I LOVE your videos and content! Question: I made your creamed soap paste (which lathers beautifully with a small amount in your hands). Then I used it to make your Lemon Meringue Whipped Soap (minus the peptides). It whipped beautifully! But, it did not lather well at all, it almost just rinsed off. I ultimately wanted to use this paste for a whipped scrub, and then added about 8 ounces of sugar to the whip, hoping to boost lather? Nothing. Would it up the lather better if, say, I added SCI to the paste/water/stearic phase to get that whip to lather well? Love your knowledge Marie!

Have you tried Sodium Lauroyl Isethionate? Last Xmas I was planning on making some syndet bars and saw that a lot of suppliers were running out of SCI so I purchased SLI(Sodium Lauryl Isethionate from Make your own because they stated it was a good replacement for SCI. It dissolved nicely in CAPB for a foaming facial cleanser and I took half of the batch and added salt and it turned into a nice thick pearlized cleanser that I absolutely love and it looks and feels like it has all sorts of ingredients but was just made with a basic formula. I highly recommend it for anyone who loves SCI.
I did a little experiment where I took 3 beakers with equal amounts of water and put a chip from SCI in one, SLI in another, and SCMI in another one. By the next day the SCMI was dissolved, which I already knew it would. The SLI was still solid but had dissolved a little bit more than the SCI. I wasn't expecting that because the SLI has a more opaque appearance than SCI.
SCMI is a great substitute for SCI in liquids because it's water solubility is higher. I use it in my fav shampoo formula and it works well for my whole families hair even though we have different types.

It's possible to make clear liquid cleansers with it (search "orange cloud" at www.humblebeeandme.com/search) but if clear liquid formulations are important to you, I would not recommend Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate (SCI) as your primary surfactant.

Are you asking about the difference between Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate (SCI) and Sodium lauroyl methyl isethionate (SLMI)? When it comes to making optically clear formulations with Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate (SCI) I've found the dosage and the rest of the formulation to be more important than the specific Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate (SCI) used :)

Sodium Isethionate is the lathering ingredient in Lush shampoo bars. It's also used in "syndet" bars, synthetic detergent bars. They are "beauty bars" which can't be labeled as soap. I've bought some syndet bars with sodium Isethionate for use as a shampoo bar. They vary in effectiveness, mostly due to other ingredients, especially fats and oils to make it moisturizing to skin. You can make your own shampoo bars with it using many recipes found online. Sodium Isethionate is less harsh than SLS and not as drying. I suggest putting the shampoo bars in a small mesh drawstring bag to hang it up with, the mesh helps the lathering and drying it out prolongs the product. This info I gathered started with me wanting to make my own shampoo bars cheaper than Lush.

Hi all. 1 other truth about sci. One of the materials it's made from, sodium isothionate, is ethoxylated. "Sodium isethionate is manufactured by reaction of ethylene oxide . Ethoxylated ingredients on their own are of low concern, however, the process of ethoxylation, may leave behind trace amounts of carcinogens. 1,4-dioxane is a clear liquid that easily dissolves in water." SCI is not green, so if you want organic or green ingredients, this one isn't.

99% of the videos I share have a written version on my website and it's always linked in the description box below my videos ❤ Scroll down and click over to the Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate (SCI) free Humblebee & Me DIY Encyclopedia (www.humblebeeandme.com/diy-encyclopedia/) entry for the same info, but in writing! ❤

The other option is you can click on settings on UA-cam and change the playback speed. You can slow the video down this way to suit your liking 😊
