Oh my God I’ve never seen teeth so bad. I do use toothpick cleaner type devices, similar to those TP type that you show us for in between my teeth they are made as an alternative to dental floss. I get mine at the dollar store I agree. When you ask a white person like myself you get, “I don’t know.” This is why I’ve always loved learning from other cultures other countries. I learned on my last visit. I had slight gum disease that I did not qualify for the insurance benefit, because I was accused of not doing preventative brushing.. that’s in your records, the prices of everything all of the work you have to have done are no longer discounted or covered costing someone thousands and thousands of dollars. I started using your brushing technique close to three months ago. At the same time limited flossing to removing food fibre that is stuck. I also started using the toothpaste Himalaya Botanique (mint and contains xylitol) and reduced my fresh fruit consumption significantly. This past week went for a dental cleaning followed by a checkup by my dentist. He was amazed how healthy my gums have become - he said “best checkup ever, and keep doing what your doing”. For a long time I really tried very very hard to up my game at cleaning my teeth daily. I flossed twice a day, gurgled with water after meals or beverages, brushed my teeth daily but I still got quite a bit of tartar build up even though I saw my dental hygienist four times a year. I got very discouraged because it felt like the hygienist as well as my other dentist were doubting my efforts. I felt so frustrated because I was really trying very hard. Then another dentist suggested I bought a Sonic electric toothbrush when I lamented to him. I never believed in one. I loved the manual toothbrush BUT I took his advice. Game changer. Ever since I started using one, I don't get tartar build up anymore, if any, it is very minimal now. In the am, I just use a manual toothbrush with some toothpaste. In the pm, I usually just use it on my teeth thoroughly without toothpaste (because over-brushing using toothpaste can erode enamel) after flossing, then apply a pea sized toothpaste and brush a second time. My hygienist is so impressed this time saying there was hardly any tartar. And now I just get to see him once in four months instead of three. I am so thankful for the electric toothbrush!

Not a single US dentist has ever recommended a tiny brush like mentioned here. I just tried my mother in laws for first time overseas. Im totally sold. My gums immediately felt better.

A year ago my hygienist recommended I see a periodontist along with using a gum stimulator... I had deep gum pockets measuring up to an 8 ! Didn't go to a periodontist but did use a gum stimulator daily and now the deepest pockets I have is a 4 with the majority of the pockets being a 2 or 3...my hygienist was so happy and now I don't have to spend time and money and pain on a periodontist 😊
What is the gum stimulator you used? I tried to get a GUM rubber stimulator available in US but can't here on Amazon France or UK everything is plastic and wire!

@@parasram7692 yes. I had a number of deep pockets and after 1 year of use, my hygienist told me I no longer have any plus a couple of areas where my gums receded actually grew back, and it stops your gums from receding any further. Truly works !

In my combat to fight bacteria in the gum pocket. I use 3 toothbrushes. I allow each toothbrush to dry 24 hrs. So i have a day , after lunch and a night toothbrush. I also add a capful of listerine Orginal Cool mint or original to my waterpik reservoir. I water floss prior to brushing and string floss after brushing. So i can minimize pushing bacteria into the gumline. I brush 3 times a day. I use a sonic toothbrush at night and a ultra soft manual toothbrush in the am and afternoon. String floss 2x a day and waterpik once a day. I also consume 1 Xylitol mint after every meal. I also have a collection of different size and shape toothbrushes depending on my needs at the time. Youd think we had a family of 6 by looking in my medicine cabinet. But it's only the two of us lol! My husband thinks I'm obsessed. And i am.
@jessica3218. At night, I waterpik 1st, then I do the 1st rinse, then brush, then do my 2nd rinse. Then I sometimes string floss after that. I say sometimes, because the last few times I did, nothing came out. But obviously if I feel or see something I will grab the floss. Then I do the last rinse. I do a light brush brush after lunch, focusing on the tops of my molars, as not to irritate my gums, and string floss as needed and do one rinse. In the morning I just do the rinses and brush. No waterpik or floss necessary in the morning.
@lisagardner4814 Honestly, I can't keep up with the Xylitol. But I just got Invisalign and I'm going to try these Xylitol chewies instead. I have to use chewies anyway to set my Invisalign trays, so i might as well use edible Xylitol chewies.
Really great explanations. I have always brushed the way I was taught but at 62 due to autoimmune problems I have just lost my first two teeth and have gum recession and inflammation. I am learning now that not brushing ones teeth leads to colorectal cancer so Im 62 years old now and a former smoker, I havent smoked in 9 years but my use of chewing on 2 cloves to help with digestion reminds me of when I used to smoke clove cigarettes. You need to address the microbiome in the mouth. Plain cleaning isn't going to do much until you change the pH in your mouth. Bacteria will always grow in an acidic mouth. Diet is a big factor too.
@@KM-wv2ogAvoid sugar, have a good diet with plenty of leafy green vegetables. Minimise eating and drinking between meals to allow ur saliva to interact with ur teeth and to remineralise them. After meals eat fruit that contain Xylitol such as strawberries or raspberries or put a pinch of Xylitol granules in ur mouth and swish it around. Xylitol stimulates the production of saliva and also eliminates acid producing bacteria.
@@KM-wv2og Probiotics. There are Oral Health probiotics you can take but those arent enough your diet needs to be heavy in probiotics (and prebiotics). As someone with Periodontitis I only saw an improvement when I routinely had two Oral Health Probiotic tablets, 10-15 oz Kombucha and plain Kefir mixed in with plain unflavored yogurt (not greek). Research how to improve your gut health and you will find all the answers you're looking for.

