That’s what I thought for years, based on some article I must’ve read from a “I don’t know shit, but I think I do health guru”. Docs coming on UA-cam and sharing their many years of knowledge are a game changer~ 🤙🏼🌺
I had ugly cracked heels for years. For several months I applied Vaseline after a shower (using pumice stone to exfoliate) and covered with socks. After a few months I had smooth heels. Pretty feet again. This is also my daily routine to maintain my pretty feet. 🐾
I clicked on your post for the first time wondering if you knew my favorite hack for Vaseline. Since you’re dermatologists, you stayed in your field of expertise. BUT Vaseline is also good for “healing” furniture. My mother taught me this remedy and it’s never failed. If a piece of finished wood furniture gets a white water mark, smear it with a coat of Vaseline and leave it on for 24 hours. Then, wipe it off with a soft cloth, and VOILA!!! the white mark vanishes and your furniture’s finish is restored.
Yup. Known this my whole life (I’m 50). Nice to finally see my evening moisturizer of choice confirmed on UA-cam. No one needs expensive skin care products.
If you have ever heard the phrase “black don’t crack” this is a MAJOR reason why. Black folks have been using Vaseline as skin care for generations. I’m in my 50’s and in the winter I’ll still use a combination of baby oil & Vaseline after I get out of the shower instead of lotion. One other tip that they left out is that it’s good in cold climates to help protect your face against the cold wind. It’s basically the same idea that Eskimo’s used when applying animal fat to their skin.
I'm white, and my whole family has been using Vaseline for their regular skin care routine for generations. Black don't crack because of the thicker dermis layer of their skin and the fact that they have about twice as much melanin in their skin to protect them from photoaging.
Hair surgeon here, beyond just the occlusive effect it improves penetration of products into the stratum corneum. This is a must have if you use it with growth factors!
@@Jmwamuchemi - Just Google "stratum corneum." It is the outermost layer of the epidermis, which is the outermost part of the skin. It plays a crucial role in protecting the body from environmental damage, pathogens, and dehydration. The stratum corneum is essential for maintaining skin health, acting as a protective shield and helping to keep the body hydrated and safe from environmental stresses.
I have been using Petrolatum on my face, neck, hands, legs, arms, and feet for quite a while after seeing you two address slugging some time back and also seeing Dr. Dray promote it as well. I am 70 and it does wonders to help keep the moisture in my skin and to help my other products penetrate my skin. Thanks for what you do. Love your channel!
I've been curious about this lately, how do you apply it to your skin without it being sticky? I've used it on my face for years, and I can do a thin layer, but I don't put clothes on my face. Did it get on your clothes?
@@annsmith9196 if I put in on during the day it is a very thin coat, especially if I am wearing something that might cling to my skin. I use more at night when I don't care about what it might stick too, but do put in on my legs, feet, arms and hands a bit before I get into bed to give it some time to settle in.
When I was child (many years ago) I had a severe outbreak of eczema and the doctors couldn't get it under control. I suggested Vaseline to at least at least make my terribly dry skin feel better. Ha! It turned out to be the cure🎉
My skin ferociously reacted to the post care products for my chemical peel. I immediately switched to Vaseline. This was the only thing that saved my pain and jaded experience. Its a forever product in my home repertoire. 💙
I have used Vaseline for years as a skin softener for my feet. Rub on a good amount in the dry areas and sleep with socks on. I wake up with the softest feet! Love it
Love you guys and love Petrolatum for my dry hands, dry feet, eyelid dermatitis, lip balm, nails, cuts, scrapes, over any dry spot on my face or body. Even my ears sometimes when they get itchy. On my nose when I have a cold to keep it from being red and raw! Literally everything ❤
used it all over my face for 80 years and i look like I’m 20’s ..in fact someone said i looked 20 and asked what i did and i said i rub vaseline all over my my face and body i even eat it and my organs are like new
I’ve been using Vaseline for many years on my lips and it works great! I also get nose bleeds in the winter, so I put on the lining of my nostrils, very helpful 👍❤️💯
I just recently started using it on my armpits. It works extremely well. I figured it out because I would go on vacation and forget to bring my deodorant and would use lotion instead. Then I thought a week ago that instead of using deodorant, why not use Vaseline? It's the best thing I've ever done. My armpits are not irritated, and I feel super comfortable.
