Being an average MLB-level pitcher and hitter at the same time is a ridiculous feat (that nobody has done in a century+). The fact that he's pretty damn near the top of both categories if not at the top...they might as well build a shrine to the guy as a baseball god.

I personally think MLB ruined stolen bases with the rule changes. Acuna had a "40 70" season last year after they added rules to make it way easier to steal bases. Ohtani is the greatest because he can pitch and hit at an all star level, even hitting at an MVP level. not because he stole 50 bases in a year where they made it dramatically easier to steal bases.

Nope, need to see if he can do this in the post season on the biggest stage and get a World Series ring. If he goes 1 for 20 or 3 for 50 in the postseason, he’s just going to be considered the best regular season player.
Feat itself is amazing, but the way he shines when the spotlight is the brightest is just out of this world! When he achieved 40/40 was one show, then this 50/50 founding game, he is one of a kind 😂
Let's not forget there are still 9 games remaining in the regular season. Shohei has an outside chance of reaching the impossible 60/60 this season. IMO, it would be even more crazy if Shohei help win the World Series in his 1st time playing in the post season. Maybe even pitch the last winning game (Dodger's bullpen is pretty depleted at this point) in the World Series and earn the World Series MVP.
Thank You Ohtani my interest in Baseball is here again, Win the Series against the Yankees and you will be one of the Greatest Players in baseball, which San Francisco Barry Bonds have not accomplished.
Defies imagination. Back in the day, the "Natural" Roy Hobbs was written as a great pitcher (struck out the Whammer in 3 pitches!) and hitter (lights out, literally) ... but it never entered the mind that he could have speed and run like the wind. And here's Ohtani. Elite arm, elite power, elite speed. One of a kind. He's not a unicorn. He's a unicorn with two horns.
I stopped watching baseball years ago. However, Shohei Ohtani's greatness has me watching baseball clips again. He's basically Rickey Henderson, but he's also a great pitcher. That's unprecedented greatness. He's kind of doing what Babe Ruth did, but also pitching and batting full time (except this season due to the elbow injury), stealing bases, and he's doing it in the modern era. He has GOAT potential for sure.
thats the one thing that worries me. As a lifelong Dodgers fan, we have proven, more than once, that we could have a 2 billion dollar payroll, win 100 reg season games, and choke in the first round of playoffs lol.

Or more likely because 51 comes after 50....

He is the Most Valuable Player in the whole MLB. People are excited about baseball again and he brings in so much money into the league.
His base slide are thing of a beauty
Most remarkable player baseball has seen 😅🥰
We are witnessing history! 🐐🐐🐐
Definitely in the running... Time will tell & what the future will bring...
As a youngster I used to act out dream sequences in my grandmother’s backyard wanting to topple the 40/40 mark. To see someone achieve it as an adult is amazing.
2200+ games in MLB so far this season. Only 19 times has an ENTIRE TEAM had a better stat line than Shohei did solo today.
My good god man. Feet away from a 4th homer and feet away from Triple. He could’ve had a cycle too. I hope everyone is remembering this because we’re amidst complete greatness. Both in the box and on the mound. Just incredible. We’re literally watching Willie Mays/Babe Ruth and Bonds in his prime.
I'm a baseball fan (Yankee 4life) and big into the NFL and NBA.. I looked at the stat line and I thought to myself this might be the best single game stat line in the HISTORY of sports.. definitely up for consideration.. What y'all think?
No one beats Usain Bolts for individual performance, but for a team sport, that could be up for debate.
I'm a diehard lakers fan and I agree best single player game I've ever seen
Shawn Green had 19 total bases and 7 RBI. Ohtani got 17 total bases and 10 RBI. Ironically, he broke Shawn Green Dodger HR record the same game.
Yes it’s mind boggling. As is Wilt’s 100 point game
I agree. However, Wilt Chamberlain scoring 100 points in a NBA game in 1962 is still tops. Also leaving consideration for the amazing Dock Ellis pitching a no-hitter on acid in 1971
Don't forget these things: 1. He had struggled the early part of the season because of the scandal he had to suffer. 2. He is still recovering from his Tommy John. 3. This is his first season as a dodger. 4. He doesn't do the bonehead sliding when he stills.
Just UNBELIEVABLE
Super Refreshing to see Smart Base Running & Sliding !!
he started off the season as the hottest player in baseball and had the most impactful start any dodger has had in the first 30 or so games. go look at the stats. you don't even remember what you're talking about lmao.
I don’t even like baseball but I recognize the greatness when I see it. He’s a freak of physical, mental and discipline strength.
That last strikeout against the US in the WBC has more weight than him winning 10 WS.
He is already the GOAT
Keep telling yourself that 😂
What an unbelievable talent. Witnessing history in real time is so special
Seems like no matter what Ohtani does, people will say he needs to do more. Jeez
The sky is the limit for him.
Huh?
What’s wrong with that?
@@shawnvogt888 But ... Acuna ... but ... Lindor ... but Judge ... but Vlad ... but Olson ... 🤣🤣
Every year ... haters bring up names to take Ohtani down a notch.
Ohtani cannot be denied bruh.
@RunForPeace-hk1cu ah, I get you. I just try to tune those idiots out, but I know what you're referencing now. If they can't recognize greatness, they're blind.
He makes future HOFers like Trout, Kershaw, Betts, Freeman shake their heads in awe. 🦄🐐
“Nobody who’s hit 50HR in a season has ever stolen more than 25 bases in the same season.”
Boy, that really puts things into perspective.
probably because most of those guys played in this era where they made stealing bases way too easy. literally back to back "historical seasons" (acuna 40 HR 70 SB) after making changes to the base size and how many times a pitcher can pick off. i think the stolen base number is way over blown. what shohei is doing at the plate and as a pitcher is why he's the greatest. not because he can steal bases in this era where they made it too easy.
@@joe-s2z how much easier do you think they made it? So you realize no other 50 hr hitter has stolen more than 25 bases. Do you realize the success rate he has even compared to Acunas 70sb season? steals are 100% up since the rule change but not to the degree that you are trying to diminish it by. His speed is crazy for a player as big as he is and with as much power as he has you can look at the metrics and see
In 7 years, dude's got a ROTY, 3 MVPs (he's guaranteed this year), one 2nd place MVP to Judge's historic season. Even if he's just league average in both pitching and hitting for the remainder of his contract, he'd still be in the discussion as the greatest player ever.
Being an average MLB-level pitcher and hitter at the same time is a ridiculous feat (that nobody has done in a century+). The fact that he's pretty damn near the top of both categories if not at the top...they might as well build a shrine to the guy as a baseball god.
Except he's not in the league average tho...this guy is basically top 5 in both.
@@jackyshin3045
For pitching he lacks the volume of work to put him with the rest of aces in the league, but I'm a purist in that regard so this is more personal preference. Other than that, I completely agree that in his best pitching seasons in any given game he is as good as anyone in the league.
What if he hits more HR then judge ?
07:25 seriously, what kind of pitch is that.
What a transcendent player. Consider yourselves among the privileged to witness this game and this era
I have already run out of superlatives to describe the greatness of Ohtani. Glad to be alive the same time when he is playing.
Sho-Time has seemingly mastered every aspect of the sport of baseball. To Hit, Run and Pitch at the level he's at is making this whole "Major League Baseball-Thing" look way too easy.
He already the GOAT in my mind. No one, not even Babe Ruth, could dominate a game single-handedly the way he can. He's had many games where he'd pitch 7 Innings, only give up 1 ER, and strikeout 12k's, WHILE also hitting 2 HRs in the same game and providing all the offense.
He pitch 9 shutout innings then hit 2 home run game of a 2nd doubleheader on 2023-07-27
The Goat has to have longevity. Sports is a what have you done lately. He’s never even played a playoff game. I’m rooting for him
@@josebarajas5368 "He's never played in the playoffs" is a wacky thing to hold against a player in baseball, the sport where a single team member probably has the least amount of overall impact on his team's success. Even when he's pitching and hitting, he can only start once every couple of days, and he's still only 1 bat in the lineup.
@@AirLancer exactly. Dude was on a poverty franchise. Can't hold that against him
@@josebarajas5368Barry Bonds and Ted Williams are known as two of the greatest but been to only one World Series and never won a championship, or pitched and won 1 game let alone win 15 games with a 2.33 ERA, or went 50-50 in a season.
The sad things about this is there are people who will downplay this achievement. "It's just 50 homers", "It's just 50 stolen bases", etc.
A sane and classy person would appreciate greatness and simply hats off when they see it. If you can't appreciate it, then it shows how little and bitter you are as a person.
Life is too short to worry about haters.
LOL in what world are people saying "it's just 50 homers" about any player in a season?! 😂😂

