Lukla Airport.. Landing & Takeoff October 14, 2022 | Most dangerous Airport in the world

- Lukla Airport is one of the busiest airports in Nepal. This airport is situated at an altitude of 2,845 meters above sea level in the Khumbu region of Nepal. It serves as the gateway to the Everest region and is the starting point for treks to Mount Everest Base Camp. In this video, we can see the plane landing and takeoff at Lukla airport which is the world's most dangerous airport due to its location in the Himalayas and its short, sloping runway.
The airport's runway is quite short, measuring about 527 meters (1,729 feet) in length, and it has a significant slope, making it one of the most difficult runways in the world. The runway is built into the mountainside, and its steep incline helps planes slow down upon landing and gain speed during takeoff.
Lukla Airport primarily serves as a domestic airport, connecting Kathmandu (Tribhuvan International Airport) with Lukla. It is a crucial transportation link for trekkers and climbers heading to the Everest region.
Tenzing-Hillary airport is named after Sir Edmund Hillary of New Zealand and Tenzing Norgay, a Sherpa of Nepal, who were the first climbers to reach the summit of Mount Everest in 1953.
Weather Challenges in Lukla Airport is prone to adverse weather conditions, including fog, high winds, and low visibility, which can lead to flight delays and cancellations. Due to these challenges, it's essential for travelers to be flexible with their plans when flying to or from Lukla.
The airport plays a significant role in the tourism industry of Nepal, as it provides access to the Khumbu region, which is a popular destination for trekkers, mountaineers, and adventure enthusiasts. Many treks in the Everest region start or end at Lukla.

I flew in and out of Lulka around Xmas 1980. The run way was just a dirt pot-holed track littered with crahed aircraft on both sides. Ripped off wings were propped up to form the boundary fence, and fuselages were used for accomodation and firewood storage. Oil streamed all the way out of one of the wings when we flew back to Kathmandu, and the internal plastic ceiling and overheads collapsed on our heads as we sped off down the runway. The locals thought nothing of it, as they just pushed it all back up again.
@@_._samyog5501 Sounds like the airline companies care more about profits than maintaining their aircraft. Appalling.
@@vladsnape6408sounds more like a lack of resources in a developing country
what an adventure
@@vladsnape6408Nepal used the worst of aircraft, mostly second hand aircraft and even old outdated third hand aircrafts. Lots of safety reasons and hazards while flying domestic in Nepal wouldn't recommend flying in the country

Lukla Airport is definitely one of a kind airport surrounded by breathtaking scenery. The mountains are stunning most definitely so. Love the view, it is spectacular. ♥️♥️
As beautiful it is, this airport is also extremely dangerous and difficult to land a plane and yet, these pilots make these landings very easy!
Much respect for all these pilots, they do a superb job landing these planes.
Congratulations to all of them on a job well done.
Bravo, bravo 👏👏👏👏👏🙌🙌👍👍👍🙏🙏

How reassuring as pilot/passenger to see the ground crew watching anxiously along 😬😅
nice plane spotting video ... extreme but beautiful airport
Very cool and very brave Crew.

wow beautiful place
Mountain flying in this area is beautiful but challenging when the weather conditions change
It is
It’s just as busy as Chicago O’Hare
Impressive and amazing

Emocionante y adrenalina, esta muy peqieño ese aetopuerto, muy bonita vista que pais es ahí?

Love the video! Good job!
Sorprendente, extraordinario. Excelente.
Look at the bright side, at least you don't have long taxi ways!
Lucky to have an airpot. In indonesia only a narrow dirt road on top of the mountains 200 feet long
In our country, we have many airports which are more than airplanes we have.
Airport at the top the mountain? You mean in Papua Province, Indonesia?
200 feet is an exaggeration. Even 200 metre's doesn't really exist (In some cases it does). This is coming from someone with extensive Papua experience.
Did this three times so far , looking forward next time
Impressive and beautiful.
One of my favorite airports
3:21 is that old Heli pad location transferred down due to 3 year back incident ??
Yep. They made a specially armoured concrete heli pad about 20 meters down the previous one. It may be a safer structure but the concrete looks bad.
Underwear sales must be strong in the gift shop there.
lol

Not as bad as Kundiawa in PNG highlands. That strip will catch your attention
That first take off didn’t get airborne until just about every bit of runway was used up! This place allows no room for error. What’s the length of the runway?
The runway is 527 m long.
They paid to use the runway, they're going to use every bit of the damn runway!
Runway 06 / 24

Ola bom dia amigo su do Brasil queria saber de onde você é esse aeroporto gosto muito de ver seus vídeos ok abraço
In MSFS 2020, I love to take off from here in my TBM-930, climb out and buzz the peak of Mt. Everest.
Lukla es un lugar maravilloso y hermoso. un paisaje de montanas fenomenal.👍👍👍👍👍💜💙💚
Lukla is actually the name of the town, it’s Tenzing-Hillary Airport
Yes, now known as Tenzing-Hillary Airport
Super Nice video 😍
Disregarding the taxi-lines is compulsory?
Interesting City.
The pilots of this area are so skilled that they use their planes like toys!
Geez that would be a hairy ride Hehe
No one follows the taxi lines on the ramp.
Why even follow in such a small ramp like this
That's the last thing they're bothered abt after a ball crunching landing 😮
Yes it's just embarrassing for aviators 🤦🏻
That's for Airbus only 😅
@@Pilot_Mugenwhat’s you point?