I have an older friend that had a grandson born with a severe form of Ichthyosis. The skin was so thick around his eyes that the lids could not close. They had to coat his eyeballs with Vaseline for weeks until they were able to kind of manage the skin around his eyes. I think they had to use Vaseline everywhere for him, but the eyes is what stood out to me because even with covers they would have dried out and he would have been blind if they could not have kept the corneas moist.
I used Vaseline on my face for years and never had any problems with it. I now only use Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil on my face. I am 75 now and no one ever guesses my age, they always have a shocked look on their faces. Yes, I have a few wrinkles, but nothing for me to get upset about. Now, I think I will pick up a jar of Vaseline on my next trip to the store. Thanks guys.
@@ash9x9 How would olive oil make your skin sticky? It’s an oil. I use jojoba oil before drying off after showers and it absorb into the skin quickly. You aren’t slathering on large amounts, just thin layer. Some people follow up with a good lotion or moisturizer (I live in a dry, high-altitude region so it’s a must).
As someone who makes skin care products, this was absolutely fascinating. I've always had a tub of Vaseline in my medicine cabinet (and a mini tub in my purse) but I didn't realize just how good a product it is. Thank you!
Thank you for this interesting and helpful video. My 83-year-old skin gets easily irritated by most over-the-counter skin products but not Vaseline! Wish I had begun using it when I was a teenager!!!
Harsh Canadian weather - below minus 20c - dictates heating which dries out skin. I line my nostrils before going to bed so they don’t dry out during the night. It allows me to breath easily
I might try that next time I head off on a long flight. Often my nose dries out and I have some discomfort for the first couple of days I’m at my destination. Thanks for sharing! 😊
I just started slugging a few weeks ago. My face and eye area has become very dry and flaky. I have an autoimmune disorder that has worsened my skin. Using good moisturizer such as Cerave, then seal with Aquaphor has been a miracle. My niece’s half sister became critically ill and swelled so bad her skin ruptured and tore in numerous areas. I recommended Vaseline dressings. Apply liberal layers and wrap gently with dressings to absorb the fluid leaking out of her skin. It healed her skin up within 3 weeks. Her family was very appreciative.
Be careful of Aquaphor. It can cause allergic reactions. I used it for years and then all of a sudden had reactions. My dermatologist said it’s probably the lanolin in it and to just use Vaseline instead
My Mom's staple hack! I'm 58 years old and have the smoothest skin overall, and use it as a nightly face softener. I also remember years ago, Tyra Banks revealed that it was her daily ritual passed along by her own mother.
Black in the south have been using this on our skin for decades and when I was growing up we also used it for a subsirutue for hair grease and I still do, I use it on my face every night before bed time. They are sooo right. It can be used for burns, diaper rash also.
What timing! ... I had just applied Vaseline over a layer of aloe gel on my sunburnt shoulders, and as the last layer on my face over my serums to soothe my skin after all the sun. Thereafter put a few drops of perfume into a small jar of Vaseline for the perfume hack. Then I opened UA-cam and this was the first video I saw!😊 I've also been loving Vaseline on my lips at night after I apply laroche posay lipikar balm. Plump hydrated lips every morning
Its referred to as synchronicity. I was waiting out the 30minutes soak of some aloes. I plan to have aloe vera gel over my arms and shoulders shortly.I spent many hours in the sun over the last two days. Now I can top off with some vaseline. We live in some amazing times. Merry Christmas from the Caribbean.
Thank you. My skin doctor told me, after the 2 weeks treatment to eradicate sun-spots, to apply vaseline. I didn’t believe him…. Now, I will. Blessings, Melody, Australia.😊
My mom used this in the 40's as a night moisturizer. She has always had the softest skin. I've used it as a hand moisturizer when my skin was very dry.
I used Vaseline on my babies 50 some years ago with every diaper change on their little bottoms to prevent diaper rash. Have a Blessed & Merry Christmas!❤️🎄
my lips were a mess - i had cracked corners, and the outline of my lips were not ever visible because of the redness around it. But as soon as i tried Aquaphor, it helped SO much more than vaseline or any balm / lip treatment ever could
I am 70. I have used Vaseline since i was 8 yrs old. Great for any dry skin, Love the feel on my face in the morning. I also did not have any issues with the dreaded pimples while going through that faze of my life. I still use it daily.
