    Quick clarification regarding building Garrisons. If the Support player waits out the cooldown and places another supply crate, it will actually replace the previously placed crate, so it's impossible for a single Support player to help you build a Garrison in enemy territory. You need your squad mates to switch roles, as suggested in the video.

    A general rule of thumb that I use(I play console), which applies to all roles really, is that about 80% of people have mics, 50-60% of those people are actually willing to use said mic, and about 20-25% of THOSE guys are willing to be THE FIRST one to use a mic. So just being first to speak generally gets others to talk. It's rare to have a full squad of mics, but you can easily get 2 or 3 others to speak if you are the first. Basically, just speak first

    I think every HLL player, regardless of role, should watch this, that way they can be aware of what their SL is actually doing and how they can help

    Some simple rules I use as a SL:
    1. If there is a lot of friendlies - go somewhere else.
    2. Fill in the empty 4 attacking or 4 defending squares on the map.
    3. Have fun.

    Me and a friend of mine picked up Hell Let Loose a few days ago. I used to be the one making all of the call-outs on Battlefield and deciding what our strategy was and essentially running the squad so I fell into the role of SL by accident. I came to UA-cam to find out what I should be doing to help the team the most and I can honestly say this video was so helpful! Now I have a friend who mains support instead of rifleman and we’re popping up garrisons as much as we can.
    I love the responsibility of letting the other squad leaders and the commander know useful information that me and my squad come across and it’s always great when you’re pinned down and can request air support from your commander. Great game, I can see me being on this for many, many hours!
    Side note: This game has THE best community I have ever come across. So welcoming and helpful. If you haven’t used a mic yet, please do, people are more than happy to help you learn.

    After a solid 20 hours in game I decided to have a go at SL since most of the squads were without one and I couldn't be bothered playing aimlessly.
    No one wanted to play SL.
    Got lucky with my squad, most of them were just happy that they had a SL and someone with a mic. They also were really understanding about me being an SL for the first time.
    I just kept my squad on the defence and tried to follow directions from the commander. We won that game and got all my squad member's recommendation. Felt good man, watching this before definitely helped a lot!
    TL;DR: HLL community is great, so just step forward and lead on!

    7:42 I'd agree with that to an extent.
    A big part of your job as SL is relaying information to your squad and letting them know where the enemy is. So I will definitely double mark targets I think are important for my squad to be aware of. Tanks and enemy Garries especially.
    And as a separate comment, not enough people know that only SLs and Supports can see recon plane information. So when a recon pops up, it's important to tell the squad what you're seeing and ping enemy infantry that have splintered off from the main group or on your flank.

    • @coltoncyr2283
      @coltoncyr2283 2 роки тому +1

      I normally over Mark the map. When Recon comes by, I immediacy look for large orange targets and Mark them as Tank and Garrison. It's safer to mark something than to not.
      If I see an enemy deep in a random spot, I'll mark as with a Troop. Atleast if my squad doesn't react then another squad will be somewhat aware.

    Two points on node building..
    1. The support player does not have to spend the entire cooldown time within range of a manpower node in order to cut the time in half, he just has to enter its proximity once, at any point during the cooldown. As soon as he does this, the cooldown bar automatically gains 50% and does not reduce if he leaves the area
    2. On Offensive mode, the defenders can drop their supplies from a supply truck at their own HQ, as long as they do it before the enemy capture their first cap. So, if engineers are quick, they can have all 3 sets of nodes built before the enemy is even out of their first spawn point.

Turned out it’s not actually that hard, it felt great to have a bunch of people in a squad following you, taking orders and seeing the strategies that either you, other SL’s or a commander plan. A great respectful community as well. HLL’s a great experience I recommend to all newcomers like myself.

  • @tomatoslav

    Also, when you are officer, just put a garrisons somewhere hidden so it's easier for you. The ability for the rest of the team to spawn is a bonus and you'll get points for it. Unlike an outpost, it's harder to dismantle and just by having people spawning on the garrisons it's going to be better protected.

    One thing I have started doing lately is playing squad lead do more logistical stuff like building flank garrisons and helping the commander. One of the biggest improvements I have seen is not placing the garrison right on point because that is easy to find. I put two garrison around the point so the team will still have something to spawn off of. Once the action gets hot, then I relocate the garrison to one point when get have a good defense.

    One more thing about garrisons in friendly territory enemies within 50 meters will trigger the enemy near by, thus taking the Garry out of commission. On the other hand in enemy territory , enemies within 100 meters enemies will trigger enemies near by. So to all you squad leaders on attack place your Garry at least 200 meters out side the objective you’re attacking. Half tracks are currently bugged they’re supposed to become deactivate at 50 meters but they’re more like 25 meters.

    Hey great video! Just a small correction on supply role. If you wait for your supply box cooldown and drop it, it will replace the previous box you put down if it wasn't used. So it is impossible, without switching roles, for a single supply player to create garrisons in enemy territory.

      Got introduced to the "hot swap" idea of using support roles for sneaky garrisons.
      1) SL drops OP where you want the garrison.
      2) Support 1 drops his supplies
      3) Squad kills Support 1 and one other player to swap to support so they get a 10 second kill cooldown instead of 20 for redeploying.
      4) Support 1 switches to riflemen to open up the support role. Player 2 jumps into support
      5) Support 2 spawns in and drops their supplies.
      6) Garrison is built within 30-50 seconds and no supply drop is used to give the position away
      Support players can swap back if desired.

