The golden goose shoes are honestly the ones that make me the most uncomfortable. Plenty of people have no choice but to wear their shoes to death and tape them together just to have something on their feet. Rather than making a mockery of money, it feels like they are making a mockery of people - when you need to wear it, it's shabby, but if we sell it at ridiculous prices, it's fashion.

This old (quite) wealthy German man was living not in a mansion or even a house, but an apartment. like most of us. His place looked like that of a hoarder grampa. His clothes looked a bit like those of a poor lonely grampa as well. His attitude was distinct though: you could tell he read a lot and that he knew stuff most ordinary folks wouldn't know.

Well, I used to work for a golf company that built/managed golf courses all over the world and I learned quite a bit about the industry. You have to remember that quality golf clubs can cost tens of thousands of dollars. Golf courses at some Of the most expensive resorts in the world and some Of the most beautiful and scenic locations. So, yeah I can see many people wanting/buying the bag.
People with money who are avid golfers often go to the Titleist Corporate office in Carlsbad CA for custom golf club fitting, and serious golf bags and other gear. I used to know a golf pro who worked there, and then they can play a few holes to test it out. Celine Dion bought her gear there back in the day, as did Alice Cooper and any number of celebs and PGA golf pros. I would choke if I saw Tiger Woods caddy parading this LV bag around. My son in law and daughter are members of an exclusive Golf Club in CA. I could say that the members are pretty wealthy and can afford to pay for an expensive bag! Nobody would be seen in an LV golf bag! I showed the bag to my 14 year old grandson who is a very good golfer and asked him if he likes it and he said he rather carry his clubs in a trash bag than in an LV bag! Beyond ridiculous! These designs, reminded me of the experiment which involves with setting up a fake luxury store then inviting many influencers to visit the fake store. Many of them are willing to spend a fortune on the fake luxury items.
This can be art, but only when it is not mass produced. I think what is so ridiculous is the items designed to look like trash. That is such a rude commentary to make. People who are ultra-wealthy do not have to worry about appearance so this could be seen as an insult to those who only have only limited options. It's condescending.
I saw a few videos a while ago of people reviewing art supplies from big luxury brands and not finding them anything other than basic quality A fancy case was basically what you were buying. It's such a weird product because anyone into art would be spending their money on nice quality products from brands that already exist and someone who wouldn't care about the art supplies would seem unlikely to want to buy them.
I've had many years ago a discussion on this with my boss at that time. He said something that I wholeheartedly agree with. People buy these outrageous things, because they can. In some circles, it's just simple as that. It's not about functionality or even quality. They could get a Luigi skipping rope, so they did that's it. And my two cents, sometimes it's people who are trying to show desperately that they are well off because they are not. Some of the most broke people I knew had the most outrageously expensive stuff. Trying to belong to the cool people's club that does not really exist.
These brands purposely make a very limited amount of these “absurd” items so they sell out quickly & it creates discourse. It all comes down to marketing. These companies are very good at making money

On the golf bag: I don’t think that’s a bag normal golfers would use. I can only talk for me but I want lots of easy accessible storage, lightweight and easy to clean, grass and dirt gets everywhere, it’s going to get wet quite regularly and I have to carry it around. I do like the green though.

I don't get the worn in, stole from a homeless person then ran it over by a truck look and then paying tons of money on it.
A youtuber recently unboxed a new YSL bag that looked like it had been baked in a desert then run over by a truck several times. She was so excited about it......but to me literally looked like it had been fished out of a rubbish tip.

Sophie when you said ‘any of these fools buy it, then that’s on them’. Such a true statement as there is a proverb ‘a fool and his money are soon parted’ OR ‘there is a sucker born every minute’ (P. T Barnum) So, yes I think that the Houses are running out of ideas AND they price things at such a high level to see if they can squeeze out money from their customers. I’m of the opinion that people will pay money just to be in on the latest thing! Crazy really 😮

That wallet/crisp bag makes those Balenciaga tote bags that looked just like paper bags look classy! Remember those, Sophie? I think you showed those in one of your travel videos, Venice maybe? And Chanel has come out with some pretty weird bags in the past, too. It's a pass if you ask me!

My son in law and daughter are members of an exclusive Golf Club in CA. I could say that the members are pretty wealthy and can afford to pay for an expensive bag!
Nobody would be seen in an LV golf bag! I showed the bag to my 14 year old grandson who is a very good golfer and asked him if he likes it and he said he rather carry his clubs in a trash bag than in an LV bag!

These designs, reminded me of the experiment which involves with setting up a fake luxury store then inviting many influencers to visit the fake store. Many of them are willing to spend a fortune on the fake luxury items.
If those Chanel tights ran, I'd take them back and get a new pair each time. That's what I'd expect - unlimited replacements.
This can be art, but only when it is not mass produced. I think what is so ridiculous is the items designed to look like trash. That is such a rude commentary to make. People who are ultra-wealthy do not have to worry about appearance so this could be seen as an insult to those who only have only limited options. It's condescending.

I saw a few videos a while ago of people reviewing art supplies from big luxury brands and not finding them anything other than basic quality A fancy case was basically what you were buying. It's such a weird product because anyone into art would be spending their money on nice quality products from brands that already exist and someone who wouldn't care about the art supplies would seem unlikely to want to buy them.

I've had many years ago a discussion on this with my boss at that time. He said something that I wholeheartedly agree with. People buy these outrageous things, because they can. In some circles, it's just simple as that. It's not about functionality or even quality. They could get a Luigi skipping rope, so they did that's it. And my two cents, sometimes it's people who are trying to show desperately that they are well off because they are not. Some of the most broke people I knew had the most outrageously expensive stuff. Trying to belong to the cool people's club that does not really exist.
These brands purposely make a very limited amount of these “absurd” items so they sell out quickly & it creates discourse. It all comes down to marketing. These companies are very good at making money
I think it can be both… art but yes, definitely laughing at people with more money than sense.

Lols, my husband is a lawyer who’s very into his golf, and he would not be caught dead with an LV golf bag. 😂 He’s not into labels at all.
It seems some designers have gone from offering designs that imitate working laborers (the paint splotched jeans come to mind) to imitating the homeless with garbage bag dresses, paper clip money clips, and the empty, wrinkled chip bag wallets. Making style out of the homeless?
On the golf bag: I don’t think that’s a bag normal golfers would use.
I can only talk for me but I want lots of easy accessible storage, lightweight and easy to clean, grass and dirt gets everywhere, it’s going to get wet quite regularly and I have to carry it around.
I do like the green though.
I can imagine some nepo babies buying these items just to have a laugh with their friends. This reminds me of You season 4 with the group of wealthy kids.
Same goes with the ‘Homeless kind pf style… I’ve seen some people who managed to pull that look very stylish where in some cases some looked way worse than a homeless person.. It just doesn’t suit them…

I personally don’t go for named clothes etc, I find it a bit flashy, and tasteless and often not worth the exorbitant price. I’d rather have something understated but quality.

Sophie, there are people with the kind of money you cannot comprehend. 10 or 20K is literally nothing to them. They don't understand it's value so spending 30K to them is like spending $5 to us. These are the type of people that buy these things. They are completely disconnected from reality, and it's sad, but it's life.
Sophie knows plenty about people with BIG money. The issue is this: how desperate for attention and self-gratification are some people? Tragic.
