@@DylanSpitzthe colours at river with the dog are straight hollywood movie, like a clint eastwood western. Your colour grading is a different level

You are my new favorite UA-camr. I’d love a photo editing / video color grading course.
Wow, that’s crazy to hear. Thank you so much! Oh and about that course…I’ve been doing some planning 👀
Love the colors ! Awesome job

New subbie and Sony shooter here. Just found your channel. What a joy to see all those amazing images!
Really appreciate it! Thank ya
I really enjoyed this. I lived in Newport for quite a few years before moving to Patagonia, and have been to each of these small towns.
The footage and images looked fantastic. As always great colors!
Oh no way! That’s so cool. Newport is a great little town. Thanks for the compliment, really glad you enjoyed everything!
Amazing coloring job!❤

ahh love to hear it! Thank you.
absolutely beautiful captures.
Thank you so much 🙏
Beautiful shots man
Super kind, appreciate you!
Very Honest review... Thankyou for sharing !
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching 👊
Don't really get why people are so quick to bash "Sony color science"..it has definitely gotten better over time..haha this topic of "color science"..Canon, Fuji, Sony..etc..its all relative..the way I see it..if you spend time and become a good "editor" you can easily match or come close to other "brands" color science..and find what you like and being able to convey your intentions with your photo....being a good editor is as important as the creative part of photography and the art in general..
what a vibe those old cars!! the results you get was pretty awesome like always
I was pretty excited about all the old cars that day! Very fun to shoot. I’d probably agree that the Fuji is easier to get better colors, even when the results can end up being the same with a bit more time on the Sony. So there’s a value in that, for sure.
amazing color grading. I got this camera today and hope to be able to stellar results like yours!
Hope you enjoy it! Thanks for the kind words.
As a Sony user I love this video. :D Love my A7R V and A7IV, amazing cameras!!!
Right on! Thanks for watching.
Super photography i think i will buy one A7RV SO COOL THANK YOU SO MUCH.
Ayyy appreciate you! Thanks for watching and enjoy yourself out there 🤘
Thanks for this video! :)
Thank YOU
These images were stunning
Means so much to hear that, thank you!
The film vibe is awesome!
Ayy thank you!
Loved this, especially the cars, wish we had something like this in Ireland.
Glad you enjoyed it! Maybe you’ll stumble into something similar out there one day 🤞
Crazy colorgrading bro🤯
Thank you 🙌
The cars!!! Omg! I’m working on a project/photo book and those oldies would be perfect. I’m actually considering a drive down there just to photograph them 🤓.
Ps dope video man! You really have an eye for composition and tones 👍🏼👍🏼.
Thank you! And you should gooooo it’s so much fun out there.
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for making this. I miss simple videos like this.
I love my A7RV. It does everything I need it to do really well. I'm cautiously optimistic that Sony will add the ability to load LUTs, dynamic stabilization from the ZV-E1, and aspect markers from the A7CII/A7CR. I've been a Pro Mist user for years, but thinking of switching to Glimmer Glass or something else that doesn't lose out on contrast as much as the PM.
Really glad you enjoyed it! Cool to hear you’re enjoying the A7RV, I had the mk III back in the day and it got me through a lot of gigs, so I can only say I’ve had positive experiences with the Sony bodies overall. My A7SIII would sure benefit from those updates 😂
Far out man, this whole video and every aspect of it is sooo aesthetically pleasing 👏🏼 I have the Sony A7RV and clearly have no idea how to use it to get images like this 😂
Ah thank you!
The whole video was nice but the grading is perfect man! Good job! I’d love to know what you use.
Thank you! I grade in resolve. No specific luts or anything.
