I’ve been a major market program director and currently program two nationally syndicated radio shows, and I have to say, this advice is remarkably on point. Most indie managers do not have an understanding about this process whatsoever. You’re giving people excellent advice! A suggestion to artists and managers when you want to know if you have a potential radio hit, make a spotify or apple music playlist of the top 10-15 songs on the Hot 100 and add your song to it. Hit shuffle and listen to the playlist a lot. In different settings (car, home, airpods at the gym.) Hearing your song in this context, especially when it comes up randomly will give you a real good idea of whether it fits in and holds up next to these proven hits. I would add,if you’re trying to get that first spin a good idea is to target a few influential stations in your format and find out what new music features they run. A lot of stations do a “make it or break it” or new music feature. Find out the name of the feature and email the host directly and ask them to consider playing the song. Email the Music Director separately and ask them, as well. If the DJ loves the song, you now have an advocate in the building. If the song gets a positive reaction from listeners, you can use that to contact the MD and Program Director and pitch the song again.
sorry to be so offtopic but does anybody know a trick to log back into an Instagram account?? I was dumb forgot my password. I would love any help you can offer me.
Thank you so much for you information I accidentally became a manager. Your video has opened my eyes still a lot to learn. Thanks a million again. Warm regards. Thoko De La Hunt From South Africa
My nearly finished album is mostly "Synthwave/Ambient' music but I wrote a synth EDM track that has gotten great response from friends/family etc. I believe it's a hit but can't get my foot in anywhere including some of those pay to play stations and my old college radio!
Definitely go and collect all the contact information of your target radio stations as far in advance as possible. When you actually send the song to them, make sure you're sending it out to everyone at the same time. As for the day that you choose to send it, it doesn't really matter that part is totally up to you. But if it's a newer artist you usually want to do it after you've released it and gained a bit of traction on streaming or iTunes first. Can be good ammo to use for your pitch to radio.

I keep getting told my song sounds like it should be on the radio, I personally think so too (what artist doesn’t haha) Could you have a listen to it and let me know what you think? 🙏🏾 This is such great advice though! Thank you 💖
Would you say this information is still relevant now in terms of making sure a song is in a radio hit format, where nowadays what’s played on the radio is based on what is trending or influenced on what is popular on social media?
Nice! I started out as a record promoter while in college. I would go to the stations and just build relationships and record labels would reach out to me to promote their artists. Now I’m with @GorgeousMO_ (IG) @GorgeousMO_ATL (Twitter) but radio has changed. New PDs, MDs, Ownership, DJs, gate keepers, etc... especially after covid you can’t just pick up and call stations or go by to hang out or say hello. Thanks for the tips. You’re gorgeous by the way........Gorgeous MO 😁
I have known a radio station announcer since I was a kid, and I never thought about asking him about this. Thank you for the tips.

I was going to be critical of this video, but it's actually not that bad. It's information you probably could have guessed, but needed to hear again.

Also how far before releasing the song should you start doing this process or should you do it once the single is actually released?
