    I have 5 phals and I soak them once to every second week depending when the medium is dryish. I have left my orchids in water when I go on vacation and they did just well. As well I have 2 phals in self watering and they love it. I have them in bloom as well as growing roots and new leaves. I guess that you just learn what will work in your environment. I also soak them i lukewarm tea once a month and they are all thriving. Learned a lot from your videos. I guess that one just needs to learn what works in ones own environment. Have a great day.

    A newbie orchid owner here that made a huge mistake and I do not know how to fix it. When the flowers fell off, I mistakenly cut the spikes to the soil level. Now, I do not have any new spikes growing anywhere. Only leaves are remaining with two completely dried old tiny spikes. Can this be rectified, or will the plant never flower again?

    • @dannisorchidjourney

    I was just talking about the just add ice thing with the florist at my local grocery store. She agrees with me as well. :) I stopped giving my orchid distilled water as my first 3 died. I now give them Crazy Water #3 which is the same one I drink. It has natural minerals in it and calcium/potassium. It comes from a Texas spring so I like that even more since I also live in Texas. I even skipped any fertilizer with this one and it is still doing great so far but more testing is needed. Only been a couple of months. That said my other orchids did not survive more than a few months and started showing stress in just a few weeks so I am encouraged how well the fourth is doing. :D - Heidi

    Love this video , it has helped me a lot and my confidence as an orchid owner! I have my first orchid that I truly love and hope I can clone one day - but i was clumsy and well - one of the stems with flowers broke off so I’m missing 3 followers now out of 13. Is it possible to grow anything from the flowers that have broken off if one has a node? My plant has a humidifier near it and indirect sun/air - is there anything else to do to keep it healthy?

    • @dannisorchidjourney
      @dannisorchidjourney  3 роки тому +1

      Hello there! Unfortunately orchids do not propagate like most houseplants. No new plant can come from that flower spike of the flower spike has broken off. Now sometimes a keiki (baby) can grow on a existing flower spike that is still attached to the orchid. It sounds like you’re doing it right, indirect light, airflow, humidity... water it when those roots turn white/silver. If the roots are still green, it doesn’t need watered yet. Happy growing 💜

      The black spots could be a variety of things. The best thing to do is buy Physan 20. It’s going to cover all the bases. Unfortunately the black spots it already has, there is no way to get rid of them. But once you treat it with Physan 20 wait and see what the newest growing leaf looks like (hopefully no black spots)

    I see some great info in your video. However, there is some info. that is not correct. Clay pots are not good. The roots will bond to the pot. Rocks are ok in water /hydro culture,but bark is best in pots. You can mist orchids lightly. Yellow leaves need to be removed.

    • @dannisorchidjourney
      @dannisorchidjourney  3 роки тому

      Hello! Sorry for such a late reply. UA-cam does not do very well with notifying me with comments on older videos. My apologies.
      However, I love using clay pots. Especially since I can be an over water and that is what works best for me most of the time. I understand each grower is different and has their preferred pots and media. Which is great because every growers environment is also different which calls for different growing strategies. I do not do hydro because orchids are epiphytic plants and in long turn will decline when in WC for long periods. Yes, misting orchids is fine, pooling water is not, especially with little or no airflow. And yes, you are correct once a leaf if fully yellow it basically removes itself and falls off naturally, without us pulling on it before it’s ready maybe accidentally causing a wound unnecessarily. Thank you for such a great and engaging comment! Happy growing to you! 💜🥰
