    Hi, Simon!
    After making pots for 45 years, full-time off and on, I thought I knew a lot. HA!! Thank you so much for all your tips! So many things I never saw before, probably should have been taught in the first place and wasn't. You have reaffirmed my main reason for making pots--there is ALWAYS something new to learn, something great to try, and wonderful people in the clay community!! Thank you for sharing your time and expertise with us!

    Hello Simon,
    DebraRay here,
    I'm still teaching a little bit of pottery, and have used 5 wheels like this one / another company, for the past 8 years or so, 2 of them in school setting right at the moment.. I do use this smaller wheel
    in the mountains in a tent!
    We tried it with smaller generator 1200, needed more power, maybe inverter, to keep wheel running smoothly, works great strt to camper 110. They weigh about 32 lbs, I've thrown about 15 - 18 lbs on mine, over 500 pots, with out to much drag only problem is width of pots, just like smaller bats, slip tray and motor tower get in the way. I'm glad to see you again and your review on this version by Shimpo.
    Best to you and yours!
    DASRAY

    I have a wheel like this one your showing, my husband thought it was for kids use only. He seen your demo and he stated he was mistaken because of the size, he was pleased and happy to see how nice of work you did on it. I enjoy all your videos. Thanks for sharing about the Shimpo Aspire wheel!

      Yes the wheel is a proper machine not a toy ! ...and quite capable to boot !

    Welcome back. Moving sucks, but you always seem to find really cool digs.The little shimpo looks like a good match for your tiny kiln( the test kiln)Perhaps that Ron Popeil(The seller of the Popeil pocket fisherman) dude can put it all together as a package and call it the Popeil pocket pottery.....!

    Great to see you again. Thinking about buying a Shimpo Aspire. Thanks for the demo. It helped. Good luck as you readjust. Anxious to see you working again on more pots!

    Thank you Simon. I am new to you and your videos. Love them and you. Just purchased the Aspire and am concerned about the Wobble, but after watching you I can see I should be able to handle it. Thanks again.

    Hi Simon....I bought a shimpo aspire after watching this review. I am having some troubles getting a good center with 4 lb. for a plate because I feel like the wheel base moves downwards. Would you be willing to do more demonstrations using this wheel? I also bought the Bailey Quicktrim II for this wheel but haven't figured out how to use it for mugs. Cheers! You are a great teacher!

    Thankyou for the review. Im trying to decide what kind of wheel I should get as a beginner. I like the kick wheel at school, but it is pretty big and takes up alot of room, so until I have more space, something like this may be adventageous. Thankyou, again.

    can you just buy a car battery and the inverter and run it? I have a workshed with no power and can't park my car next to it. SO could i just throw a batter on a shelf (away from water) and get the inverter with the clamps? What kind of battery would I get?

    Simon, i s ent a private email earlier, but have not seen a reply, I understand how busy you are. Would you advise me that your 75/25 red clay slip/iron oxide can successfully be fired in oxidation in and electric kiln to cone 5 with good results? I have been so in awe of your finished pieces with such simple glazing I would like to try with my students. Thanks so much for all your great tips. After 40 plus years, i can still learn a lot from people like you.

    Hi Simon, I purchased the aspire and only just now have tried to use it. I am new to the wheel and I am having a hard time with the clay not sticking to the plastic. Trying to find a wonderbat, but not having much luck. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Love all of your videos; even if I am not at a particular process at this time.

    Lost my studio up North last year and still haven't fully recovered. There is a large Anagama being built in downtown Detroit I can help with but I don't want to do a studio in my house here in Dearborn, too many restrictions, no kilns allowed. Good luck & keep it simple.

    Hi Simon - would you recommend the lever over the pedal? It was great to see you talk through the benefits of this little wheel.

    Wondering if you feel this has good longevity, now that you've had it a few years?

    How do the pots fare when you bring them back from the mountain or river? I would think the bumps along the way might damage the drying pots being transported in the car.

    PLEASE could you answer a question for me?
    I've just bought the Shimpo Aspire. When the wheel starts turning, there is a quiet "tapping" sound coming from the motor. When it gets faster and to full speed, the tapping sound is more prominent (and slightly annoying). Could you please let me know if your Shimpos also have this tapping sound, or if you can only here the normal constant hum of the motor? Kind regards, Richard.

      It's probably the bat wobbling on the pins. Drilling the holes deeper should fix it.

    • @RichMiniatures
      @RichMiniatures 2 роки тому

      @@andrewketley71 thanks but it makes the noise without the wheel even attached. They sent me a replacement belt and the tapping noise is more quiet but hopefully it won't be a bigger problem in the future. It's got a two year warranty so we'll see

    Hi, there is a question about this pottery wheel leveling, is it important to make leveling every time you move it to a new place?

      Well I prefer the Leach treadle wheel for 90% of thrown work that I make. I find it more a meditative wheel to use, slower and I ca get more feeling into my work. Also I have used these wheels for a long time so I’m kind of used to them. Also great in a power outage :)

    • @sleachpots
      @sleachpots  10 років тому

      Not sure exactly, about 6lbs I am guessing....has no problem with that.
