What this company has done in 50 years is astounding… to be 50 years young and achieve a place at the top of the drum world in almost half that time is truly mind blowing.
In the 90’s at 13 I started with a late 60’s 3 piece Ludwig Classic, a few years later my parents got me a Yamaha Power V Special for Xmas, after a handful of years I sold that and saved up for a Gretsch Renown Maple… beautiful kit.. sold the Ludwig and I now have the Gretsch as my workhorse, a PDP New Yorker for my home practice kit (which is actually amazing for what it is, I love it and it only cost me $150!) and my showstopper is a freakin DW Collector's series in Black Pearl Lacquer w/ Black Nickel hardware, decked out with 9000’s… it’s unreal.
As an amateur drummer, I think I’m doing alright… still working towards that sponsorship! 😂
I wish that Don and John live for ever. The biggest Brains in Drumming History.
I like this man. I want to buy his things. 🙂
My most favorite manufacturer videos is when you get the inventor, the designer, the manufacturing engineer and the company President all involved in the interview. With DW you get all of them in one amazing person, Don Lombardi. I wish I could learn what Don Lombardi has forgotten.
As final customers sometimes we don't understand the high prices on hardware and all the effort that has been put on developing every single part. I am a happy DW Collectors owner and couldn't be happier with the final product!
After seeing this video, I will still use DW!!!
Lombardi's the Steve Jobs of drum hardware.
And John Good is the Bill Gates of drums. Put em together, and what have you got? Drum Workshop!!! The best drums of all time!!!!!!!!!
yeah but, unlike Steve, Lombardi is actually a nice guy.
Never thought of it. Really nice to know about all of DW stuff. Just wishing to have an DW kit soon. This was really cool.
I just purchased a PDP concept maple kit with all DW 9000 hardware and pedals. I was a budget, so I opted for the PDP kit, for now. But, went all out on the hardware. OUTSTANDING quality by far on everything. Thanks again DW for such awesome equipment.
Thank you for sharing. 👍
I think the concept series is just as good as the design series. I have the concept maple exotic and it sounds great and it looks like a 3,000$ kit. I trust anything DW puts their name on.
I love DW so much. And that was awesome that little groove or jam session at the end of the video
DW's customer service is awesome!
There are no words to say but bad ass.
So many Arambulas, good on you DW.
that drum drum duet at the end was amazing!!!!
Great showcase guys. Thanks for breaking down the differences and special components in your lines. This helps a TON with my upcoming purchase.
I've actually chatted with Mr. Lombardi over in forums about Pedals and cams, etc.
I did switch because I was looking for a round cam with a better linear response and while the design and engineering of these new ones are outstanding I do miss the manufacturing quality of my DW5000 double pedals that I got for a discount (80 bucks) at Best Buy when I was getting started, even when they were made in Taiwan. A true work horse, those guys went to Hawaii and back in my checked in luggage and were inspected and taken apart by TSA, they still work. I'll never forget those pedals and still have them.
I just wish the cost could go down and that the pedal design itself was a little longer and less like a foot, but I know I'm the exception. Also offer the option of the turbo round cam with the standard 5000's.
These things are like Cadillacs and they are made for loud music with their huge heavy beaters.
Just got my brand new DW5000 AD4 single bass drum pedal... Best pedal I've played! thank you DW from England! Also, glad to see some more from Cobus! :D
Thanks for posting this.
Hugely insightful and interesting. The only DW gear I have currently is a 9000 kick pedal. It was recommended to me by a friend who said 'once you play one of these, you wont play anything else' - He was right! Currently saving for some more DW toys!
I could watch this video on repeat until the end of eternity. I freakin love DW hardware almost as much as I love drum accessories in general!
Since 2 years, my entire hardware setup is DW. ^^
I have the 9000 series kickdrum pedal for 2 years now. I adjusted it to my personal preference, no problems at all, as smooth as day 1. I have both my snaredrum and my racktom mounted in a 9000 snare stand. I just open up the baskets and the tripods, the memorylocks take care of all the rest.
And I have 6000 series hardware, hihat and cymbalstands.
I really couldn't be happier with 'just' cymbalstands than the 6000 series.
I think they have that certain something, that does it for me. They are lightweight (I take my entire setup - 4 stands and a hihat - in two hands! Just one walk from flightcase to stage!)
And because they are lightweight, they seem to make the cymbals resonate better too.
The hihat is just a dream to play! You really have to try it, to actually believe it. But it is amazing.
Couldn't be happier! Really. Best buy I ever did.
Tim Mertez its really great to read this from someone who uses them daily. Thanks for sharing!
You're welcome. And I want to add, for the readers: I'm not endorsed in any way, so I ain't obliged to say those things.
