Which camera brand are shooting with at the moment? 😍
I have just purchased the Canon 5D iv and a Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 to add to my gear. I love the look and feel of the images coming from that camera. Most of them I don't even touch in post. The raw files are beautiful. I almost went mirrorless, but I have wanted the 5D iv from the time I started shooting and it has not disappointed. Maybe when my business takes off, I will make the switch, Thanks for your wonderful advice!
I am shooting with my Canon 5D Mark II. It is old but I know it like the back of my hand. Most of my projects I have time to complete. I am serious thinking about changing over to Sony. Since, I love your photography and video style. 💯🔥
Canon EOS R5 :) and you should try it as well, because some of the stuff you described missing for Canon was related to DSLR, but not to mirrorless. Color science - you always used only Adobe color calibration so that is why you don´t see any major differences in color science, but Canon has their own profiles. Sony does not. But either way, it really does not matter what camera you use, in the end, it is photographer who creates photos :) and presents it the way he wants to.
Fuji X-H2 feels much more premium quality in the hand than Sony a 7 iv just now been and checked out a sony
I am a real estate and Head Shot photographer and I shoot with a Canon R! I have an RP for backup and I do walk around Street Photography with a CANON M50. My lenses include EF 24-7 EF 16-35 EF 70-200 RF 85mm RF 50mm
I ran a camera rental company for over 35 years. During that time I got to use Canon, Nikon, Sony, Hasselblad, Phase One and Fuji.
Frankly I came to the conclusion that unless your shooting high end fashion or close-up food the camera was irrelevant they all now produce outstanding results. I owned personally the Canon EOS 5DS that was fifty megapixels, I changed to the R5 which is 45 megapixels and I use the Fuji GFX 100 II which at 102 megapixels is sheer overkill.
What’s far more important is lenses not camera bodies. The lenses that Sony make in the G Master range especially the primes are fantastic and they are the “real” difference not the camera. Same is true with both Nikon and Canon for instance the Canon RF 28-70mm f2 is quite possibly the best zoom lens ever made for professional photographers (not so great for video without IS and its weight). Canon now also has the RF 24-105mm f2.8L a video centric lens that’s also a great still lens.
Anyway back to my original point. It doesn’t matter if you pick Sony, Canon, Nikon, Fuji GFX etc. they all provide fantastic professional results WITH the right lenses.
Totally agree - It doesn't really matter how good your camera is, (while you can still get a 'good' photograph), if you use a 'poor' lens, you will only get 'poor' image quality.
And that I think is probably the biggest difference between Canon and Sony - lens choice, and what you have to pay for a certain level of image quality. The likes of Tamron and Sigma prove that you can get good IQ for a 'good' price. With Sony...
Agreed, I am a hobbyist photographer and started with Sony back in 2007, i was in California in 2014 visiting a friend and his family, his kids were heavily involved in water polo, especially the son who was a high calibre player, so the coach asked if could take pictures of the games that week and i said yes and reminded him that I am just a hobbyist and had bought a new Sony A77 mark2 which was a really nice camera and for sports could shoot 20fps up to 60 frames then it would buffer for a few seconds, I was able to rent a Sony 300mm F2.8 in the A-mount series like my camera for the week through the local school board at a discounted rate, that lens was amazing fast accurate AF, tack sharp and shooting in short bursts i got results to this day i couldn't replicate, i did not ask for any money, i did it for the experience and gave all the photos i took to the coach, even the bad ones for him to delete , he was really quite happy and so was i, that lens did all the work, i just pushed the button and it was all outdoors , i believe i was really fortunate to get to do this, i would love to own that lens, it is just out of my range, I do like the new Sony A74 and 200-600mm i have now, it is very functional and has nice video capability 👍I like to learn
I just switched also from Canon to Sony - from Canon 6D Mark II to Sony A7CR. So after many years with Canon switched to bigger resolution 61MP and I did buy Sony FE 24-70 F2.8 GMII - and this combination is incredible ;-)
Big love and thank you for sharing with us your experience ♥
The prints you can make with 61 megapickles it’s incredible, happy to see another video Laura big love from the PNW
What a heart-felt review, thank you for taking the time to show us the why and how, I truly appreciate it. I also switched from Canon to Sony, and I have not looked back.