I am a 66 year old female and developed periodontal disease following having a total hysterectomy 20 years ago after being diagnosed with endometrial cancer. This type of cancer is an estrogen driven cancer so following my hysterectomy I could not take hormone replacement therapy which contributed to my overall bone loss which included my dental bones. Despite my excellent home hygiene I could not halt the progress of my periodontal disease so I opted to have periodontal laser surgery. As the years progressed despite my excellent home hygiene and getting my teeth cleaned by the hygenist 4 x a year my pocketing and additional bone loss recurred. After years of self research and trying all types if products and appliances, I finally found a regimen that has halted the progress of my periodontal disease. I don't think the products I use to brush, floss and rinse with are the main key to my success, but they do prepare a clean gum and teeth surface for what I think really is the key to my success which is the application of Manuka honey which I apply to my gums after I complete my cleaning regimen. Manuka honey has superb antimicrobial properties, and as a now retired R.N. we used Manuka honey in the hospital to treat festering infected wounds that did not respond to to other therapies with pretty good success. And since starting to use Manuka honey on my gum tissue my gums are pink, tight, and have increased in depth, and additionally I have not developed dental carries from using the honey. Manuka honey is expensive, but a little which I use a tiny bit on the tip of a teaspoon 2 x a day goes a long way. And pure raw Manuka honey does not require refrigeration and has an exceptionally long shelf life. Manuka honey will likely not bring back the gum tissue and bone loss I have already experienced, but I am pretty sure it is helping maintain what I have left.
I don't know why your doctor's wouldn't recommend a eating plan high in vitamin D? Brushing your teeth with a tooth brush is a new concept concept to how humans for ages have cleaned their teeth. They have tribes that have never used a tooth brush and have no gum disease and it due to the foods they eat that have alot of vitamin D.
Liked the video and how you explained about the right way of brushing and how to clean in pockets if you have any. But I totally disagree when you say right in the beginning that “oil pulling doesn’t work”. I personally love it and I know a number of people whose oral health has improved so much thanks to this routine. I would love to use these little interdental brushes.. I bought some once, already the ultra thin, but still they don’t fit in the majority of spaces. I guess I’ll continue with good old fashioned floss. Thankfully i don’t have receding gums.
NEW SUBSCRIBER- I use a Dr. COLLINS PERIO toothbrush( soft). I find the toothbrushes that say “soft” are NOT so soft. This is the brush that works best for me. GREAT REVIEW!
Exactly, yester i bought toothbrush stating "very soft" was the most expensive, when i tried it,it wast neither very soft nor soft ,not comfortable at all. My old one that was way more cheaper was really very soft.
I’m so pleased u mentioned single tufted toothbrushes because I knew I wasn’t getting the area with normal toothbrush but did not know about single tufted toothbrushes but have kept trying to scratch at the areas to scratch off the plaque but also was concerned about scratching away enamel so I really hope these will help.
I use a few drops of tea tree oil on my brush along with toothpaste every time I brush my teeth. After I finish brushing, I swish it in my mouth before I spit it out.