DW really made this drummer's life a fair bit easier.
i would totally use them all at once !
Great video
I've had my 5002AH since 1997. Found another one ten years ago.
The single chain is my favorite!
I also have three stands, a bunch of dog bones, and cymbal holders.
I got my first dw 9700 stand in 1996. I was 20. I had no idea a stand could influence the sound of my cymbals so much!
Exactly the video I need :) Thanks guys! :)
I love DW hardware because of the spirit of innovation that drives its development. I've had a 9002 double pedal for more than 10 years, now, and despite much abuse and neglect (even rusting in the rain), it still feels better than some fresh-from-the-box brand new pedals from competitors.
You prolly dont care but does any of you know of a way to get back into an instagram account??
I was dumb forgot the account password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me!
@Judson Braylen instablaster =)
@Maxwell Lucas i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and im trying it out now.
Seems to take a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Maxwell Lucas it did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. Im so happy!
Thanks so much, you really help me out!
@Judson Braylen Happy to help =)
Purely Phenomenal.
Thanks
I never noticed how long DW has been around. Then watch the UA-cam videos of all these Grunge bands using DW drum sets. Like Soundgarden and Pearl Jam.

gracias para bueno trabajo dw workers! serioso.. from madmiketv
Love DW hardware.
Love my 5000 pedal… The only qualm I have is that, to pack into a hard case, I have to disassemble the parts. The competitor, Iron Cobra, allows you to pack without the need to do so.
that clutch is genius! ive had people steal my hi hat clutches at shows and stuff so leaving it on a hi hat (which is not as easy to steal) is brilliant to me
I follow DW drums channel on youube since 2010, and I'm still waiting for a video of John Good an Don Lombardi playing their drums....
Great!
I wish they still made that performance kit in blue. I'd buy it so fast!
i like cobus' setup, his toms are placed nicely in reach with curved rack, without that its a pain in the ass to comfortably set up the toms imo,
helpful info
Randy A. I love mine also. I use a double pedal case so all I have to remove is my beater.
42:25 the quality co ntrol is awesome!
Personal 2 favorite company is SJC and DW. Own a sjc sounds really good but when I jump on a Dw drum kit dang..
You guys are awesome. If you guys ever need another person on your video staff Give me a holler 😄😄
Great stuff, high quality made. I have lots of DW hardware for my different kits and I'd like to have it consistent. And that's the problem … I'm based in Germany and most of the accessories and spare parts has lead time of 3, 4, 5 or more months. This is unfortunately not acceptable for the working drummer …
been using dw5000 for ages...i still prefer the 5000 then 9000
“You know, I love to tinker. But all the tinkering in the world isn’t useful unless it starts with a good idea. So, look around for a need, and start coming up with ideas to fill that need. One idea will lead to another and before you know it, you’ve done it!! See a need, fill a need.” Bigweld.
Could you make a video comparing the height of the 9700 and 9701? Never seen one at the stores.
Sorry to post on such a old video but I just got my 9000 rack. I know it's all about options but what is the generic theory of using the V Angle Clamp? I couldn't tell if it would be more helpful for quick tom movements since it doesn't seem to be necessary for cymbal arms since they have the adjustable angle via the boom arm holder already. I hope all my terms here aren't too confusing.
i have a dw 3000 pedal and i love it! is it the same pedal as the 7000 ?
I love his pot leaf shirt lol
Hi there.. can you do something about the top hi hat cymbal to prevent keyholing on the top cymbal? you know... to avoid the metal-to-metal contact between top cymbal and hi hat clutch! This would be great!
Dear DW drum team, first of all I would like thank you for this video. I enjoyed to get all those background informations - for what it takes to produce such good products like these. For myself I use DW 9000 hardware and I´ll never wanna give it away anymore. I got one question to you guys: What is that good looking "table" Cobus is using for his phone or whatever while he plays his song? please look at minute 0:56:09 .I hope that this is available at a DW drums retailer, I would be glad if you could give me that name of the product. thank you.
Hello tmoondrmz its a percussion table made by Gon Bops Percussion
How do you slide with LOGO there?
dw makes amazing hardware straight up. I don't think any other manufacturers compare to their hardware. it's just too bad that for many drummers it can be difficult to obtain them based on the prices. I get it they're the highest quality so the price reflects this but imagine how many drummers could be even better if they could get their hands on some 9000 series pedals!
I have a concern that i would like to address to the nice folks at DW's manufacturing dept.. I have always used your pedals, and now, i'm going old school rerto with your DW 6000 turbo single pedal, as it is made exactly like my old 5000 pedals, which helped me perfect my heel-toe technique.. I would never think of using any other pedal on the market, so this is coming from a loyal DW pedal customer..
