The large object that Thomas rolls under before derailing in the illustration at 1:22 is a lifting hoist. Many locomotive sheds had a hoist, in order to lift a locomotive off it's wheels for minor repairs. This also explains the lack of buffers on the siding without it being brought up in the narration. The track showing a crossing gate behind it is supposed to be Toby's line going up to the Quarry, which bypasses the stationmaster's house. Also the episode cuts out the section of narration in the book where Thomas briefly struggles to conceal sneezing due to the tickly plaster on his nose. Regards, Samuel Farris.
One minor but significant difference is in *Thomas Comes To Breakfast.* When Thomas tells the others that he's not scared he says "Pooh!" in the book but in the episode he says "Huh!" (or "Ha!"). The other instance where this change occurred was in *Ghost Train.* Similar changes occurred in *You Can't Win* and *Mavis.* Peter Sam and Mavis said "For crying out loud!" and "Fudge!" respectively. Both phrases were changed to "Fiddlesticks!" in the TV adaptations.
One thing that you didn’t mention is the fact that in the RWS book, when Thomas is repaired from the accident in Thomas comes to Breakfast, his running board is changed from the normal curved design to flat and maintained it for the rest of the books, whereas on the show Thomas’s running board remains curved the whole run.
For their nameplates in the books, it’s obvious that Thomas’s accident occurred shortly before the Scottish twins got repainted blue probably for delays of delivering blue paint at the engine works at Crovan’s gate (if you’d ask me), and those nameplates on their smoke-boxes we’re just brief to still be told apart before they got new ones
I love these video's. I never read the Railway Series because they weren't released in the Netherlands. It's cool to see the difference between the Railway Series and the TV Series
The bulls eyes still take place in these events even on TV, as Daisy had never met a bull till her encounter with Champion, Thomas not being seen or mentioned, and Daisy being frightened by bulls as said in percys predicament.
However in the End of the Story, Thomas returns from the works for his new flat running board In the tv series his Running board is Normal and wasn’t adapted in episode from Percy’s Predicament
I should note that the illustrations in the story “Daisy” (at about 4:50) seem to depict Daisy with TWO faces, as in the illustration right before the one where she is looking at the milk van, her face was pointing AWAY from the van, and had a white headlamp, when looking at the van however, she appears to have a second face as she then has a red tail lamp. Whether or not this is an illustration error or not I don’t know, but if it isn’t, think of that…
That's right. I don't know why the Reverend wrote that; it's quite unusual for locomotives to have their names painted on them, although some tank engines do, like the LBSCR A1s and A1Xs (Stepney's basis).
@@gregkiteos1936 Well, it could be to stop the Caledonian twins from swapping tenders and pretending to be each other again, since as shown by Bill and Ben, name plates can be easily removed, while paint would be much more difficult.
Although an error on tv, “Percy never being at the quarry before” may notify how he wasn’t at the quarry as it was only 1 of his first times there, which can be why he claims to manage.
You forgot to mention in Percy's Predicament that Thomas's Front Running Board was straightened when he returned from the works as opposed to the adaption which had it stayed curved. ^^;
as a kid i never watched the episodes in order as they were on random vhs tapes at my elementary school. so i was never introduced to daisy until years later and thought mavis was the first female engine.
In the Railway Series story of ''Thomas Comes To Breakfast'' which the episode is based on, Thomas crashed into the stationmaster's house as a result of a siding ending on the road having no buffers to stop him, causing him to run off the rails and onto the road until he reached the house as shown in the illustration at 1:22 . This was not done in the episode adaptation due to the models heavily being powered by track, so the rails had to be led to the stationmaster's house as seen at 1:34 However, the Ladybird and Buzz Book adaptations of this episode uses the original Railway Series dialogue. Is that worth noting?
Extra difference, in the adaptation of Thomas comes to breakfast, Thomas boasting to Toby and Percy takes place at the same time as the events of brake van, while the book doesn't.

Can I just say how creepy looking Thomas' face looks in the first story's episode adaptation? The face they used is just so wired, and it even frightened me as a kid.
Yeah, me too. All the close-up scale faces are nightmare fuel and that one is particularly bad. Doesn't help that they shoot it directly head on and have those huge bulging eyes looking directly at the camera.
The reason the twins are black is the director did not want to have too many engines of the same color. Same reason for small engines not all being red
Something that's bothered me ever since I was a child was how angry he got at them. It literally was neither of their faults that their accidents happened.
I am absolutely loving this series. It is interesting to see which stories got adapted and which ones didn't

Thomas Comes To Breakfast is the one of the most well known Thomas stories
I love this book, also some of my favorite episodes
Yet another saga of episodes that I love to death.

@@oppoexpunged ok...
This was yet another great analysis.
Something I've noticed- Thomas usually sleeps in the red brick shed at Tidmouth in the RWS, but Percy occupies it in the tv series.

Always great to see another of these appear on the feed, there are a true love letter 👍
Great work as always
I got an ad for a game called bullseye ball after watching this video. I thought it was too perfect not to mention.
“Keep your old bull-“
Ad plays
Also I love Percy's perdermint
Mmm, yes. Very fine cocoa. ;)

Yeah they tend to do this for all diesels with two cabs in the railway series, so definitely intentional
@@Gamebuilder2000Someone’s made the case that Toby has two faces as well

In the railway series story The Deputation, it’s said that the Scottish twins have they’re names painted on instead of having nameplates

Wooden posts wouldn’t stop engines like buffers - as Thomas breaks the post in episode
For Percy being next to daisy during her argument, it’s possible that he has to take the milk for her

It was a mishap on TV as the scrapyard near Wellsworth is used instead of the route to the quarry

No wonder why I didn’t like that episode when I was younger.
I think the books had much better continuity personally.
Agreed.
I thought this already existed
also the bull in the book is a red angus and in the tv is a Hereford
And they mention how Thomas went to the works in Daisy?
Are you still up for more?
5:41 i didnt know george was in the rws
The reason the twins are black is the director did not want to have too many engines of the same color. Same reason for small engines not all being red
Honestly I think it works better that both the NG engines and the Scottish twins didnt have their colors changes for tv
I like dasiy face in the rows
I know you are going to do the 17 book next
Next is gallad old engine number #17
What about the stationmaster heading out to shut off Thomas’s steam?
Nice
Why’d Awdry create MANY arrogant, cocky, silly, ill-tempered, fussy, pompous, grumpy, way overconfident, devious, teasing, and unpleasant?
Boastful
The Fat Controller was very out of order towards Percy and Thomas in this book

Still it should teach them not to be arrogant and careless
@@terencewilliammckenna6121 true, but I do hope the carless cleaner and Percy’s crew also got a bollocking because on a real railway that’d happen

The next two episodes should be interesting, considering I don't believe they were covered on your old channel.
Many book adaptions of Thomas comes to breakfast use the original dialogue from the RWS book
You forgot 1 more change in the book Thomas running board became flat, thankfully Thomas's running board is still dipped down in the episode.
The houses at Farquhar in the story daisy is actually Farquhar station
The stories toke place in 1960
Interesting.
Cool
Never build a building close to tracks
The crash is good in the rws but in the tv series it is more good the bush in the tvs is different in the rws daisy face is green but in the tvs

Hearing a different voiceover for these episodes is wierd
I’d rather Thomas not be cheeky and conceited
