After watching 100's of these videos, I can say the . They not only light everytime but seem to stay lit a long time. Do you think these might have helped to maintain the fire?
I had quite significant mouth surgery a few weeks ago so am recovering at home, can't eat much as jaw doesn't have full range of motion, and I have found your channel so comforting and I look forward to watching a new episode every evening and even a sneaky one during the day, I appreciate them so much. Incredible footage and content and a massive amount to work go into these camps. I certainly appreciate them and it is making my recovery a better experience. Cheers Abel and Victoria.
Despite the cold and the wet you make it look easy with good gear...its so very very important. The shots of the water dripping through the moss at the beginning are masterful. Keep up the great work.

Can we take a moment, and talk about how Abel eats like he is Andre the giant. Two double cheese burgers, then a hot chocolate and a tea. That is an appetite. 😬
So Abel you like getting your feet wet - I am assuming you maybe near the West Coast North or South, often you can tell which way the shrubs n trees lean to. Just lovely environment and the typical bush plants and heaps of moss/lichen. I have seen the mechanism to blow up your lilo mattress, just once before yours, so efficient and effortless. Good to know how easy these things can be done nowadays. I love the Birch Trees they have really nice wee leaves and the way the branches sort of protrude towards the outer - just very pretty. Cheers Abel hey you got the fire going genius. ohh! look you had Weka Visit how sweet, no noisy possums tonight?
Top of the South Island is where I usually am. Yeah this camp stop is lovey I have camped here 3 times now. River can get a bit loud with heavy rain but it’s an awesome spot
Hi Abel, greetings once again from Aylesbury UK, still following all your adventures. great to see Victoria out again in the last one as well, you remember me, the Whisky Mac guy, I'm drinking one as I write this too. You're quite a plucky, resilient and hardy soul, which if it's a national trait might explain why New Zealand seem to win the Rugby all the time ? You're certainly the winner in "Keeping a fire going in the wet", category however, Top Job Sir. Regards to both You & Victoria. By jove that Tents a bit pricey though ?

@@AbelandVictoria Only downside to using cotton balls covered in petroleum jelly is they are messy to handle and depending on the size of the cotton ball and weather conditions it can take several of them to start a fire.
Abel, do you not run a Ridgeline rope along your center point of Tarp? I don’t think so, can’t make it out in video. Anyway, this would provide support, superior tension of ridgeline, no stress on the tarp. You would use Prusik knots of pull-out end of Tarp on ends of Ridgeline.
@@AbelandVictoria No, you really are not an amateur. But a Ridgeline (thru your loops on top, or underneath center of tarp) really give more support and structure as it seriously can be tied out taught! More importantly, it won’t stretch the shit out of the Tarp! Two simple Prusic knots (you can just leave them permanently on your Ridgeline) just slide out and provide tension to the tarp. Plethora of videos on UA-cam if you are interested or have questions.

Tarp because I sit outside the tent and want shelter. The tent is waterproof just like to be able to sit Out in the rain under tarp. I use then ground sheet because there are often sharp sticks and roots on ground so some extra protection is good. My tent floors are pretty delicate material
I have a question was that a Kiwi (the bird) that just walked into your camp to chill next to the fire? Second question if it was is it common for them to be that nonchalant about humans? he was even walking around your camp at the end of the video while you were breaking down camp.
