Hey everyone this camp was a tough one. I hope you all enjoy the video 😀. This is likely the last snow we will see until next year so make the most of it ❄️⛈🏕
@@AbelandVictoria Thanks mate , im going to go invest in one right now , seen it in many different weather variants on your channel, so its clearly a good shelter Much appreciated Tom
@@AbelandVictoria im just after one that will stay secure during bad weather as the one im currently using has a habit of lifting up off the ground in high wind , even with it fully secured , ive even had my dad try securing it more , as he's been camping for 50+ years , but to no avail 🤣
Around minutes 14:05, I thought I saw a look on Abel's face that said: I wish I had stayed at home with my wife. I am just chilled watching this. Wild man.
@@AbelandVictoriaI also have a Wild Country Ultra Quasar tent, expensive but bombproof in the wind, also has two vestibules, can also buy all the bits like new poles, inner and flysheet separately if something happens to any part of it.. I've had it in 80mph winds, scared the hell out of me. The tent was fine, in 80mph rain! Wouldn't recommend that too often tho haha. Am an old mountaineer who loves a challenge. But yeah a nice Scottish summers day there my friend 😀
Absolutely, in Scotland our summer lasts for a few hours a year. Never same day each year either 😂 Plus it can snow almost any month high up on the hills, bloody love the place, beautiful yet brutal. We have a saying here- "If you dont like the weather, wait five mins, it'll change" 😂
Great video ! Loved the snow in the forest. Spectacular ! One little suggestion; warm clothes, especially camping/climbing/mountaineering clothes keep cold and also heat from reaching you. Next time if you're cold, remove your rain jacket and open your down jacket, you will instantly feel much warmer in front of a fire. The burgers looked great !! And that's from someone who isn't much of a burger fan. Good to remove the snow from the tarp because of its weight but not from the sides of the tent, there, it provides insulation.
Watching this adventure as im wrapped up like a burrito in my warm bed in the middle of the night 🌙 with temp at 39⁰F 😆. Shout out to you Abel. I admire youre endurance and sense of adventure.
We heated our house for years with a woodstove, but couldn't start a good fire with damp wood, never mind soaking wet wood. Don't know how you manage it every time. Not this time, I think. Then, ta da, there's a roaring fire.
You should of packed everything up before the tarp , do everything you can under the most outer shelter and keep yourself and everything else as dry as you can, great videos ❤
love the unique weather camping , was wonder about your camera setup would like todo something similar also your lighting for your camera. subscribed for more extreme camping.
As Tony would ( and did!) say...it was GRIM! And wow, it truly was...for both camps, yours and his. The wind for you, so strong! I think I would've either packed up and given up, or crawled into the sleeping bag to wait it out, especially when the " river" formed right where you were sitting...how miserable. Thanks for hanging in there and making a great video.
Abel, your commitment to camping in such deplorable conditions is to be saluted. Aside from the great meals and toasty fire, the rain, mud, wind and cold would have had me bailing before sunset. Thanks for toughing it out and sharing!
Hello, l just found your channel a few days ago and have been binge watching ever since😀. I like your videos and you have a great personality. Keep up the good work!
Just keep watching cause you live for the extreme experience. That’s what makes you exciting. I don’t understand why you don’t close up your tent to keep it all dry. That’s why I call it extreme camping. Love it. Thanks for the great video. You closed the tent ~ awesome
It's great to see some camping that's using some cheap, down to earth gear, that's also effective. Well done 👍🏻. I don't hear any whining. You're just explaining the situation. It's great to see someone taking harsh weather in his stride
Love watching your videos. Having been in the military, I know how much worse driving cold rain is than any snow storm. Being wet and cold is the worst. You make it look fairly easy which it certainly is not! Great stuff!
I delivered newspapers for 8 years and I can say that I would MUCH Rather be out in a blizzard than a rainstorm. If it's snowing you can brush off and get in the car where it's warm. If it's raining you are just WET.
I love how at the end you and Tony from AB camping hook up! His channel is what introduced me to following yours and I’m so glad I did … I look so forward to watching your videos! You are an inspiration! ❤
Wow, that looks like a lot of fun…NOT!!! Thanks for taking one for the team to bring us your adventure. You do a really good job narrating and keeping us engaged with what you are doing and explaining the environment. Loved the hat!
As a mature Canadian who should be retired but still in business, I enjoy living my life vicariously through experiences like this. Well done story and great camera work! PS. Visiting via cruise Jan ‘24 and hope the weather is better.
Nice one! Glad to know Tony's got one coming up too! Can't believe ya'll are still getting snow there. Sorry camp was so miserable. Still fun to watch lol. Be safe!
That's a nice-looking fire, Able. I also like your happy-go-lucky attitude while making camp in a swampy area. As long as you're dry, warm, and have hot coffee and a fire, what more can we expect? Stay safe 👍
Weight issue aside, one major bit of kit appears to be missing: a multi-purpose spade. Great to dig a moat to channel rainwater away, move snow drifts, and to cook a fry-up on (so you can ditch the frying pan). As for Hobnobs; you just gotta dunk faster bro.
With that crazy wind, you won't have to worry about your tarp pooling water! Those little cakes sound SO delicious. Orange goes so well with chocolate. The burgers look delicious! Bon appetit!
This camp was Hard! The snow would have been alright, But that Rain looked Yuck! You did well to get a fire going, that's for sure. Another great vid to watch, looking forward to the next one already.
Damn that looks brutal. I'd take -30 and snow over the rain any day. Found the channel recently and am thoroughly enjoying it. Love the campsite river, it adds a certain touch to your experience
Seeing fresh spring snow on the mountains around here, I knew someone would be out there having fun. It's been cold enough in town. Glad you did it, so we didn't have to.
Hi Abel and Victoria, I love watching your video's! I'm from Canada and we have many great places to back country camp as well. I'm inspired to visit New Zealand; the countryside is beautiful and there are few predatory wildlife. Here is Canada we camp with the bears, cougars, coyotes and snakes etc.
Hello Abel, (and absent Victoria) I watched you all the way through and you were giving yourself a hard time and were feeling like the weather was responsible for more than it was. I think that you handled everything just fine . Even a longtime bushwacker can ruin a great pitch. Every time you brought up problems I quickly looked at your face. It always had a smile and many times it had good things to say. You had a positive attitude from the first to the last. That makes up for poor equipment or weather or sometimes the company you keep. After watching your video, I remembered that there was another New Zealand person or persons that I used to watch occasionally that had a dog and I thought that they went camping sometimes. I found a family who fit the description but they didn't camp that often and their goal was to travel to the US. A little background on myself is as follows. I'm 77 years old. I grew up in Northern Wisconsin (close to Lake Superior) and extreme weather in the winter. For the last 50 years I've lived in the Mountains of Colorado. I've actually LIVED IN my tent for a number of years. Myself and my Golden Retriever. My kids and grandchildren would camp with me from time to time.