I love your review!!! Thank you!!
I am happy to hear you like the Sony Camera, I had Canon for many years, 5 years ago I switched to Sony, so now I use two 61 megapixels (which I also often use in APSC crop mode), my Lenses which I can recommend are Sony 14mm 1.8 GM, Zeiss Loxia Distagon 21mm 2.8 T* (bought as open boxed for half price !), Sony 24mm 1.4 GM, Sony Carl Zeiss Sonnar 35mm 2.8 T* ZA (bought used for US $215 taxes included), Voigtländer APO-Lanthar 35mm 2.0 Aspherical, Sony Zeiss Sonnar 55mm 1.8 T* ZA, Voigtländer Macro APO-Lanthar 65mm 2.0 Aspherical, Zeiss Batis Sonnar 85mm 1.8 T, Voigtländer Macro APO-Lanthar 110mm 2.5, Sony 135mm 1.8 GM and Sigma 500mm 5.6 DG DN OS Sports. I am a bit tempted to try Fuji GFX 100II and Hasselblad X2D, but I think I stay with Sony because I like the smaller size and the lower weight for hiking.
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. 😍 I think is good to work mainly with one camera system. But we can always get another camera just to satisfy our curiosity. 🫠 I also want to tray both Fuji and Hasselblad one day.
Greetings Laura! Thank you for sharing your experiences with the Sony A7RV. More importantly, thank you for your continued support and encouragement!
You’re most welcome! I’m so glad to know that you liked this video and you feel the encouragement. 🥰 Sending you loads of love from this side of the world! 🫶🏼🌴
Enjoyed watching this video. Your advice about choosing what is right for you and your own needs makes so much sense. Reviews are helpful, once you understand that. 😊
Love this s breakdown
informative content Thanks Laura.
Thank you so much John! ❤️
insightful video as usual Laura. I can see why you made the change to the Sony A7RV with its better video performance. I use Canon EOS 5DIV, EOS 6D, EOS 7DMk2 & EOS M100. I'm a Stills Photographer & don't shoot video apart from the odd clip. No rush to upgrade yet but the proposed EOS R5 Mk2 sounds interesting.
You absolutely nailed it with this whole review. I agree 100% with every point you make.
I came from a 12mp APS-C Nikon DSLR to the A7RV; and it puts a smile on my face every time I use it.
The full-frame sensor is glorious. The IBIS has changed my life. The color is (surprisingly) excellent.
61mp is too much; but I. Don't. CARE!!! When you put good glass on this camera, the images just make you want to cry (in a good way).
When I made the switch last December, I was a little nervous that it was the right choice. But Sony is exactly what I want right now; and their budget for innovation will only result in more outstanding break-through features in the years to come.
I love your videos. I love your work. And I very much appreciate your opinions on this subject.
Cheers!
Laura, Nice to see that, You have come a long way now in your photography journey😊 You have produced very nice images and videos👌 As a viewer I would love to see your skills on Nikon Camera body! Try your hands on Nikon cameras for some time and let us updated! Keep inspiring us 💯 Keep it up and All the best 👍Thank you
Personally I made the same switch from Canon (after 22 years) to Sony but I did it already in 2016 when the alpha cameras weren't as good as today !
The reason why I switched was because of the size and weight of my EOS 5D MkIII and 5DsR and also because I was able to use my L lenses with my Sony bodies at the beginning !
I have used an A7M2, two A7R2, an A7M3, an A6500 and A6600 since 2016 and since 2022 I have two A7R3(A).
With the time, I became used to the system and frankly I could not imagine myself shooting for serious jobs without my alpha gear, mostly because the AF is insane, I shoot RAW so the color grading was never an issue and today the lens selection for E-mount is simply the best !
The most important for my image qualité expectations is which lenses I'm able to use and in 2024 Sony users have even too many options, I mean... Really great options from different brands !
Today I still use my trusty A7R3(A) and I recently purchased a B cam, the A6700 which I mostly use with my Full Frame lenses !
I've even shot a portrait session with my 6700 and the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG DN. The pictures coming out of this combo looks absolutely mind blowing !!!!
