Because of this game I studied real ww2 squad formation and I can say that the core of the unit was the officer spotting and the machine gun emplacing ( together with 1-2 guys supplying the machine gun ) and the rest of the squad was supposed to spread out and look for enemy fire ( to snipe ) while machinegun starts barking. Works in HLL all the time and this is what I am always trying to achieve with my squad.

Speaking of sounds, if you're in a covered area being sneaky, stand still from time to time and listen for footsteps. If you hear footsteps and see no friendly markers near you on the map, the enemy is near. It becomes easy to surprise people when you realize this.

I do this all the time. In a second story house and hear footsteps on the wood floor below? Check your map quick. No blue dot? Enemy just pulled a B&E and you must protect your house.

Also brings up the excitement fear factor if you and a few boys in the squad are creeping along a long and tall hedgerow and you hear stomping on the otherside then you know there's a enemy squad mirroring your flank and you're about to have a short and bloody fight real fast.

As an ex nco And a inafantry Squad leader: movement reveals you, especially movement from side to side. If you need to move, Move fast And observe The surroundings all The Time. Try to avoid going over Hills unless detected already. Try to choose a route that gives you an possibility to disengage with relative ease And conceilment. When detected, move in short bursts, in Finnish army we have a proud tradition of "syöksyminen", basically every soldier has to Be able to dive from standing to prone And ready to fire with one Swift movement, fire a couple of shots And jump up And sprint two Steps or so And dive Back down. The Squad members do this one by one on repeat. Thats The best way to advance in forest. Oh And Also, never create a line of defence right in The tree line, always a couple of trees inside a tree line.
I know this video was about observing but it inspired me into writing this so there you go

Same tactics here in the Canadian military - we would move as a fireteam or section to the tune in our head "up, he see's me, down". One guy or every other guy moves while the other covers, simple but effective way of closing the distance and winning a firefight (in theory). I've just recently discovered this game but it's quickly become one of my favourites for rewarding good tactics.

The difference between standing right behind a window and standing back a few paces from a window when sniping is a world of difference. Here's the theory.
Standing against the window can do one of three things. One, your rifle can poke out of the window. Two, light can shine on your player, making it more apparent to the enemy that you're there. Three, when firing, your muzzle flash is more noticeable outside a window than inside.
Standing back just a bit grants some bonuses. Not only does it counteract all three of these things, it can also make it mildly more difficult for the enemy to hit you. For some reason, just that little teensy bit of distance can dramatically change the odds of you getting hit when receiving fire.

The further you stand from the window (or any gap in cover really) which you're shooting through, the smaller the area someone outside can shoot directly at you from.
You can be shot from anywhere you can see through your cover (and a little more around the edges of what you can see too, really). The further back you stand the narrower your field of view the less likely there will be an enemy in that field.
This does mean you have to keep moving in an arc pivoting on your window to maximise your field of awareness though.
The other issue is when less considerate players then go use your window and block your shooting and give away the position. I'll admit to a small measure of vindictive pleasure when you get to see them drop because they weren't taking enough care. Sometimes, particularly when your position was already known, this can have the benefit of the enemy thinking they've taken care of that pesky sharpshooter, an assumption you can then correct with a well placed shot.

      Well, when I went from a 24'' 16:9 1920x1080@60hz 79dpi to a 34'' 21:9 3440x1440@144hz 109 dpi screen, mainly for simracing and combat flight sims, and I noticed a massive difference in Arma3.
I could comfortably engage enemies with iron or holosights for whom I needed a small telescopic sight like an ACOG earlier.
Spotting in some combat flight sims went from "I'm blind" to "I SEE YOU!" (Cue Sauron eye😉).
IL-2 GB still is a problem due to it's lack of contrast, but In Cliffs of Dover and DCS it gas been a game changer.
And in some games like War Thunder (I did a short test when I first got the Monitor, I haven't played it in over a year and good riddance) spotting became ridiculously easy after the monitor change.
For spotting a monitor with a good contrast rating is more than just helpful.
And the wider 21:9 format also reduces FOV compressoon. And it means you'll have to scan more with your eyes instead of your hand/mouse, keeping the imsge more steady.
So the ideal Monitor has a hz rating above 100, high static contrast of 3000:1 or 4000:1, gsync compatible or freesync, a 1440p resolution and an aspect ratio of wider than 16:9.
You could go 4k, but the performsnce penalty and price penslty for it are still to high.

  • @skyjr13
    @skyjr13 Рік тому +98

Another tip. Always start your scan looking in the opposite direction of what you read. Aka if you read left to right you should start looking for targets to the right and then move left. Your brain is used to looking left to right. So if you look in the opposite direction it forces your brain to focus more which helps you spot things easier

Another tip. Join a squad that communicate and move with each other. If you have a active machine gunner in your group the officer and use the binoculars and give you insight on where to shoot at where you can lay down suppressive fire on top of actually hitting them as well. Support so when you need the supplies to lay down a Garry for the team. The officer is the head and without taking command of your group it’s going to be hard

Also from a real military perspective, didn't even learn about it in MCT but from my Sgt who was in the first invasion of Iraq. When you are scanning. Go the opposite direction of how you read, left to right = scanning right to left, and vice versa. It's unnatural for you to be looking that way, forcing you to slow down, and decreasing your chance of overlooking a potential threat. Which is the whole point of scanning, remain calm and stay slow, and don't always shoot at the first thing you see. It might be best to simply let the first group continue on, there might be more of them in your 'dead space.'

