    Thank you! I totally agree with the scalp! I’ve a few months in and my scalp was so itchy and oily. I’ve even gotten pimples. Def adding in a sulfate cleanse every now and then helps. I also brush and blow dry with some heat bc I don’t have time to dry for 6 hours 😂 thanks always for your videos and the Facebook group!! ❤️

    I started my journey with the CGM, and it tremendously helped my hair after being straightened every day. After about 2 years I finally decided to stop because my hair was getting so damaged and I was losing my curls. Ever since I stopped, my hair has been so much better!! I also love brushing my hair, feels amazing on my scalp, and ill never go back to the CGM now. I am still a part of a CGM Facebook group (just because), they are pretty mean! They definitely look down on anyone that breaks any rule.

      I’m so glad you found something that works for you! It is unfortunate that the CGM groups are unnecessarily rude and condescending!

    This is so spot on! I started taking care of my curls about 3 and half years ago, and did an already adaptation to the Curly Girl Method (as a wavy/curly) I just couldn't do without shampoo completly. After 2 and half years I added Sulphates to my routine because my scal was feeling "iffy", and thank the universe I think it saved my hair... Now I am re-introducing silcones because I am curious to see how my hair will react, especially because I live in a very cold and dry place (-29 celsius) and it might just give me that extra protection from the freezing temps I need. I stopped dying my hair, will use aryuvedic herb masks and henna from time to time, so I am less "stressed" with finding products that will conflict with my over-processed hair.
    About CGM groups: I am still a part of some only because the albuns can be helpfull when I feel the need to get and try new stuff, but I stopped replying for the most... I mentioned my fav clarifying shampoo that has a super mild sulphate and my comment was removed and I got a ban notification if I did that again. There's absolutly no room for a proper talk and the universe helps if you even try to have a nice conversation/discussion on if the method is still valid today, with all the new science advancement and new ingredients and technologies...
    Being a curly and embracing the twirls of our life shouldn't be stressfull or over complicated. Every ones beautiful head of hair is different, and more than anybody we should really listen to our hair and scalp needs, not following religiously a method that can do more harm than good for you.
    Sending you love.

    Girl this is all spot on, especially the cult mentality! I used to be terrified to post or comment in CGM groups. I decided I was over it, and I’m so glad I did !

    I don’t follow the CG method either. I use some products with silicones and I use Suave’s Clarifying shampoo at least every other wash which removes the silicone buildup. I always condition with a curly hair based conditioner every wash or use a mask conditioner twice a month. Usually when I wash with the clarifying shampoo. You’re right, do what works best for your own hair 👍🏽 P.S. I also subscribe to Manes by Mel and she makes a lot of sense and knows what she’s talking about. She also cracks me up, and her seester is cool too 😉

      Michele Torres thank you so much for sharing! That’s awesome that you found what works for you!❤️ One thing I would recommend is trying to deep condition every week instead of twice a month but again everyone’s hair is different so if deep conditioning twice a month works best then keep on doing you!😘❤️ I also really love Mel!!💕

    I tried the CGM for a couple months and completely clogged the drain in my apartment because of my hair loss... I understand people wanting to limit dying and bleaching their hair but many fail to realize that most people’s hair is extremely resilient and capable of handling a lot. My curl pattern is exactly like yours and I have ultra fine, medium to high density hair. Even though my hair is fine it doesn’t like too much protein. even though my hair is fine it loves deep conditioning regularly. My hair hates leave in conditioner but loves oil. it is what it is! and don’t even get me started on the folks who gate keep people with looser curl textures.

    Interesting video.. I follow CGM and never thought there were too many rules or anything. You don’t have to follow every single thing. For instance, I don’t co-wash. I use BounceCurl products (shampoo, conditioner, leave-in, gel)- they have a clarifying shampoo also. I just make sure to not use products with chemicals and I use light heat when diffusing. I also use a brush after my shower after applying my products. Works for me but you don’t have to follow it religiously. CGM mainly just means don’t use chemicals and heat. The other things are just suggestions. Everyone can be free with how they follow CGM ❤️

    • @DewyBellaCurls
      @DewyBellaCurls  4 роки тому

      Sonya Alsaigh I totally understand, use what works for you. That is the thing though with “chemicals” a lot of these “chemicals“ are deemed as bad and harmful when the reality is there isn’t any science backing those claims up. I plan on making an in-depth video about the fear mongering that goes on in the curly girl method with “chemicals“. All matter is made of chemicals there is no chemical free product. The royal society in the UK actually put out a 1 million GBP reward to anyone that can formulate a product that is chemical free because so far it hasn’t been done yet. At the end of the day do what works best for you tho. I just want to educate more about this topic and really explain some things are more fear mongering then actual fact.💕

    • @sonya4641
      @sonya4641 4 роки тому +1

      YsabellaSkyy I see what you’re saying, but sorry I meant harsh chemicals. I stay away from those and try to use more gentle products. I also use a CBD hairline called Emera that works pretty well. I had really damaged hair before I started my curly journey. My curls ruined from a Brazilian Blowout treatment. I’ve cut off all the damage and been using BounceCurl, it’s really transformed my hair! Have you tried their products before?

    • @DewyBellaCurls
      @DewyBellaCurls  4 роки тому

      I have tried bounce curl and I like their products! I just feel like the definition of “harsh chemicals“ is still blurry so I definitely want to do more research and learn the definition more in depth for myself because there’s just so much missinformation out there!💕

    CGM girls are BULLIES!! If you don't have FUN taking care of your curls then why do it? I basically follow CGM but I do like to brush to distribute the natural oils from my scalp. I *think* all the products I use are CGM approved by I do straighten and hairspray my bangs on occasion. If the CGM ladies only knew!!!

    Can't agree to the no shampoo thing but agree one can shampoo too often. There is a difference. Yes, the CGM groups are a turn off and don't truly let folks honestly ask questions nor do they kindly let people in on the "secrets." One has to sort of "decode" what is going on over time. The RIGHT Denham brush for the RIGHT hair type has been a game changer for my daughter.

    • @DewyBellaCurls
      @DewyBellaCurls  4 роки тому +2

      I definitely agree! U can shampoo too much which is why Co-washes, sulfate free shampoo and a shampoo with sulfates all have a place in a healthy hair routine!!🥰

    I did it for 6 years and it destroyed my hair. My hair just doesn't like oils and butters. I went from shine, thick, moisturized and 3A/B hair to thin, dry and frizzy hair with changed texture ad hair fall. Now I went back to my old routine and hair is recovering. It is just difficult to find products without these compounds.

    I totally agree with you, especially for the shampoo part... There's no way i could go on without it😩 also my hair gets so tangled that only a brush can work that out, though I'm still experimenting because i feel like brushing while wet makes me lose way too much hair. By the way, what brush do you use for detangling, i ordered recently the wet tangle teezer but not sure if it's worth it 😢

      Oxys thank you for watching! I’m so glad you feel the same way! We do lose on average 100 to 150 strands of hair a day so unless you’re losing weight more than you normally would I wouldn’t worry about losing extra hair in the shower. 😊 Currently I’ve been trying out the behairful brush and I really like it so far!❤️

      Yeah, in some of the groups that I was in they also would say DevaCurl wasn’t the cause of a lot of peoples issues.