Having tested the AF with my 6700 now I'm about tu buy two A7RV so I'll be set for many years, because I'll never need more than 61mp and I don't need more than 10 fps shooting !
Your video makes me think I'm making the right decision ;-) Thanks !!!
The a7R V is seriously underrated for hybrid work. I covered a wedding in direct sunlight and the a7s iii overheated while a7r V was a champ. After that I just relied on the a7r V for full-time video when I was in the Mojave desert.
These videos just get better and better 😊
Thank you so much Marcus! 🥹❤️
Laura I have the old Sony A7RII and even though its old. I dont regret getting this camera. 42.4MP full-frame, 4K movie recording with full pixel readout and no pixel binning.
Also, I had Canon before, so another advantage you have with adapter, works like native. The key thing that made me switch compatibility. Being able to use Canon lenses, Sigma and Sony.
I can imagine, how good yours is 61MP.
I still use an a7RII aswell! It's still a beast of a camera especially with a good prime on it like the ziess batis range
@@emoslayer1987 To be honest, people who say MP is just for people who want to print large photos. That is not the case at all. Maybe its just me, but MP in a camera means
more than just large prints. I have a 4K monitor LG, I have taken pictures with a 12MP, 18MP, 24MP and my 42.4MP. There is a big difference when looking at an image overall,
the higher MP cameras, offer better quality picture overall, without even zooming you can see it. Maybe if you post on instagram or facebook, maybe would not make a difference. But turst me, people who say MP dont mean anything or is not important, its only for "large prints" dont know what they talking about. The qualities the A7RII gives overall, its amazing, the overall picture is sharp, its less pixelated, there are alot of differences. When I load a 12MP image, 24MP and considering my monitor is 4K you can see all the artifacts and noise and so forth. Its like saying you dont need 4K monitor 1080p is enough. Sure it is, but nobody can deny a 4K quality is supperior to a 1080p, its just that some people dont want to use it. But with that being said, saying to people you dont need 4K or more MP is just beyond me.
@@amybella exactly, I use a 4k monitor myself and you notice the difference between raw files from the A7R2 and say the a7ii which I've had before! The extra megapixels allow for more aggressive cropping which is really handy for macro or if you need to reframe a shot!
Hi!!! Great video my friend!!! I love listening to your energetic accent! I have the Sony a7rv. I have shot with Nikon, and Canon! The a7r5 is a dream to shoot with! I've been with Sony now for about 8 years! I enjoyed the other brands for the years that I used them! For now I'm enjoying the Sony experience. I shoot landscapes and wildlife. Lol I don't do video!
As always, listening to you is an inspiration :)
Thank you so much! 😊❤️
Great to see you in Bali! What computer specs do you have in order to process 61mp photos?
I just got mine last week.. I do underline each words by Laura, it is a brilliant camera..
Awwww congrats!! I remember how excited I was when I got it. I’m glad you agree with me. Enjoy it! 📸❤️
Thanks for your feedback! I'm still on Canon
Love the video Laura, I have to say that my old Cannon EO5 Rebel works great for me. Just being an amateur and my photos of my wildlife and hunting property are only for me maybe I will upgrade someday but for now, my camera is smarter than its operator LOL and I am very loyal.
Good to here, also making a slow transition to Sony from Canon. Picked up an A7CR and the 24mm G as a compact setup. Really love it and now have been drawn into changing systems 🙂🙂🙈
24mm GM or 20mm G?
@@BoyarsMedia 24mm G the small one.
Laura I like what you said about 61 MG is for more than just printing, I have never heard anyone give those other reasons you gave. Nice balanced video, very cool. I shoot Sony A1 & A7Siii.
Yes, this is often overlooked. With the Sony 20-70G on the A7R5 you effectively get a 20-105mm @ 61-26Mpix. Canon offer NOTHING like this. (And I'm a Canon user...)
[It is also one of the reasons the Fuji 100Mpix bodies are so useful to landscape photographers. Re-format (crop) to 5:4, 1:1, 16:9... and always have plenty of resolution.]
