  • If you currently shank the ball, or have ever hit a shank...this video is for you. When you understand why shanks happen, you can solve them. Then, they are not so scary. The first step is identifying what kind of shank you hit. As Michael discusses in this video, there are two basic ways to hit a shank. There is the Face Shank, and the Path Shank. The process you will go through to solve the problem depends on identifying this correctly, and Michael shows you the difference between the two in this video. He will also show you the two drills you need for each scenario. Once you know what causes your shanks, simply apply the appropriate drills, and watch your shanks disappear forever.

Michael, I've been dealing with a bad case of the shanks the last three weeks. This video was absolutely what I needed - hitting them straight again. Thanks so much!

Thank you! Just as you demonstrated, I was opening the club face on my back swing. I went out to the range and concentrated on what I was doing with my trail hand and immediately started having better contact. Hopefully it translates out on the course!

Michael, this is Kathy's hubby Don. This video is the 1st one I have found that truly addresses
and explains clearly what causes shanks. It's maddening as you know to be playing a very good
round and have that jump out and destroy your confidence and score. I think you've identified the face issue that has followed me for years. I have greatly improved my swing path in the last year but
being a former hooker of the ball worried about the feeling of a shut clubface and thereby I
let the face roll open somewhere in the backswing. Thanks a million for your help! So glad I
    found your video!

I'm glad you found it too, and I hope it helps you going forward. No more shanks!

Michael, great lesson. I hit my woods great and shank my short irons. I discovered that I have been playing with a very weak grip. And I think my problem is the "face shank". Another video has suggested changing to a strong grip to cure the face shank. Makes sense as it rotates the face closed relative to the hands. My next stop for a cure. Thanks so much for showing how the face shank works.

Many thanks for your video. I am a 12 HC and from nowhere I started with the “S”. From what you identified, mine was a face issue. I confirmed this when I put some strike tape on my 7 iron. I tried the box method and found that if i moved my right hand more over my left on the grip - slightly out of the “2 x V’s” to the right shoulder. The result was immediate - high baby draw as shown on the strike tape with a concentrated pattern of hits

I like to use a clothespin on the lowest part of the grip, to help with a visual of where the face is.

Mike, I like the idea of diagnosing before fixing. My shanks were caused by setting up with the face open to prevent pulls left. That led to an open face strike to very small clubhead. Now I set up square, have more clubhead space. Must hit at 7 o'clock to hit it straight. Thanks!

Michael thank you so much. The face was the issue for me, I don’t know how I developed it. Also noticed my thumb hurting immensely after a range session. Now it’s all gone. Watched several other videos and tried different things but only you were able to fix it. Thank you so much, I’d pitch in some money but I don’t think you have that enabled in UA-cam. Greetings from Germany, and thanks again!!
PS: understand I almost threw away my clubs today after shaking 100/120 balls at the range. Then I found your video at home, went back to the range, and 1/40 balls were a shank. Unbelievable. It also fixed my balance I think, much less toey now and I can hit a conscious draw again. Really amazing

I've been shanking. Used a close pin. I never turn the face going back. I think mine might be from downswing or when i get to the top of backswing.

Sounds Easy, But shanks almost put me on the couch. I found Shank Proof 52’ and 56’ wedges . Haven’t had that fear since. Their called EX 5 Extreme wedges. Once you get the shanks it’s nearly impossible not to think about them on ever wedge shot. Practice all you want, I decided to take the practice and fear out of the shit with these wedges.