The Chevelle shot is great: timeless, retro, contemplative. The fly is a bonus lol
Thank you! Haha the fly was definitely a nice surprise 😅
Great content! Pls make another one reviewing the fujifilm gfx 50sii :)
Thank ya! You never know I suppose! I’d love to try that camera out sometime 😃
Nice review and stellar work as always D! I didn’t think sunlight existed in the PNW except for sun rise and sunsets! Good to know 😂
Bahahaha yeah it’s only crappy weather when you’re here 😂
@@DylanSpitz 😂😂😂
Dammmn , ur vids like a breath of fresh air, lovin it. +1 to comment about editing 🙏🙏
Really means so much to hear that, cheers!
Nice calming trip to abandoned buildings. Love the vegetation growing though cars. One observation is that no company can make a camera or product that satisfies everybody. Some scream when there is no super flippy screen, others scream because there is a super flippy screen. So many crybabies. But at least the sensible can make a choice. For me, the a6700 more than fits the bill of a do everything camera. I'm almost ready to jump back to my Nikon F2 and FE2 except for the prices of film and getting back to working with chemicals. That was for last century.
Incredible 😍
Too kind 🙏
Holy shit dude, your color grading is nuts, definitely subscribing and looking forward to a tutorial
Thank you! 🤘
No need to point out little imperfections, you make awesome videos and don’t owe anyone an explanation.
Artsy stuff, internet stranger.
Really appreciate that, thank you for the kind words!
Wow really love the start video gorgeous! if possible would love to know which lense/lenses you were rocking here? Thanks!
Hey thanks! This was all with the Sony 24-70 2.8 GM ii 🤘
@@DylanSpitz thanks so much mate!
Of course!
I think my favorite thing to do 35mm ff cameras is to use the brenizer thingy and shoot like 9-15 photos to make an image loom like its been shot on a 6 by 7, 6 by 9 camera. Full frame medium format still. GOD I MISS PHOTOGRAPHY
Hey, this is really a wonderful video!
Everything in the video except the fuji stuff has used the a7RV? Including the videos.
I'm a bit confused that the description saying a7siii as the video cam!
Also where did you find the music for your videos? And do you add film grains to your photos and videos?
Hey there! Thanks for the kind words. Here are your answers:
Everything including the video was shot on the A7RV for this one (it was a rental though, only had it for a few days). The talking portion of the video was shot with my personal camera, the A7SIII, after the A7RV was already returned.
The intro montage music I made myself. The others throughout the video are from epidemic sound.
Yes, I add film grain to my photos and video! Not a ton, but enough to rough it up a tiny bit and add some texture.
I just broke my fx3, so... I'm gonna try and see if my A7RV can keep up. Excited to get going with it and see if I can just stay within one system for the work I do.
Oh man! Bummer...time to flex that creative energy though - nothing you can't conquer with that setup. 💪
Loving your Apollo and Adams in the background! :D. Looking to possibly upgrade my A7IV for the A7RV... primarily to get the reach I'm looking for in Crop Mode. Also looking into the X-H2... such a great eco-system for our whole family. Thoughts on the X-T5 AF vs. the Sony? Thanks for the review! Edit: Just saw your section of the X100V shots... they were beautiful. What would you miss most of only using an X-T5 (X-H2)?
Thank you! X-T5 AF is pretty great but still not close to the Sony as far as hit rate and real time tracking with quickly moving subjects. On a paid shoot with a lot on the line, I’d never choose the Fuji over the Sony. With that said, for casual personal stuff it’s great.
I'm pretty new to video work - is the pro mist enough for stopping down to lower your shutter speed? Or do you have to use an ND and the pro mist together? I feel like it would be hard to hit the 1/50th @ 24fps with the sunlight you had on this trip?
Beautiful work as always - really enjoy listening to your process.
Hey, thanks for the love! To answer your question - no, the pro mist lowers contrast a tiny bit but not exposure. I used a 1-5 stop variable ND filter for the video and removed it while shooting photos.
Beautiful video man 😍, which lens you used on A7R5 for video?