I brush for between 5 to 10 minutes, very detailed and softly, I just think while I do it so I don't see the time go by, it is like a massage. Toothbrush with the softest bristles, manual. I like the feeling of clean smooth teeth after. I can brush twice a day or once or sometimes spend txo or three days without brushing. I use floss however I feel there is a need for it. And i also sometimes simply use my finger nail to clean the teeth, like peeling the stuff along the teeth, and I also use it to scratch off the tiny pieces of tartar that as they start building up. The tartar comes off easily. I went for a tartar removal for the first time in seven years and the dentist said I had nearly nothing to remove. Seven years. So yes, being soft, thorough and brushing for that long is what works. The body feels the care, the love.

Hey doc 😊 i dont know if you could give me some recommendations or maybe some advice, i also went to med-school and i asked alot of my collegues already for advice and at this point im super helpless. I have a atypical gingivitis for 8 months already, no bleeding but a red gum line around every tooth. I dont have any placque, i go to professional cleanings 2 times a year, i use every everyday floss and interdentalbrushes, i use a philips sonicare and a tongue scraper, i oil pull everyday and i am using xylitol after each meal, i dont smoke or drink and im eating clean. My labs were all okay, hormones as well, no candida infection, we already tried with an antimycotic... i would be beyond grateful for your help.

Oh, the water flosser was a game changer for me.. I was using the interdental brushes, and my pockets got bigger. The last time my dentist measured, the pockets are decreasing. 🙏
I’m scared of the waterpik due to sensitive teeth caused by thinning enamel. I have recently started using medical grade nano hydroxy appetite toothpaste and feel like it’s helping after 6 months of use. Can you use warm water in pik?
@MrHalls951 I had very sensitive teeth. I use warm water and add a little bit of salt. I mostly use it in my deep pocket only. It's amazing how much it flushes out and pocket size has reduced . Use a toothpaste designed for sensitive teeth. I can bite into a lolly now 😋
I use baking soda over dry electronical tooth-brush and works well and it may be a game-changer. Daily floss is also a good practice following your delicious meals. And last the most important in my belief is an Healthy Diet. To consume more raw vegetables with fresh Fruits to increase your antioxidant level to keep your gums tight and clean. To stop consuming sugar, and to consume natural sugar from fresh Fruits. Berries, tend to leave a sharpness in your mouth and believe it may have a potential to improve your gum status. Best to take a good look into your healthy diet
There are now curved plastic pics. These pics have a thin plastic filament that is used is place of string. The pics allow leverage and precise placement of the cleaning. Different angles of approach can be accomplished much better then string. The amount of pressure the of the “pull” will be stronger than water pressure. Put the filament above the gum line and pull around the base of the tooth to scrape tarter.
I had swelling around my six top veneers, which cleared up to a point after regular hygienist treatments, and i decided to get the lower six veneers done, however the swelling around the top veneers returned to a point i had to cancel having the much awaited lower veneers done. Last week i saw this video, and i cannot thank you enough, as , having implemented the treatment you advise, the swelling and soreness has dissipated tremendously. However, i don't think the cosmetic dentist is now wanting a change of heart on getting another date booked in. 😔🥴

I am 79 and have a healthy smile-lots of compliments. My secret is brushing with Dial soap. When I went to the dentist after not having dental insurance for some years, he said I did not need periodontics cleaning. I brush once a day, before bed. Recently I started using an electric toothbrush but for many years just a regular toothbrush and floss AFTER brushing
@kathleenwaters1139 Hello, that's really bad advice to be honest. Soap is toxic to the mouth. In fact when I was young I swallowed some soap and I went to the hospital for it. It's better to do hydrogen peroxide 3 % rinses or sea salt rinses

Also try using a nutrient toothpaste called Eucellus, was a game changer for my oral health. Most regular toothpaste just poison our mouths. NO GOOD!

I’m confused. I thought first you use the string floss and then you use the waterpik and then you brush your teeth.

I say sometimes, because the last few times I did, nothing came out. But obviously if I feel or see something I will grab the floss. Then I do the last rinse. I do a light brush brush after lunch, focusing on the tops of my molars, as not to irritate my gums, and string floss as needed and do one rinse. In the morning I just do the rinses and brush. No waterpik or floss necessary in the morning.

@lisagardner4814 Honestly, I can't keep up with the Xylitol. But I just got Invisalign and I'm going to try these Xylitol chewies instead. I have to use chewies anyway to set my Invisalign trays, so i might as well use edible Xylitol chewies.
Really great explanations. I have always brushed the way I was taught but at 62 due to autoimmune problems I have just lost my first two teeth and have gum recession and inflammation. I have tried so many things! Going to start working on these brushing techniques to see if it helps. Thanks for sharing your wisdom.

