- MAKE YOUR OWN VINYL RECORD! | Building the EZ Record Maker by Yuri Suzuki | Vinyl Recorder
I came across this little device from browsing through how to cut / press vinyls. I was very excited to find out that I can do it at home without spending thousands of dollars of pressing or lathe equipment. But of course, because of it's price and build, you can't expect a record label-worthy result.
The EZ Record Maker (or Toy Record Maker as it is known in Japan), records in MONO only and Lo-Fi. Which means, it will sound like your great-grandma's old phonograph... or maybe worse. Your music should be mastered for vinyl of course, because digitally mastered music nowadays have a wide range of frequencies that may damage the cutting through of the vinyl which may cause it to skip, or run, or just spin on the same track. It records on 33 or 45, which you can record a 4-minute content or lesser, respectively. Though it produces lo-fi quality, you can cut not only through vinyl discs, but also on regular CDs or DVDs (of course it's not re-writable). It has a 3.5mm plug which means you can record anything that comes with a regular earphones plug. Your mp3s, or your own voice, or even a live performance. Did I forget to say that it can be a great gift for vinyl enthusiasts too?
Excuse my video, but please enjoy. Hope this will help you decide whether to buy it or not. Or if you already have done so, help you out to build it. Because the manual is in full Japanese.

Nice vid. I plan on building mine this weekend, super excited!!
Have fun!
Thank you for a thorough demo and silent tutorial for EZ Record Maker. No frills, crappy UA-cam formulaic humor and quick cuts, just pure assembly and good backing track. I fully appreciate this style. Thanks. Too many ads, but we all have to make money, so I get it. Party on.
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Having more than a working knowledge of how recordings are mastered, I am surprised the finished recording is this clear. Remember this builder's kit is marketed as a "mono, lo-fi toy" so the level of expectation has been given.
I built mine last night and it’s doing pretty good. I messing with the volume and with the pressure of the cutting when I first put it together I realize that the little sprocket wheel wasn’t going up and moving the head back-and-forth so I had to change that.
Good thing you managed to get a solution for that! Hope it help others just building theirs
I just got one, works great. cut a quality record the first try❤
You definitely do need to lubricate the vinyl and attach a coin to the cutting head though
The video sound is pretty good, beyond my imagination
If only they made a hifi version. This can be cool for making scratch samples.
I have hifi machine and can make you a scratch record :)
Where could I buy for Extra/Replacement cutting needles? I only know where I could buy more blank Vinyl Disc but not the Needles.
Thank you for that.
My pleasure!
Thank you for the nice video! Do you think this can cut 3-inch blank vinyl too :)?
Yup, it should!
Hello! Nice video and work! Can I ask you - is the main flywheel in this mashine from metal or from plastic? A tone of sound has a bit fluctuations.
it is plastic
@@AutumnRainRecordsthanks! The mass of the flywheel may have been increased. It will reduce fluctuation of speed. It may be a big washer
Oh yeah I seen this machine
I like it still even due to the sound quality. I'm looking to buy a better recorder though
To cut a record you have to make sure to use the RIAA equalization: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RIAA_equalization
Thanks for this.
Yep.
Having the understanding on all levels makes it a better experience🤔😎
Thanks for the link to the RIAA as well😉🙏
@@maestroaxeman Usually is +20db for high frequecies and -20db for low frequecies and the equalisation line should be an almost straight line from high to low frequecies.
Bro going so fast🤣
🤣😂😅
Great video.
Thanks for the visit

no one :
the video : * imp noise *
Would be cool to see if they had one for 12”
What is the maximum length that can be recorded on one side. Please reply..
About 5 mins
Have you tried to cut on blank flexi discs or old computer floppy discs?
No I haven't, but old/blank CDs worked fine though.
check out our video of our 5"inch vinyl record made from the Gakken at ua-cam.com/video/CAoPeR3XI88/v-deo.html
We also built a manual for better sound quality when making your records with the Gakken
Great ! would like buy one !! how I can ?
Love this very beautiful and I suspect that if you are conversant with Japanese and can read Kanji then assembly should represent no problems.
Yes, but also, I heard they have included an English Translation with the newer sales now. Not sure though
Does it sound good in a good turntable?
