Do you prefer to winch up the road and hammer the downhills? Are we heading in the right direction as a sport? Can climbing be fun? Let me know what you think!
Climbing is part of the game and should not be isolated to climbing boring fire roads. We have one very long trail (46 km) here that goes up and down constantly. As you stated, you are never in the right gear for that. But it's really fun and quite a challenge to make the whole trip in less than three hours.
Don't want to be a dick but I don't know what is ''new school style of enduro'', I mean, it seems you discovered .. trail riding ? Trails looks really good in this video actually.
Blue shirt is a beast but he knows the trail . Climbing is he biggest part of my game and the technical part is fun to do and watch. When your able to clear it staying on the bike brings great satisfaction . Everybody can go down hill but climbing especially the tech stuff is amazing to watch because most know how brutal it is and many cant do it because its just to hard . It maybe a limited crowd who would like to watch it because its not part of their game . Everybody looks to what there good at and most times thats what they like to watch .
I could not agree more - gobbling up punchy climbs extends the ride and adds a whole new element of fun/skill. another fantastic video Loam Ranger - love your content!
As one of the guys that's up on Radar nearly every day, I'm glad you enjoyed the trails. We have a (very) small group of dedicated guys that make that network possible, and it's a labour of love, for sure. Definitely one of the draws to that network is the challenging climbs, there's always a punchy section waiting to catch you out if you're not on your game! Let us know if you're coming to town again, and we'll show you some of the other less-known trails.
I find that all aspects of mountain biking are important to keep things interesting and maybe even a little spicy 🌶! XC, Trail, Enduro, Downhill...all awesome and sometimes I choose one over the other. Chunky, rocky, rooty, flowy, jumpy, bermy - yes please! Climbing- fire road, techy single track, shuttle, chairlift...its all good depending on month, week, day, mood etc! Do all of the above on a different bike -hardtail, plus, fatty...more opportunity for even mor fun. Exploring high alpine maybe desert and even bikepacking are other ways to enjoy biking! In the end -bikes are awesome❗️
got into mountain biking from bmx. so far climbing has been one of the fun parts. this is something you can't do on a bmx. so yeah for sue climbing can be fun.
Mountain biking consists of many many challenges and climbing is one of those challenges. Personally I want to be the rider that is the complete package...that's my goal...will I ever get there...haha...probably not but I'm always striving to improve every ride. Great video...now that's a mountain bike trail! Cheers!
Climbing is it's own challenge. Timing your shifts correctly and keeping momentum. Picking your way through a really technical section. I don't have access to lifts so you earn your downs. Just the way it should be
Who doesn't love hitting ramps and flooding downhill! Just built a ramp in my recent video and definitely love that more, even if I fall super hard in the video lol.
I like to ride ups and downs but it's hard to beat a good flow trail. A lot of good riding here in Duluth, MN. Come check it out... Curiosity have you ridden Banff? Family reunion next summer in Banff, starting research.
In the beginner mountain biker series can you go over shifting? I’m just starting out and ride a lot of trails that go up and down a lot rather than just a fire road climb and then a descent and sometimes find myself in a not optimal gear, especially if a climb gets steep fast. Even going over the placement of the shifter on your bars would be helpful because I have yet to see a video that covers that
It's tough for 4 guys doing all the trail work on volunteer time, with no support, to keep all the brush cut back on all the trails. It grows like mad on the Island, and it's tough to do much brushing during the head of summer because the wasps are nasty! We're working on it!! Haha
Jason T. You guys are killing it out there! I was thinking more about the trees than brush and I love riding tighter trails anyways. Thanks for your hard work 🤘🏼
Climbing is alright, long climbs, short climbs, steep climbs, techy climbs, but what really annoys me, is when there is a climb in the middle of the trail. It just kills the flow.

climbing is part of the game. Just put some quick doses in your vids. It could be good
I love a technical climb, I’ll take it over fire road climbing most days. 🙂

Totally. Coming from Edmonton, it’s all punchy climbs where shifting points are crucial. It’s its own skill, for sure!
Great to see my little home town trails get featured. Been too long since I've ridden in that area though. Time to get back out there!
That dirt looks amazing. Great footage!
Cheers to you for riding my home town. I love our climbs just as much as the DH parts, some great technical climbs up there
Agreed! Awesome place.
Your videos have the best colors on the entire UA-cam. Damn...congrats
Its like a Jurassic world bike trail...you gotta love this video...yeeeeew 🤘😂
LOL looks like a good ride. That dude made you work bro. Out of breath!!! thanks for the adventure
Who doesn't love hitting ramps and flooding downhill! Just built a ramp in my recent video and definitely love that more, even if I fall super hard in the video lol.
Great vid. Awesome trail riding. Seems like a great place.
Thanks! Looking forward to getting back there.
Awe it looks soooo pretty XD Keep up the awesome videos my dude :)
Great content, thanks LR
We need more trails like this In the Port Mcneill/Hardy Side of the Island
Awesome trail. wish to hit that trail someday
It’s a fun one!
Quality content buddy, I’ve just started to film my rides after watching you & some of the other youtubers on here. 🤙🏻
I’m absolutely amazed consistently how damn quiet your bike is. No clicks or creaks.
I like to ride ups and downs but it's hard to beat a good flow trail. A lot of good riding here in Duluth, MN. Come check it out... Curiosity have you ridden Banff? Family reunion next summer in Banff, starting research.
Dang this video is awesome!
I’d much rather be on a fun technical up track picking apart roots and rocks on the way up than slugging it out on some logging road
Agreed!

Exhilarating!
...Sick. - Loam Ranger 2019
Sick!!!!
Lol at the dock I saw my papas tug boat 😂
Did somebody say come to the uk??
I live in Campbell River
You may have just hit a personal, most shifts in a single video, record.
James might be a cyborg...
Haha you might be right on both accounts. 😂
Very cool trail network out there and not extremely far from Calgary either! Thanks for posting Ryan
Cheers Grant!
What happened to your gimbal? The video seems quite shaky compared to your other ones.
You’re awesome. Your videos look so amazing. And you’re commentary is brilliant.
YouTubing at its finest
MAN! Some of those trails were narrow even for single track!
Agreed! Super fun though

@@TheLoamRanger yep, the trees are tight in places for sure. I've hit more than a couple of them. Not a place where you can be on auto-pilot!
@@jasont.5523 I agree. That would be tough.
Is a go pro hero 7 silver that’s used for 350 worth it
In my opinion? No it’s not worth it. The Hero8 comes out tomorrow, so you should be able to get a 7Black at a decent price very soon.
Damn, dude doesn't wait for nothing
What is that shiny frame you have there? Looks like something ET would ride.
Do you live on Vancouver island?
Nope we’re based in Alberta!
The Loam Ranger cool I love Vancouver island
Climbing is alright, long climbs, short climbs, steep climbs, techy climbs, but what really annoys me, is when there is a climb in the middle of the trail. It just kills the flow.
Here on the island, when that happens, we hit the dropper seat post and gear down and get up to the next section!
maybe stop reading pinkbike and just go out and ride? :D
i live in campbell river lol
Looking loamy!
Are you the lone ranger on mtbr? Not loam...
Nope not me!
😂😂i had to lel
