Very good! After seeing your clips I now have the strong urge to get my Benz rust free in the next years. I'm excited how your reslult will turn out.

I found I had the same brazing, I think this was factory. I did not pull my cover off. Wire wheeled and brush my rust, ground down with sand paper. Also ground down brazings on top corners, and any sharp ends. My goal is to make a nice smoth transition. Put down thick layers of POR15 and fiberglass, encapsulated both ends. When it started to harden, did final shaping and another layer. Going to let harden a few days and come back to grind down for paint and prep. Other side may get spray treated with rust encapsulator and then a think layer of cavity wax. Why is the rust hapening on these cars? I think the glazing gets old over time (mine had glazing in the corners) and the water has no place to go in the bottom channel. Give it decades, power washing on the seal and dirt/leaves, you have a recipe for disaster where water will eventually seep in. They should have provided some type of drain channel in the design. I am convinced nearly every w126 has this issue.

I just loving these videos! I grew up with these cars and just love their legendary status as simple and robust. So much so I can decide which to buy when I enter the car market in the near future. A 300SD or newer 2009+ W221 S550. I’m definitely leaning towards a w126 as they’re so rare in my part of the neighborhood and the fact I hate planned obsolescence and keep my cars for 10 plus years. Keep up the great work.

Before I go any further I've got to go get some sheet metal.

I had to tear out a lot of rusted out metal on the front cowl drains. Dash out, windshield out. Welded in new metal and drains. You might want to look into Bill Hirsch Miracle paint. I am vert satisfied with this product. 350SD

I caught my rust early, had to dig out a lot of "compost". Glad i did, i found both rubber drain hoses were disconnected and deteriorating.

Hope you remember your work on the old Chevy. Looks to be maybe less work this time. Waiting on next video now.

Use flap disk on a die grinder sand off the rust. Get a cutting wheel and cut n weld in new metal. Drill holes every 2” on that panel and spot weld it back in. Grind the welds flush, sand, prime and paint.

Agree. I'd rather spot weld it into place. That is the proper way.
