    Hello~
I currently have TMJ/TMD and an anterior open bite which was caused by two high crowns
on my teeth number 45 and 46 when I was treated for a root canal two years ago. They were so
high that my dentist had to shave them off to make them lower and aligned with other teeth. I should
have done it sooner. Anyways, however, When I sleep at night these days,
because of the muscle spasm and tight muscles around the jaw and
the temple area, my jaw suddenly snaps shut involuntarily which is very
painful and frightening. So, I am using a night guard or mouth guard
molded to my upper teeth that protect the brunt/force of the shutting of my jaws when
I am sleeping. It's very helpful and useful. Otherwise, I would not be able to sleep out of
fear of my jaw snapping and potentially biting my tongue and harming my teeth.
My question is, is it okay to use a dental/night guard when I am sleeping in order to protect
my teeth from involuntary jaw-snapping syndrome? The anterior open bite and TMJ/TMD is going to
take some time to get better hopefully. My orthodontist said I may need braces to correct it but
I decided to give it some time hoping it will get better on its own. I learned so much from all your videos!!
You remind me of my Oral and maxillofacial surgeon in Atlanta, Ga where I am from but now I am currently
    overseas. Bye~
    Thank you, Dr.Mistry!!

I have TN and I am wondering if I should attempt to do these exercises during pain flair which last about an hour or in between the pain episode. Which I fear I’ll trigger it… Either way it’s gonna hurt.

    Hello doc!
I'm having braces. And I think it moved my lower teeth to much inside until it's too close to my tongue which it's not comfortable to move my tongue when I'm speaking. It also effect my sounds.
Even when I relax my mouth, i don't feel comfortable because my tongue is a bit on my lower teeth.
I was trying to explain to my dentist. But he said he doesn't understand me because my teeth look fine. 😢

I'm sorry but I don't really know how to respond. You may want to work with a practitioner who provides Myofunctional Therapy OR with a Speech Therapist.

When I do the 6x6 exercise my teeth dont touch because I have an open bite. If this is the case should I do the exercise where my jaw naturally wants to go or should I try to align my teeth as close as I can without causing discomfort?

Bring your jaw forward and then do this.

Hi Doc, I can hear minimal grating sound only when I chew. Can this possibly be the “crepitus”? I don’t experience pain when it happens doc.

I am experiencing clicking and limited mouth opening and tinnitus from 1.5 years I am from India. I am thinking it would be disc displacement with reduction, is it possible to recapture the disc or get back the disc in to allingment by orthotics?

    • @theTMJdoc
      @theTMJdoc  Рік тому

It's possible. Sometimes we cannot eliminate the click entirely, but we can often soften it and prevent the jaw from locking (prevent disc displacement without reduction).

welp made it through shorts play list and got a list of medical documents to print out so if/when i see a tmj doctor so makes it easier on both so can see how teeth where before sure smiles (on week 15 atm got them thinking it would help tmj and migraines and dizzy spells so far its not helped) thanks for info just wondering should i wait till out of the sure smiles (from the 22 hours a day to 8hours or less) before getting seen atm chiropractors are keeping my tmj from locking closed but can tell they are strugging with the once a week visits since even in visit it can come back out multiple times in the 5 min appointment but atleast im not locking currently
