You're a lifesaver! My husband put a rusty hinge I was had soaked in vinegar to clean it on our kitchen island butcher's block, and I thought it was ruined!
Thank you so much for making this video! We had a very large stain on our oak hardwood floor. Used this product and it removed the stain completely with only one application! 😊
Glad it helped!
You just made my day, blessings
Will this work to go from an ebony color stain to like a dark walnut? Can it be stained again?
Yep, oxalic acid has been used to clean stains for many years.
Most know it as a toilet bowl or bathroom cleaner and we use it without the blue dye for cleaning stains off both wooden and fiberglass boats.
Best!
Great video, do you think I can take the stain out of my hardwood floor with this stuff. The stain is from dog urine.
I suppose I would need to remove the urethane to get down to the stain.
It’s just a small section of floor about two feet by one foot.
I don’t want to refinish the whole floor.
Thanks! Have had a drum set in storage and it got damaged. Gonna try this.
Directions say to rinse with water and baking soda if using water based stain
I used oxalic acid on tannin stains produced by a steel wool and vinegar solution. (I had applied the steel wool and vinegar to age the wood.) Now I want to use a white shellac over it. I have read that the acidity of the oxalic acid might dangerously impact the adhesion of the shellac. The problem is that this is on a wood ceiling - so while I could use baking soda to neutralize, I certainly can't wash the ceiling! I'm also concerned about what concentration of baking soda+water to use. How can I know what the resulting overall pH of the wood will be? While shellac is a weak acid, apparently oxalic acid is a very strong one.
Thank you for this excellent video. I learned a great deal and will be using your method.
I have a teak credenza that has up damage on it. It is a veneer and on the drawers the color damage is noticeable. Would wood bleach fix this?
Did the wood have water finish or oil?
Thank you for the video, does it remove the stain from the wood floor?
I used Barkeepers Friend to bleach wood for years. It also contains oxalic acid. Its a dry powder cleaner like Ajax. Probably less expensive too. Its great on fiberglas, tubs and bleaching wood. Make sure to rinse it off well.
I’m sure just like this product it will begin to crystallize after you add water. Once the water drys up your just left with the crystallized powder.
So if you use this it leave white residue? i have some wood planks on wall unfinished and have a stain so trying find something to remove it without sanding it etc
@@jeremyconkel9403
Just be sure you rinse it off really well after you give it time to work.
I have tar from Cigerette smoke on wood chair you think it will clean it? Thx
Hello, thank you. Would this work with melted out coloring from a plastic bag on a wooden floor?
I need help with an unfinished mahogany door that got drenched with rain during delivery. The stains are dark. I am wanting it to be a dark walnut stain but am afraid the water stains will show thru. Could you possibly upload a video on how to repair and stain water stained wood? Love your videos.
Wow!
Will it work well also on oil or gas spillage in an enclosed trailer? Plywood floors
I have a question. I have to remove stain paint from screen in patio, i also have to removethe black. Customer wants wood as natural as possible. Will the wood bleach work after striping paint off?
Which proportions do you used? OA/water ??
So I have a wood dining table. A pink stick pad and a glass of water created and square pink stain on table. Would this work
Great video, thanks so much. I need to use it on my redwood floor.
Glad it was helpful!
Hello,
I have stain of black grease on my wooden floor.
Do you recon I could use this acid to clean it?
I’m not sure how effective it would be at breaking down heavy grease. I would recommend a heavy duty degreaser first and then you can try a test spot.
I bought a table that had blue stain on the top part of thr wood and sanded it off but there are still parts I couldn't get out. What would you recommend using for a kitchen table that's safe to get out a deep stain?
You can attempt to use this product. If there is an area on the bottom side you won’t really see you can test it first to make sure it won’t affect your finish.
Baking soda, a little water and a toothbrush worked really surprisingly well for me with a deep pink stain on my table
How did it look when it was "completely" dry?
It will have a slightly white hue to it if you leave it on and let it dry without washing it off with clean water. If you don’t remove it with a clean rag and water it will start to crystallize as it dries. It basically turns back into its powdered form in the container. As long as you neutralize the acid by removing all of the residue the natural color of the wood should not be affected.
Will oxalic acid neutralize black mold in wood? I'm cleaning a neglected deck and there are streaks of black mold inbeded in the wood grains. Thinking what the best approach is. Thanks for the video.

Use Shockwave diluted in water.
When you say it removes stains would it remove old stain on oak cabinets? I have cleaned with krud cutter, then sanded well but there is still stain in the deep oak wood grain. Will this product remove it? Thanks in advance.