Glad you remembered the chlorhehexidine mouth wash. My local dentist prescribed it 5 or more years ago for my periodontyl disease. I am learning now that not brushing ones teeth leads to colorectal cancer so Im 62 years old now and a former smoker, I havent smoked in 9 years but my use of chewing on 2 cloves to help with digestion reminds me of when I used to smoke clove cigarettes. I am praying that I dont start craving cigarettes again. Thank you for your brushing tutorial I havent brushed in over a month and. I AM ASHAMED. You need to address the microbiome in the mouth. Plain cleaning isn't going to do much until you change the pH in your mouth. Bacteria will always grow in an acidic mouth. Diet is a big factor too.

@@KM-wv2ogAvoid sugar, have a good diet with plenty of leafy green vegetables. Minimise eating and drinking between meals to allow ur saliva to interact with ur teeth and to remineralise them. After meals eat fruit that contain Xylitol such as strawberries or raspberries or put a pinch of Xylitol granules in ur mouth and swish it around. Xylitol stimulates the production of saliva and also eliminates acid producing bacteria.
@@KM-wv2og Probiotics. There are Oral Health probiotics you can take but those arent enough your diet needs to be heavy in probiotics (and prebiotics). As someone with Periodontitis I only saw an improvement when I routinely had two Oral Health Probiotic tablets, 10-15 oz Kombucha and plain Kefir mixed in with plain unflavored yogurt (not greek). Research how to improve your gut health and you will find all the answers you're looking for.

I am a 66 year old female and developed periodontal disease following having a total hysterectomy 20 years ago after being diagnosed with endometrial cancer. This type of cancer is an estrogen driven cancer so following my hysterectomy I could not take hormone replacement therapy which contributed to my overall bone loss which included my dental bones. Despite my excellent home hygiene I could not halt the progress of my periodontal disease so I opted to have periodontal laser surgery. As the years progressed despite my excellent home hygiene and getting my teeth cleaned by the hygenist 4 x a year my pocketing and additional bone loss recurred. After years of self research and trying all types if products and appliances, I finally found a regimen that has halted the progress of my periodontal disease. I don't think the products I use to brush, floss and rinse with are the main key to my success, but they do prepare a clean gum and teeth surface for what I think really is the key to my success which is the application of Manuka honey which I apply to my gums after I complete my cleaning regimen. Manuka honey has superb antimicrobial properties, and as a now retired R.N. we used Manuka honey in the hospital to treat festering infected wounds that did not respond to to other therapies with pretty good success. And since starting to use Manuka honey on my gum tissue my gums are pink, tight, and have increased in depth, and additionally I have not developed dental carries from using the honey. Manuka honey is expensive, but a little which I use a tiny bit on the tip of a teaspoon 2 x a day goes a long way. And pure raw Manuka honey does not require refrigeration and has an exceptionally long shelf life. Manuka honey will likely not bring back the gum tissue and bone loss I have already experienced, but I am pretty sure it is helping maintain what I have left.

I don't know why your doctor's wouldn't recommend a eating plan high in vitamin D? Brushing your teeth with a tooth brush is a new concept concept to how humans for ages have cleaned their teeth. They have tribes that have never used a tooth brush and have no gum disease and it due to the foods they eat that have alot of vitamin D.

Liked the video and how you explained about the right way of brushing and how to clean in pockets if you have any. But I totally disagree when you say right in the beginning that “oil pulling doesn’t work”. I personally love it and I know a number of people whose oral health has improved so much thanks to this routine.
I would love to use these little interdental brushes.. I bought some once, already the ultra thin, but still they don’t fit in the majority of spaces. I guess I’ll continue with good old fashioned floss. Thankfully i don’t have receding gums.

Exactly, yester i bought toothbrush stating "very soft" was the most expensive, when i tried it,it wast neither very soft nor soft ,not comfortable at all. My old one that was way more cheaper was really very soft.
I’m so pleased u mentioned single tufted toothbrushes because I knew I wasn’t getting the area with normal toothbrush but did not know about single tufted toothbrushes but have kept trying to scratch at the areas to scratch off the plaque but also was concerned about scratching away enamel so I really hope these will help.

I use a few drops of tea tree oil on my brush along with toothpaste every time I brush my teeth. After I finish brushing, I swish it in my mouth before I spit it out.