    9:17 - I've found that playing tank leader is also great for this, because one can focus on the other squads without having to move. This video helped me out immensely over my first week in the game. Now I’m to the point where I get annoyed when people drop a gari directly on top of the strong point. I like to spread mine out, 3 in a triangle about 100m from the middle of the strong point, and use OPs on top of the strong point.
    Doing this, 1) makes it so that when the enemy does overrun the strong point they only take out OPs and you only have to run 100m min to get back to defend, instead of 200m min if they take out the gari or lock spawning. 2) they’re harder to find, since the enemy expects them near the strong point. 3) it sets up an intruder sensor array around the strong point, so you generally know where the enemy is coming from. 4) redundancy is important when the enemy is making a strong push, or a couple troops slip behind the battle and take out defense Garis, you still have an easy means to get back and counter those flanks.

    • @SoulSniperYT
      @SoulSniperYT  Рік тому

      If you have plenty of other garrisons surrounding the strongpoint, it's fine to build on right inside it. Yes it's more vulnerable to bombing runs and such, but you've got several backup garries. Plus, having the team spawn on it instantly gives max cap weight since they're inside the circle. But yea if you only have a couple garries (you should never just have a couple!) then don't build one inside the strongpoint. Unless you're desperate and losing the point.

      It's jarring at first with command chat and squad chat, with people depending on you for outposts and garrisons, not to mention leadership and direction. It takes a few games as SL before you start to get a bit more comfortable. Also depends on your squad. Sometimes you get people who are just as knowledgeable, other times not so much. Keep at it!

    Something that could be beneficial as a squad lead is when giving orders to make sure to direct it at specific people instead of asking the entire squad in an open invitation, if your squad is a little more closed off this might give them the small push they need to do what they need to d. For example “can I get supplies?” Might work less well than “ username] can I get some supplies? “ might help

After he drops his first crate, when his cool down expires and he goes to drop his 2nd crate for the 100 sups needed, his first crate will disappear as he can only have a max of 50 total sups dropped on the map at once.

    The hardest thing for me for the first 10 or so games playing officer is ignoring radio. I sort of just learned to ignore it. If it's something important, it will be repeated when there is less radio activity + there are also markers.
    Playing officer you'd think you might get fewer kills but in a game I had my highest kill count yet was playing as officer. It might just be incidental, because usually I don't get 30% of what I got that game, or some other factors played a hand in that (playing defense, awareness was higher because I was rested, etc.), but I think this anecdotal evidence might prove you don't need to forego kills and action if you play officer.

    I feel bad being the SL of a recon group with my friend because i’m super timid but my friend can’t use VOIP so I gotta communicate with all the other SLs 😅
    I also selected officer because nobody in my squad was and I ended up being promoted to SL and I feel bad because I wasn’t stern enough to round my squad back to defend the point and we failed an offensive + got counterattacked and lost the match

    • @SoulSniperYT
      @SoulSniperYT  2 роки тому +3

      It sounds like you fully understand the role but that maybe it's not the best fit for you personally. I wouldn't feel too bad honestly. After all, you stepped up in a scenario you weren't comfortable with and gave it your best shot. That's all anyone can ask. Also remember - this is a video game. None of it really matters lol.
      Maybe what you can try if you find yourself in that spot again is saying things like "Ok Jig squad command wants us to fall back to Rue to defend so we don't lose the sector so please redeploy as soon as possible."
      That way even if you're timid, you're relaying the orders from command, which your squad might take a bit more seriously. You can also place move, attack, and defend markers on the map to visually communicate what you want them to do. If they still don't listen, then that's on them and they are likely a lost cause anyway, which isn't your fault.
      It's all good man! What's important is that you have fun. After all that's why we play right? You're welcome to join my discord if you want. I'm only level 45 and was basically forced to play SL twice (lvl 35 and 39) so far since nobody in my squad wanted to do it. lol
    And honestly squads without a leader seem pointless.
    It can be quite a lot for a new player like me, but it's still better than not having a SL, but it can be frustrating when you're the only person communicating.
    Both times we won the round and my squad even got the most point points of any squad the first time, which felt quite rewarding!
    Also, defending is really anything but boring, especially when you know your squad were the few guys who actually stayed back to give an incoming enemy wave the last stand and made your team not lose a point!

    What do the Squad roles actually do ? Does anyone know ? Like the offensive, defensive, logistics and artillery options to set for your squad. I think choosing artillery for example shows every other team markers on the map but im not sure. I'd like to know if there are advantages/disadvantages by picking a squad role.

    • @SoulSniperYT
      @SoulSniperYT  2 роки тому

      I think it's mainly for the commander and other SLs to know what your squad is prioritizing. It also helps players maybe avoid joining your squad if you're labeled as artillery for example, if they don't want to play artillery or want an SL who is out on the Frontline.

      I understand that completely. It can be quite crippling for some. Just try to keep things in perspective. It's only a video game. Nobody will get hurt or die. Quite literally nothing is on the line. It's just a form of entertainment.
      Still, I get that you don't want to ruin anyone else's enjoyment or hold your team back or whatever. But then again, as long as you're trying and have a decent understanding of how the game works, people shouldn't be upset. If they are, that's on them and you should find new people to play with.

Can you refill your supplies at a drop and go far away to place a second garrison, or do you have to build it within the radius of the supply drop?

    • @SoulSniperYT