Thank ya! The 24-70 2.8 GM II 🫶
The colors of your work are so amazing. Do you use a LUT for video or do it all by hand? If it’s a LUT I gotta know which one
Thanks Caleb! I do it all by hand in resolve. 🤘
@@DylanSpitz good to know! Time for me to learn resolve haha
Found this channel/video while researching cameras, but I couldn't help noticing those patch cables in the background, you're clearly into music too! UAD interface, A7x Monitors, and a modular euro rack in the back, are you planning to make any videos about music or just photography? 😛
Haha! You know your stuff 🫶👏 - If I do, it would probably be on another channel. But you never know! I do make all the music for the intro montages on this channel though ❤️
🖤
Amazing locations. Eastern Washington State is top on my bucket list. PNW is the best.
Glad you enjoyed it! It is beautiful country, absolutely worth a visit.
This guy shoots cars. Great framing 👌
Ahh really appreciate that!
Thank you
Thank YOU!
You should try the G9ii, would be a much smaller package overall. Could be a really nice solution for on the go stuff.
Right on! Never looked into that line - I’m pretty much up to give anything a shot. Really fun trying out different cameras. 📸
Hello, thank you for sharing your tips! I have one question, can you put these your filters together in same lens? 👋🏼
Yes, you can stack them! (thread one into the other). If you do more than two, you might want to get a filter with a larger diameter than your lens and use step up rings to avoid vignetting.
@@DylanSpitz Thats a gold info! Thank you alot! Greetings from Croatia
You really found some beauty there. I lived in Spokane would not recommend to anyone I know ever
Hahahahahaha you nailed it. Can’t wait to move, planning on it soon 🤣
Please consider doing a tutorial on color grading your video or photos!
👀👀👀
Amazing video! Do you have any thoughts on the A7rV vs The A7iv?
Thanks so much! I think the IV is probably incredibly powerful and the better choice for most hybrid shooters, especially for the cost. However, I have not used one personally so I can’t say that with 100% certainty. Sony has been killing it in recent years. Hard to pick a bad camera.
@@DylanSpitz thanks for the prompt response. I think the only two things I would enjoy is being able to crop more in post and the tilt screen, but for another $1700 or so after tax not sure if that’s worth it.
You have any Luts on your site? Only saw Lightroom presets
Not yet but 👀
Really nice stills documenting those awesome cars. But none of these stills require AI AF. I'll subscribe.
Thanks! Yeah, the only thing that the AF was handy for was the dog, really. It did a great job with that.
Thank you for this review
I would like to ask you what is your opinion between two camera - SONY A7SIII ----- SONY A7RV ----
I'am really want to buy a camera at this moment and i'am not sure which one is better for video and photos at the same time
I think the SONY A7SIII is better about the 120 FPS 4k but the A7RV IS ONLY 60FPS 4K ---- do you think is it a problem of that
thank you for your time
Either are great - really this decision is about whether you shoot client work or projects that require a superior video camera with very high slow motion performance or do you require a superior photography camera? There is no absolute best choice for both sides in my opinion.
So in the end, you still preffer the fuji x100v + sony a7siii combo? Nice video!
For now, yeah! I’m still debating what I want to change about my setup - everything feels like a compromise (even keeping it the way it is). Thanks for the compliment! Glad you enjoyed the video
Did you only rely on the IBIS for the video shots or you added post stabilization?
Mostly just IBIS! There were a couple shots that needed a bit of help in post, but not many.
The PNW views are incredible.
Such a beautiful part of the world!
At this point you might as well sell some LR presets I’d buy them. Your style of edit is very much in right now.
Thanks for that! I might be up to something 👀
Looks like Dehancer. Didn't realize the colors would be almost like Fuji.
No Dehancer here, just Lightroom and Resolve, respectively. Colors were really nice to work with overall. 👌
5:30 did you take that part of video with A7r 5 or A7s 3 ?
A7R5. All the b-roll is the A7R5
I had the RIV and sold it due to the colour science believe it or not. It was always an uphill battle in Lightroom with the raw images, I’d get weird colour shifts and apparently I’m not alone in this. My A7 IV is great, almost Canon ish.