Thanks for sharing your experience. I am a sony fan and have the following combination of lenses with my Sony a7R5 and sony a7c, Sony 24mm 1.4, Sony 50mm f1.8, Sigma 24-70 f2.8, So y 70-200 f2.8, Sigma 100-400, Sony 90 mm Macro, Sony 200-600. I love my these both sony cameras and Sony and Sigma combination of lenses
I really enjoy your videos and practical advice. Do you print your own photos or do you send them to a lab. If the latter, which print lab do you use?
Thankyou ❤❤
I had canon also but ended up giving all my canon gear to a missionary friend of mine and I switched over to Sony also and now have this camera and the 70-200mm 2.8 ii and the Sony 200-600mm lens with the 1.4 and the 2x converters for the external reach when I need it here in Alaska and picked up the Viltrox 16mm 1.8 for my wide angle shots and had to get the Sony battery grip with five extra batteries but I don’t do photography for a living just a hobby that I’ve been doing for over thirty five years lol but loving this gear and needing to get more lenses
A great video. I shoot with the A7r IV and the A7 IV coming from 25 years with Nikon.
After..! After..! in the start ❤
I think a camera is just a tool. The key is how you use the tool 😉. Of course, the new technology makes a photographer's life a lot easier. It's interesting to see what equipment you work with. I like your Sigma 105mm the most. Unfortunately, there is no way to mount filters without a lot of effort. And because you only use 1/250 flashes with the Sony a7r v, I wonder how you plan to work on a sunny day with an open aperture of f 1.4. Like you, I often use the Sony 70-200mm gm II. A fantastic lens! What I can also highly recommend is the Sony 90mm macro f2.8. With it, you can take beautiful macro photos of the wonderful diversity of Bali's nature. I look forward to future photos/videos from you, dear Laura!
I'm newer to photography, and am quickly learning how expensive it is. I have been doing research on lenses for about 5 months now. I got a 28-70mm kit lens for my Sony a7IV which I initially thought was a great lens until I found out it was just an average lens. I'm looking to save some money on lenses, and I have decided to purchase the Tamron 35-150mm F2-2.8. It basically covers the 2 lenses you already have, and the lens you want to buy for significantly less money than what you would end up spending. All of the big name photographers that have tested it out have loved it because it gives you the same quality pictures of the 24-70, and the 70-200 by spending way less money, and you only have to carry around 1 lens. I was shocked when I found this lens that wasn't a constant aperture of 4 or a variable aperture and covered such a wide focal range.
Hi Laura! Thank you so much for this video! I am a long-time Canon shooter (over 20 years) and my number one issue now is weight. My hands and elbows struggle after using these bodies and lenses for so long. Is the Sony setup with the 70-200 noticeably lighter than the Canon setup with 70-200?
Great video!! Great camera!! I wish you would try the Fujifilm gfx 100ii for portraits it’s the next level up in quality although I have the Fuji camera and I’m also want to buy a Sony r v camera or wait for the canon r5ii
Thank you so much! I’m glad you liked the video! I can’t wait to try Fuji one day so who knows! 😍 For now I’m very happy with the Sony A7RV. But happy to try other brands to satisfy my curiosity. 🫣
More Megapixels means also a very small granulation compared with the size of the photo, so a better quality at high ISO, which is crucial for events, concert, etc.
Hey Laura, did I even know you changed to Sony? I am not sure I did. I changed from Panasonic M43, loved the GH5 as I am sure there are things you loved about Canon as well.
I do have to say though for my eyes I like Fuji colour science and Canon the most overall & Sony is a 3rd but not a deal breaker at all. ...it is just a little thing. How did you find the colour science of Sony coming from Canon?
I really like you channel & your work. Who know when I am in Bali next probably will come my lots of my gear and my Sony buddy with even more gear so we could may play, and share knowledge etc. Keep making great content b/c you do!!
Thank you for your detailed review and the revelation of your HONEST EMOTION. Many video professionals complain the video created by Sony A7RV has unacceptable amount of NOISE in the shadows compared with other Sony cameras that has lower resolution. Do you have this problem? Thanks again.
