Actually it will just go down to the bottom of the comment section if possible
Yeahhhh they removed the video's dislike button now, youtube is useless now
It isn't removed. They just stopped displaying the amount of dislikes. The creator of the video still sees the dislikes.
Google should've stuck to being a search engine. The only good thing they ever made yet they just keep making it worse.
Worse for you, yes, but not for them. Google (the search engine) has always been free to use. If you can use something THIS important for free, then YOU are the product.
And I really hope that you don't use Google anymore.
They're like Disney. They take over things and then proceed to ruin them with their "wokeness" but they're so big you almost are stuck dealing with it and continuing to use at least some things they own.
@@Puschit1 Not really free per se. They've gone from a search engine to an Ad company. It's majorly an advertisement company now because it's their major source of revenue.
@@myrondcunha5670 That's what I meant when I said that the user is the product, not the search engine

I WAS ABOUT TO COMMENT THAT!
It was about to hit that point.
I remember when a comment got enough dislikes it said something like “ this comment has received to many dislikes” and would hide the comment but you would be able to view it anyways to see what it said.
3:34 And it's gone. OK not gone but about as kneecapped as downvoting comments.
There used to be a counter for the dislikes button for comments. Anyone remember that?
Chrome has a "Return UA-cam Dislike" extension
Foreshadowing 3:33
Next question: why can't be comments sorted by "Oldest First"? There's only "Newest first" and "Top comments" option. I would love to see the very first comment on the very first video (Me at the zoo).
why does youtube have blacked out thumbs ups in the comment sections even though you have not like the comment
I was trying to find this out, too. I just noticed it
yes
3:34 hmmm...
0:59-1:03 Yeahhh maybe you shouldve just stayed on reddit, finding good answers on quora is like finding trees in a minecraft desert.
I wonder what social media this dude uses
UA-cam cientists with their massive brains are all like "if the dislike button does nothing, people will stop disliking things". Such based figures.
It's for false sense of openness and democracy. It gives people sense that they can express their dislike.
0:57 Lmao
I have been noticing that if I dislike a comment, any reply I make to they user is more likely to disappear.
I think with youtube acting as a town square it's dangerous psychologically. to have only likes and not dislikes displaying.
it gives echo chamber vibes to people's already echo chamber ideas in recommended videos and doesn't show other points of view enough with the people who agree or disagree. The people who comment vs like or dislike is a big difference in ratios.
They set the dislike count output private. I'm pretty sure they've already fixed the code after Google+ was done. I wonder when will they ever show the dislike count again? They might show it when we're all dead so we don't get upset when we see someone hated us. I guess it will be displayed in a museum hundreds of years later. Only our great-great-great... grandchildren would see it.
I agree, I hate not having it. But I think UA-cam saw the negativity possible with downvotes on Reddit and wanted to further childrenize their main platform

Bring back the 5 star rating.
Let's be honest, you just want it for nostalgia. Because most people would just put 5 stars if they like it or 1 stars if they don't. It's literally pointless because the like and dislikes ratio serve the same purpose but simplified
@@Play-gn7xg I think the five star rating system got more specific maybe I like the person but not the Contant maybe I like the Contant but I didn’t like the person. I could still give it a three star rating versus just a thumbs down.
I just found out something I never noticed before. I don't get notification anymore if someone like my comment. No wonder I get love notication instead. So there's no point in the dislike comment button or dislike video button for viewers anyway since they are invisible and unnotified.
Well disliking a video still has a purpose. The video creator still sees the downvotes, so it let's the creator know you didn't like it. It just doesn't display it for everyone else to see.
Atleast, you won't get notified after someone likes your comment then unlike it, it's pretty annoying when you get notified, you think you got a like, you check your comment and all you can see, is that someone liked your comment but then unliked it💀, so you still have 0 likes, it happens almost everyday and it gets annoying
"They'd delete the buttons for the video if that was true, right?"
This, combined with the removal of the public dislike function AND the fact that the content creator can remove negative comments ...hm ... seems to me like there is no single way anymore for the public to evaluate the content.
Good job UA-cam ... good job ...
I am old enough to remember when the dislike was visible on UA-cam comments... my idea is that it is still tracking the dislikes but the visibility of the dislike count is gone.
I remember back in the day when there were more than 6 dislikes it said "this comment has been flagged as spam", lol, I think they changed it cause a lot of trolls got off on their comments getting negative votes
@@chriswilliams1124 Ah yeah!! I remember that!! Very good point!

