    Your right. I try and tell Dan this all the time, lol. I mess up a lot also. Safety is very important and sometimes we forget or overlook that issue. Thanks for letting us know. Something everyone should always look at first before ever operating anything.

    @Pap9 Good point. This is perfect for flower beds and small gardens.

    Yes I agree 2 or 4 will work good in already turned over soil , one bad thing is if you have any rocks and it hits a rock it kick the tiller out , safety option I suppose.

    Hi Copper, Just 87 octane. I use Stabil in all my gas, to keep it fresh.

    Great video, I have a small garden maintenance business here in Dublin and have been looking at one of these for a while but the price here in Ireland is crazy, about 450 euros. i have beds and stuff to keep tidy so im going to get one regardless.
    Thanks for the demo

    its a great product as long as you remember that its a tiller, not a rotovator. I have an allotment and my neighbour rotovates it once a year, from then on, the mantis can cope with everything. In fact I recently bought the deluxe XP extra wide version, which has a larger engine, and is great for larger gardens. I see so many comments about it bouncing about on virgin soil and not digging in. thats not what its supposed to do! Bear this in mind and you wont be disappointed .

    • @johnlochness
      @johnlochness 7 років тому

      I did my allotment by hand in January, the rest of the year, for example when I want to put seeds in, I use my mantis to prepare the soil.

    My friend had to finally get her spark plug changed on her mantis this summer. She's had it for 30 years!

      I dug into my dads shed and found a mantis, I asked him when he got it because it looked like a newer model and he said son I had that thing since 1989 lmao I was stunned because the machine looked like an echo model from maybe 10 years ago

    richard i believe they have an attachment called a thatcher which will bring up the grass my dad has a mantis and they do work as well as spoken about i just ordered the 16 inch 4 stroke!! and ordered an attachment which was like 64 bucks but they give you 50 bucks off if you purchase a couple certain models so i basically got the atytachment for 14 bucks or so great deal!

    Wonder what would have happened if his left shoe lace would have gotten caught by one of those times.

    I have one too and it works great all the time. Yes the 4 stroke is the best.
    I use to use a Troy Built and this is much better with a better engine.
    Im thinking about buying their 16" wide unit aswell.

    Good vid dude. What kind of gas do you use for your tiller? Also, do you add anything to your gas?

    Hmmm,,,4 cycle power heads are designed to be used horizontally due to the oil sump and oil slinger. I wonder the longevity of the engine mounted vertically?

    The 4 cycle doesn't hit a high RPM like a 2 cycle does.

    I love the tiller but have been through three throttles in four years...they cost 36.00 and mantis will not warrant this piece at all....tiller never sits out in th weather at all and I used white lithium grease on it and they still rust in two with only about 20 hours on them....be advised the folks at mantis know about this problem and do not in any way try to help you with any kind of info to prolong the life of the throttle assembly....

    We like to live life on the edge. The Stihl is a joke compared to the Mantis with the Honda Motor.

  • @Jon3800
    @Jon3800 11 років тому

    The mantis is a great product but I wouldn't go as far to say that Stihl's a joke since they have a variety of models that you can fit a tiller attachment to that can offer the same or more power than that Honda (say the 40.2cc fs250r).

    These are NOT MEANT TO BE USED ON VIRGIN GROUND. It's incorrect to market or expect this to work well on hard pack virgin ground. These work best to "freshen up" prior tilled earth.

      Check your spark plugs
      Check the ground on it
      Flush the carb and put new gas in the system.
      Rebuild the carb maybe or replace.

      I find the best use is for making a fine tilth for seed sowing, the problem is though it goes really hard if you walk on it.
      I thought the tines are guaranteed for life, a few of mine have broken, maybe that means they are not covered once their life has gone lol.

    2 glaring SAFETY issues in this video... I would NEVER use this machine wearing shorts. I love my mantis but it can throw debris back at you from time to time. You are asking for a nasty cut wearing shorts. 2. check out the shoe laces and how long they are. Those could get pulled into the machine and you would do some serious damage to your foot. Always wear protective clothing when using any tiller

  • @chrisyolo3791

    First off ,the guy hasnt a clue how to use the machine and secondly why be stupid enough to wear shorts and trainers that have laces overlong that can easily get caught by the machine tines .I use cultivators everyday of the week and the mantis is no match for the stihl combi cultivator ,its too light to stay where you want it and spends more time boucing around .Also as others have said before ,cultivators are only for borders and beds that are all ready in reasonable un compacted state .
