Your saying pull in towards yourself was the "ah-ha!" tip for me. When you think about it, you're ultimately pulling to the CENTER! Thanks, Simon. Love your videos
Fantastic Simon! That's the wheel I'm learning on at home and I love it. So helpful to see your tips on centering, I'm going to practise now :)
Thank you Simon, I always like to know the "why" things are done. Sometimes it's more important than knowing "what" needs to be done!
Thanks Simon! I'm able to show my high school students that the things I say are true! I appreciate you taking time to get your words and skills in a video.
I was your Assistant at that workshop in Walnut Creek , Ca. Your techniques validated a lot for me. Thank you and I am still practicing.
Good to have you back, I hope your trip was productive and enjoyable!
Hi Simon, thank you
so much for taking your time to post such instructive videos, they are helping me a lot. Cheers from Brazil.
Your videos are so good, so helpful, so generous. Thank you so much,.
Concise and easy to follow. I'm a beginner potter. Thanks, very useful. Recently bought your book. You have a superb collection of hats.
I've been watching Simon for a few weeks. In that time, set up my studio and started practicing after years of not throwing. He has so many great tips, and like probably most, am getting addicted to his videos. Thanks Simon!
You all probably dont care at all but does anybody know a way to log back into an Instagram account..?
I somehow lost my login password. I love any tricks you can offer me.
@Clay Onyx instablaster ;)
@Cade Thomas Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im in the hacking process atm.
Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
@Cade Thomas It worked and I finally got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thanks so much, you really help me out!
@Clay Onyx you are welcome :D
I love your little wheel. Thanks for the tips.
Peter, from Saskatoon
I've been struggling lately with centering. Thank you so much for this video. I know see what I was doing wrong!
What a neat and helpful video! Thank you very much.
thank you you are so kind and helpful you are so blessed.
In the beginning for me, I was not sure when it was center. Visually it would look centered then the teacher would come by and say it is not centered. Finally she said something to me that helped. She said when it is centered your hands will know it, they won't be shaking as the clay goes around. I can now quickly center and be sure about it. Love your videos Simon! Thank you!
Thank you for sharing your technique on centering. It is a little different from the way I️ was taught, but helpful in describing how to do it with my new students.
I️ will recommend your videos to my students!
Greetings from Kentucky!

PS ... I️ don’t know why those ??? are showing up in places through out my comments. 🙄
I am a beginner. I have learned to close my eyes and feel the clay centering and not trust my eyes. Whatever works, right?
Awesome!!thank you for the advice i have to practice practice practice but i think this video will help:)!!!!
Brilliant ..thanks for sharing x
Love it!!
Thank you Simon.
Just beginning to teach myself how to throw. There are days when I can't center to save my life......and then there are days that I can center with no problem. My biggest problem is "centering down". The clay seems to go off center as I'm pushing down...I can't wait to try your tips!!
Yes...Sir!!
All Hail Simon!
I'm focusing in ceramics for my undergrad, this is my final semester in clay. Throwing has been the biggest challenge by far; my large hollowed-out sculptures have always seemed easy in comparison. Centering is a huge issue for me and my tiny hands, and this video is brilliant! Thank you so much! Do you have any tips on how to avoid knocking it off center when you go to actually begin forming the hole in a cylinder, bowl, vase form, etc.?
Don't let go! Hold onto the clay with one hand holding the other and let the fingers on your inside hand find center (they know how). You can't center with 2 hands, they must work together as one.
Nothing is more important than the basics: the fundamental skills. I'm glad you have taken the time to share your technique. I personally think that it is more difficult to center a pot than to throw the shape of the pot.
Do you think that your ability to center reflects whether your essence is also centered on a particular day?
Works!
God i love the mtn dew commercials
I can't center! I cannot do the coning up and down. So frustrated. I have spent weeks and weeks practicing. One side will be thick, the other thin. 😭😭😭😭😭
!!!
What wheel are you using please?
