is now corrected to mucilage, which is a polar glycoprotein and an exopolysaccharide. In plants it plays a role in the storage of water and food, seed germination, and thickening membranes. Flax seeds especially are rich sources of mucilage. (Sorry for meddling.)
Just remember that by removing the fiber you are removing what it is about oats that helps prevent heart disease and lower cholesterol. Just be aware of that and still consume oats in a more whole form. I had a sieve smaller than that it was actually meant for tea when I was first married. I made approximately 10 liters of stock and I stood in my kitchen for that son of a bitch and strained my stock through that little tea strainer one spoon at a time! Never again for anybody! LOL. I now live alone with my cat George and he doesn't care if I make homemade stock or not! Haha. :-) :-)
Could have just used a clean piece of cloth. I do this all the time with whatever I'm straining. I just pour everything in the cloth, over a large bowl, tye the corners of the cloth together, give it a few twists to get out the air, put a half knot in the twisted part, slide a wooden spoon threw the knot, then hang the spoon horizontally between two kitchen cupboard knobs, with the ball of stuff in the cloth, hanging over and dripping into the bowl. Just leave it till its done. Good way to remove way from cottage cheese to use in lasagna or spaghetti bake, to reduce the liquid added. I like using those flour sacks, they seem to work the best.
Way cheaper then milk. Sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do. You can make 6+gallons of oat milk for the same cost of 1gallon of cheap wallmart milk. That's a heck of a money and resource stretcher.
Like how you don't soak and rinse your oats taking away much of the nutritional value and throwing it down the drain.
Lovely..

Thanks tried this with my homeschooled kiddos, fun home economics project.

thanks for this, we have tried out some vegan recipes lately and like it!
Hiya, I'm very glad it was helpful for you :)
Awesome. Trying this tomorrow, thanks for sharing your magic!
Nicely done. Thank you.
YUMMY 😋 my favorite... hugs 🤗
I want to try this too but when I once tried to make oat milk and I soaked the oat, it turned out very slimy. Will that happen with this method?

How can oat release gluten when it is not supposed to contain gluten?

Is there carnivore oat milk?

like! thanks!))) 27/11 2019!!!)
No need to soak oats? Great then.
This creates starchy water. It has nothing in common with milk, except for the color.