I totally support this video. I was asthmatic as a baby, and my late grandmother used to feed me a teaspoon of "Vaseline" daily. I am told I was no longer asthmatic within a year. I have not had asthma since. Today I think so much is added to it, I would not recommend it. But you get my point...
Excellent video. One thing to remember is that buying generic petroleum jelly - instead of the brand name Vaseline - can save you anywhere from $1 to $3.
I think that genetics is probably the most important factor for how one's appearance changes with age. My parents and my grandparents were always being told that they looked much younger than their age. On a flight to Hawaii when my maternal grandmother was in her early 70s, she was sitting next to a friend of hers who was in her late 60s and was sleeping, the flight attendant asked my grandmother in a whisper what she wanted for her meal and then asked her if she should bring something for her mother since she didn't want to wake her up. My grandmother's friend bolted upright and exclaimed, "I'm not her mother!" Two months before my 57th birthday, I was visiting some friends of mine from college to attend their daughter's wedding. It was the first time I met their daughter's fiance'. He was sitting next to me at dinner, and said that before he had heard me talking to his fiancee's parents about our college days during dinner, he had thought I was one of her brothers' friends and her brothers were in their early 30s. When I announced my early retirement at work when I was 57, several of my co-workers who were in their mid-30s to early 40s told me I was way too young to retire. I replied that it was a little early, but not unheard of. I asked them how old do you think I am. They said they thought I was about their age. They were flabbergasted when I told them I was 57 so I was closer to their parents ages than to their age. My only skin care routine has been to wash my face with soap and water, use hydrogen peroxide on the occasional pimple, and use SPF 100 sunscreen on all exposed skin because my very fair skin burns so easily.
I’ve used it for my lips for about 50 years. It’s better than any chapstick I’ve tried. I’m a midwife and I have noticed those who use Vaseline on their abdomen during pregnancy typically have few stretch marks compared to anything else people use.
I had red rashy skin on my arms that a doctor misdiagnosed as hives & sent me to an allergist. The allergist kind of rolled his eyes & diagnosed PK. Told me to use vaselibe. I was skeptical but did as instructed. Cleared it up in about 2 weeks. No abrasive scrubs or acids needed. And yes it's an amazing lip balm & makeup remover too as well as a great cuticle & hand cream. Super cheap & all purpose 👍
I've used it on my lips but will do so more now that I understand what it's doing better. I have cats and occasionally get the little scratch. For some reason that scratch also itches. I have an antibacterial liquid soap that's a hospital brand that I discovered can be bought on Amazon. I clean these occasional scratches with it but still have that itching afterward. One day, I tried pitting Vaseline on the scratch after cleaning it well with antimicrobial soap, and the itch instantly goes away. The scratch is healed fast within just a few days. I also went a long time without wearing earrings in my pierced ears. I found it difficult to put them in. I made sure they were clean and used a q-tip and put Vaseline in the post of the earring and slipped it in to my ear and it helped open it back up and healed it from my first attempt without Vaseline. It worked like a dream. I love this video. I will make more use of it from now on!
I used it on my babies and young children as protection against sand flies. The sand fly urine didn’t get through to their skin to irritate. Also I believe that baby oil is a similar product and used that for protection against mosquitoes.
I have used Vaseline on my lips before bed for at least three decades now. I do not have any wrinkles around my mouth or chapped lips. I have used it before for little burns from cooking dinner for example. Great stuff!
Umm, HELLO, Dr. Shaw!!! Your humility is showing! I can't believe you brought up the Aquaphor under eye concealer hack without suggesting Remedy for dry lips instead! This is something I've been doing ever since my first tube. If it's all the same to you, I prefer having all of YOUR fantastic ingredients under my concealer in that delicate eye area. AND, Remedy for dry lips is a great spot treatment daytime dupe for Vaseline for a no-sheen look on dry patches. Just sayin'... You're welcome! ; )
As a 74 year old woman Vaseline has always been around. In the winter I mix it with my heavier lotions or creams, I put a light amount on my nails and use it to remove my mascara. I would rub a little on my dog's coat after bathing him, he also liked eating it. Also, I had two small parrots that I would rub a small amount on their beaks and feet. It's truly an all purpose product.
