And even if you’re not suffering from one at the moment, we all know they can creep into your game from time to time.
And so in today’s video I’m going to run through the most common causes of the hosel rocket… and then show you how to fix it, once and for all.
Many of the common causes involve getting too much weight out onto your toes. It can happen at various points in your swing, and the fix is a little bit different for each.

This video made me realize my posture was my biggest flaw and my weight was way out on my toes!

Think you just saved my sanity , stopped coming up on my toes and slowed back swing , kept shanking into bunkers when short chipping onto green . Thank you .

Zach - I am a lefty and I have found improper balance as demonstrated in this video, to be my biggest problem. Thanks for the simplicity and explanation on how to correct this.

Thanks for this video, Zach. It really hits home for me, specifically for pitch shots. The shanks would seemingly come out of nowhere. When it happens on the range, I'll sometimes hit several in a row and I've been trying to analyze what I could possibly be doing different on pitch shots. Whatever it is, I'm probably doing it for all my pitch shots and I'll bet that even my successful pitch shots are probably dangerously close to turning out as shanks. I'll be checking myself for the points in your video. Cheers!

These can definitely all still apply for pitch shots and partial wedges.

Zac, I"m dealing with a 3-year problem with shanks! If I don't shank, everything is closer to the hosel. I'm in the category of under the plane and probably coming out of posture. The question is, what is causing me to have to raise up? You don't do this on purpose there has to be a reason why I have to raise up, the real cause of the problem. I see lots of tips about how to fix early extension, but no one discusses the root cause

Ya it’s definitely a frustrating issue, the problem is there can be various reasons for early extending, being too far underneath the plane on the downswing is one of them. Lowering too much on your backswing is another. You most like have multiple things causing you too early extend. And typically when this happens you also end up with weight in your toes. Good luck

I sometimes forget, but it helps me if I set up with a little more weight on my heels.
