The golden goose shoes are honestly the ones that make me the most uncomfortable. Plenty of people have no choice but to wear their shoes to death and tape them together just to have something on their feet. Rather than making a mockery of money, it feels like they are making a mockery of people - when you need to wear it, it's shabby, but if we sell it at ridiculous prices, it's fashion.

By ultra rich, i think you mean new money. Old money people wouldn't flash like that. I remember watching a short documentary here on youtube. This old (quite) wealthy German man was living not in a mansion or even a house, but an apartment. like most of us. His place looked like that of a hoarder grampa. His clothes looked a bit like those of a poor lonely grampa as well. His attitude was distinct though: you could tell he read a lot and that he knew stuff most ordinary folks wouldn't know.

People with money who are avid golfers often go to the Titleist Corporate office in Carlsbad CA for custom golf club fitting, and serious golf bags and other gear. I used to know a golf pro who worked there, and then they can play a few holes to test it out. Celine Dion bought her gear there back in the day, as did Alice Cooper and any number of celebs and PGA golf pros. I would choke if I saw Tiger Woods caddy parading this LV bag around. And don't get me started on that skipping rope. 530 quid? Crazy!!! Most of this stuff is weird, and does make a mockery of money and people's common sense. (Jan Griffiths).

  • @nattiex3735
    @nattiex3735 15 днів тому +1

This stuff, like the skipping rope and the chair bag, are essentially decor pieces being misrepresented as practical items. That skipping rope is going to be possibly used once just for fun, the owner will take a bunch of photos for social media, and then they'll hang it on a hook in their home gym as a fun piece of room decor. It will stay there for years, until they get bored and want to revamp the space, then they'll sell it. The same with the chair bag, but that will be on display in their handbag closet.😂

I have an explanation for your question:
So the brands you've mentioned (Louis Vuitton and Balenciaga, among various others), have heavy ties to the streetwear community. I believe it was around the 2000s when rap music had a massive impact on fashion, thanks to music videos and designers like Raf Simons in his heyday. Demna is currently the creative director of Balenciaga, and surprisingly, he's extremely popular amongst the streetwear enthusiasts -- hence why Balenciaga went from couture to very odd everyday items as clothes 😅
Personally, like you, it isn't for me and I will never wear anything that looks like a 10 minute DIY, *but* I can see why brands like Louis Vuitton are tapping into that demographic. As long as they put a logo on any novelty item, it *will* sell and be considered a collector's item.
In regards to brands like Moschino, however, their founder (Franco Moschino) was known to parody brands like Chanel. Those parody items is in theme with the aesthetic.
They also manufacture these pieces in low quantities. They just appear abundant because they stand out in social media

This can be art, but only when it is not mass produced. I think what is so ridiculous is the items designed to look like trash. That is such a rude commentary to make. People who are ultra-wealthy do not have to worry about appearance so this could be seen as an insult to those who only have only limited options. It's condescending.

I saw a few videos a while ago of people reviewing art supplies from big luxury brands and not finding them anything other than basic quality A fancy case was basically what you were buying. It's such a weird product because anyone into art would be spending their money on nice quality products from brands that already exist and someone who wouldn't care about the art supplies would seem unlikely to want to buy them.

I've had many years ago a discussion on this with my boss at that time. He said something that I wholeheartedly agree with. People buy these outrageous things, because they can. In some circles, it's just simple as that. It's not about functionality or even quality. They could get a Luigi skipping rope, so they did that's it. And my two cents, sometimes it's people who are trying to show desperately that they are well off because they are not. Some of the most broke people I knew had the most outrageously expensive stuff. Trying to belong to the cool people's club that does not really exist.

These brands purposely make a very limited amount of these “absurd” items so they sell out quickly & it creates discourse. It all comes down to marketing. These companies are very good at making money

It seems some designers have gone from offering designs that imitate working laborers (the paint splotched jeans come to mind) to imitating the homeless with garbage bag dresses, paper clip money clips, and the empty, wrinkled chip bag wallets. Making style out of the homeless?

On the golf bag: I don’t think that’s a bag normal golfers would use.
I can only talk for me but I want lots of easy accessible storage, lightweight and easy to clean, grass and dirt gets everywhere, it’s going to get wet quite regularly and I have to carry it around.
I do like the green though.

Same goes with the ‘Homeless kind pf style… I’ve seen some people who managed to pull that look very stylish where in some cases some looked way worse than a homeless person.. It just doesn’t suit them…

Thank you for saying what we're all thinking about this crazy stuff. That Balenciaga wallet really is trashy. Anyone who supports Balenciaga after that creepy ad campaign should have their head examined (as my mom used to say) anyway.

Sophie, there are people with the kind of money you cannot comprehend. 10 or 20K is literally nothing to them. They don't understand it's value so spending 30K to them is like spending $5 to us. These are the type of people that buy these things. They are completely disconnected from reality, and it's sad, but it's life.
