      Thank you Simone, you’re so kind! I was so upset when we came home to find the dark water ring but I’m very happy that it came out with a bit of perseverance. I know it was just a short video but I had to share it! Hope you and the family are doing well in Oz. Sending love xx

      Hi Susan, if the stain is only light it might come out with Bar Keepers Friend. I hope it works for you! 😊

    I used oxalic acid on tannin stains produced by a steel wool and vinegar solution. (I had applied the steel wool and vinegar to age the wood.) Now I want to use a white shellac over it. I have read that the acidity of the oxalic acid might dangerously impact the adhesion of the shellac. The problem is that this is on a wood ceiling - so while I could use baking soda to neutralize, I certainly can't wash the ceiling! I'm also concerned about what concentration of baking soda+water to use. How can I know what the resulting overall pH of the wood will be? While shellac is a weak acid, apparently oxalic acid is a very strong one.

    Hello~ I have a dark ring on my table but I haven't been able to fine oxalic acid in a manageable size anywhere. Is there an alternative?

      Hi there, you could try Bar Keepers Friend which has Oxalic acid in it. It might take a few tries as it is not as strong but I do use t around my taps and it works well

      I’m so glad it helped you. Do you mean you have gaps between the floor boards? If so, you could use some flexible wood filler perhaps ☺️

    Thanks for the tip! Does this work on Nespresso descaling agent stain too? Or do you have any recommendations for that stain? It causes almost the same dark stain on wooden countertop.

    Hi, we have a similar black stain on a wooden countertop as a result of putting a very hot pot. We bought 99% pure Oxilic Acid from Amazon and followed your steps, but there was no improvement after 1 hour, so we applied again and this time we left it overnight, but still no improvement. Any idea what we can do about it? Did you spend a lot of time working with the toothbrush? Can we use vinegar with Oxilic acid instead of water? Thanks

    • @bexiboo1981
      @bexiboo1981 2 місяці тому +1

      That sounds like a burn rather than a black stain. Bleaching it won’t work.

    • @bexiboo1981

      You might have to sand that out

    • @LivinganOrganisedLife
      @LivinganOrganisedLife  2 місяці тому +1

      Hi there, I totally agree, it sounds like a burn mark rather than water damage. I would try sanding it out. If the colour is uneven afterwards you could perhaps use a wood dye to even it out. Good luck!

      @@LivinganOrganisedLife Thanks, should I try steel wood 0000? Or should I use a sandpaper?

    • @zofiakazmi832
      @zofiakazmi832 2 місяці тому

      @@bexiboo1981 Yes, I believe so. Last week we tried a blow dryer on it and the stain started to fade out a bit but then our blow dryer died. Any idea if blow dryer is a safer option on burn marks like this compared to sanding? Which sandpaper do you recommend? ChatGPT suggested steel wool so we ordered 0000 as well, but not sure what's best on such marks.

    I have been at this for nearly 5 hours now and the stain mark is not shifting. I've just mixed a thicker batch of oxalic acid to see if that helps but I'm losing hope. 😔

    • @LivinganOrganisedLife
      @LivinganOrganisedLife  8 місяців тому +1

      If it’s not shifting put loads of oxalic on there with just a tiny bit of water. Scrub it a bit and leave it for a couple hours. I really hope it works for you

    Hi there! Wondering what kind of stain/finish you have on your counter here, or if it's bare wood. We have a similar problem with water damage to our (natural wood) ceiling after the roof leaked, and I'm wondering if this could be a good solution. Yours looks GREAT afterwards. Thanks so much from California!

    • @LivinganOrganisedLife

      Hi there, I use Tung oil as it brings out the natural wood colour. You could also use boiled Linseed oil or Danish oil. Best of luck with restoring your wood ceiling! ☺️