I brush for between 5 to 10 minutes, very detailed and softly, I just think while I do it so I don't see the time go by, it is like a massage. Toothbrush with the softest bristles, manual. I like the feeling of clean smooth teeth after. I can brush twice a
day or once or sometimes spend txo or three days without brushing. I use floss however I feel there is a need for it. And i also sometimes simply use my finger nail to clean the teeth, like peeling the stuff along the teeth, and I also use it to scratch off the tiny pieces of tartar that as they start building up. The tartar comes off easily. I went for a tartar removal for the first time in seven years and the dentist said I had nearly nothing to remove. Seven years. So yes, being soft, thorough and brushing for that long is what works. The body feels the care, the love.

it's not, you're 13, your youth will help you recover fast. i was 29 when i realized what you realized at 13! although i showered until i was like 25 then went 4 years basically almost never showering. but never brushed my teeth my whole life. turn it around now, don't wait till you're 30 like me! although i've made a dramatic improvement fast, so yours will be even better

Thank you for this video. I have a 6 mm pocket near an implant crown. I have been using the brushing technique you mentioned using the single tufted toothbrush. Can you recommend a single tufted toothbrush that is of the proper level of softness? Mine is a Canadian made product called Sulca brush, and I don't know if that is soft enough.
Hey doc 😊 i dont know if you could give me some recommendations or maybe some advice, i also went to med-school and i asked alot of my collegues already for advice and at this point im super helpless. I have a atypical gingivitis for 8 months already, no bleeding but a red gum line around every tooth. I dont have any placque, i go to professional cleanings 2 times a year, i use every everyday floss and interdentalbrushes, i use a philips sonicare and a tongue scraper, i oil pull everyday and i am using xylitol after each meal, i dont smoke or drink and im eating clean. My labs were all okay, hormones as well, no candida infection, we already tried with an antimycotic... i would be beyond grateful for your help.

EVERYONE can benefit from one simple addition to their dental hygiene routine, and that is, using a Waterpik or water flosser. It's not a big investment for something that is a literal game changer for your dental health. In fact, it does such a good job, you don't even need to floss, although I recommend you continue to floss as well. So here is the order in which to clean your teeth: Waterpik, then brush, then floss. Then watch the magic happen to the health of your teeth and gums! Been using a Waterpik for many years and it is truly amazing.

Oh, the water flosser was a game changer for me.. I was using the interdental brushes, and my pockets got bigger. The last time my dentist measured, the pockets are decreasing. 🙏
I’m scared of the waterpik due to sensitive teeth caused by thinning enamel. I have recently started using medical grade nano hydroxy appetite toothpaste and feel like it’s helping after 6 months of use. Can you use warm water in pik?
@MrHalls951 I had very sensitive teeth. I use warm water and add a little bit of salt. I mostly use it in my deep pocket only. It's amazing how much it flushes out and pocket size has reduced . Use a toothpaste designed for sensitive teeth. I can bite into a lolly now 😋

I use baking soda over dry electronical tooth-brush and works well and it may be a game-changer. Daily floss is also a good practice following your delicious meals. And last the most important in my belief is an Healthy Diet. To consume more raw vegetables with fresh Fruits to increase your antioxidant level to keep your gums tight and clean. To stop consuming sugar, and to consume natural sugar from fresh Fruits. Berries, tend to leave a sharpness in your mouth and believe it may have a potential to improve your gum status. Best to take a good look into your healthy diet
There are now curved plastic pics. These pics have a thin plastic filament that is used is place of string. The pics allow leverage and precise placement of the cleaning. Different angles of approach can be accomplished much better then string. The amount of pressure the of the “pull” will be stronger than water pressure. Put the filament above the gum line and pull around the base of the tooth to scrape tarter.
I had swelling around my six top veneers, which cleared up to a point after regular hygienist treatments, and i decided to get the lower six veneers done, however the swelling around the top veneers returned to a point i had to cancel having the much awaited lower veneers done. Last week i saw this video, and i cannot thank you enough, as , having implemented the treatment you advise, the swelling and soreness has dissipated tremendously. However, i don't think the cosmetic dentist is now wanting a change of heart on getting another date booked in. 😔🥴

I am 79 and have a healthy smile-lots of compliments. My secret is brushing with Dial soap. When I went to the dentist after not having dental insurance for some years, he said I did not need periodontics cleaning. I brush once a day, before bed. Recently I started using an electric toothbrush but for many years just a regular toothbrush and floss AFTER brushing

@kathleenwaters1139 Hello, that's really bad advice to be honest. Soap is toxic to the mouth. In fact when I was young I swallowed some soap and I went to the hospital for it. It's better to do hydrogen peroxide 3 % rinses or sea salt rinses