Well no shit you are moron.... It wasn't that long ago?! You thought we thought you were born last month or something?!?!?!
You are a little ass kid. STFU talking about you remember yhisnir that... You haven't been alive long enough to have any memories yet baby
Remember years ago when YT used to have a 'Friend invite' button? They had both subscribe and friend invite buttons, where you can go on a channel page and see both the person's friends and subscribers displayed.
UA-cam is only keep your changing for the worst by their new awake* owners. Whether it is increasing spam rate of adds, random ass autodelete bots, removal of DM feature or dislikes. They do also removed the function of putting notes over each upload that included on the personal playlist. The only outlier might be having the track of your own comments. Which would have eventually happened with its original owners as well.
The original creator should not have sold that for greed while they were already making a lot of money. That was kinda lame of them against its original audience that made UA-cam a thing in the first place.
I almost never touch the dislike button, sometimes I randomly do because I thought it didn't do anything.
--I have- my cousin's friend has multiple accounts she uses to down vote comments which keep her up at night - It physically moves them down in the comments section. It's her passive aggressive power move. The algorithm behind it is a complete mystery to my cousin's friend, but she cares not.
there are people who use those in youtube arguments. To make it seem like they have supporters but it be the same damn person.
You can’t even dislike a video
Yes you can. It just isn't displayed anymore. It still counts as a downvote and the creator still sees the dislikes
Not convinced this has anything to do with the integration of Google+. For a couple years, prior to disabling the button functionality, "safe spaces" were becoming a common feature in public discourse. There was also the short lived ability to remove comments the original comment poster deemed as "bullying", which was, without doubt, abused. Leading up to how comments are just actively ghosted when triggered by the most innocuous words.
Now you cant even dislike youtube videos...
I pressed thumbs down on a flat earth video and it said your feedback has been taken into consideration. So I would say that you can still dislike but it is not shown.
Idk why people say this. You definitely can dislike a video still. It just doesn't display it publicly. The creator of the video still sees the dislikes though. Basically it's only to let the creator know you didn't like the content of the video. If you upload a video and get a ton of dislikes, it's still going to let you know people weren't digging the video even though other people can't see it.
Just goes to social credit scores
Guess UA-cam watched this video and wanted to prove they just want to keep the platform friendly and bubbly....
3:34
This statement aged like milk
I don't think there's any logic behind it. Only because people stop using it because they can't see that it matters. It's basically just an ignored button so the metrics for it are inaccurate.
If you look into the dev tools, comment-dislike-button sends a request and receives an OK-reply. What they do in the backend I don't know. But the button eats your and their bandwidth for sure.
3:35 yeah! they did it..but we have extensions😆
The only one that should be visible is the dislike. Then we know that our comments made an impact. Dislikes are much more passionate than likes.
this is very informative and the editing is great!

On my phone I don’t get the option of “best” comments. Anymore. I only get “most recent” or “top comment”
@@DoubleMonoLR 😂😂😂
Why did I think everybody just ignored the dislike button (well they ironically surly do know)
I think they made the dislike button useless and the dislikes hidden is so that people watch the videos for longer, generating more revenue. You can't just look at the like/dislike ratio and say "yeah that's a shitty tutorial, I'll find something else" you have to watch the videos you'd normally know to avoid.
You're confusing two things: The topic of this video is the dislike button in the COMMENTS - the down-pointing thumb under every comment - whereas your comment addresses the single dislike button for the VIDEO. But I won't 'dislike' your comment.😉 Easy mistake to make.

Does the subscribe button do anything? Does the subscribe button work? :):)
RED BUTTON SMASHED
dislikes are important because we don't want to see stuff like that
instead we want to see stuff that we like. But the algorightms don't read too deep into it and just mostly gather tags and basic info.
I think dislikes are just as important as likes, when it comes to keeping the integrity of the comments section. It feels like the 'Like' counter is never accurate because we dont see the negative opinions on it. But youtube doesnt care about healthy discussion they just want profits lol
3:34 😬
For years I've instantly looked at the ratio of overall Likes/Dislikes, as a good gauge of public opinion. But for youtube to remove the main dislike button smacks of all the globalism / brainwashing / PC / Wokeyness thats pissing off every moderately normal person. Its a bit like sports day at my young sons kindergarten .. in an 8 way 100m sprint they all come first no matter how they actually performed, and this is to make the poor little souls feel good and not upset them. My son only came 3rd but was really upset at not getting a gold/silver/bronze medal and instead gets a pat on the head and told hes as good as the kid who was 8th. Overall, where are future leaders going to come from ? where is the drive to do better and achieve more if we're all dumbed down into the lowest common denominator? This is the nanny state all over and I really hate the brainwashing thats going on at the moment...
Well put sir
"in an 8 way 100m sprint they all come first no matter how they actually performed, and this is to make the poor little souls feel good and not upset them."
That is a very dumb thing and it is hard to believe miserable stuff like that actually started to happen for real. Recalling it from an epsiode of Roboroach where this concept was being introduced by some guest characters that were missing a screw on the head in the show. Now that it is for real.
That's a great analysis! We're all being used as guinea pigs...
Not that true, if they really wanted to go "all workey-ness" (🙄), they'd get rid of the comment section too.
Anyone thinking others loosing the ability to express dislike is a positive... There is no help for them.
I have another theory:
First of all, you're correct. I'm a coder myself and "trapped somewhere inside the code" is bs in this case. Even if the algorithm that interprets the button remains somewhere inside de code, the frontend developer can just shut it down so it doesn't register any input. That's not tricky at all. Also, you know why I'm sure they still collect dislikes (and don't want to get rid of it)? Because it's information, and highly valuable too. It's main use can be Sentiment Analysis, enabling their AI to superficially yet adequately classify the intentions of the commenters by learning how comments are generally received by the public. All they need to do is to link text with feedback. The negative feedback is necessary to discriminate "right" from "wrong". It's school book AI engineering of which I'm sure Google is not naïve about.
But why don't they want us to see the dislikes? It's not because they like to keep the party going. They don't want other people using their platform to create homemade algorithms that can potentially compete with Nightbot or even Deep Mind himself. In the end, the behavior of the comment section has become part of their intellectual property.
A couple years ago I saw a video of someone saying that he looked into the code, and the dislike button doesn't do anything, that there is no code attached to it.
But as you said that wouldn't make sense, this people crave information like crazy, they wouldn't waste such good opportunity to harvest information. They probably have a database of everything we like and dislike.
As you said it probably doesn't show because they want that information only for themselves, and also it makes the comment section a little bit less negative
I would be glad if it was still doing something.
But I still wish the poster knew that their comment was not liked.
I remember when everyone had to try to be "first!". I enjoyed Disliking their comments to try to get them to stop. (even thought their comment actually did help the algorithm. but still, they could comment something useful)
3:30 loooooooooool
If dislikes are down who's to say it's not because people don't know it works?

Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea !"
Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky."

I have seen it myself. There was a video with only a few comments. The comment with most likes and the most replies was still at the bottom of the list because it criticized "snowflakes, woke-supporters and BLM". So clearly a lot of people downvoted it even if you couldn't see the downvotes.
The problem with visible downvotes is that a comment with many of them will attract the vultures which will downvote it too for no other reason than others have done it before them.
But what really pisses me off Reddit's downvoting system. You are only supposed to use the function if the comment is an attempt at trolling or doesn't contribute to the discussion in any way. Yet people use it because they disagree with you, or to get rid of competition, or simply because they are assholes.
This
That's one thing I've never understood about reddit. I'll see comments downvoted for basically no reason, just because maybe the person had a different opinion than the others on a forum. They weren't rude, weren't trolling, respectful, but just voiced an opinion that maybe doesn't match everyone else and boom. Downvoted to hell. Idk I only downvote people who are rude. If they're being an outright asshole ill downvote them for being a dick, especially when it's unprovoked. But I couldn't imagine downvoting people just because they respectfully had a different opinion than I did. That's the whole point of comments. To have discussion about a subject. Seems like reddit can be a bit toxic from what I've seen when it comes to downvotes.

Lol... interesting. Love the humor.
Now, I know why!😃
I mean I could be totally wrong there haha, nobody seems to really know but Im gonna go with it does do something right now, but something nobody should really care about
I know a little bit a bout coding. I get the argument that it may be too ingrained in their systems for a thorough removal, but simply removing the thumbs down button from being visible to users is likely just one guy's afternoon.
That being said, you know Google and their data collection. Even if the buttons did nothing on the user end, Google still wants that info. That's my guess.
It might also have something to do with their nonsensical policy on cyber-bullying. "Oh no this guy has 10k dislikes but only 69 likes. Better make the bad number invisible to avoid feelings getting hurt". Ironically, this has caused people to become more vocal about criticisms. Before, when they could see the number of thumbs downs, they were content with that. However, you click thumbs down and see nothing? Better give them a piece of your mind.
If you want to get into conspiracy territory, they're culturing us move away from negative feedback and only be yes men.

your right... weird but probably to lower the hate n negativity. l think youtube knows negative people love to join in on the hate so they just disabled their weapon.
If that is UA-cam's intent, then I understand. Reducing hate in the world is very good. But, there is nothing wrong with negativity/pessimism (which is different from doubt/despair/hate/etc.). It's okay to expect your car to break down if you haven't fixed it in a while, for example. Technically, that's pessimism. But in the end, some things deserve to be disliked. If someone dislikes your comment due to hate, then dislike their hateful reply. It's good to dislike hate, right? I think it's ignorant and harmful to live in a world of "only likes," or in other words, "toxic positivity." Now people can reply all the hate they want and we can't dislike it... Well, we can, but it doesn't show... Instead, it only shows all the people who like the hate.

Same thing on Steam. There is a dislike button but seemingly it doesn't do anything, other than removing your like if you already pressed it. But I think it's better that way. We already have reddit for karma/like whoring and people brigading over one section to another to bombard you with their discontent. So let's just have likes. The coding thing is not the right answer. It would be a trivial UI change. You could write a Chrome plugin to do it if you really wanted.
If I were to guess why they left it it's catharsis. It gives people an outlet for their negative opinion besides a shitpost reply. They obviously track it somehow, because if you visit a video for a second time, you'll still see your dislike registered under any comment you disliked before. So they're storing the data, if only to show *you* the things you already disliked. But I don't think they actually do anything else with the data. I think you get a distribution of highly-liked comments and lower-liked comments (rather than comments sorted descending by like count) simply to prevent newer comments from being buried by older comments.