Unfortunately, no
They could rebrand this as a Crosley thats about how records sound on their players. It should be 4th of the price just to play around with or gift for vinyl collectors.
But it's not a toy, it says it is maybe but for argument sakes (even my own kids maybe run to Google first if online instead of think first) today's toys or today's kids won't be able to fit this toy up and make it useful so it's not a toy toy lol. ..
Also I'm sure this fake toy can be useful especially to someone who use to work within the pressing facilities, they would by now know how to melt their own vinyl pellets at home etc and won't use the discs provided and also they would use a different cutter head as they know more what it takes to make super grooves (pressure and EQ etc). .
That is not how a crosley sounds. Stop being a snob.
@@prodthetagrapper4468 It's not about being a snob if they're correct....
@@cjsvinyl the Crosley T-400 is a good player
@@absolutebanjo4533 There's always hater and Fan boys. If it plays well and you dig it then that's a win!
would be possible to adapt the platform for records os 12?
If they will change the hardwares, I think it's possible
@@AutumnRainRecords tky so much for this info
Can anyone give advice on making a better sounding record? I've made 5 discs so far and they all sound terrible. Also, they barely play on a "real" record player... Even with anti skate turn on most of my record players can't play the last 30 seconds of my recordings.
Also, lots of unintentional loops... Overall, it was fun to create but the recordings sound like static. Anyway, if anyone has advice on getting decent sound on one of these recordings, please lmk
The main source should be mastered for Vinyl, certain frequencies may not cut properly if it's not mastered for vinyl. But besides that, the EZ Record Maker is basically a toy and only cut mono sound, so it won't really sound pleasing to the ears. Just enough to hear it in my opinion.
Can anyone suggest me a vinyl recoding machines to start my own business
Is the result of the recording sound mono or stereo?
It's mono, lofi.
@@AutumnRainRecords
ok thanks for your information
It looks like the Gakken toy record maker.
it is!
is there any new vinyl player for sale online? How much
Maybe worth is about under £1000, I think... I do not idea, what worth is you like this! 😮
what was the purpose of pressing the white button by the cutting arm over and over?
Hi, that button is attached to the gear that moves the cutting arm forward. Pressing it will deactivate it so you can freely move it to bring it back to starting point. Pressing it again will activate it again. :)
@@AutumnRainRecords Oh yeah I figured that part out on my own device, I was just curious if there was another reason becuz it appeared as if the person was pressing it repeatedly to test something. Rn I'm trying to figure out why my cuts aren't creating a complete song, keep having a section here or there end up as a loop rather than the full song. Thought maybe all that button pushing had something to do with stabilizing the cutting arm. Thanks for the reply either way.
Whats the maximum song length you can record?
@@ForgottenSonsProbably 5 mins
I have that also
If you have Translate on your iPad like I do, you can scan the manual and it will convert it to English for you.
ooooh, I'll try that! Thanks! :)
Autumn Rain Records yw
I think an item like this even in English, someone who isn't into vinyl or know some basics wouldn't be able to fit it together not to mention the hardest part of all getting it to cut the grooves properly.
There's many at vinyl pressing plants who say regardless of all the years they've been doing it, there's always a new challenge as not all vinyl/orders are the same..
Let me just add that it's a simple process that can go wrong every single time the stamper presses a vinyl. Remember this Toy(not a toy) is cutting the master..
We cut a good master on this and cut down cost dramatically.
Cutting is the first ever stage in the vinyl ceeation process after making music and EQ. This cutting stage needs to be very nice, if it is sub standard then the stamper will be likewise etc as useful as a stamp already licked.. 😂
@The CLD A100 Channel thank you for that.
Can this make normal sized lps
I'm afraid not. It's too small.
Where can I purchase one?
www.ezrecordmaker.com :)
У нас студии звукозаписи такие-же записывали, как сувенирные
how much money does this cost?
I got mine on eBay 80 bucks
whao
How do i buy this???
You can search google for Gakken EZ Record Maker. It's out of stock in some stores but you can find some in ebay
Se podrá grabar un disco de vinilo grande
I don't think so, it's only for small discs
wow pwede pala yan meron ba nyan d2 sa Pinas? san kaya makakabili?