Thank you for this video! I started using vaseline about 2 years ago, then switched to aquaphor about 1 year ago. My jaw line and neck are SUPER reactive even to the most gentle, basic lotions (eventhough they work on my face). But I needed something for dry skin on those areas and basically as a last resort I tried vaseline and I've never stopped! I'm 47, have combo oily skin and its never looked better. But lately I've heard "scary" things about petroleum products and I was questioning my routine. So, thanks for the reassurance!
My Vaseline hack is as an mascara remover. I put it on a cotton pad, leave flat on my eyes while it is closed then small pinch to massage it off. Then I repeat as often as Vaseline layer allows and to remove the gunk leftover. It also moisturizes the eyes for the double cleanse.
I've also used Vaseline on my RV as an emergency sealant before unexpected rain storms or if it's too cold to caulk. It acts as an instant barrier that keeps out water on hairline cracks in caulking. It's only a temporary fix for a short period though since it will leave dark streaks if it's left on long enough.
Yes it's true, Vaseline is like a magic, i applied vaseline on my under eye hollow and wrinkles with in 2-3 days i noticed my under eye hollow and wrinkles gets healing
I have used Vaseline on my skin for years- thanks grandma!- it’s only been recently that I have used it on my face. I have acne prone skin and was always afraid to put stuff like that on my skin. I use it on acne scars after washing and it for real helps them heal faster and with less hyperpigmentation. Maybe it’s because it keeps the overlying skin supple or it just helps to keep more bacteria out. Idk but it works well and it doesn’t break me out when used sparingly. The old stuff works well
I used to use Vaseline on my lips. I use Remedy for Lips now. No lie. Good stuff. Buy it, y’all.
So good
I use it always,it's a good stuff
Is Remedy made by Vaseline?
@florabamabelle6413 no made by dr in video he has a whole great line of remedy skin care also

That’s what I thought for years, based on some article I must’ve read from a “I don’t know shit, but I think I do health guru”. Docs coming on UA-cam and sharing their many years of knowledge are a game changer~ 🤙🏼🌺
SAY 👏 THEIR 👏 NAMES 👏
I just have to see what that dumpster fire looks like! Lol

Castoroil seems better to me
I just fell back in love with Vaseline! I mistakenly thought it was a bad thing. Thank you for this!✨
I had ugly cracked heels for years.
I used mayo on a table I restored this year, but I’ll keep this in mind for future projects.
Same with Olive Oil🥰
@@lisabehun1696add a tomato slice and lettuce and eat the table. I used mayo too!
Im white and weve been using it too
I'm white, and my whole family has been using Vaseline for their regular skin care routine for generations. Black don't crack because of the thicker dermis layer of their skin and the fact that they have about twice as much melanin in their skin to protect them from photoaging.
I hope that its not Johnsons baby oil.
I worked for the company that produced Vaseline. Chesebrough Pond’s.

Hair surgeon here, beyond just the occlusive effect it improves penetration of products into the stratum corneum. This is a must have if you use it with growth factors!
What does that mean please? Could you explain a bit what stratum corneum is? And how is that connected with vaseline 🙏🏾
@@Jmwamuchemi Stratum corneum is the outermost layer of the epidermis!
I can apply minoxidil and then petroleum?
@@HaydeeSophia I would consult my Dr. about that. Minoxidil can be irritating to skin. I personally would not risk additional irritation.
I use it too after erbium yag laser treatments!!!😊
I have used Vaseline for years as a skin softener for my feet. Rub on a good amount in the dry areas and sleep with socks on. I wake up with the softest feet! Love it
Fresh out the shower, I mix Vaseline and glycerine together, rub on my feet and put socks on. My feet are baby soft year round.
@@NC-tt4gcwhy put socks on, what does it do?
@@NC-tt4gcsuch a great idea. Im definitely going to try this, thanks.
I cannot imagine my skincare routine without it. I even use it to heal my dry nails and cuticles.
I think I'll try it on my cuticles too.
Thanks!
Grew up putting Vaseline around my eyes most of my life. Turned 70 in Oct and have zero crows feet 😊
Same here and I'm 80. No crows feet ! Also use it on my lips and cuticles.
