    Shohei hit one 493 feet last year in Anaheim, also his 30th homerun last year. For sure he can clear dodger stadium. Ohtani was a cy young caliber pitcher two years ago, finished fourth.

    Cy Young caliber pitching and MVP level DH in one body. GOAT.

    Having finished 4th in Cy Young voting in 2022, he's already a Cy Young caliber pitcher. I hope he makes a full recovery and returns to the mound for at least another season.

    I used to stop what I was doing when I was a teenager to LISTEN to an at bat by Wille Mays. It was extra special when I was also listening to Vin Scully do the game. Later, I stopped what I was doing to WATCH Willie Mays on TV. I watched him hit a home run off Claude Osteen at Dodger Stadium at a time when he was past his prime. Very cool!

    If he pulls that, it definitely goes out of the stadium. I was there a few weeks ago when he hit one one against the angels it was 455 feet.

      He had one last year 493 in Anaheim. Sea level, not the Colorado advantage.

    Alot of haters were saying he's not a top 10 hitter. If Ohtani was playing in Yankees stadium. You can add more hr's to his total

    I'm not saying he should quit pitching, but he has a 5.5 war as a DH, and that includes defensive adjustment. I'm pretty sure he'd be able to play the outfield and his WAR would be considerably higher

    • @n00btype
      @n00btype 2 місяці тому +4

      LF doesn't bring that much more although he will at least be rid of the DH penalty. The WAR potential of a pitcher easily outweighs the potential war of a shortstop even with DH penalty. If he pitches like he did in 2022 and bats like he did in 2023 or 2024, he could reach 10 to 13 war a year, which pretty much put him in contention for MVP every year especially he and Judge are in different league now.

    • @yamamancha
      @yamamancha 2 місяці тому +2

      It would be sad, but Shohei could quit pitching and go back to playing RF, and, he'd still win another 5 MVPs.

    • @n00btype
      @n00btype 2 місяці тому

      @@moronsaltable from Fangraphs for full season , Catcher: +12.5 runs, First Base: -12.5 runs, Second Base: +2.5 runs, Third Base: +2.5 runs, Shortstop: +7.5 runs, Left Field: -7.5 runs, Center Field: +2.5 runs, Right Field: -7.5 runs, Designated Hitter: -17.5 runs. I'm don't know the actual number impact on WAR, but as you can see, amongst all the positions, catcher has the most dwar adjustment (however, catcher will not play 162 games so the number is inflated). Excluding SS, CF and SS are the most valuable, that's why you see Lindor is right behind of Ohtani in WAR despite much weaker offensive output.

    i’m not a baseball expert, so maybe this makes no sense, but was thinking it would be better to have him play outfield for much of regular season then have him pitch post-season. i think the wbc showed how valuable having a mvp hitter and an ace is (also showed how ramping up too quickly can be taxing to the body and eventually lead to injuries). so let him play outfield through july, and slowly bring him up to speed in his pitching in august and september. i think his pitching stats would suffer but would be best for the team…maybe?

  • @RealOldDan

    I hope he can maintain this offense for the season but my gut tells me his average is probably going to give more and more while he keeps cranking out the HRs. Thinking about Shohei in the post season (albeit not as a pitcher) right away is amazing as a Dodger fan. Right now to me the next big milestone for him compared to his countrymen is if he can match Matsui's World Series MVP performance.

  • @craigwheeler4760

    Shohei really does have some elite power. Hitting the ball 470+ ft in dodger stadium is hard to do. Thick air, on the bay, near ocean with thick air. That takes a lot of pop out of the ball and costs distance. I would estimate that 473ft HR, which probably went more like 490ft, at 510+ if it were hit in Coors Field without balls treated by the humidifier

  • @Somewondude

    HIS BEST HITTING YRS WILL BE A YEAR THAT HE DOES NOT PITCH.

    • @csy897
      @csy897 2 місяці тому

      Can't really say that cus he is injured now and he is pitching for rehab. So he is not completely not pitching. I believe he can absolutely smash it still if he was a closer. If he is the starting pitcher, it would invariably affect his hitting I feel, but closing should have results similar to this year.

    👍👍👍 to rival that 473 foot hr that nearly went out of dodger stadium you should see the safeco field shot in 2021 hit the 4 th deck where, no one else has gone he better offensively by a head imo they could put him at first but freeman is three they can train him to play 3 rd base

  • @wilkvanburen

    Go back and watch the pitching highlights when he was playing both... Depending on how you looked at it, he had between 4 and 6 pitches, that he could use at any given time, and was able to change location and speeds at will, for a strike, fielded his position way better than average, and we're not even talking about the damage he does with stolen bases. You are literally talking about a man who, when his batting and his pitching are 100%... ranks in the top 3 to 5 at BOTH, at any given time. That's absolutely, freaking insane! That's like asking Hank Aaron to pitch like Roger Clemens or Sandy Koufax to hit like Ted Williams.... Give that a moment to settle in....

    Had Michael Jordan been on a bad team and not win a championship, would he still be considered the best basketball player in history? No. The truth is that no single athlete, no matter how great he is, cannot win on his own determination and abilities in a team sport. Not Jordan, not Kobe, or Ohtani. They all need to be surrounded by a great supporting cast to win and rise to the level of legend status. Otherwise, they would just be considered very good players who aren't great enough win a championship, which is no fault of theirs.

      not according to haters. When Ohtani was with the Angels, haters said Judge deserved the MVP over Ohtani because Ohtani couldn't carry the team to the playoffs. Now Ohtani is with the Dodgers and 99% guarantee to make the playoffs, and haters say Ohtani couldn't get to the playoffs without help from his teammates. Haters will always find an excuse.

    • @George-f8h
      @George-f8h 2 місяці тому +1

      @@eyebeebak Ohtani made the right decision to sign with the Dodgers. He couldn't win with Trout on the same team, and there is no reason to believe things would be any different had he resigned.
      What allows an organization to put a winning team together starts with the team making the right financial/contract decisions. The Angels signed some really bad contracts over the years, and this prevented them from acquiring much needed pitching that could have helped Trout and Ohtani make the playoffs.