I am selling my a7iv to upgrade to the a7cii. So sad Sony is not giving firmware updates:(
Did you use some kind of ND filter for video clips or just crank down your aperture?
1-5 stop variable ND - removed it to shoot photos, put it back on for video.
How are you getting Sony to look this good??!!! Wow
It’s always been this good, at least as long as I used it
Haha thanks! Just following my eyes 👀
wish sony made a camera with orange phosphorescent color :) markings
Ahhh that would be awesome, haha.
Mate I want to buy a camera this month, should I buy the Sony a1 or a7rv or wait for the a9iii , I want to shoot events, sports and street photography
I guess I saw this too late to help with an answer but I really loved using the A7RV and am still on the fence about buying one…it was really really nice.
thanks
Whats the video image quality like vs the a7siii?
It is pretty easy to match them, but the RV definitely has more noise at base iso in slog3 because of its higher mp sensor. If you have plenty of light it’s not an issue, but worth noting for lower light situations. It also seems to have a bit different color science - leaning more magenta than the SIII, which I actually don’t like. Detail wise, there’s no real-world difference to me. The SIII is still the champ for me, but that’s more just a testament to how great that 12mp sensor is for video.
looks an amazing camera as for putting filters on Sony lenses to soften them up , really makes me giggle.. just buy a samyang lens you get amazing rendering without a filter 😎
Haha, I understand where you're coming from. My mindset is: have the clinical sharpness because some of my client work requires it, then reduce it for character when I have the creative freedom to do so.
@@DylanSpitz I like that
I think should stop releasing the A7R and A7S lineup without stacked sensors. A7 is a budget/entry-level so it's understandable. The cost shouldn't be crazy as we're moving to global shutter now.
I agree with the colors not mattering especially if you shoot raw, I say the same thing. I will say though, it really becomes an issue when you try to push colors with the video files and the 8bit really starts to show it's downfall.
Oh yeah, 10-bit is the only way to go for serious color grading. Thankfully the A7RV has really nice 10-bit codecs
@@DylanSpitzyou know what’s funny, watched this entire video thinking this was on the a7riv until your comment hahaha.
Was the video shot with the A7RV as well or the A7SIII/something else?
Yes, it was on the A7RV.
@@DylanSpitz Oh damn nice! A lot of that is your excellent color grading but the fact that I couldn't really tell if it was the A7SIII or that kinda tells me that would be more than good enough for what I want to do. Thanks!
Thanks for the compliment! Yeah, it’s very very good unless it’s a super low light situation. Overall probably the best camera I’ve used.
what song is playing in the introduction?
I wrote it for the video ❤️
brother you ought to upload it
I think a pro camera should have a screen that does everything like the a7rv screen does
A lot of people love it! I just never have needed to turn the camera towards myself on a shoot.
3 months since you uploaded this and still no grading tutorial...The universe testing me it seems. Hmm..
The universe works in mysterious ways 😅
@12:42 this is honestly only a problem for those who don’t have the adequate knowledge and skill in regards to color science, grading and editing.
Nothing wrong with that… but it’s on us to be able to get the image we want any any skilled colorist (like yourself… Holy MaCowRoni, your color man ✅) can get the look they want, regardless of the camera.
Ah thank you so much for the compliment 🫶
Wait, so did you rent it?
yup! 0:49
9:37 the last of us
OK I SEE IT
🤣zombie apocalypse incoming
Definitely a crafting station in that garage
Hahaha! Good work man! All the best 👍🏽
Can Sony look this good?😂
Hahaha top tier compliment right there. Thanks 😂
get GFX100II
I’d love one but I’m not dropping the cash on that 🤑
i know people will bash me for this. but i somehow never liked the color science and IQ of sony cameras. it never encouraged me for shooting. it appears to be very digital, the photos and videos, and the ultra clean picture quality seems very inorganic to me. i may be wrong but thats me. BTW i loved your photos!
