    For anyone doing a DIY- don’t pull the cigarette lighter connector out like that. There’s a little tab underneath the connector that you press and then you can just pull it with a firm tug by hand.

    • @tonysgonzalez9390
      @tonysgonzalez9390 Місяць тому

      Sometimes they are stuck and u have to pry it you’ll be fine doing it that way as long as as battery is disconnected no worries.

    • @Clintaso
      @Clintaso Місяць тому

      @@tonysgonzalez9390 This comment wasn’t about the electrical component, it was about preserving that tab on the plastic that keeps it locked in place (but yeah battery should definitely be disconnected regardless).
      If you do have to pry any electrical connector you should press on the tab or whatever’s needed for it to be in the “unlocked” position so you don’t break the locking mechanism when you pry it. They can be forgiving if you do it like the guy in the video, but at the end of the day they are plastic.

    FYI, only the 2003-5 models require removal of the center console to install the stereo. 2000-02 do not.

      I was wondering about this.. It seems so ridiculous that you would have to remove all those panels just to get to the radio. I have a 2001 honda civic dx 5 speed manual. Ive replaced stereos in my 05 G35, my 05 Subaru WRX TR, and my 03 Jeep Liberty.... None of those vehicles required so much panel removing. My civic already has an after market old CD player which does work so it has the single din kit but I cannot find a video that shows how to just swap the head unit.

    • @IMP3TIGO
      @IMP3TIGO 5 років тому +3

      Eric Peacock I have a 2002 EX 5MT and your 2001 should be the same as mine, which is one of the easiest head units to access as you just pull out the trim surrounding the head unit after you remove those two bolts on the underside. No trim panels to remove except that small panel that covers those two bolts. It is bizarre that Honda decided to make it harder to access the head unit for the 04-05 mid cycle refresh for no other reason.

      @@No_Transitory I installed my double din car stereo in my 2001 honda civic last week. I didn't have to remove the center console. The piece of panel under the stereo in this Civic is part of the center console. On my civic it is separate from the center console.

      Yea, same here, much appreciated.
      But for real, although not extremely complex or anything, it seems like this particular make of car is unnecessarily involved to swap a radio.
      Which is unfortunate, because In 2019, we need an aux cable! And obviously that wasn’t a standard feature in cars in 2001-2005. But hey, that’s what I get for buying an older car, I just had to have a manual to beat up while I learned. lol.
      Thanks again. Good man, I’ll come back to you for my car needs in the future, with any luck you’ll be my guide to a bunch of adjustments and work yet to come.

    For those with the manual transmission 7th gen civics, I followed this video exactly EXCEPT i skipped the removal of the shifter panel and started at 1:24 instead. Maybe you can remove the plastic trim panel for the manual transmission, but I felt that if I kept forcing it I would have ended up breaking something.
    Doing this allows you to gain access to every other step, you just kinda have to swivel the panel around the manual shifter for the initial steps.

    @2CarPros I recently acquired a 2003 Civic. The aftermarket radio that was installed resets back to the initial set up after the car has been off for more than an hour. Also, Fuse 9 in the under-hood fuse box blows the moment a new 10 Amp fuse is inserted.