So cool! Would it be ok to feature clips in one of our future videos please? full credit and links to you :)
GRANDES PILOTOS ❤❤❤❤❤
1:40 What was the purpose of the second plane that landed?
Passenger aircraft, just of a different airline
Release brakes, V1, steady climb, gear up.
How did they get the asphalt and rollers and pavers and heavy equipment to build the runway to the site?
Baš dobro izgleda...i can hear Croatian people😀
The Twin Otter is the plane I would have to operate out of this airport
The Twin Otter has to be one of the most versatile passenger aircraft in the world. Operates comfortably out of SABA, worlds shortest commercial rwy and airports like Bara Scotland's Beach airport.
@@caribbaviator7058 Yet deemed not suitable to operate out of TRPG with a commercially viable payload, restricted about 6 to 10 passengers max on a 600 metre runway.
The blue and red color is my favorite aircraft
Amazing!
What a smooth landing
No aborted takeoffs, no go arounds for second landing attempts. This makes landing on aircraft carriers look easy.
No no
I think aircraft carriers have runways that pitch up and down and side to side depending on the ocean's temperament, plus they are much shorter and require cable arrestors to stop.
Большой и очень жирный лайк из Молдовы.
Amazing video. Flight time from Kathmandu to Lukla? Subbed. Taken from a hilltop or hotel?
Que pista perigosa, tem casas construídas muito perto de sua lateral.

Элка простая УВП бортовой номер АNO, я семь лет отлетал на такой же элке с бортовым АNO.
Just get on a Twin Otter and learn to relax. In the ranks of dangerous there's runway makes the one at Paro Bhouton a marshmallow landing an easy one.
If the aeroplanes turn right, they are headed to Everest.
Amazing
What did the second plane land to do because it didn't offload or load anything 😂😂
You missed an edit at 2:06
vou ir ae passear um dia amigos
Why did the second plane land? Did I miss something?
I think it's a Pilot who learn the flying on this airport you need a licsens for Luka...
Awesome
one of the most dangerous/challenging airports in asia
Top os voo top as paisagem
I wonder if this airport is more difficult than Gustaf III on Saint Barthélemy in the Caribbean? They both look like they would be a lot of fun to fly to.
St. Bart's, if you take the downhill approach, at least has the possibility of a go-around. Uphill, or into Lukla, past a certain point you're going to hit *something*. You hope it's the touchdown zone, with your wheels.
Not sure that's my idea of fun. Aspen, on the other hand... :)
@@stonebear I'm not a pilot so I would just be along for the ride. I probably wouldn't realize something had gone wrong unless there was the sound of metal being crushed! It would be fun and games until then.
Can they not follow the yellow arrows or something?
Twin Otter is beautiful
It’s funny how the crew waits to see if the plane made the take off!
What i dont understand. Is how such a small plane can handle the weight of the massive balls of the pilot?
Second airplane: I am surprised, that they use L-410. Must be moded, because I am more than sure, that it was not originally intended for this kind of use...
Yo airport lai kina sucharu ma laye ko holan khatara ho ki yo airport Bali khane Airport ho ke yo ta
You better be on your game plan briefing yourself before everything and be ready for it and know what if you loose a engine on takeoff or landing and the upslope runway down hill give you more ground and airspeed to getting airborne

Have you more informations about it? Let Kunovice build 189ea LET L-410UVP-E20, so it is unlikely they "found" fuselage from 1994.
Muy interesante genial
Breathtaking!!!
Whenever I'm there there is always a crashed carcass of an aircraft on the side.
Bro the hardest is the paro airport at 🇧🇹 😅😅😅
Anyone know what type of aircraft the red white and blue one is? Registration 9N-AND?
České letadlo L 410 Turbolet.😊
I done this many Times in FSX🗿
Only the best pilots!
Why not using 10 or 18 seater big passenger helicopters instead of small airplane. Big helicopters is safe small runways and carry same load as compare to small planes
I think the cost is more expensive in helicopter
@@mountainmate correct as require more maintenance on rotor bearings
Helicopters cannot glide if their engine fails. They are also significantly more complicated than fixed-wing aircraft, meaning a failure of any kind is more likely with them. This airport is also at a very high altitude, and helicopters have more difficulty getting enough lift there, which leads to more instability. It's very easy to lose a lot of altitude very suddenly, but difficult and slow to increase altitude. Helicopters can certainly be used, in fact they are used at this airport, but fixed-wing aircraft are objectively safer and more reliable here.
I wonder how the cancelled Evektor Ev55 would handle this airport...
Astronomical stunning video 👌👌👌….. I do fly flight infinite using Embraer 170LR in & out this amazing Lukla airport sitting on 9,337 ft above sea level…. Once you’ve reached 20,000 ft in the air after takeoff you’ll experience filthy turbulence through dense fog and that’s when I let autopilot kick in but when it comes to landing there are no waypoints you’ll have to use your instruments attentively & pray you won’t screw up🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 imagine those pilots doing this in real life approaching Lukla 💪💪💪…. I salute & gave you all brave & women much deserved standing ovation 👌

Is it really, statistically, the most dangerous airport (accidents/casualties in relation to passengers/flights) or 'just' the most difficult? Just asking for a friend .... thanks!
With Lukla you cant bail out
I would be scared of just to say. You're clear for take off.
영상을 대충 보면서 저는 이 비행기가 소형 rc 모형이 아닌가 의심했습니다.
Ini kalau cuaca hujan udah gak ada yg berani landing...
