    Excellent Video!
    FAVORITE TAKEAWAY:
    Never seen the construction of an orchid stem. It was so Kool to see the vilaments turn green from silver.
    The tiny "wires" inside the stem looked like a 'science fiction' scene because the stem looked like an ⚡ electrical wires from the Home Depot department.
    Thank you!

    Wow! Incredible teacher. Love orchids. They are so delicate so I don’t feel comfortable with all that cutting etc. You make it easier to just go for it with proper care and instructions. I think mine are too dry in fear of over watering. Gracias

    Hi Shirley! Thank you for this information, I love love love your enthusiasm when you're talking about these plants! Also one of the reasons I bought these beautiful plants! So I bought my orchids last august 2020, with two stems and it bloomed beautifully for 5 months until a week or two ago.
    Left stem lost all of its flowers and the whole stem turned yellow/brown, so I cut the left stem off close to the base about an inch above the first eye.
    Right stem is doing alright, still blooming, but slowly losing it's vibrant green color. I have to admit, it has been sitting on the windowsill above the radiator...and it's been really cold here (Amsterdam, Netherlands) and the radiator has been on everyday. The leaves are also very floppy (still very green though!). I checked the roots and they're doing fine and are very green when watered. No root rot.
    So... will the left stem ever grow back or did I just kill my plant by cutting the left stem off? 'Cause I'm not seeing any new spikes :(
    Should I let the orchid sit in a cooler spot and just leave it alone now?
    My boyfriend 'warned' me about getting orchids and I want to prove to him that they're not that high maintenance haha. Please help me out!
    Much love from Europe!

      @EdenMakers  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Zarina, Thanks for watching! Cutting the stem off will not damage your plant and it will grow back. The most important thing is seeing that the roots and leaves are healthy. It sounds like they are except for "floppy leaves". If you notice your orchid's leaves are withered and droopy, this could mean your plant is not getting enough water or humidity. Remember, an orchid's natural habitat is a humid climate so above the radiator might be a bad idea. The ideal spot for growing orchids is either south or east-facing windows. Usually west windows are too hot while northern windows are too dark. Placing it under artificial lights is the last resort if you can't find a good location. Make sure your orchid medium is an orchid bark, if not, repot it. Then water weekly without allowing the water to touch the leaves, allow water to drain through. Follow my instructions on my video about reblooming your orchid here:

      Here is my video on repotting your orchid:

    Hi Shirley. I love your videos.. they're so informative. I received an orchid from my fiance as a gift. I repotted it and now the flowers are wilting.. is there anything I can do to reverse it so the flowers will perk up again and the rest of the buds open? Help please 🥺

    • @EdenMakers
      @EdenMakers  3 роки тому +1

      That's too bad Susie. Rule number one is NEVER repot an orchid when it is flowering. RIght now the orchid is spending energy to form new roots as well as energy to keep blooming. For long term health of the plant, you may want to cut the flower stalks.
      Please watch my two other orchid care videos on how to repot an orchid and how to make an orchid bloom again

      @@EdenMakers hello again. I did cut off the flowers as you suggested.. the leaves are softer instead of as perky as they were and the roots looks a little wrinkly. If you have any specific advice to my circumstance and the time to reply I would be very grateful. Thank you

    I have four orchids and they bloom every year. I was wondering where you purchase your medium for your orchids? It looks more like a shredded type than just chunky medium.

      Hi Georgina, Thanks for watching and congrats on your success with your orchids. I buy from green thumb garden center here in california, but generally a medium to coarse grade bark is best. I have a selection on my amazon page also here:
