    I remember watching that video and reading those comments. Looking at how bad that roof was rotted, you can understand why some people were skeptical. But the proof that you knew exactly what you were doing is seeing how it looks today. You nailed it and it's fixed permanently.
    Happy Birthday.

      I wouldn’t say permanently but, I will accept fixed on a budget. Any moister that gets in there will eventually be an even bigger headache, especially when you don’t neutralize the rust that was already there.

    • @AFO1
      @AFO1 Рік тому +4

      @@dougj.8288 Did you watch the video? He did neutralize the rust. And the closed cell foam he used is water proof. I seriously doubt moisture can/will ever get in there given the way that he packed it in. There may be other problems in other areas of the roof down the road but I think this particular area will be fine. Would a metal repair or a roof replacement have been better? Sure, if you have the dough.

    One problem is that some of us have never tried something, yet we want tell someone else what won't work. We are just repeating what we've heard and seen, but we don't have real world experience. The value of this is in the results and I wish you had even more videos like this proving that there are multiple ways to do things in this car stuff.

I'm not a professional but I've seen a few people use a similar method just without the foam and it worked fine. It looks amazing and well done on that top. I was more worried about the top because you made it look to easy. I really thought there was alot more to it. I don't know your past painting and fab training but I thought you said you basically learned on your own by trial and error. If thats true thats even more incredible.

    Retired bodyman here. I worked mostly in collision repair but my early years was in rust repair. One year I bought a caviler which was solid but it was covered in rust blisters, hundreds of them. I bought it from a farmer. He had a major stone road that he drove everyday. The stones peppered this car with blisters. The front hood and roof covered from cars driving in front of him. The sides covered from stones flying up. I did as you did in removing what I could with grinder and rust wire wheel. Every panel was covered in these quarter sized rust blisters. After cleaning as much as possible. I neutralized by using vinegar also. I then used just fiberglass resin as the barrier and finished with skim coat of bondo to level. That car lasted till finally the motor gave out, but those rust blisters never came back. The outside body was great. To be honest. I was amazed how well the resin locked on and sealed the areas after it was cleaned and neutralized properly. You do great work my friend.

    I disagree with anyone claiming that it is a "...permanent''...', fix - BUT - it is a DAMN GOOD solution and cost effective. Yes - if it was a 'million $ car' - it would not be the proper solution, but for the type//condition//value of the vehicle, I think it is a 'smart solution' and will work well for the life of the vehicle and he did a reasonably good job at the prep work. Great job. Body shops are super expensive and with older cars it definitely pays to do it yourself

    I think the title of this video should be "How to Work One-Handed Like a Boss!" The fiberglass is a great option, but I'd avoid the spray foam. It absorbs and holds moisture. Since you probably still have a lot of rust behind the repair (you can't get to the other side of that metal, after all), it's asking for trouble later on. Still a beautiful job and holding up well.

    You did great job on that car, I watch all your videos because I do like how the cars look after you repair them. The negative comments you did get is from “professionals” afraid of you. Showing them, it can be done with out need of spending thousands of dollars on that kind of repair. 👍

    It’s a beautiful job. I’m about to fiberglass my own car. I do it on boats. Fiberglass and metal bond well with the right epoxy. I figure the truly impressive part is the finishing work. You actually made the car better than the factory did. I couldn’t believe what you had to fix.
