Sad but true. I mean vera could just divorced again but this poor woman s kid was abused & her $ that pig stole.. sorta loved Vera giving her the idea & leaving her all the money. Plus dolores didn't actually touch joe. He chased her & fell into her trap. She didn't have to help him. He was drunk hanging in a hole. She never shot him or used a weapon. I'm sure the police wouldn't have Done anything . The banker had no problem releasing her money w/ only her name on it to the husband!!

my life was difficult, mine and my siblings. mental, emotional and physical abuse at the hands of my single mother and when she wanted to leave the house to go to gamble, we were sent next door to our grandmas for babysitting and sexual abuse by our uncles. 19 yrs for me until i got away to college and never looked back. my older sisters time was longer. we’re scarred and feel that through counseling and good relationships made in our lives, that we’ve become better people where we can deal with our past trauma in sane ways. deal with it in a way where our own children live trauma free lives. but, you can never truly leave it behind. there are memories. what are you supposed to do with those? this movie is a catharsis. thank you for sharing asia and wishing you and all others that have survived their own private hells and come out on the other side, much love and healing. 🙏🏼🫱🏻‍🫲🏼🫶🏼

Dang, Asia. I made my other comment, discussing the movie, before I watched all of yours & BJ's outro discussion.
I hate that you went through any kind of abuse as a child.
I went through a different kind, emotional abuse & neglect from my mother. I dealt with it pretty well but those emotional, inner scars run deep.
The good news is that you became a lovely woman who's also a sweet person & a ray of sunshine in an often gloomy world.
    To paraphrase a wise lady...
"If nobody else told you (although I know you have BJ & people who do tell you), I love you."
Sending you the positive energy of Sisterhood. We all have to love, respect & support each other.
As always, much love from Kentucky.

One of the best films of that year and should have been nominated and won for numerous awards if one believes in such dubious things as major awards. Disturbing as it is, it's also perfect.
P.S. That eerie image of Selena seeing the back of her head in the ferry bathroom mirror I think reflects how she has suddenly recalled and faced that horrific incident of the past and realizes she's always been running from the truth hence why she in a pseudo-mysical and metaphorical moment sees herself as running away. Brilliant.

She was resentful towards Dolores because in her mind at the time her father didn't do it to her & her mom killed her father. After that the whole town mocks her & she was bullied for being the child of a murderer. That's why she was resentful. At the end with the mirror scene and her head was shown backward, it is to show that she is actually crazy. When you are taking muscle relexant pills + alcohols, it messes up your head & possibly why she has repressed memories.
Anyway, I am sorry to hear about your story girl. Stay strong. 🤗

Taylor Hackford did an amazing job directing this film. The use of two different color patterns where everything in the past is bright and vibrant and everything in the present is dull and gray is very effective. We remember things more vibrantly than we see the day to day world. Also the way the past intrudes on our day to day thoughts is represented by the way the same shot alternates between the past version and the present version.

Wasn't NOMINATED? what the actual. Who was nominated? I'll look it up..I just assumed she was at least nominated. You know why that is? this whole movie was probably ignored for two reasons, ones being pretty insidious. One, they never give Oscars to Stephen King adaptions, dont know if its a snobbery thing or what. Secondly, they dont like movies about SA or grooming. They know a little too much about that.

Oh, fair warning but no spoilers: If you read/watch Gerald’s Game, it’s known as a bit of a “sister novel” to this one. I’ll leave it at that. Great story of course though.

Thank you for reacting to this one, guys! It's one of my favorites. I was an abused wife, and my son was beaten by my husband. We finally got out when my husband died. At one point, my username was Dolores Claiborne, even though I didn't kill him. I empathized with her so much, as i do with you, Asia. You're a strong woman, and smart and funny and a million other good things! BJ is a good match for you. May y'all always be blessed. ❤❤❤

I love this movie and the novella it is based on. I’ve been a SK fan since I read Carrie back in grammar school. Asia, you are so resilient, strong and brave. My heart ❤goes out to you. I dedicate this quote from Ernest Hemingway’s ‘A Farewell to Arms’ to you:
‘’The world breaks everyone and afterward many are strong at the broken places.’’

As a fellow survivor, I’m so proud of you for speaking honestly. ❤️ I’ve been a public speaker for survivors of female and adolescent offenders, sexual abuse is something I’ve often said is like a stain you can never get out, but rather learn to accessorize.

Kathy Bates and Angela Bassett have starred against each other in American Horror Story for two different seasons. The one based on New Orleans is my favorite. They are both absolutely amazing actresses. Their chemistry together was off the charts. Would love to see Kathy play a villain again on Angela’s show 9-1-1.

So good to see more people reacting to this movie. It's severely underrated. One of the best King adaptations, and I, like Kathy, think this is her best performance. Annie is a great character, but Dolores is so deep and layered, it's hard not to appreciate the brilliance of it.

Great and touching reaction guys, this is an example of how, great movies like this can some how get lost in the shuffle. I am glad through youtube people are able to give this movie another look. The cast is top tier, in addition to Kathy, Christopher Plummer is a screen legend who appeared in films for decades and won numerous awards including an Oscar, he played the detective here. Jennifer Jason Leigh who played the daughter has been acting since she was a young teenager and is always good. For more of Kathy please check her out in the American Horror Story series, she plays some pretty wild and crazy characters on that show, the most wild character that will make your skin crawl is in the 3rd season where she plays social lite Madam Delphine Lalaurie. All I will say is Holy Cow, buckle up!!

Stephen King’s ability to thrush us smack dab in the center of his stories, like I’m an NPC

The solar eclipse on the 8th was the most spectacular thing I have seen with my own eyes. I drove 175 miles to see it that day (to a town in Ohio called Celina, ironically enough). If I had the money, I would chase them all over the world. It cost me about $41 in gas and tolls to travel to this one, but flying out of the country will start to breach the $1000 barrier. So amazing to see totality though. There's a solar eclipse somewhere on the planet once every 18 months or so, on average.