I still use the old A7RII and that camera is still a workhorse of a machine! 42MP of pure sharpness! Coupled with the the ziess primes i use at the moment it takes some amazingly sharp photos
Hi Laura, I have been using Sony A7R5 for 6 months and loving it so much. The menu is very intuitive so switching over from Nikon to Sony was a breeze! I don’t think I will go back to Nikon as there are so many 3rd party lenses for Sony compared to Nikon!
So what I’m hearing you say, Laura, is get the same gear you have…
Hahaha. I’m totally kidding of course 😛
The sharpness from the photos you shared is incredible. Thanks and Hugs! 🤗🥰
Can you make a video regarding your archiving system? Bc such huge files needs a lot of storage and I really want to know how you manage it. Thank you in advance 😊
I'm moving 20+ TB of photos in a video I'll be posting soon. The best people to ask are in IT who can tell you why JBOD NAS enclosures are the best choice. Pro tip, DO NOT convert to DNG with cRAW.
Can you do a video about your preset settings and stuff
Best video i saw today 😊😊😊😊
Awww thank you so much Phil! I hope you’re keeping well! 😍
@@LauraBC yes thankyou buddy I am x
@@LauraBC hey Laura, I have just been and checked out the A7 iv it felt really cheap and plasticky compared to my fuji xh2 not impressed at all
Wirhout process the photos can u tell me with camera best now i am using sony A1
About 24-70, actually. I have an a7riii, and only zoom I use is Sigma 24-70 2.8 DG DN Art, it’s way cheaper, than G series, and for my 42 megapixels - it’s more, than enough of lens. If you ever met a chance to try it - do not hesitate.
Ps - thanks for the great videos, Laura, I really enjoy them
Cheers
Agreed 61MP is too many, so does 45! Why did you choose Sony over a Canon R5?
Hi very nice channel you have :)
I left sony for Canon, i think the R5 is the best camera ever made. The Canon colors are better and easier to edit especially for people (i cant spend hours editing someones skin tone, its such a hassle), the details are also more elegant, look at the animal and nature photos from Canon, all the macro photography and all the fashion and portraits. the Video is also immaculate. but Sony may have an advantage with being more efficient for video better battery and no overheating etc. BUT not better quality. Canon is just still unmatched. BTW I still own around 7grand is Sony lenses so either I will sell them and buy the new Canon camera thats coming out or maybe I will buy a second body for sony solely for video. I stopped looking for new gear after the R5 ( i dont even know how many new cameras came out and i dont even look at reviews on youtube anymore lol), its perfect and if you want to compare, just go into BH or any camera store and grab an R5 and a 85 1.2 RF lens and take a photo, you will immediately see why Canon is still king... I don't think anyone can argue. even an amateur can take professional photos with the 85 1.2 rf lol its cheating.
just gained a new subscriber. probably the best real world video on the canon to sony switch I've seen.
I switched from canon a decade ago as they were not interested in mirrorless nor in the technological potential. They were still stuck in the slr to dslr mode. The sony was creating new sensors from extreme resolution to light sensitivity & improving its processing power and ibis. The platform is open so it allows an entire realm of different kinds of lens development. I updated from the sony a7r4 to the 5 for better ibis - video - evf screen. The 61mp sensor gives each lens the possibility of having more reach. So I have a 50-400mm tamron which gives a 600mm reach on aps-c but even otherwise I can transform the original image in many different ways. It is also excellent for animation as 1 frame can give a series of 4k images that one can use as a pan. As to the myth of color science it is very unscientific. The sensor on the raw level is recording a plethora of light frequencies & it is a question of how one processes them and for what purpose. One can use the in camera + software processing. The ibis is incredible - I have taken images at 0.13 of a second handheld of intricate architecture. Then the EVf & screen are the best that I have used. The camera also makes for an excellent hybrid camera and it is easy to connect with android devices for remote monitoring & image/video transfer also vis a vis a cable. Hence I don't need a laptop but can use a 12.7 inch tablet. The lens eco system is highly developed and also the possibility to adapt vintage glass. And there are lots of quality options to G master glass
👍🏼 🥰 Sony 7rii! y me encanta!
Why did you changed to Sony if you could use R5 or R6, or even R5C? I was about to switch to Sony until I tried the R6... Have two units and will only switch to a new R5 ii, but to be honest R6 is enough for everything!