@@wesleysolmon3320 Remember this when you see the inevitable "IS OHTANI OVERRATED?" thumbnails.
I’m so happy for him. It’s FUN and JOYFUL when he plays. I was never a fan of baseball until he showed up. Now? I love my TWINS! And I love Shohei! 👍🏽👍🏽
Am no expert in baseball but this guy is striking this ball like it’s nothing , looks effortless and smooth : that s to me the most impressive
shohei is going to go berserk in the playoffs and it will be glorious
once Ohtani becomes a World Series Champion he will solitify his legacy in Baseball History - and GOAT of baseball!
A unanimous MVP lock for Ohtani. All 30 BBWAA voting members have the easiest MVP vote in MLB history going 6 for 6 w 3 HR's & 10 RBI's. There have been many prolific hitters as the Judge to win MVP but this is a first in all of baseball history. WOW! TY OHTANI!
nobody in the NL is close enough so he should win it, but just so you know, 1 game won't sway voters. its the full season (body) of work
700 mil not looking like too bad of a deal now 😂
...for an injured pitcher.
3 years ago, Shohei compelled me to start purchasing his merchandise. Mainly slabs. Was a football fantasy fan since the 90's. Baseball was an afterthought. I watched or listened to every Dodgers game this year. Amazing sport. At 63 it's my only sport for now. Quit football fantasy leauge. The Shohei effect.
The 50/50 would make him the greatest but the fact that he is a killer pitcher puts him in a unique category that nobody can even compare to.

Nope, need to see if he can do this in the post season on the biggest stage and get a World Series ring. If he goes 1 for 20 or 3 for 50 in the postseason, he’s just going to be considered the best regular season player.

Thank You Ohtani my interest in Baseball is here again, Win the Series against the Yankees and you will be one of the Greatest Players in baseball,

Willie Mays was too good. Shohei Ohtani may be even better. Let's hope he's got another 6-7 years of good baseball left.

He is about to be in the 55/55 club. The dude is a fkn machine!
Man Vin Scully would have loved this!
In the ancient times we had Hercules , Achilles among other mythical gods and heroes. Today we have Ohtani
While rehabbing to pitch next year, he achieved a 50-50 this season on the side.
"Oh my GOSH! SHOHEI, OHTANI!! The greatest day, in baseball HISTORY!"🤘😝🤘
thats the one thing that worries me. As a lifelong Dodgers fan, we have proven, more than once, that we could have a 2 billion dollar payroll, win 100 reg season games, and choke in the first round of playoffs lol.
Willie Mayes didn't pitch
Shohei doesn’t play defense and get 10 gold gloves
Im starting to think that the Dodgers underpaid Shohei Ohtani.😮
Maybe or might. I would say close to 800 mill contract.
