I totally agree. I love my 4 stroke Mantis. I had nothing but trouble with starting my 2 stroke version.

@@CountryHobbyist It did arrive and is saving so much time and my back lol I wish I had bought it sooner! I like the power to weight ratio of this model. I only have two minor complains... 1) I installed the plastic handle as it makes it easier to carry but it vibrates and rubs through the paint adding a potential for rust. 2) I installed the kickstand as it makes it easier to store but again, it vibrates and rubs through the paint adding a potential for rush. Other than that, there are no issues!

@@jonathanrhodes4788 I would agree with both of those things. The one other thing I would note about the kickstand is that I feel like its a necessary evil. I would rather not have it on the tiller but its basically a must to be able to stand keep it stood upright. I also dont think it has great functionality with the folding handles. However, for me, the functionality of the tiller just supersedes any minor complaints I would have.

@@CountryHobbyist My Mantis did not come with the edging attachment. I also weed wack and keep the edge decently clean with no overgrowth. Would you still recommend it?

@@jonathanrhodes4788 Im the kind of person who does not care too much about edging... I normally just use my weed wacker too. Maybe twice a year I will use the edger to clean up my sidewalk but I honestly dont think it is a game changer.

I have rewatched this video and I have no idea what was going through my mind running it this way. I think I just had a better camera angle, the things a guy will do for youtube, even embarrass himself. thanks for the comment and watching!

You edge the right way - beats using a weed eater.
Why do you have the stand just dragging along. Mine doesn’t have a stand and you just sit it up against the building. That stand would drive me crazy.
I had/have a two stroke have to mix oil and gas for 40 years. Never had issues with it until Ethanol. Same for lawnmowers and all other engine products. I loved it. There is one issue I had - is I’m 4’11” and when it got older I had trouble starting it - probably an ethanol issue however someone taller could start it fine. I have really bad shoulders too.
Just draining the mix out isn’t enough with today’s ethanol. Believe me…. My was run dry by the repair shop but I forgot to do the other steps and run a winterizer in a couple years ago - it sat for 3-5 years and unfortunately the gas waterizes over even a few months - so to let it sit 5-6 months or certainly a year+ - I should have done it and I paid with a carburetor that the repair shop says can’t be repaired and now there are no parts for it. It’s 40 years old. I’m still trying to come up with an option. I have talked with Mantis and they sold the last and made no more for this old close to original model.
If you get a 4 stroke, this is what Mantis told me - use True Fuel is the best thing to do, it’s not cheap but these things don’t use much fuel to begin with - the 2 stroke sure didn’t either. At the very least always use an ethanol additive and winterize it per their instructions. Never use ethanol in it for any length of time, not even in a couple of months. It turns to stinky rotten leaves junk by spring. But it’s worth using one of the True fuels (no ethanol). Call them yourselves. I called the manufacturer who owns Mantis. The book probably tells you the same thing.
If you don’t take care of it the way the book says - it’s your fault not the Mantis. Don’t listen to YT wannabe experts who probably don’t know anymore than you do. Listen to the manufacturer. They know how their items are suppose to work and how to keep them working. Mantis is a reputable company and has been around for a long time.
Actually not, if you take your time and use a broad fork like a Meadow Creature prior to tilling, which isn’t like spading, you aren’t turning the soil you are just loosening it. They have a 12, 14, and 16” tine length. It’s not the width it’s the depth of the tines of the broad fork. The 16” is a beast and you need to be fit just carrying it around. I have a 12” and it’s good. You work it and then use the tiller and it’s great. Also I did a lot of green cover cropping or what they call green manures to improve my soils down to about 20-24, tried for at least 18”. With double beds. Not sure I’d do that again only because I’m 70 and that’s for 25-30 year olds like I was. I did some of my areas while everything was wide open. With a large commercial tractor type pull tiller - the ground had never been touch, was compacted from cars etc. and they came in several times. Worked it and I planted cover crops, they came back and retilled, I planted more cover crops etc. and it was a repeat of cover crops all summer, and tall clover and annual rye in the fall, come the weather got cold in December/Jan, cover the bed with premium dairy or horse quality alfalfa and left it til Mothers Day and started the summer process again with legumes, buckwheat, and Dutch clover and when it reached max growth right before bloom and chopped it or tilled it in. Did this for 3 years. Then made the flower bed areas, double dug, worked in rich leaf mold (not bark) and that winter planted dutch clover and annual rye then mulched with nice premium bright green, crumbly alfalfa full of little leaves. Come spring tilled with Mantis and started planting. In some areas I did 4 yrs and planted in the fall. Just depended on what I was planting. Had I had a pair of good horses, would have worked it that way instead of the huge tiller - they are cheaper too and pull logs out of the woods. Once I started regular planting and making beds - I used the Mantis.
It really depends on your soil..
You should never til wet soil - you ruin the soil composition and end up with clay rocks and it doesn’t go a way for years and years. Never ever til wet soil. There are other tools to do that though not for small areas. It’s the same as farmers do to open up the soil in early spring or late spring rains. But they don’t till til the soil is dry.

Thanks for watching. I tend to leave the stand down because it doesn't really get in the way, plus its kind of a pain to put up and down. This is mostly due to me being lazy! Ethanol can sure do a number on a good engine. thanks for sharing so much information.
