Currently stuck in shank hell. And it came right after the best stretch of golf in my life. Can’t snap out of it. Watched so many videos and so many drills. Might just take a month or 2 off
@@jaswingnut I had the shanks for a few weeks last summer. When they went away I played the best golf of my life the rest of the year. Shanks came back this year for a month straight! My last 3 rounds have been 76, 74 74 so I’m back to normal. It’s just so weird how it comes out of no where and feels like it’s impossible to cure
Love the anti-shank video. Never thought about moving closer to the ball and learning to come more inside out. Always thought that I should stand farther away. I’ll, give that a try as well as the drills.
Very timely Dan. In General i have made good strides with my handicap & generally doing well. However over the last 6/7 rounds half have been ruined by borderline shanks & it really knocks your confidence & progress
This was a great video gents! Shed a whole new perspective of what I was doing incorrectly. All about feel once you figure out what you're doing wrong and then gaining confidence again. For me, I was shooting even through 10 holes and then by hole 11 after a 300 yd drive, I hit my pitching wedge and shanked it out of nowhere. It wouldn't stop. I've been struggling on and off for 2 weeks. Now that I've identified it, I've almost remedied it. It's a scary thing if you love the sport and want to take it professionally like I do. Thanks for the content!
Great Dan video, I use to shank sometimes but I hardly ever now. It would be great for the channel, if you create at least 2-3 videos on different golf tips each week. the golf video ie only needs to be 5- 10 mins. I think a lot of golfers would benefit because you have a wealth of golf knowledge to provide. Your golf channel would grow. When I compare your golf tips to other golf channels, your tips are so much better and more informative. I love your channel. Michael
5 handicap just went through the worst back nine in three years. Started with a chip off the heel, then every iron shot after was heeled. Awful, disgusting especially when playing for doe. On the course it's difficult to find an answer, from feedback on course my hips were open and dragging the club through impact. This has never happened before, kind of scary to feel so out of control.
I put strike tape on my clubs and defo hit from the hosel. It came from nowhere bet was devastating. 2 things helped - Pete Cowens “wringing the towel” drill and also dropping my right foot back a little and turning it slightly toward target. Seems to have worked. Ball strikes now showing mainly middle or toward the toe.
Hi Dan / James. Great video. I have a question on delivering the club face & hitting the ball out of middle. If I address the ball in the middle of the club face I tend to strike the ball more on the toe. I guess I swing down close to my body trying to get an in to out path, so I tend to address the ball with the centre of the club face more to the far edge of the ball. I find I strike the middle more consistently. Love to hear comments & maybe a follow up vlog on this. Ray
Question - love to two ball drill , with addressing the outside ball and hit the inside ball. Should I also set up this way when playing a real round - ie., Address on the outside, as if the 2nd ball is there?
My issue is after hitting a decent shot off the tee, hitting a poor second shot either shanking it or topping it. I always put it down to lifting my head or just not hitting with conviction. 🤷
Yes that’s me, I never know we’re they come from? Not every round, but when it happens, you can’t believe, but the best cure is to just forget and move on
Shanking in irons are rare for me, if at all…. All my shanks are with shorter clubs with less speed 80-30 yards and now even with my chipping, the pitching has infiltrated my shorter game now and I’m now a total mong….
On golf for 30 plus years never hit one shank hit my first tank last year and now I can't get rid of them that's all I hit I don't know what to do I wasn't a bad golfer a nine handicapper. I've tried everything I'm about ready to quit golf I want from loving it to hate you
Can’t believe you didn’t get Lee in the studio for this

That happened to me, took 20 years off and was hitting the ball great when I started again. But now the shanks are back. 😢

Great video. I defo found keeping right foot down a bit longer helped - stopped me early extending

Always a pleasure to listen and learn from a tour professional, especially a guy like James.

Thanks Michael 👍
That's a lot of valuable advice for a little under 19 minutes of a golfer's day.
What a great video I’ve struggled with shanks for years some great tips keeping the hands closer to your body 👌👌
Great vid. I had a spell a few years ago where I was hitting shanks and it was really frustrating.
"This is not a clickbait video to say that you'll never hit a shank again."
It literally says that in the title!😂
Still great information though guys.

Thank you. This was a good lesson. I shank my short irons. From Pretoria RSA
Glad it was helpful 👍
Keep these coming please, brilliant

Hi Ray, some great players address the ball from the heel, Luke Donald being one, try it 👍
Great session lads.
good vid. I just get the odd period where the shanks kick in and lose all feel of how to hit an iron! Wil ltry some of these techniques
What a phenomenal video

100%
Do what works. It’s that simple.
yes and tends to creep in only with wedges or around the green
Good stuff cheers chaps.
I have “shanked” All my golfing career. Any club, any time as I am now in my 60’s. I have never been a solid iron player. Any ideas? 4:10

Dan, let the guest pro be the focus of the video. James had a lot of good insights and most likely had more to share.
I’m just there to keep it bumbling along
Yes that’s me, I never know we’re they come from?

I'm shanking because of a to open clubface. Would have been great if you also addressed thát.
I struggle with them , mostly within my short game ie chipping & pitching . I could have a decent round going and all of sudden i get the s###ks .
Yeah me too….
😞
Yes. For years in and off
Higher tee more draw.. lower tee slice?
I shank with Any club at anytime. Could go for weeks without a shank then here they come. Any ideas
Shank comes from a number of places, have you had a Pro look at it?
Going through it right now!🤬
The only true way to guarantee never hitting a shank again is to give up golf.
(I'm an early extension shanker)

Shot 79 with 2 shanks i hate um. There is many reasons and its mostly tension and fear
For fourth odd years I next shanked a ball had a replacement knee and now cannot stop
Have you seen anyone about it?
I get the shanks from time to time, index 12
Address from the heel is deffo something I'm going to try.
I’m only shanking my wedges on short -50 yard pitch shots. I shank or skull the ball across the ground to the right! Grrr 😡
I only shank my lob wedge with anything less than a full swing. Horrible.
How is Lee not part of this video, isn't it known also as a Whitaker?😁
How about leaving it more to James having invited him?
I am in shanks prison. I believe it is solely from tension in my grip and not committing to releasing the club head. I have an in to out swing
I shank from EE and too steep
Yes sir, sadly. I can definitely associate with the s***k...
Keep head down a short time more, and hit at the grass just to the left of the ball
Excellent lads. Ignore Paul, brilliantly led Dan.
Dan get on with it, 6 minutes before starting.
Yes that's me it's a nightmare, dsgusting
Just ruined 6 days in SE Spain due to the dreaded S-word!
Get home and get it sorted Jamie 👍
The fact you’re saying the word makes me think I’ll do it, so for future reference, don’t even say it please….