However, there is a particular flaw in the manufacturing of the 6000 series pedal, and that is the bass drum hoop clam lock screw.. I'm referring to the screw that holds the clamp in place.. Because i use different sized bass drums with different sized hoop thicknesses for many different gigs, the screw started to bend in a forward position, and this is after the locking mechanism was locked into place.. Luckily for me, all i had to do was bring the original screw to my local hardware store and found a pack of screws that were the exact same size match and fit perfectly, only that they were about an inch longer, but still works perfectly..
Now i know that this is not an adjustment issue because i've been using this type of pedal for a while now and know how to adjust and lock the hoop clamp.. I'm thinking it may be an issue with the type of screw being used, or where it is placed ?.. As of now i have the hoop clamp lock nut fastened all the way to it's lowest position, and adjust it more with the wing nut..
I really don't know why this is because i'm no engineer , but i do know that this problem needs to be addressed.. Any suggestions to avoid future bending of that screw ?
I'll admit, i am a bit of a lead foot, but have really good technique, which is only natural after 32 years of playing, but still love the fluidity and lightness of the 6000 series pedal, and aesthetically , it looks great with my kite.. So with that being said, i hope you fantastic folks at DW can fix this problem.. Any and all suggestions are welcome.. Cheers !

so cobus uses dw rack straight and 2 curved pieces?. Also anyone know what kind of rack clamps he uses for the toms?
+Green Rabbit Here is a link to our accessories. You can take a look and see what you prefer. www.dwdrums.com/factoryaccessories/clampsystems.asp
What's the name of the song that Mr. Potgeiter plays?
I think it's something from his band Ventura Lights? If you haven't already, check them out! :D
I have two new 9000 DW hi hat stands. I use the long rod but it is always unscrewing. Easy enough to retighten but is there a way to prevent the rod from turning?
Bi-Polar Express You can try a little teflon tape on the threading and put it on the opposite way of the threading so it doesn't come off if you remove the rod. It could also be how the hat is being hit, etc, and worst case scenario you can order a new rod. I hope this helps!
Idk if this is a dumb quotation can you upgrade the 7000 double pedal single chain to a double chain?
no sorry.
What kind oh hats does cobus use?
That clacker is
All clacked out
That was Neil peart on the lathe 😂👌
What is the largest snare drum size that a 9000 snare stand can hold? Can it hold a 16 or 18" floor tom?
and how did you mount the bass drum with the design series kit?
Hi peteroks12, it will hold up to 15". The DWCP9300 holds 13" 14" and 15" and the DWCP9303 holds 10" and 12". We hope this helps. With the Design kit we mounted the "gong" bass drum with clamps to the hoops. Those clamps then attached to the drum rack. Thanks for asking. :)
I was a Pearl girl but am proud to say I am now a DW girl!
were proud to have you MJ Dickson
Similar story for me, except I’m a boy.
you guys need to bring the adjustment up above, mount them on the snare drum clamp arm, the bass pedal mount screw should be on a u-joint up near the top of the pedal, you guys are not thinking, If I was working for DW, I would change the drumming world...yes I am him. I designed this stuff, 25 years ago,
5000 pedal truly is the smoothest felling pedal out thair
lmao don still loving that mj
hay videos traducidos al castellano?
Is your kick pedal testing machine available for gigs? I like a steady down beat.
I see a lot of negative comments on here. You don't how much they are paying their employees and they could easily ship all the work overseas.
💖💖💖💖
i need dw5000 pedals replacement parts, that top part where the springs loops arounds (the piece that you can choose the angle of the beater) and the shaft is worn out, a bit pricey. I had these dw5000 for over 10 yrs
+metalmessenger www.dwdrums.com/factoryaccessories/partsandaccessories.asp
+dw drums im looking for the red rod(dw5000) that goes from bearing to bearing, the one that holds the cam and the beater
Hi. here is a link with the Schematic for the 5000. You can order any parts from our dealers. Cheers. 😀 www.dwdrums.com/images/info/schematics/Pedals/DWCP5000AD3/Single/DWCP5000AD3.pdf
+dw drums thx that will help, im also thinking about changing my pedals from a chain link to a nylon strap, all the parts that i couldnt find are listed here.
dw drums thank you, with your lead i was able to get all the parts i need, my dw5000 are better than out of the box, with my springs upgrade.
What happened to the DW 8000 series
kevindrums57 the 8000 series is no longer in production.
Still waiting for CandyLand #5, c'mon DW.
Chris L we'll never see it again.
I was interested in getting a concept kit (im on a budget) and a pdp rack but could I put dw boom arms on the pdp rack to get the features like the wing that holds the felt and the part under the sleeve to tighten the space between felts? If that would work I would love to know. Thanks
lucas wroblewski Yes. 😀
He said that DW pioneered a remote hihat when the actual fact is that a guy named Antonio Šutej of Antonio Drums from Croatia who sold his patent to DW made it.
