What unexpected benefits have you found in your DAWless workflow? Any regrets?
It's really helped me with decision fatigue, as you mentioned. Having limited options is the best support for creativity. I'm also recording hardware via the Model 12, but I struggle with arranging in Ableton afterwards. It definitely feels like a barrier to creativity.
Exactly! I haven't used Ableton, but there might be other DAWs that have a more streamlined approach for simply arranging and mixing multitracks. I'm very happy with Mixbus, but a lot of people say good things about Reaper.
With Hardware in Front of you: playing melodies whenever you want to instead of browsing vsts for the perfect Kick Drum...for example ;-)
Nice concise summary of the dis/advantages.
Didn't realize it was a trend, but having used the Zoom L-8 for 3-4 years, I feel like the way it enables a computer-less, hands-on recording experience keeps things feeling musical and inspired. Then mixing and editing in a DAW afterwards gives all the power and flexibility I could ever want. The computer stays in one room (work), the music instruments in another (play). It's a distinction that makes my brain happy.
Exactly, I think these mixer/recorders where the final missing piece that completed the whole DAWLESS experience for me, while still being able to mix in the box and get it sounding great in the end.
I really enjoyed this sharing of your setup tips from your personal experience
Thanks man :) Hopefully it helps other musicians in their UA-cam endeavors
Not only can I do it without a DAW, I can do it without a WINDOW.
Windowless is the next level 🤯😂
This is just what I've been looking for. I've never enjoyed using a DAW. Just having a way to record and loop my instruments is so much more seemless.
Glad I could help! It seems like more and more people are coming to the same conclusion.