Sorry, no idea. Mine came from Japan through a local distributor in Los Angeles :)
Now set this pick up to a mixer..
Lo-fi goodness!
Can you get extra records, I need a lot of records
If you order from their site, I think you can get extra records. But what we found out is, you can cut music using old CDs.
@@AutumnRainRecords groovy yeah!
@@AutumnRainRecords old CDs with recordings on them? Manufacturered Cds or CD-Rs?
Magkano kaya ito sa Pilipinas? sa Ebay or Amazon nyo po ba ito nabili?
Local seller in Los Angeles po, pero imported from Japan
Oh Dear what could possibly go wrong with assembling that piece of fidgety plastic crap I will wait until a ready assembled decent one comes along. Thanks for the excellent if not somewhat tedious video 😄
Thanks for dropping by! 🙏🏼
Nive
Should be perfect to make lofi beats
this is a toy for a child or teenager, right?
How it’s made bootleg records
Or if you have a TI-99/4A computer or a Commodore 64 like I used to do, you can create records with programs on it like those Christian group that did that.
3:50 sorry my ocd friends ROTFL. . It's an eyesore but it's something many of us should be able to deal with as we've all at some point stuck something to something else which involved one chance to get it right and we git it horribly wrong or not perfectly positioned, I say if doesn't hurt performance then it's not really wrong just the above eyesore for the ocd crew..
yeah, I just said after laying it down, oh Shoot, but it has adhesive and I have no replacement so I just said, ahh what the heck...lol Bothers me most when it starts to turn...hahaha
@@AutumnRainRecords May this be the only thing that ever bothers us, our lives are sweet.. Rotfl
Wait I can make the singles I've been wanting but can't ever find????
Yes, but it's lo-fi though.
@@AutumnRainRecords what LO-FI means
@@urbanfarmingpilipinas342 low fidelity.
This this is almost nearly worthless as far as making your music sound good on a record. I think I found a use for it though by recording the recording for uses in lo fi music. Like basically cut my own loops by recording the recording.
Basically the sound quality of this machine will be like heavily degraded record, or something from the 20s. It will crack, pop, hiss, whatever old sounds you could associate with super old records from a period where there was no hifi
can you scratch on this thing?
Next time you should wearing protect gloves before starting with these kits to create some turntable made. Very nice this made its record of the turntable isn't. 😎👍
what
If you want it to sound alot cleaner, take the bass out of it
almost impossible to get though. i emailed back and forth with these guys for over a year, and they still hem and haw about selling in usa.
Is it hard to get now? Gave away this unit in the video as a gift
The plural for vinyl is vinyl
‘Which sounds like the early records back in the days’ ha, no even 1890s wax cylinders sound better.
And about the skipping with wider frequencies, that’s what happens when you play good records on bad turntables
to much a head ack i other buy a unit that all ready to gather and record away lol
This is a dream, that would quickly turn into a nightmare if the kids woke up whilst having an attempt at building this up..
#djlnr
Absolutely superfluous, especially in times where we should economize plastic material ....this sound quality is the worst I've ever experienced !!
Thats an absurd to vinyl lovers
Making decent recordings you have to do some tricks before you waste your all your vinyls.
can do it on old cds too!
Ah Ah That Wouldn't Impress Me To Order
One Of Those Build It You'r Self Record Recorders.
It's more of a toy than a music gadget. Reminds me of Lego Technic.
The only thing that's missing with this machine is the beauty sonic sound quality if they can do that it would be phenomenal
I was excited...but then MONO. 😖
Ну и говно. Зачем он вообще нужен?
Much wow and flutter and sounds more horrible, than a 100 years old record.
not funny
That sounds like absolute ass....imagine going through all that, and this is the end result..
I would give this to another audiophile as a white elephant gift, and everyone in the room would know that it was all a joke. You can't expect any part of this to actually be serious unless you own a suitcase _(toy box)_ record player. The "record maker" was actually not the most cringing thing in this video, but rather the sped up voice. We can't understand what you're saying, there's no need to keep that audio in.
Looks very cheaply made like a toy
It is indeed a toy, for enthusiasts :)
Qualidade muito ruim...
Sound pretty bad
Huh, what wrong with it, hm?? Why is sound bad?
That’s what you would expect from vinyl records. lol.