I have black stains on my laminate, pressed wood, or compressed wood cabinets. Will this work for those types of wood?
It would likely work. You can try a test spot to make sure it won’t discolor anything.
Thank you. I just ordered from the link attached.
Thanks for the support. Remember to follow the manufactures instructions and do a test with your finish to make sure it won’t affect it.
Where you get it from?
How does stain take to the areas treated with OA? is there a different in stain look in these areas?
Depending on the type of stain yes it can potentially alter the appearance and or color. Water based stains are more susceptible to being affected. If you’re unsure if a stain or finish will be affected just apply the wood bleach to a scrap piece of wood, preferably the same type as your finished project, and put a finish over it.
My water based polyurethane looked crap. And went all funny when applying.
Sanded it off, cleaned to wood with borax mixed with water (apparently makes the ph level normal). Once it dried I polyurethaned it again, and it looked great
i have a piece of ebony with its sapwood that i want to vanish but unfortunately the sap wood has dark spots on it due to weathering. Will it ruin the dark heartwood if it accidentally soaks it?
I’m not sure how it would react to a dark wood like that. If you can test it out on an off cut or on an unseen side of the board I would recommend that.
Thank you! The iron and tee shirt worked for me!
Keep the iron moving! Gradually add heat as needed! If you stay in one spot too long, the tee shirt will stick to the wood! If that happens, remove the iron and slowly massage the tee shirt away from the wood!
Once it cools down, try again! It does work!
I have raw pine that's been stained with water. I'd love to know how this product would work on that.
I have had many people asking about specific finishes. I am planning on doing a follow up video on which I test many combinations of finishes and stains.
Wondering the same I think my wood planks are pine also so I’m wondering how works on water as well as like oily hands like my kids put there hand on wood plank wall and has oily hand print as soon as I get this and a stain off I’m going seal it
If I bleach an area on my wood floors from an old stain.....will it still stain the same color as surrounding wood when refinishing???
If you can test the finish over the wood bleach in an inconspicuous area like the back corner of a storage closet that would be ideal. If that’s not possible just try a very small spot first. Most finishes are safe with this product but there is no guarantee.
What are your thoughts on pet urine on oak tongue and groove installed @ 50 years ago. Great video Thank You
I’m unsure on the effectiveness against urine. Stay tuned though I will be making a follow up video trying and testing against different stains and finishes.
Thanks so much. I am experimenting myself. Sadly I am running out of time. I had a horrific renter who would not leave. So no rent for 6 months, finally got him out. I might just do linoleum for a quick fix for now. Not the glue down one. I'll keep watching though you do mighty fine work. Thank you!
love this! And your outfit. 😍
Howdy my fellow Union Carpenter, Local 435 out of Cleveland here. I'm looking to remove water stains from raw red oak, would this work for that? TIA
Great video , thanks..
Great to add closeups
Hello, I tried to bleach my red oak stairs and it left it with dark spots. How to I remove those dark spots without damaging my wood? could I use the same products you are using? I also don't want to mix the only container for spots. Do you have a smaller ratio formula you use?
If you try only do a small test spot to see if it will work for you. You can make a mix with however much you think you will need. The simplest method would to keep halving the portions of water and oxalic acid so the ratio stays the same. The ratio doesn’t have to be super precise as long as you have enough water for it to properly dissolve.
I got wood sealer on my Ipe deck boards how can I get rid of the sealer on the top off my deck
I have used Citristrip before for removing sealers and finishes before. Here's a link for the product. amzn.to/400aTW7
If your unsure if it will work, apply it in an inconspicuous area following the manufacturers instructions.
I’m having trouble after many coats with OA. Is there a point where it doesn’t work?
It may be that whatever you are trying to remove is just not very reactive with it. A few coats should do the trick.
So helpful!!!! Thank you!!
Anyone have any tips for removing acrylic paint soaked into the grain

Thanks for the video. What is the ratio you used? I have the same product, different manufacturer. They want me to mix the entire contents to a gallon of water. Did you use boiling water or room temperature? Thanks. Dan
I do believe the container states mixing the entire contents into a gallon of water as well. I just did the math for how much I would need for a certain amount of water while keeping the same ratio.
What's the proper name for product from amazon or ebay, ty
Thank you
I have some wood bleach and I'm getting ready to use it on my wood floor and it says You must use a respirator and goggles because of the acid when it dries it crystallizes and you could breathe it in your lungs and it's like sharp glass or something and it tears your lungs to Pieces it makes them bleed it is dangerous a company that sells oxalate acid said that you must wear a respirator and gloves and goggles I am wondering if you're alright because it doesn't look like you're wearing respirator
I am fine. As long as you apply and use the product properly it will not crystallize. You are supposed to remove any remaining amount of the diluted solution with clean water before it completely dries and crystallizes.
My painter convinced me all new stair treads and posts would be cheaper than removing the stain
That can be tough. Stripping and sanding treads and posts is a time consuming process. If your painter is willing to work with you a good way to make his job easier and maybe save you a few bucks is to use a product like Citristrip ---> amzn.to/3R7KYHY . The trick is to apply it and then wrap it tightly with cellophane so it cannot dry out for 24 hours. Unwrap and the finish comes right off.
@@pinerowfurniture I saw a video of guys using a flat electrical sander with some spongy sand paper and it shredded its way through the stain . Wish I would have tried that
Would someone post link here thanks
There is link to the product in the video description
Yip followed link sold out
Sold out any other ideas on what else to use
Thanks!
Wanting to remove paint two different ones
I would recommend this product called CitriStrip amzn.to/3OU8NDV Its easy to use and will remove latex and oil based finishes.
Would this work on dog pee stains on pine floorboards ?
I’m unsure on the effectiveness against urine. Stay tuned though I will be making a follow up video trying and testing against different stains and finishes.
I have a hard time taking stains out of maple hard wood
Do you think it would remove cigarette stains from a table top?
It is difficult to say. If it’s a burn mark from a lit cigarette then no. As far as I know there isn’t anything that can get rid of discolored charred wood. Only way to fix that is sand the wood down if the burn doesn’t go deep.
I’ve been scrubbing and scrubbing and still won’t come off
Impressive! Thank you!
Would this removed pet urine stain from wood floor ?
I’m unsure how effective it would be with that. If the floors have a finish on them it probably won’t work very well.
I can’t get the container open !!!!
It is tightly sealed lid. I had a hard time as well. I used a putty knife to pry it open carefully. Make sure to wear gloves because the dry powder can irritate your skin.
This product does not work. Just tried and the grey stain are still there after 5 applications. This video is tricked with a fake water stain
It is not fake I milled a tree that had nails in it. The iron nails are what caused the staining.
Didn’t work that well lol
AcidRrrrrppppppppp
Does this remove wood stain paint from wood as crazy of a question it sounds thank you
I don’t have a good answer for that. All I can say is give it a try in an inconspicuous area to see if it will work. Also make sure whatever new finish you are applying will not be affected from using this product.
Thanks!