I think the AI chip in the A7RV and A7CII don't get enough credit. I've seen them nail white balance so well to where I would put them as one of the best colour wise out there.
Hola, tienes canal en español? Saludos
Laura! espera al 24-70 f2...que está al caer!

An other great video! You made a very good choice with Sony!
I was just about to switch to Sony when the fate said NO to me!
I got a huge opportunity to give a hands on a Nikon Z9, before I could even switch brand, and I am very happy with it.
One old photographer enthusiast unfortunately passed away in my area, and the people who were selling his equipment they offered me his equipment for less than half price with all his equipment (lights, lenses and the Z9).
I couldn’t be happier when they said I can buy the camera, because I thought that they will sell to someone else, but as they already know me they kept it till I made the decision to buy it. After I got it I can’t wish better camera than my Z9! Incredible for photography (45.6mp) and such a gorgeous performer for video.
I think I got a sign from the life to stay with Nikon, to go for this and help on my journey as a photographer. I absolutely love it, and feel so lucky with this
R6II so far color beats Sony but Sony has this ultra sharpness I guess due to the megapixel of 61 MP.
🌟 Laura, your journey from Canon to Sony is truly inspiring! As someone who's on the fence about switching, your insights are golden. 📸 Your honesty and detailed experience really illuminate the pros and cons. I'm curious-what feature of the Sony A7RV surprised you the most compared to your Canon gear?
Thanks for sharing your expertise! 🙌

Hi Wise! Thank you so much! I’m so glad to know that you enjoyed this year review. 😍 The most surprising about my camera after I switched was without any doubt the amount of settings I could play with! The menus may be overwhelming at the beginning but you get used to it. It’s just amazing to be able to change so many things when shooting. And the amount of different ways to customise my camera is incredible. It makes things way easier. 🥰
🥂
Maybe we will see the Canon R5 II soon. Great thing about Sony is the selection of lenses. Wish the cfexpress cards for Sony mirrorless cameras were more affordable.
I think is time for Canon to release that Cabin R5II I can’t wait to see what they create. 😍 And totally, SD Cards are always painful to buy. 😅
Have you tried R5 with RF glass ? Sony is junk in comparison to R5

Beautiful video. but... but.... HUM Canon is CANON hahaha I have used Canon for more than 30 years and believe me I am very happy with my equipment. Yes, Sony has created master cameras with many possibilities and for any use just like Nikon, Fuji and all the other Japanese industries. Muchas gracias Laura por compartir estos bellos videos!!..
Haha I used to say “Canon is Canon” too. And of course, as I mentioned in the video, I still love Canon. It’s incredible. However, as a content creator, Sony gives me the most versatility and customization options when switching between photo and video settings. 🥰 And a few more things I mentioned in another video about my reasons. I still own all my Canon gear. 🥹 It served me very well for more than a decade. And thanks so much! I’m glad you liked the video.
Just try Nikon
Geeezzz you are not getting bored telling the world u switch to sony from canon? Haha
Let her cook 🔥
@@tulley50 i smell burnt
And you didn't try the Canon mirrorless. That is surprising...
If you would have watched my other videos you would have known that I did. 🤦🏻♀️
I guess after you said you were moving to Sony, I tuned out... sorry about that.
But you switch from canon dslr to mirrorless sony, you didn't try a pro canon mirrorless body, so your review dosnt count, delete the video😅
Who cares ... its a tool. Do great with any tool. I never understood brand loyalty.
I care 🙋🏾♂️
@@RockyMaiviaMiami It will pass. Give it time.
For me it isn't a "loyalty" thing, more of a sunk cost thing (lenses especially).
@@alandargie9358 So you can change it, there will be some cost, but you can change it if you so decide. At the end of the road its just a tool. We are allowed to use all the tools at our disposal, hence my indifference if its this of that tool. Its human that make the difference.
It’s a promotional video by Sony paid video
I wish she could do these in English.
It is in English. Just that she has her original foreign accent. For example the T is pronounced differently
Kinda rude considering she’s speaking English. You apparently lack the brains to comprehend an accent.
I wish you could be less of an asshole about it. If you can't understand her then maybe learn some English.