Ditto. Am 79
Ditto! I am 64. I don’t have lip lines either💕
Grew up not using it. Turned 65 and zero crows feet, so….
used it all over my face for 80 years and i look like I’m 20’s ..in fact someone said i looked 20 and asked what i did and i said i rub vaseline all over my my face and body i even eat it and my organs are like new
"Ooh day toy lett" and "you day par fume" OMG I'm dying so adorable! Guess Dr. Shah didn't take French in high school.
Right?! I kept repeating the correct pronunciation back each time but he didn’t listen😛 Said they name of the perfume perfectly tho
I’ve been using Vaseline for many years on my lips and it works great! I also get nose bleeds in the winter, so I put on the lining of my nostrils, very helpful 👍❤️💯
Is it to prevent nose bleeds? Do you apply it in case, or when? Thanks for sharing!
My 13 year old son was getting nosebleeds & his pediatrician recommended that I start putting Vaseline in his nose.
@@AllGrowing I do it to prevent 👍
@@sandylunden5782 Thanks so much, very helpful!
didn't it darken your lips over time?
That is interesting. Hopefully, he is fully healed and can easily close his eyelids. 🙏🏽
I’ve heard of that, hours spent every day for life in skin care, thank goodness was we have treatments now, these babies used to just die at birth! 🥺
No ,I used vaseline on my face. I ended up getting white marks all over my face bad reaction. I wouldn't tell people to use it on your face.
does Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil not make your face sticky? do u use it at night?
I use coconut oil on my face as well. Vaseline is better than chapstick for dry lips.
Good luck finding pure olive oil.
I suffer from itchy feet , I tried everything and Vaseline is the best thing on the market.I have tried everything
As someone who makes skin care products, this was absolutely fascinating. I've always had a tub of Vaseline in my medicine cabinet (and a mini tub in my purse) but I didn't realize just how good a product it is. Thank you!
Hello. I have dry skin and my doctor told me to use a heavy lotion, but she said Vaseline is the best. So now I use Vaseline. Thanks for your post!!
Thank you for this interesting and helpful video. My 83-year-old skin gets easily irritated by most over-the-counter skin products but not Vaseline! Wish I had begun using it when I was a teenager!!!
I love Vaseline! It works the best on me. I use it mostly in the winter when caring for horses to protect my skin from dry air, wind, and the cold.
Same with me. It's bitter cold and windy at my own stables ( the horses love it) and the only thing that protects my skin is vaseline
Harsh Canadian weather - below minus 20c - dictates heating which dries out skin. I line my nostrils before going to bed so they don’t dry out during the night. It allows me to breath easily
@francedangela9556 Please please check further on this. Vaseline inside the nostrils is dangerous and can damage your lungs.
I might try that next time I head off on a long flight. Often my nose dries out and I have some discomfort for the first couple of days I’m at my destination. Thanks for sharing! 😊
Can also be used that way for hay fever.
@ It works. I kind of mini-slug before boarding and reapply on long flights.
My 91 year old mother has used Vaseline forever. She has no wrinkles. I'm 65, and I'm the same way!😊
Genetics maybe, how do you know it's Vaseline
91 and no wrinkles??? Hard to believe.
My Mom's staple hack! I'm 58 years old and have the smoothest skin overall, and use it as a nightly face softener. I also remember years ago, Tyra Banks revealed that it was her daily ritual passed along by her own mother.
I use it around my eyes to prevent water loss and i have no wrinkles. Ilove it.
Black in the south have been using this on our skin for decades and when I was growing up we also used it for a subsirutue for hair grease and I still do, I use it on my face every night before bed time. They are sooo right. It can be used for burns, diaper rash also.
I have relied on petrolatum to protect my lips for years. But am expanding my use to skin care.
Same.
Me too 😊
As you age, you will not regret using Vaseline. I also love CereVe healing balm❣
What timing! ... I had just applied Vaseline over a layer of aloe gel on my sunburnt shoulders, and as the last layer on my face over my serums to soothe my skin after all the sun. Thereafter put a few drops of perfume into a small jar of Vaseline for the perfume hack.
Then I opened UA-cam and this was the first video I saw!😊
I've also been loving Vaseline on my lips at night after I apply laroche posay lipikar balm.
I use Vaseline DAILY! Love it. Use it in the morning as a lip balm and at night. And use it for wound healing from bug bites etc. works amazing! ❤
Vaseline and Vick's seem to save people a lot of troubles and a lot of time.
