The customization mechanics and table-top aestehetic would go well in a 40K theme game. Unpopular opinion here but the lack of animation only enhances that tabletop feel.
It took me under 5 hours of playing this game without buying anything with real money to get every single unit available. People need to stop with the micro transaction flaw.
Fun fact: The guys who made the Stormlight board game are making a Stormlight RPG. One of their stretch goals (which was reached) was to have a miniatures line for Stormlight (which was met). They're even offering a bridge 4 display thing, where you can have all your miniatures carrying bridge 4.
To be fair, right now the Micro-transactions are non-functional and everything is subject to change and the devs have stated that the economy model won't require you to invest to progress.
It just feels like the tabletop minature aesthetic is done to cheap out on animation costs. The application of the minature art style seems inconsisent (why are some things fully animated but other parts of the game remain toy-like?). Isn't the whole point of many strategy/RPG games is that they bring their respective tabletop inspirations to life as if you're looking directly into those worlds?
Its animated enough and well done that it is interesting and cool but why not just fully animate the avatars? To me that woulf make this game an instant buy even if it was just attacks fully animated with stiff like movement.
He also wrote a detailed style guide that informs the world the game takes place in. There was an AMA with the dev team recently you can check out, but here's a snippet of what I'm talking about: "Each culture has a defined VFX style guide with its own characteristics drawn from the world bible Brandon has made. He is sometimes very specific, sometimes very open ended so it can be anything starting with a colour he has described that's important to a culture, a shape, technology etc."

I’m surprised that’s not already a thing for a game like war hammer.
@@mattbryant8320 Because this will influence model selling in the real world. Just like Gundam, making animation is to boost its model sales.
They have completely done a Uturn on the microtransactions the whole economy is gone. You can use all units if you buy the base game now :)
Thank you for this addition
The mini painting aspect on this looks super cool. Otherwise I'm not sure I'm too interested. Still surprised GW hasnt done something like this yet~
They will now
They did in Dawn of War 2 have something and it baffled me that they never added the feature to other games especially TW: Warhammer
@@mattsmokes2505 -if- this succeeds in MTX... sure they will lol
An already niche genre so slap some crappy microtransactions on it. Genius minds at work.
Honestly if they had made a Necromunda or Mordheim like this, it would be insanely hot. Minus the multi-tiered model system or loot boxes altogether.
tier list is only for visuals ,and lootbox added as for fun because you will own all units in just like 1hour of playing anyway

I'd love a Stormlight Archive game.
or a Mistborn game!

Currently you can get all the units for free just by doing the starting missions and playing a couple matches.
Great idea adding microtransactions, was excited for this, not anymore.
If they did this for something like Marvel Crisis Protocol or Star Wars legion I’d be all over it
FYI to all, the next patch is drastically changing the way crews are deployed randomly...
This would be cool in VR
"Warhammer and infinity have not appeared"
Grey Knight game weeps in loyalty
more like weeps in bugs lol
It's not my typical game type but I'm having a great time with it. It's fun!
How are you playing it sorry to ask
If brandon sanderson is involved it's a 10 game for me
This is a dead game already. Had fewer than 300 players over the last week. Down from the 700 it had last week.
Love the Infinity shoutout! Game doesn't get enough love although it's almost certainly the best tabletop ruleset out there.
Apparently they got rid of the monetization with the microtransactions. You get everything unlocked when you buy the game.
Looks awesome especially the painting. Hope they improve the micro-transaction 5 tier rarity crap
they removed the in-game store and lootboxes
anything Brandon Sanderson i'm interested in
Can’t wait for Ben and Tom to play this
To be fair, right now the Micro-transactions are non-functional and everything is subject to change and the devs have stated that the economy model won't require you to invest to progress.
You also don't need lootboxes to gain new characters, as you can simply buy them.
Trying to digitally recreate that never ending spend that miniature war gamers know all too well
Game he completely changed from release, everything is unlocked from first game, games are more varied
Wait until he learns how much REAL miniatures games cost.
Was interested in this. Now I'm not even gonna bother. Buy to play yet it has this microtransactions of a f2p game..
IGN can’t count past 7
I'm starting to think 7 means average or mediocre. Which most games are

Loot box approach is bad. Just have an in game store at a reasonable price. Still would make a ton from collectors without the gambling.
Dude is Traplore Ross the one doing the review?

DEMEO VR... this one could have VR implemented.
GW needs a killteam game like this
7/10
FML... does every single game have micotransactions now?!? The greed is unreal.
Unknown worlds, why did you guys have to take the micro transaction route
They revised the business model you unlock all characters just within the first hour of playing
loot box / gotcha -- ima outtahere
Yea. Too bad that this info wasnt at the beginning. Could have saved some of my time.
can you make your own models?

Is it 7?
You know it 👍
@N yes

Ninja theory video games are cool
Is it available on steam?
Absolutely yes
Give us Stormlight 5 already
Yes IGN quit reviewing games and get to writing stormlight 5 already!
No story line? What is Brandon even doing then?
there's an audio drama in-game or in any podcasts plus a story description for every unit

This was a horrible miscalculation.
sounds p2w
Why do IGN reviews exist? They're the same as a video describing a new game at launch, then they give them an average score.
Someone needs to do reviews of IGN reviews
No thanks

Statues that have no animation ? + micro transactions?
Yea no thank you , I’d rather do anything else.
Boring game.

Not if you like to be creative with painting minitures and playing with them
Only two words, without any context or reasoning why it’s boring. Top teir comment
