    I’m new to the wheel ,after 7 tries about an hour each time and cleanup! I began to doubt that I could learn this ! I even thought about I might be a lefty instead of right handed all my life ! And then I watched your video!! From the first example onwards I needed every trouble shooting example to let me see my mistakes! Oh did I need this ! Bless you, for sharing your expertise. The best on you tube!

    Oh no! It stopped, that was the most crucial part, 😫 that close up and you being at that angle was so good! Thank you for your instruction and taking this time simon, you are so generous with both.

    Being able to see positive-negative space is a real help when shaping a pot , even just a cylinder; that is, the space of the pot's vertical edge and the air-space that butts up to it. Both are equally important.

    One of your best videos ever Simon! Some of this has never been explained before. Let alone how to correct things. I’ll be referring to this so much when I throw next. Thank you!

    This is superb. Really helpful to see how I'm going wrong and pointing out how to sort it. Explaining the details of how the clay reacts and how to hold is so helpful.

    Thanks! It looked like you were done and I prepared to make a comment because my common error preventing me from getting mugs beyond a certain height wasn't addressed. I know I'm not unique in this area. Haha. But then you went back to the wheel, and I think you addressed my problem! My cylinders tend to get a bit too thin about 2/3 up and too thick the rest of the way. I frequently have to cut them off. I think what you showed when you first start to lift the clay is a key. Thank you very much!

    Thank you so much! Ever since I got my new shimpo, I have not been able to throw a cylinder. I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. But from your video, I realize I'm not getting the clay centered perfectly. Maybe its not me and its the new wheel???? I am a beginner, so I'm sure it mostly me. But I seem to be able to center at the studio???

    Hi again from rural Japan. 16:48: Regarding the demon "Torque". I wonder if it can often begin during insufficient/unskilful wedging. Also, I find it happens when I pull the clay up faster than the wheel speed. Thanks!

    • @d.jensen5153
      @d.jensen5153 4 роки тому

      Demon Torque is right. I'm still trying to find the right clay consistency. Such a bugger that softer clay means less torque resistance. Sometimes I feel like there's no way to win.

    Do you use an outdoor camcorder so you're able to wipe off all sticky things? Seems no matter how hard I try everything within 3' of my work area has finger prints and splatters on it. Pulled my camcorder out of the box once and within minutes....

  • @chrispya1

    My main problem is difficulty lifting evenly. I get thin spots or I can't get it to lift past a certain point so I can't complete the lift. More water doesn't necessarily help.
    *sigh* Practice.

    Wheel speed is important but what about the head shake. How much head shake is required for producing tankers. Is it simply a Stevie Wonder or are we talking about a full Ray Charles.