I used Vaseline on my babies too ❤
Me too
my lips were a mess - i had cracked corners, and the outline of my lips were not ever visible because of the redness around it.
I am 60 and I have been using Vaseline for 30 years all over my body and face. It is the best thing ever! FANTASTIC
I use vaseline on my lips day and night, and they are very soft. I also slug my skin with it every other night, and it is super soft. 😊
My grandmothers swore by this. I’m a grandmother now and I do too. ❤.
Could you guys please make a video where you give us your recommendations for a skin care routine for every skin type? Would be super nice.
Had a small pre cancer spot treated by my Dermatologist, kept it covered with Aquaphore. No scare and healed quickly
In Jamaica, vaseline is used for everything in skincare and haircare. Thanks for sharing this additional info.
I like the actual Brand Vaseline. I tried the cheaper store brand but it had a more Petroleum scent to it that I did not like....thanks doctors!
I totally support this video. I was asthmatic as a baby, and my late grandmother used to feed me a teaspoon of "Vaseline" daily. I am told I was no longer asthmatic within a year. I have not had asthma since. Today I think so much is added to it, I would not recommend it. But you get my point...
It’s been a total game-changer for the eczema on my chin, stopping infection and keeping it from flaking and cracking.
Excellent video. One thing to remember is that buying generic petroleum jelly - instead of the brand name Vaseline - can save you anywhere from $1 to $3.
I’ve used only Vaseline on my lips since the 90’s. THERE’S NOTHING BETTER. Period. 😊 it’s a GREAT moisturizer
God bless ✨
I have been using Vaseline as moisturizer from 40 years and I think my skin looks great even at 60
I think that genetics is probably the most important factor for how one's appearance changes with age.
My grandmother's friend bolted upright and exclaimed, "I'm not her mother!"
Two months before my 57th birthday, I was visiting some friends of mine from college to attend their daughter's wedding.
Finally, Vaseline getting the love it deserves
I’ve used it for my lips for about 50 years. It’s better than any chapstick I’ve tried. I’m a midwife and I have noticed those who use Vaseline on their abdomen during pregnancy typically have few stretch marks compared to anything else people use.
Thank you for this! I have for years thought that Vaseline was bad for your skin 🤷🏻♀️
I’m 43 and have been using Vaseline as my eye cream since I’m 16. I have no wrinkles on my eye area. It works!
In my culture this was a staple, my great grandmothers swore by this in my household to this day and I'm 52
I love castor oil for slugging and its good for me lashes and brows too ❤
I always have Vaseline in my bathroom. A must for just about anything!! ❤ Great for lips. 💋
I used cerave healing ointment on my daughter for diaper rash and it worked faster and better than diaper rash cream.
You're welcome! ; )
You guys are awesome! I've been using Vaseline since the early 70's. Best lip moisturizer out there. Happy holidays from Wisconsin!
I love y’all’s content….so educational and helpful! Very helpful….i have it everywhere!happy holidays 🎉🎉🎉
I absolutely love Aquaphor! I worked in dermatology for 26 years and loved the little samples they would give us.
I spend a lot of time outside in the winter I use it on my face and hands helps out a lot to keep skin drying out
As a 74 year old woman Vaseline has always been around.
A woman who used to own a business was 95 and she looked 50. She said the only thing that ever touch my face was Vaseline!
They get to the point at 4:17
Thank you
Thank you ❤
Yup. ....almost turned it off
My Vaseline hack is as an mascara remover.
Vanessa Williams on an episode of Modern Family: “Once a week I sleep in a wet suit filled with Vaseline”
Hailey: “It shows”. 😂
I’ve used Vaseline in many ways over the years. Using on my lips always for years but I just received the Remedy lip treatment and it is fantastic!
Yes it's true, Vaseline is like a magic, i applied vaseline on my under eye hollow and wrinkles with in 2-3 days i noticed my under eye hollow and wrinkles gets healing
Winter is here. I use moisturizer, apply Vaseline, put on small cotton gloves, and wake up next morning. Hands and cuticles are smooth and soft.
Merry Christmas guys! Use and love products from both of you, thank you ❤
I have used Vaseline on my skin for years- thanks grandma!- it’s only been recently that I have used it on my face.