Something that's underappreciated in these games is that, often beyond skill issues discussed in the video, simply knowing the map comfortably, ideal spots for hiding and placing things, terrain height, and the distance between places, helps enormously. You gain a lot of automatic situational awareness from simply playing the map a few times (one reason why the defenders in historical WWII battles often had the advantage) moreso than looking at the "abstraction" of the terrain on a map. A lot of times when I play a hardcore shooter for the first time and bring up my map, I just can't make good sense of what I'm looking at and it leads me to be more aimless and risky in my approaches.

I went out on a limb and got this game for him, I didn't think he'd like it because of the complex mechanic and how different it is from other shooters. I also thought because it can be a dying and PTSD simulator, that the learning curve would throw him. Now it's his favorite game. :3

The key to doing well on this game is wait until others come until your sight before you go into theirs, what I mean by this is move into position when attacking then wait for the near by enemies that saw you to come look for you, another good one to get into position is throw smoke the opposite way to where you run far away from where you run as they will be focusing on the smoke.

    • @SoulSniperYT
      @SoulSniperYT  5 місяців тому +2

Yes, that's the key! Now eventually you'll have the movement and ballistics down, and map knowledge will come in time and you'll be able to play more aggressively and come out on top. But still, positioning and constantly scanning and reverse engineering the enemy's likely sightlines to you is key. Don't run along the top of a hill; instead, move down the side of the hill a ways and move along the side of the hill, for example.

This is why I play support, medic and engineer. The focus usually isn’t killing people. I also like tank crew because, well, your in a tank so you can see the enemy clearly without fear of instantly dying most of the time.
The devs have put really good accessibility options into the game and I’m really grateful for that but for a legally blind person like me I don’t think there’s much they could do to help me see the enemy better without compromising the realness of the game. I find myself pretty much pressing my face against my tv to see enemies sometimes but I still have tons of fun with the game and it’s one of my most played.

Played for about 4-5 hours last time for my very first time. I was lucky to have a best friend who has been playing for the last year and was able to put me in a private squad with him and really show me the ropes...it took me about 3 matches before I recorded my first kill. Last match of the night, I had 5 and 13 hits and eliminated 1 sherman with AT. SO MUCH FUN. Hang in there guys, I am and it's already paying off. This game is a lot of fun. I only truly saw 2 guys that I shot, the other 3 were just tree lines marked by squad leader to fire on because he saw the enemy and marked the area.

Something a lot of people don't understand:
You have to defocus your eyes. If you're scanning for movement by looking at this hill, then this hill, then that building, you're going to be way too slow. Let your vision blur slightly, don't look at anything in particular, just let your eyes do the work. You can see motion easily when defocused.
Works IRL too, but hopefully none of you have to learn that.

Essentially, learning to spot the enemy just comes down to one thing: using your brain. The common sense and typical behaviors of players points made in this video excellently summarize how to spot the enemy. Ultimately, all players have patterns and the more you recognize how they’re going to respond the more effective you will be in combating said players by not only knowing what they’re going to do, but also changing up your own patterns so they can’t do the same to you.

I don't know how I ended up watching this video and I don't even play this game, but the title intrigued me and I thought "hey, maybe this could be a good lesson for some friends who have a *difficult time* spotting enemies". I just can't help but imagine a lot of players just don't really see where they're going, almost as if it was autopilot to Shift+W forward until an enemy shoots you, hearing the enemy run towards you or you catch them because they're more oblivious.
In Hunt Showdown, knowing where the enemy is before they ever realize they're being watched is one of the most satisfying things you can achieve. It's not called Hunt for a reason. Being ready for the adrenaline when starting the fight is better than having the enemy bring that to you instead. This video almost speaks universally for any game that handles more than 3 players at the minimum in a PvP situation. Don't react to the enemy when they run up to you- KNOW, that you are about to run into the enemy and drop him before he drops you.

It's fine to hold angles in a spot far away, but when you're very close to the enemy, it's important to move around and never be in the same spot. Also listening for sounds is very important, it saves my life and helps me spot where enemies are just from the sound of gunfire.

A nifty thing you can do is purposely eject it to lure the enemy into your firing line or distract them. Troops would take the spent clip and throw it onto the ground to fool the enemy. The Germans got too comfy with the idea of a soldier emptying their clip so it was taken advantage of.

This might work in the game, but it's a fallacy in as far as this being a real tactic in combat.
No ones gonna hear it. Even if they could, no one's going to suddenly charge a position because they heard one Garand go 'ping'.
I know your post is old and it's not aimed at you personally, but this is a much used and tired bit of fiction.