Here's the link to the patent: www.google.com/patents/US6977333
Michael Scott is a drummer?
Like 13k in 9000's alone!! Man
Curt’s playing was good, but honestly, it could’ve used more cowbell.
와우굿
Can you please upgrade your drive shaft.
I have a 2 leg 9000 hi hat stand and I notice Cobus is having the same issue.. it rocks too much keeping time. 1:05:40
I have that with 3 legs, and that never happens.
I only have 2 DW stands: a 5000 hi hat stand, and a 9000 double tom stand.
How do you like them?
@@jareddoran6605 they’re awesome
Update: last year for Christmas, I got a DW 3000 Hardware pack!!!
I might be the only person playing 5002 turbo model. I just couldn’t articulate with the accelerators.
how did i never stumble onto this video prior 🤔also ... how hard can it get to have a damn manual on dw pedal that a bit more specific than : well move stuff arround and figure shit out k enjoy your new crazy adjustable pedals alone in your corner O-o. For real, I suppose im neat picking really but i wanted to know what is the alleged benefit draw back of each settings .. like idk higher beater = more power but increase stroke weight factor ... but for all adjustment including the board height. would have saved me lot of time =_=
I still like my demon drive but everything else I use DW
lol cobus is wearing a Truth shirt.
Truth was a Christian clothing company back in the day. We wasn’t wearing a truth drums shirt (if that’s what you were hinting at) haha
he says goto info at drum channel .com for the patents. That is not a website.
Hi Cage Cafe info@drumchannel.com is for questions or info about drumchannel.com If your interested in patent info here is a link. Let me know if this is what you were looking for :) www.dwdrums.com/info/legal.asp
dw drums Thanks, It was a question he asked about DW patents, I didn't realize he would answer the question at the end of the video.
Cage Cafe , when the show was streamed live there was little contest. Sorry, I didn't realize what you meant at first. Take care.
ok thanks
Having the top felt attached to the wing nut is not good if you have a cymbal holder attached to the bass drum (tom holder clamp, etc.). Every time you play the bass drum, it rattles. It's very annoying.
Eu tenho um!! Achei no lixo
Want a job as Terry Bozzio's drum tech? Errrr...think I'll pass
1:05:37
What! Quibus! How is no one talking about he says cobus! lol
pioneered the chain drive pedal? What about Sonor's signature series pedal from the 1982 catalogue? I use a Sonor sig series and to me it looks an awful lot like a DW 9000 series; I use a DW 9000 series hi hat which looks a lot like a sonor 82 catalogue sig series hi hat. Sonor lead the way in so many aspects of decent hardware. Their hardware was made to last forever just about, double braced, memory locks, levers instead of wings nuts, rubber instant release grips for cymbal stands, quick release lever snare stand baskets etc etc. Not to mention using woods that previously had not been used like bubinga, based on actual research about the hardness of wood and there associated sonic qualities. Sonor were one of the first drum companies to use Beech and Birch woods extensively in their top shelf drums. Credit where its due DW. www.drumarchive.com/sonor/Sonor1982.pdf
Paul Speter Here is some basic information of DW Drums. 👍 www.dwdrums.com/info/dwstory.asp
I believe the chain drive was invented by Frank Ippolito, who modified Camco pedals. Even if you allow DW to count Camco's creations as their own, I don't think the chain drive counts.
I am the king of drums
i can leak the info. they are in fact considering a direct drive pedal
We've had a direct drive pedal for a few years now. 😃
Is cobus South African
Yes.
Did Don wear a marijuana leaf shirt on purpose? reference around 40:21
One drum tech job I'll pass on.
so, they're called 9000 because if you have all that series of hardware you'll have 9000 pounds of tubing?
lol
They should show this video to Donal thrump so he can see DW has hard working mexicans
9000 pedals are smooth and buttery, but lightweight feel? Not so much.
Id say if anyone was after a lightweight pedal they should just get a cheap 40 dollar pedal with no pedal base.
+Simon McDowell No, they should get something like Yamaha dfp9500 or (for longboarders) the Tama Speed Cobra
+Frank Larssen ...I'm talking about feel. Lightweight feel
+Frank Larssen actually you know what, you're right about the speed cobra. Haven't tried the Yamaha yet. I guess what I was saying was most high end pedals I have seen tend to be quite heavy although I will admit that not many beat the dw pedals in weight. I have a baseless pedal and it's great for a 16" bass drum. The cheapest one Yamaha has.
You should try out the Yamaha´s if you get the chance. They have great balance and power despite their lightweight feel.
